Morning everyone! Hope all well, The Sire is mineeeeee! 😁 £375 Sadly they didn’t have a cable I wanted in stock so not a problem and they offered the most flimsy looking strap so I declined that, I did offer £350 but sadly the lowest they could do was £375 but im happy as other website has it retailed at £459 or more, so can’t knock it really! Il treat myself to a nice strap and order the cable from another website, got the Orange Crush Bass Amp 25w for £148 on PMT, very excited, thank you all for your help i’m honestly so so grateful! Cannot wait to show off some pictures, hopefully be doing an unboxing for youtube too! 😁11 points

Hard to pin it down... but one of the shots from this era Maiden. I had the Live after Death poster on my wall as a kid.10 points

Rest assured I'm fine. I have closed the Rock-wire business and retired however I still have components and can make the occasional cable should any BCer want something. The current problem is that, like many, I am in isolation and therefore cannot, and do not want, to go to the Post Office so despatch would have to wait until the current situation is resolved and Coronavirus is consigned to the history books.6 points

Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. The first time I heard the band, the first time I saw the images, the first time I saw them live, the first time I heard/saw that bass, I had to play bass. I was lucky enough to support British Lion in December, and play through his Iron Maiden cabs (only 1 of the 4 he brought out with him), and I got to chat to him as a “peer”. What a brilliant, engaging and funny guy he is. Mind blown. 16 year old me would never believe it was possible ☺️⭐️5 points

^^^ This, or put 'designacable' into Amazon and you can essentially design your own cables, jack types, colour, length. I swear by them.5 points

Totally original '94 Musicman Stingray complete with illusive "Flea" Bridge and wonderfully figured maple neck. This bass is a stunner and if my other basses had gone this wouldn't be up for sale. It's light for a Stingray @ 9lbs and as I discovered, if you take the knobs off it weighs 8.5lbs! 3 band EQ sounds great. The bass is in good, used condition. It has some paint chips here and there, the back of the neck however is mint and gloriously smooth. I've added a picture of a lovely maple neck (my Windmill) next to the Ray for comparison. It's quite the looker. Collection (at a distance?) from Margate, or I can post (probably best).4 points

This is the third Sterling that I've owned. Several months ago I decided to sell it however once I took it out to check I quickly realised that it had to stay. I've always like the MM tone and the neck is just right for my small hands. It's been very good company this past week.4 points

Bruno TAUZIN is a great French bass teacher, dispensing lessons online or home (not for the moment, of course). He has written loads of methods and has many endorsements. Way far better and focused than some heavy talkers, and more humble too. Yes, he's reading while playing and always plays with this face and head movement... Here is his website : https://bassebruno.com/blog/4 points

OK - you asked for it.... We met Steve and a few others of the Maiden posse when British Lion (the first time they were around - some came from round my way) played at a local pub in Thorpe Le Soken - Steve was managing them, not playing. Ended up having a beer afterwards, my mate Andy and Steve comparing Maiden tats etc. Andy (BT engineer) ended up offering to fit some phone extensions into Steve's new home studio - which he did. They got on well and Andy ended up playing football (don't know why , he's awful) for Maiden XI. We saw British Lion a lot in these pokey pubs and village halls etc and always had a natter with Steve. We got invited to the 'Nodding Donkeys' undercover Maiden gig in Norwich and later asked to go along and do some "Yob vocals" on Fear of the Dark (Chains of Misery and From Here to Eternity) at the aforementioned 'home studio.' Steve gave Andy some bits of memorabilia for a charity auction he was running, remember this is all pre internet, and Andy tried to sell the stuff to a largely uninterested crowd so ended up making a donation and keeping it. Amongst the stuff was a pair of spandex from the World Slavery Tour - which were pretty worn even then. Andy wore them to gig in with our band (not a pretty sight.) They've probably fallen apart by now, but they were cool - had sewn on patches and Egyptian symbols up the side. Good worn patch from p bass action. Nice bloke Steve - happy days 🙂4 points

I would always use an angled jack into the bass, be the socket on the front or side, straight jacks can make a mess of your bass if you forget and put the bass down on to the jack, far less protrusion with the angled jack makes for less damage if you do plonk the bass down on the jack. Most of my decent cables are of this configuration ... ...I also use the silent angled jack because I tend to forget to turn my amp down before I unplug and it saves the inevitable boom!4 points

Finally got around to putting my BBN5 back together last night, the pickguard still needs finishing and fitting properly, headstock decal needs doing, soldering electronics and a general setup and clean, but I think it's looking pretty bloody good! Quite chuffed tbh. 😊4 points

And to the other rear wing. This is the one that has the control chamber and the pickup routs incorporated. Note also the maple veneer acting as the demarcation: This particular piece of Sapele was a little bit cupped and so the clamping was going to be particularly important. I first used a couple of sash clamps to hold the joint with the neck tightly. Clearly, it is important not to crush the 'hoop' left by the removal of the control chamber material and so, here, the sash clamp was fixed from the inside of the chamber to the outside of the other half. So I could get maximum clamping force, I also cut shaped cauls from the offcut to be able to clamp all round the edges and with some hefty ply cauls underneath to protect the yew top: It's going to start looking like a guitar soon4 points

I always fancied a Mayones Cali 4 mini bass. Great build and great looks. And they sound good too. But thought I would make my own five string mini bass with a few differences. The Cali is 17" scale, same as 12 fret onwards on a 34". I am going for an 18.5" scale (equiv to a 37"). Like Mayones, I am using offcuts that are too small to make a full size bass.3 points

....No! Not Those images! Filthy minds the lot of you... I saw this image of Chris Glenn when I were a wee lad and thought...”That’s cool, I’m gonna be a bass player” Foot on the monitor, glaring at the crowd. Also fell in love with 51 P/Tele bass shape at the same time. Any pictures/album sleeves that got your “Bass” attention? Sorry if this has been done before.3 points

Hello, my name is Tom and I am bassplayer form Czech republic. I am not a pro, I work as an architect and as a father of two kids. I´ve been playing for 25 years in various bands. Nowadays I play mostly at home just to study music and understand it better. My main goal now is to become good sightreader spending my time mostly with "Simandl Double Bass Method" and "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown" books. I play mostly more than 30 years old P bass of unknown origin looking really ugly but sounding very sweet. She has two vintage Jazzbass pickups installed on a heavy sapele body, some vintage Japanese neck and Schaller hardware. You see, it is little bit like a Frankenstein monster... I have more axes of various nice brands (I can tell you about later), but this one is just something like Billy Sheehans "Wife".3 points

Here's a bit of Trace memorabilia for you peeps who are interested in such things. I recently managed to pickup an original MkIV Trace catalogue. Along with it came this price list from Feb 1985 which also lists Status basses.3 points

Slight cable snob I am afraid - no point in maxing whatever you’re budget is on a bass and skimping on a cheap cable, it would be like putting push bike tyres on car. Lava, PJB, Canare are what I use - shop around on GAK, guitarguitar, Richtone etc. There are often deals to be had3 points

Once again I am super grateful for the knowledge imparted here. As a result of people's input on this I am feeling pretty hopeful about the DiMarzio PJs going into the bass without any problems. I haven't yet received the bass in question, it's still slowly making its way to me. At the moment I have absolutely no idea when I'll be able to get the pickups fitted to this Ibanez TR200, as there are no guitar shops open to do the work. I'll send an update with photos to let you know the outcome of this...eventually 😁2 points

Neck shaping is now mostly done. I'll make a few measurements to ensure the thickness is correct down the entire length of the neck and make sure it feels right. I'm leaning towards rounding the fretboard on this neck and trying a flat board on the other neck. I also need to sort a logo out for this headstock - I'm thinking the using one is too large for this so I'll look at options for making it smaller. I'm tempted to use mother of pearl of similar by way of a change!2 points

Lem was my most important early influence but I can’t remember a specific image that drew me in, off the top of my head. Maybe the pic on the inside of Space Ritual....2 points

The best percussion performance of the modern age, Bunny Wailer, there, understated I think you might say, fabulous. I find it very difficult to watch this without selling everything to buy a Jazz like the Family Man's.2 points

And now it does look more like a guitar I'm pleased with the joins - certainly, with many hints and tips from the good and knowledgeable folks here over the years, I'm getting a bit better at it! It's like this pretty much all the way round. And see what I mean about 0.6mm of maple still being fully visible. So now it looks more like a guitar. The next step is to make it look more like an SG. The chamfer carves start tomorrow...2 points

I really like the Dingwall medium scale. 32-35” is incredibly comfortable to my hands, and has more of a Fenderlike sound while having a tighter B and a freer singing G.2 points

Try pushing the treble control on the Mojo Mojo up to 3 o'clock, it's still not bright by any measure, but it does add some missing clarity back! Re the Tech21 pedals Al, DP3X still sounds king when played in a mix with my band's old albums. Played solo though I do enjoy the VTDI more. The Leeds is very similar but less farty and more throaty when pushing the gain! I'd need to play them against each other at high volume in a band setting to see how they fare in real life, but I can't see that happening for the foreseeable!2 points

I think the way Mr Hook looked on stage was more appealing to me than his musical style, good and all though it was. Luckily I was jamming in a band with two basses and the other one took the high road like Hooky, so to speak, leaving me the meatier bottom end stuff. (Cheers Brian)2 points

what he says. Many good options out there, at similar or better prices than what you can get in a store 'branded'. Better quality too, which is why I get them. Places I've got great cables from: 1) our own basschat resident @obbm, of course. 2) designacable - search for it on eBay or amazon 3) cleartone - they have their own website All those use good quality components and they build cables that last a long long long time. I would try OBMM first.2 points

I have also played this bass many many times, I really wanted to buy this from Jamie but I live in the states and have Basses I still need to ship here. I always loved it ever since I first played it, it’s a very well played bass and Jamie is one hell of a player too!2 points
