Bought through this very forum. Getting it here from Poland took its sweet time with Covid delays but here it is! My guitarist has already labeled it "Big Red". I threw a new pack of DR Low-Riders on and yet have to take it for a good testrun. Hooked it up to my Elf briefly this afternoon to see if it works, but alas had to work all day. Yay! You might notice I have a weak spot for anything Jazz Bass model. The red will fit in fine!3 points

SOLD.....Virtually unmarked condition..serial number D 037 540 97- Not sure if that means it's 1997.. All works as it should; only minor gripe is that the treble control knob has a habit of working loose- I replaced it with a non-original one but will provide the original as seen in pics.. Not sure if i've priced it in the right ball-park so feel free to enlighten me..3 points

I spoke with one dealer who said they value instruments based on their intrinsic value (not necessarily who has played it). Taking that into account, EB-Os like this are around £5,000 in the States and very rare. Add the original case and you’re looking at more than the asking price here. Exceptionally rare bass, faultless provenance and I want it.3 points

For me - Nathan East. I first saw this when it originally aired in 1990 when I was 14 years old. Seeing someone playing a bass the size of an ironing board, dancing around and smiling the whole time was the epitome of cool to me. To some it may be the snarling, low slung bass or the standing in one position that makes your favourite cool bass player cool but to me, this is what cool is all about. That someone could do that and clearly be enjoying himself had such a profound effect on me that I always try to have as much fun at a gig as I possibly can, regardless of how good, bad or indifferent the gig actually is.3 points

I actually love both of these versions, but Hanoi Rocks edge it for me:3 points

It’s a more or less carbon copy of the RS guitarworks contour 54 which has been knocking about for at least 10 years. Ive always fancied one but they’re about £3000 - meant to be lovely though.3 points

Wow, fair play to you. Thought that would have been on most people's (including mine) worst ever lists.3 points

Great band. What a rhythm section! Lots of happy memories listening to Sweet - loved the idea of 'the heavy side'. Great 'heavy rock' performance here, live in '743 points

Excuse the self indulgence, and yes it is more on the Ska side of things, but this is the latest release by my nephew's band, and I think it is the best thing they have done so far - a session for Rodigan on BBC1 Xtra recorded at Maida Vale.3 points

Excellent thread! I love reggae / ska / roots / rocksteady / dub / sound system culture and two of my all time favourite bass players are Family Man and Robbie Shakespeare. Some fantastic tunes in this thread! Here's something that came out a couple of months ago from an album of old school reggae stars covering modern day soul tunes. Projects like this can be a bit hit and miss but this one is ace. I'd recommend the whole album but reggae is catnip to me. Tabby Shaw from The Mighty Diamonds doing "This World (Is Going Up In Flames)" by the late Charles Bradley. Can't doubt his sincerity or his delivery on this and the groove is wicked. And because it's Friday and the sun is trying to break through, have a one hour mix of feelgood ska, reggae, roots and dub I put together a while back. If folks like King Stitt, Jackie Mittoo, The Silvertones, Max Romeo, Lloyd Charmers, Gregory Isaacs, Sly Dunbar, Peter Tosh, Joe Gibbs etc, float your boat then hit the play button 👍 Cheers - Lee3 points

SOLD Up for sale this beautiful early ACG. Please ask any questions, socially distanced pick up or happy to meet/drive to drop off. Pictures, comments and some history here ... ...It has just had (early March 2020) a full set up, some neck and fingerboard work, a restring and fret dressing by the best set up chap in the country (all details available) and is now in good as new condition. I can’t find a mark on it. Recently restrung with Newtone strings. The bass has Schaller strap pins and I will include a set Schaller S-Locks with the trade/sale. No trades thanks.2 points

For sale or Trade. Ibanez SR500. Owned from new. Had it about 3 years. Bought this Super lightweight guitar, when i seemed to constantly have a bad back and my Yamha BB herd all felt too heavy for me. Thankfully the back seems to have settled down for now. The 3 band active electronics give you a huge range of tonal options. The neck is very slim and fast. The build quality of these is first right and least equal too the Yamha brand. I only used this on 3 gigs and had it tuned down a full tone. It seemed to handle this a lot better than my Yamahas. Always got compliments on tone from other bass players when i used it. Selling because i need to make some space for P Bass. Bass is in good condition except there are a few small finger nail marks between the 2 pickups which is normal for these as they do mark easily. There is also a small dint in the side of the body. Non of these effect the playability of the guitar in any way Would be willing to trade for Precision bass or possibly a Jazz. Happy to add some cash too. Collection is preferred but willing to post at buyers expense. Still have the original box. Also happy to meet up in the North West. Whilst maintaing social distancing.2 points

After many questions and asking a couple fellow members for recordings/sound samples of the bass head I was after.(Thanks @Merton @stewblack) I’ve finally made a purchase, extra thanks to @Merton for selling me his head and putting up with one of my senior idiotic moments!! This place is such a wealth of help and it reinstates my faith that decent people still exist on this planet! Here is my new setup, I am beyond chuffed with it!! Enough of the talking, here’s a photo and a brief iPhone tone test.....enjoy!! (Excuse the sloppy playing, it’s been a long day) IMG_0016.mov2 points

just asking. For the last four years on here there have been loads of items way up North that I would have liked. I seem to recall a nice pair of orange cabs( Black ones? and a nice natural P Bass. On the 18th of june I have essential work to do in Scotland, first time I have ever been. So just thought I would see if anyone has some tat for me! I bet there isnt a thing, but on the 19th when I am on my way back a 1965 p bass will come up for sale for £3.00. 😆😅2 points

My B1 arrived yesterday and had the chance to try it out today for a quick run through. This thing is immense for 60 quid, I can see it being such a useful practice tool. Some of the patches are a bit gimmicky but also fun, but I was really impressed with the standard sounds, the SVT stack sounds brilliant, and the motown patch really nails that 60's soul sound I love with my P Bass. I might have a look at installing the software to edit the patches and have a bit of a cleanse of the patches, but for £60 this is an absolute steal.2 points

Agree 🥰 Got mine a few weeks ago, I am like a kid (ok technically, my 4th... made the mistake of selling the first 2, but definitely keeping mine now). I am a hardcore fan2 points

I like P90's, distinctive sound, sit well between HBs and SCs. Had them on 2 Gibson solids, a cheap Jazz box and (currently) on a thin-bodied semi. Can deliver a wide range of tones depending on how controls set, amp, etc. Good for most stuff short of surf or metal. Another popular option is to drop a P90 into the neck position and keep the bridge HB. The P90 is a very simple, very basic pick-up and it seems to me that as a result there's generally less voodoo bollocks and 'vintage tone' cork-sniffing than you get with classic HBs. To which end I'd pause before pulling the trigger on a set of genuine Gibbos (£88 each? Surely not). The P90's on my Sorrento are Warmans, fitted by the previous owner. They do the job fine and there's a pair of HB sized P90's left on Warmans web site for about £30. Other makes are available - e.g. Catswhisker do a handwound HB sized P90 for £64 each. The world's yer oyster, basically2 points

I once backed out of an audition because of that song! 🤣 I'd asked the guy for some tunes to get down in advance and he sent me that version... It had passed me by until then, surprisingly. "It's much better than the original" he said. I laughed my 'arris off at first listen. Damn, if only they'd realised that what that song needed was some generic nu-metal guitar tones and some autotuned vocals, Fleetwood Mac could have been as famous as... Er... Who was it again? I was on the phone making my excuses within minutes.2 points

Again, another great example - I completely disagree with your comment on Dylan. Great how subjective this all is!2 points

Any cover of any Bob Dylan song.... Except for that one where that woman with the Eyepatch changed the words and melody to Knocking on Heaven's Door... That was stinky poo.2 points

I don't think Lee's video does justice to the sound of this record. Listen to the original recording. Lee gets a fantastic bass sound on this song and a perfect, economical and melodic bass line.2 points

Sold my 2002 Music Man Stingray 5 to Flavius. Always a pleasure to deal with and such a nice person. I was even paid with real money ( 😉 ) and can now buy some other basses. Heil to Lemmy. Cheers Flavius.2 points

I'll reiterate my comments on Facebook for here as well I own an ABM EVO from 1999 which I adore, but the EVO IV is something else. More voltage to the valve means more valve dirt, extra frequencies on the preamp means more control, and the power section upgrade is something to behold. Great amp.2 points

I sooooooooo badly wanted to be Sav with that white pointy Hamer (Scarab bass??) back in the 80's, the hair, the (usually) ripped jeans, white trainers. 😉😆😆2 points

Sweet was a big part of my musical journey. One of the very first bands i was into in early 70's. I loved that whole Glam Rock thing hence the reason i'm now in my dream band (70's Glam Rock covers.) He could play some really great bass lines altho most of the Sweet songs are pretty straight forward but that's what made hit songs back then. It wasn't all about technical ability. He was an absolute showman and the comedian in the band. Our drummer lived near Steve when he was a kid. They always referred to Steve as the guy that plays in a band. As they got older Steve became famous and he even got a lift home from pub in his Rolls Royce one day. He has loads of great stories about Sweet in those early years. Steve never seemed to change. He always came across as a really nice guy. He played at Brian's daughters wedding when Brian wasn't doing too well.2 points

Nicky Wire in the early Manics days was a very cool figure. When I first saw them, him and Richey Edwards were definitely the cool pair in the band. Such a stylish mess of animal prints, spandex, make up and nicotine, oozing confidence, arrogance and attitude.2 points

From image alone I`m sure Sid Vicious had an impact on many of us, he sure did on me. In the video for Pretty Vacant I though he looked great. He probably inspired many to pick up the bass, without ever really getting to grips with it himself. Also Duff McKagan of Guns N Roses always had that cool aura about him, as did Sami Yaffa of Hanoi Rocks.2 points

Hi folks, great modding examples! My HB one seems to be a "bit" different... more "heavy relic style". The original bass was sunburst and brand new... Here some features: All hardware aged Neck 39mmm at nut ( I made it more slim) & waxed Bone nut Headstock with personal logo Body through bridge + additional screws for better body/bridge connection. Brass saddles with larger diameter Additional neck plate (6 screw connection) Additional shaping MM- Pickup + mm-style preamp passive & active mode for both pickups Tele-style Control platewith Sandberg knobs (slightly smaller than usual JB-Knobs) Have fun complaining my "art-work" 😂2 points

I know the term underrated is thrown about and clichéd but it really does apply to Alex massively. Great Stingray and Precison tones, inventive, melodic basslines. He's a really nice bloke in real life and cool as f*** to boot!2 points
