  1. Moollon P classic in Root Beer Sparkle. P classic with J neck, gorgeous player! I love the colour, although I haven't yet compared it with actual root beer as the Co-op only had Dr Pepper: Really pleased with it, very high quality craftsmanship throughout. Looking forward to stringing it with incoming La Bellas as I'm on a lockdown Jamerson journey! Will record some tones when I get the chance.

  2. Over the last few weeks I've picked up a cheapie (Harley Benton) and a gorgeous P workhorse (Fender Japan 70's Classic P) .....and finally got back a bass I should never have sold (Pedulla Buzz Deluxe fretless). I've already upgraded the bridge & put blocks on the Harley Benton fretboard...and will be adding EMG Gzr pickup soon. The Fender already has upgraded wiring and the Pedulla is just lush.... so much 'mwaaaaah'!

  6. Lodestone P Artist bass up for grabs. This bass was the premium model in the Lodestone range. I've heard various reports of these retailing between £1400 and £2k new! It's a very well put together bass with a gorgeous poplar burl top and deep trans black gloss finish. The neck is somewhere between a P and J in width and has a great feeling Musicman-esque olied finish. It features the Status designed (I think) swept back headstock which is smaller in the flesh than I thought it would be. I've attached a photo next to my Jag for comparison. It's equipped with a punchy sounding EMG pickup, a high mass bridge and lightweight Gotoh tuners. It weighs 3.9kg/8.6lb and is well balanced on the strap. It doesn't have a case but I can package well if postage is required.

  8. Reduced to £600 My modular Orange revolution continues, hence, the Berg has to go to fund this. No trades, please. I can’t ship, due to size/weight/worry/lack of box, but will meet halfway within reason, or further for a fuel contribution. It’s in VGC bar a tiny dink on the rear RHS as per the photo, works perfectly, and sounds terrific. I’ve cribbed the tech spec from @Dood’s ad - hope that’s okay, sir, and here it is: From one of the finest bass cabinet designers of the 21st Century comes a new range of lightweight cabinets using cutting edge Neodymium speaker technology coupled with advanced lightweight cabinet design. Using only the highest grade lightweight void free Baltic birch and precision built custom drivers, this new range of cabinets from Bergantino Audio are already another hugely popular addition from this established company. The Bergantino Audio Systems ‘Carbon Neo’ CN series of lightweight speaker cabinets nod their head to the traditional HD series but have a different function. These are the lightest speaker cabinets that we make. The precision tuned cabinet architecture and the enclosures are built with the finest lightweight Italian poplar plywood (with Baltic birch baffle boards) selected to our specifications. This lightweight cabinet material (along with the lightweight magnet material) helps reduce the overall cabinet weight. The lightweight carbon covering is used for cabinet cover material and is also lighter than the traditional tolex covering found on most speaker cabinets. A rigid black grille is added to protect the drivers from damage. The internal components used are extremely high quality and they are of Bergantino design. No ‘off-the-shelf’ parts are used. Woofers with Neodymium magnet material are used for the low frequency section of the CN series cabinets. The Neodymium drivers have a punchier low-end and a very sweet midrange that is placed a little more forward in the sound field when compared to the HD series. Fretless and upright players will often prefer the CN cabinets because of how the midrange ‘speaks’ with their instruments. The CN series cabinets have a high intelligibility tweeter mated to the woofers through a custom designed phase-coherent crossover with a tweeter control. Because of the increased cost of the Neodymium magnet material, imported wood for the cabinetry and the unique covering material, the CN series speakers cost more than the HD series, but may just be the right match for your playing style and weight needs. Model CN212 specifications: •2 x 12" Custom Neodymium drivers with 7 oz magnets •high intelligibility 1" tweeter •custom phase - coherent crossover with tweeter level control •Precision tuned 100% Baltic Birch cabinet •power handling - 700 watts rms frequency response: tbc •sensitivity: tbc db @ 1 Watt/1 meter •2 x 1/4" and 2 x neutrik connectors •impedance: 4 ohms •dimensions: 31"H x 18-1/2"W x 15"D •79cm x 46cm x 38cm •weight: 46lbs/20 Kgs

  9. Great demo. I think the rosewood fingerboards have a tiny bit more beef in the tone(which suits the P pickup). He's totally right about the sustain. Amazing! Just got the riff on this other demo under my fingers. It's literally too hard for me to play on a slower neck!!!!!

  17. When I think about "the basses that matter" - Macca's Hofner, Jamerson's Precision, Squire's Rickenbacker, etc. - I would feel genuinely and utterly embarrassed to find that I owned any of them. Put in dreadfully predictable terms, I am not worthy. It's one thing for a top-notch world-famous bassist to end up owning a famous bass from the past, quite another for a mediocre semi-pro Weekend Warrior like me to have one. I'm much happier NOT owning a famous bass, with or without provenance. Additionally, you also need to factor in whether or not you actually like the music that the famous bass was used on. We're talking about Nick Beggs' old Wal here, so let me just point out that one of the main reasons I stopped listening to new music in the 80s was Godawful bands like Kajagoogoo ...

  18. This is a bittersweet sale, but the band I use it with have always intended to have a double bass, with me on rhythm guitar, and that is finally happening. So up for sale is my Epiphone Masterbilt DeLuxe Century archtop acoustic bass. I bought this new in 2018 and have gigged it regularly since. Although well gigged, it has been babied so is in great condition, with only a couple of small marks on the body. Fitted with Labella 760N Black Nylon strings, which I think are an improvement on the stock D'addario tapewounds. The original piezo pickups on these are ok, but I wanted something better, so I had some dialog with Aaron at Kent Armstrong pickups about other options that would work for me. He wound me a custom floating pickup which transformed the live sound, giving a lovely warm, full tone. This has been wired directly to the output jack, with the piezo disconnected. The bass now has a beautiful double bass type sound which worked brilliantly for the old time stuff I played. Also sounds great unplugged, and is louder with roundwounds, but I prefer the tone of the nylon strings. The bass has the matching Epiphone hard case. I will include some Bobs Fits F hole blockers made specially for the bass. I got these in case I had any issues with feedback on bigger stages, but I’ve never had to use them. The original tuner buttons have been replaced with Schallers. £675 ono. Collection from Beccles, Suffolk. Or I could potentially meet somewhere for fuel costs. I think I have a box so shipping is also a possibility. Cheers.

  19. So my son Harvey came up to me last week and said: “Dad, I’d like to play bass just like you”. At almost 8 clearly he can’t use my basses, but then I remembered I still have a 30” Hofner neck in storage, and almost all the wood and hardware required. Tuners are the only thing I would need. Thanks to @Shaggy I now also have these sorted, so once I have finished the fretless I will be doing a shortscale for Harvey. It must be red, but for the rest I can do what I please the Guv’ tells me. Okay son! If it turns out he isn’t picking up the instrument, then I have a travel bass I’ll remodel the headstock and stick on some bookmatched facings, do a body in ash, and for the rest I am thinking single pickup in a P-ish location. Watch this space.

  20. Last to go (for now) is this Satin Surf Green Jazz in immaculate condition. Fitted with Fender Vintage 74 spec pickups and a KickAss bridge it sounds & plays as it should and that's very well there's some grunt in the pups. Fender gig bag, certificate and all allen keys at hand. The Spector bug has hit so thats the only reason it's up for grabs...UK only please...Will post at cost or organise your own courier the bass will be well wrapped, bagged & boxed. I do have some feedback not a lot but all good...cheers for having a nose::: WITHDRAWING this Jazz, athritis says so 🙄

  21. Hello dear bass community, on my first attempt to create some youtube content with halfway valuable information, I created this topic. I had my early 80's StingRay customized with a passive bypass switch back in the 90s and never regretted it. What are your thoughts?

  23. I acquired this rather lovely P recently in a (part)trade. Whilst I am amazed at how well this Mexican Fender holds up against my MIA I think it makes sense to pass this one on. Candy Apple Red with a Maple neck, whats not to like? Am using the pics from the original owner, it is still in the exact condition although I have fitted a black pickguard I had lying around to it a la a Nate Mendell P. Will ship with both pickguards. Price includes shipping with neck detached tracked/insured. More pics on request. Tape wrap flats fitted. Will happily trade against a semi-hollow, electric acoustic or such.

  24. Well I enjoyed that. It was quite revealing in my mind. I normally use 1 or 2 x SC with a Mesa Subway D800 or Fender Rumble HD800 a rig that I'm really comfortable with. I use a One 10 at home and I have been considering moving to Two10 in place of the SCs but having heard that comparison I think I'll stick with the SCs. The BB2 was the most musical and articulate and to me stood out with its delivery. BUT I don't need all that top end range nuance . The Two10 was exactly what I desire but I can achieve the same olde school dynamic with the EQ on my amps thro the SCs so for me the SCs have sufficient range so provide enough flexibility. BTW my 2 x Basschat v2 Beyma SM 12s match the Two10s any day. I would love to hear the New Basschat v3 FRFR Faital loaded cab compared to the BB2. Maybe possible at the South West Bass bash?

  27. Not much progress since the last post. Took off the sled and checked the slab for flatness. Pretty good. I will sand to final thickness. I spent this afternoon anxiously measuring and re-measuring to align the neck, so I could locate and draw out the neck pocket. I was set to rout it (before cutting out the body outline) when I realised my trimmer bit had the bearing at the bottom, not the top. Gah! I’m going back online to buy a top bearing bit, which will take a while to arrive.

  29. @TrevorG go for it! I’m sure you will do it having been there before. I was a paid amateur drummer of a good standard or so I was told. Unfortunately I suffer from bad RSI in my right elbow and lower arm which has curtailed my drumming. So bass it is for me going forward. Glad you like your Ultra Bass. I have played lots of boutique jazz basses, some owned by mates and some in shops and frankly my bass widdles on the lot of them. I don’t know what Fender have done with this model but they’ve done something pretty magical in my opinion. Yes they’re expensive, but they’re not relative to boutique jazz basses some of which won’t play or sound as good as the Ultras.

  30. @la bam may have solved your problem in the bass centre thread. They have models with a blue jazz body and a maple neck with blocks. A quick switcharoo could get your dream bass! http://www.basscentre.com/bass-collection-jive-bass.html

  33. Thanks again for the tip @Matt P, I have just replaced the overdrive tube with the preamp tube and it now works perfectly fine ! The covers simply needed a small push down and rotation indeed I have swapped the preamp tube with a new old stock RCA grey plate 12AX7, and the sound is much clearer when the gain is pushed up, you have to push it really high to get a little overdrive. Some would say it is more hifi. @Salt on your Bass?, everything is sorted now and I'm happy with the amp ! I did not have the time to test the former overdrive channel tube, I might do some day.

  34. Yes a higher clank total than usual - seems in higher mid territory, just wonder if it’s due to the recording gear as the drums also didn’t seem to have much low end either.

  39. I was a pro and, despite a rather demanding day job, I intend to be again. Same here with the past collection of great marques. I actually bought the PJ as a practice bass so I didn't have to drag my Spector up and down to work. Never thought I'd see the day when I'd consider selling the Spector but I just don't play it anymore. The Ultra is that good!

  40. I had a beautiful, all original (photo shows an East EQ, but I put the originl back in soon after) 1970 fretless Precision for a while. Why on earth I sold it I'll never know I liked it so much I had Sandberg make me a fretted "hardcore aged" VT5 to go with it. Sold that too....

  42. To me, insurance is a form of betting. It's laying odds on the transaction going badly, at whatever to one. Sometimes the bet pays off, sometimes the bet is welshed. For my part, I never take out insurance, and have not lost out as a consequence. I'd say that, in general, if the item is of such high value, it's worth a personal delivery. Just my tuppence-worth.

  43. This bass is currently in stock. I ordered one last week and it arrived here this week. I'm seriously impressed with this instrument for its price (~£177). The only tweak I've made is to switch the way too floppy .084 low E for a .100 actual bass string I had in my parts box. I've not had to adjust anything other than intonating it- The truss rod, string height and nut are all just fine out of the box! EDIT: I have had to file the nut slots a little
