So that shuker I bought recently isn't right for me, the neck and the string spacing is too big for my hands, and the number of strings is just confusing to me, but one thing I realised is how the quality of the build was. So with quite a bit of talking to Jon, selling my stick and a few other things, and a longing that has been with me since the LBGS in 17, I present something that pretty well everyone who went to the LBGS in 2017 will probably remember. Shuker Uberhorn, 33" neck, 17mm spacing, delano pickups and john east pre. Weighs about nothing!8 points

Up for sale is a G&L SB1 from the late 80s and its original hard case. If I sound a bit vague on the date it's because it seems quite hard to date these precisely. The serial number is B017393. The G&L registery dates a similar number to 1984, but Gareth (the BassChatter I bought this from) says late 80s and he clearly knows his stuff. I bought the bass earlier this year and I do love it, but my modest talent and budget don't support a multiple bass habit so I'd like to sell and replace it with a US jazz with a rosewood neck (if you fancy a trade please let me know). I simply feel more at home with a jazz neck and a jazz sound. When I bought the bass I gave it to a local tech here in Somerset for a full set up. He polished the frets etc and fitted it with Dunlop flats which it's still wearing. I paid £975 for it which, on reflection, might have been a bit punchy, but I'd fallen in love with it so what's a man to do? You'll see from the pictures that it isn't in showroom condition as you might expect in a bass this age. It's got some good honest mojo from years of playing. There's a patch of buckle rash on the back, some dings on the edges of the body etc, but nothing that interferes with the gorgeous sound of the thing. The tech who set it up marvelled at how straight the neck was and it's the first instrument I've owned that made me understand what the term 'buttery' might mean. Something about it just feels right the moment you fret it. The electronics are simple - it has some rather cool radio knobs - but the sound (to my ears) is magnificent. The case looks like it has been through a few airports backwards - plenty of war wounds on the exterior, but the plush interior is in good condition. It's done its job in other words. It's probably a superficial thing, but I also loved this bass because it doesn't have the rather weird (IMO) jagged headstock of the modern G&Ls. I guess that's down to individual taste, but it felt important to me. Anyway, someone will either be on the look out for one of these or they won't, so I'll leave it in the lap of the BassChat gods and if it doesn't sell or trade I'll go right back to loving her. Bass is in Babcary, Somerset and inspection is welcome of course. As it's in its flight case I'm happy to courier at buyer's risk (or we insure). Thanks for taking a look. Been asked about weight. I only have access to bathroom scales, but using the Me plus bass minus Me approach it seems to weigh about 4kg. That's an approximate of course. It's certainly lighter than my BB1100s, but then most things are.6 points

'It's a long way to Tipperary'. I resent the assumption that I'm not in Limerick, Shannon, Mitchelstown or Bruff. A more factual approach would have been 'It may or may not be a long way to Tipperary, depending on your current location'. Maybe a little less catchy though?5 points

I don't understand the negativity. They're both better bass players than I am. Then again, Kim Jong himself is probably a better bass player than me. 😂5 points

I’m not entirely sure we should be criticising anyone else’s response to this crisis, or indeed laughing at what passes for entertainment in North Korea. Have you actually seen the sh*t on TV here? I wonder what the North Koreans would think of Naked Attraction? (A show once seen and never forgotten).5 points

I've not had too much time spare this week to get on with this but I managed to get a couple of little tasks ticked off today. First up was making the control cavity cover using one of the offcuts I saved earlier. I kept a few pieces for this as in case something went wrong but I didn't need them as the first one worked out fine. I need to get the magnets fitted to this and the cavity but I'll do that a bit later. After this I used a rasp to shape the body for forearm and tummy. That's all the bulk shaping on the body - now just the sanding...4 points

I took this one when I finished the cab, but I had posted threads in the Build Diaries for the cab and the bass build. Got a lot of great advice and help on here from people lucky enough to have a real fliptop or 64 p bass. This set up is close enough for me and my needs.4 points

I installed these little 5mm thick plates for the bottom of the scissor mechanism to run on, it pushes it out far enough for the chop to be parallel. And now with the fore edge repair planed to fit. The chop is a smidgen short, so the new face is a little proud. Anyone would think it was deliberate. Varnish and final fit to come. I had hoped to be done today, but waiting for extra glue to dry put paid to that.4 points

Well, still drumming my fingers waiting for a nice big parcel of wood to arrive. So the only thing I've been able to do in the past couple of days is plane the back down to finished thickness (around 2mm) and cut out the oversize shape. So a subtle change from the previous photo but, heck, progress is progress! Workshop's a bit tidier too4 points

Wow thank you ALL for the great feedback!! I've been a guitar player for a long time and switched to Bass last week at the request of a group who saw me play. In all the years of being in Guitar forum groups never have I received so much help and encouragement. Thank you! Phil4 points

I've had 5 Sandbergs over the years. The first was a Cali I VS4. I then moved to a black Cali II TT4 passive. This gave way to a VM4 (with the P pickup the right way around) but I didn't really get on with this configuration. I then ended up with what I had hoped would be two keepers a custom red VS4 and a TT4. Sadly I had to sell these along with a few other basses to raise some cash quickly for what I will describe as a 'family situation'. Thankfully all behind us now and about to re-enter the fray with a custom TT4 passive that I'm spec'ing up. Here are a few pics for y'all:4 points

With a tinge of sadness my dream all valve beast is up for sale. It's never been giggled or driven hard (or even half hard) at all. Bought from PMT earlier this year, to satisfy my 70s rock itch in a low key band. However, a change of direction now means I simply wont need it. It's too nice to be sat here, so I want someone to enjoy it. Its 300w of beastlyness! Beautiful, unmistakable valve sound that you cant replicate (weve all tried). It has everything you need input and output wise and a pre and post high quality DI. It has a user bias control which is very easy to do. You dont need to take to a tech. Active and Passive inputs. Mute button. Gain, Master, Bass, Mid, Treble dials and Mellow, Bass, Mid, Treble buttons to punch in easily. 2ohm, 4ohm and 8ohm separate speakon connectors, so you can run with any cab or combination of cabs - unlike the old valve heads. FX send and returns. Built so well and solidly. Built to last. Ashdown will service and repair these anytime - so customer service is always available. They're always at the end of the phone, and brilliant to deal with. 32kg but easy to move due to the top handles. The weight is evenly distributed, it's not like those dead weights of metal power amps you get. This is nice and balanced and doesnt feel that heavy. The custom made faux leather and padded cover also has an under strap to stop the cover coming away. However due to the design you can put your amp on the cab with the cover on, un velcro the cover and take it off without moving the amp. And vice versa when putting back on. Notes: There are a few minor scratches. You dont see them from a couple of feet away, but I'll photo them so you can see. VU meter. The VU meter lights up red for biasing and works, but doesnt light yellow when 'on'. In honesty it doesnt seem to move for input like the abms etc, but has no impact on the actual input. I've spoken to ashdown who think it's just the bulb maybe loose. It doesnt effect operation in any way so I've never bothered taking it to be fixed. I've had a few phone calls with Dave Green at Ashdown - the maestro who designed this amp - about biasing etc and he has said that it doesnt really matter on this amp. You can balance the valves if you like, but as long as they're not in the red they are running perfect. He said until the valves have done at least 100 hours they are not even run in. This has done nowhere near that yet. These are around £2000 new and £100 a cover. Save a fortune. Photos to follow. Official spec here: https://ashdownmusic.com/products/ctm-300-head3 points

[NOW SOLD, MUCH THANKS] http://www.acguitars.co.uk/project/0172-finn-r-type-fretless-5/ I put the link above to let the pictures do the talking...plus specs. As I’m going in a different direction, I’ve decided to let this one go. In mint condition! Plays like a dream! I spoke to Alan Cringean himself (luthier) and even he says he went in deep with this one and some lucky owner would enjoy immensely. The electronics is the East-UK, Uni-pre as I’m more familiar with this setup and so has a vast variety of tones in the engine! Partial lines and luminay dots on lines on the side. I’ll put a fresh set of strings on and a new 9v battery before collection or shipping (probably Newtones). I’ll add some home pics but the original pics are more professional so have a look at both. Aylesbury collection possible but UK shipping and Hiscox hard case included in the price. Note: this spec would cost approx £3000 (and you would have to wait!) Now....who’s feeling lucky?3 points

Sorry to hear that Pete. It's certainly started to have an affect on my mental health, not just the furlough periods but just not seeing mates. Haven't seen my band mates since our last gig at the beginning of March which feels weird as we normally played pretty much every week. You stay strong mate.3 points

A handy addition to the workbench is a bench stop , I use mine all the time especially if it’s to plane something that’s awkward to clamp, it adjusts up and is flat when not in use, could be another project si 😁3 points

The BC Swear Aunty won't let me post what I actually said. Nearly there. So I'm happily planing the top of the chop level and chamfering the back edge to make it look nice and less chunky. You all know what's coming next. Yup, I started on the wrong side and took the corner off the fore edge. Pretty much did the only thing possible in the circumstances. This is what I wanted to do.3 points

I'd be happy using Troy's cover (video above) as an accurate rendition of the song. It seems a relatively simply bassline compared to some of the stuff he posts which is bang on. I don't mean easy though, it's a surprisingly busy line for quite a slow, laid back song, but it is repetitive which helps. I had to learn The Who's 'The Real Me' and his version was spot on and helped a great deal. Good luck with learning it and as others have said, don't worry too much about getting it absolutely perfect. It's better to not play it exactly the same but play it well, than get it note perfect but with no feeling. And the most important bit? Enjoy yourself. 👍3 points

I use audacity to raise the pitch by an octave and slow it down, really makes the bass stand out, agree with @SpondonBassed about what seems right today won't seem right tomorrow, as long as it sounds right nobody will know anyway3 points

Finally some updates. I decided to put this on the scale and landed on a whopping 3,5kg. Yikes. I then decided to put this on a diet. I also noticed that thikness was also a bit too much, about 42mm. So with that I mind, I made this kind of a routing jig / contraption for shaving off layers from top and bottom (well, front and back actually...). I know that Stingrays are officially about 40mm thick, but for the sake of weight control and also curiosity, I went down to 39mm. I like routing, it's meditative like painting. Preparations just take 80% of the time Of course after this I also had to make that electronics cover thinner but good thing it was thick to begin with. Also, edges had to be re-done, no biggie. I'm hoping that the neck route will get rid of some extra weight and I also have a special feature in mind, more about that later3 points

Just found some TE Knobs in a friend's spares collection, but only white ones. Also had a play with my expanding collection of Cabs. AH500x power stage split both full range into 1) Laney N410 + N115 2) Epifani UL212 (4 ohm cab). A recent purchase from @Berserker. Hee hee hee. My meglomaniacal plans for world domination are complete 😀🤣🤣. Trace drove this lot without a hint of a problem. Thanks @stewblack. Epifani sounds bloody awesome on its own @ 500watts too.3 points

Ooops sorry haven't been on in a while. It'd definitely be a massive help if you had one knocking about, I'd only need it for a few days (assuming I could figure it out in that time...), I'd massively appreicate it. On a different note, the fruits of lockdown - I've finally got into label printed graphics (waaaaay better than transparent waterslide decals) and I apologise for nothing. Top - EQD Ghost echo clone, lovetone doppelganer clone (phaser), madbean dreamtime (an amazing FV-1 delay in a 1590a) Bottom - Frostwave funk-a-duck clone (absolutely mad envelope filter), DBA space ring with improvements (deadendfx wurmloch, ring mod) Rate LEDs on the phaser are tempoerarily a bit rough because the 10mm LED bezels I thought I had were actually 8mm, so they're bezel-less for now3 points

Just did little bits today: - sanded and remodeled the headstock - stuck a bunch of dowels and toothpick into existing holes - cut several pieces of Zebrano to size so I can bookmatch them next time - finalised the body shape (shortened upper and lower horn a bit) ready for sanding/routing/contouring - procured a cheap and cheerful P pickup Not much worth snapping, but here are a few pics.2 points

Misty morning, Clouds in the sky, Without warning, the wizard walks by Casting his shadow, weaving his spell Funny clothes, tinkling bell. Now, where to start? If its misty, how do you know if there are clouds in the sky. But lets assume its a light mist and you can see the clouds. If its cloudy, you don't generally cast a shadow. Even so, if the wizard is carrying a tinkling bell you might think he isn't arriving without warning.2 points
