For sale (feeler): Modulus Flea 5 Very nice sage green metallic '98 Modulus Flea 5 with the sought after Lane Poor pickup. As you can see it has a matching headstock. Its a great bass with excellent playability and excellent sound. The bass is in very good shape with one lacquer chip and some minor scuffing. The neck is straight and allows low action, and all electronics and hardware work like they should. Fresh DR sunbeams are fitted. The pictures are taken in 2 sessions: daylight and sunlight. It looks especially nice in sunlight where the green really shines. The original case is included, which has one stud broken off (case can stand stable) and another damage on the front. I probably shouldn't sell this one, but I stumbled on another long time bucket list bass... And need to fill the gap, especially as Ill be moving in the next 2 months. I might withdraw this add if some of my other stuff sells first. Price: €2.950 (approx £2.650) The bass is located in the Netherlands, but I am happy to ship within the EU/UK at buyers risk and expense. Partial trades (four string stingray 2eq) are considered.4 points

Well, I wouldn't really want to comment on anything outside of music regarding EC, but as a musician he is far from bland. Or should I say , more specifically, as a guitarist he is definitely not bland. He has got real fire and aggression in his playing , as well as all the other subtleties of a great musician . He may have suffered from his fairly conventional musical direction over the past 30 or maybe even 40 years, but he is still a lethal guitar player, no doubt about that. I think EC and Phil Collins have suffered the same fate in terms of their public perception as musicians in so much as they as both extraordinary players with a unique personality on their respective instruments, but they re dismissed out of hand by some musos because of their mainstream popularity. Yes, their music can tend towards the middle of the road, but as players they have always been as hip as anybody you could care to mention.4 points

And today, I have had it back fixed, with a new neck (an older neck, the serial number is on the neck on all modern ibanez). Or maybe I have a new bass with an old body. Anyway, as I mentioned the B string wasn't as good as the 2605, I can say the B string on this new neck is really bright and punchy and nothing like the other one. Initial unplugged impression is that it is better than the SRs. So I suspect that as that crack was on the B string anchor, that the problem that caused the crack was there before the crack appeared.4 points

Apologies - I’d been promising this for a while - the fretless now restored entirely and on view here with its non-identical twin. A bit of natural light this morning so front and rear facings. Unusually, Mica selected the more dramatically figured facings for the rear of the fretless. Massive thanks to Bow, the Gallery, Mica and others for some world-class work/advice on getting the fretless back to ‘as new’4 points

You’re very kind but I think mine’s unique - sort of squiffy baritone clanger. Here’s a better image though and with its non-identical twin4 points

I've spoken to you a few times now about your conduct on the forum, but it doesn't seem to be sinking in. You have your opinion, and I think those you are challenging have clearly and eloquently set out their stall by way of reply. You don't need to keep prodding for some sort of vindication or apology - and when it's clear none is forthcoming you revert to type by throwing remarks like this around. To be clear, the mods: Are unpaid Considered friends Are all Interested in this forum being well balanced and open Are not moderating for fun or power Don't deserve to be spoken to like that and finally, they're human. Well I think. Mostly. Any thoughts on that?4 points

Well, Eric's playing an A minor chord on an acoustic guitar so it's either a sad or a meaningful song and he's playing it in front of an old caravan so it's probably a sad song in A minor about how he can't afford a new caravan.3 points

I met him a few years back after a Steven Wilson gig & took the opporunity to rib him gently about the fact that, since Too Shy was the first slap part I''d ever learned, it was therefore his fault I'd spent the mid '80s shoehorning inappropriate & badly-played slap into dozens of unsuspecting songs! The poor chap seemed genuinely apologetic! A lovely gentleman and an absolutely immense player. And this is a perfect opportunity to post this again:3 points

I think there is a danger here of an accepted wisdom being formed. The (frankly insulting) idea that only cloth eared, hopeless amateur musicians like a mid scooped bass sound is far from universally accepted as true. There is no one perfect sound. Only what you like.3 points

Musical Youth - Pass the Dutchie A Dutchie is a heavy cast iron cooking pot - not suitable for passing around from the left hand side, or indeed any other direction, and is more suited to central serving. Why didn't they simply replace the word "Dutchie" with an object which is commonly passed around?3 points

I don't think you need to think about this unless you're designing a bass amp - or looking to buy an old one that has a bad reputation for shutting down on loud gigs (there must be some but I can't think of one!) You need a much bigger heatsink with passive cooling vs forced air cooling. Most amps with fans will have heatsinks too, just the fan allows the heatsink to be smaller, light and cheaper.3 points

I'm continually searching for new music and spent about €80 on bandcamp last week on bands I had never heard of before. There's nothing quite like the thrill of finding a new band who do "it" for you. You've got to kiss a lot of frogs, though 😂3 points

People are created out of the environment we live in. I don't know how old you are, but in the 50s and 60s I remember there were a few "casual slang" terms we used for referring to our dusky bretherin who were beginning to appear in the area. Many theories about their cleanliness and lifestyles were banded about. Move forward 50 and we all have been told the errors and we now know those names are wrong. Totally wrong, not even in jest are they excusable. Many of us who will have used the N word on occasions 50 years back are today's angry protestors on a BLM rally. So, in conclusion, Sir: you are wrong. 50 years is a long time for our environement and view to have changed.3 points

If this is a sincere belief, I despair. 'Glass houses' and 'stones' come to mind, as do 'pots' and 'kettles'. Just for balance, I'd suggest 'pardon' and 'forgiveness' as elements of vocabulary.3 points

Do you not think it would be ‘was a racist’? I also have no time for racist musicians, but the racist incident was over 40 years ago when EC was on a drug and booze fuelled downward spiral that nearly killed him. He has since spoken of how ashamed he is and apologised for his comments. This doesn’t condone his behaviour but does show how he realises how wrong it was. He speaks of this in the recent ‘Life in 12 Bars’ documentary.3 points

Markbass TTE 501 Amp in very good condition. Everything works as it should with no issues. Lightweight, loud, punchy, quiet fan, PAT tested last September. Always wanted one of these so picked it up a couple of years back. Last used on a lockdown recording for the preamp. DI works a treat. My son gets the odd pro bass gig and he doesn't want me to move it, so unless he wants to buy it off me 😎. Recent change of main bass, I'm favouring a more cleaner sterile tone hence this post. Any questions please ask. Prefer cash on collection, otherwise add £25 for postage. Thanks for looking.2 points

I accidently saw EC live when my girlfriend at the time bought me tickets to Sheryl Crow at Shepherds Bush Empire, and Crow brought him on for a track or two as a surprise. Did nothing for me. He's only produced one decent album in his carreer and that was the Ocean Boulevard jobbie. Didnt like Cream one bit. Having said that, he has had quite a career, so my opinion is null and void. Its just personal taste after all. As for that pimple Bridgers, lets see how long her attention seeking career lasts.2 points

In short yes. Long answer, Im a 33 year old Metal head, mellowing out, I like the groove so Im into Stoner rock and stuff, but getting big into Blues and stuff like that, I have just discovered Ten Years After (older folk dont shout at me!?) and they're from my neck of the woods too, thought we just had Statham and Richard Bacon as "famous" people from here.2 points

At a Bass Show, I asked Peter Hook, how he felt about being portrayed in films. He said he was surprised how wrong Ralph Little got it, bearing in mind he knew his ex-wife 😆2 points

I get you there @Baxlin. For something that started off as a simple question about whether his music is mediocre the thread seemed to take a turn for the worse. Shame as it could have been an interesting thread and could have been used for other "mature" musicians still going. Dave2 points

It took me a couple of views to figure out what was wrong with this and it is just that Gaga isn't very good at dancing. It must have cost mega bucks too. It reminds me of the brilliant spoof by Darvid Brent/RG's Lady Gypsy below.2 points

Excuse me, I was complimenting her on her bass playing ability, presentational skills and ability to ride a unicycle whilst doing those two things rather than making smutty innuendo like some, thanks @stewblack there2 points

Clapton. Once he was brilliant. He lost his way with drugs and mental health issues. That racist rant can be, perhaps, forgiven but not forgotten. Not for being in a different context, but because he was screwed up. The worst aspect being that it was a kick in the teeth for all the people whose shoulders he had stood on, and others who were (and some who still are) his friends. It was certainly a nadir for a life that's had some ups and downs. But I'm willing to believe that wasn't the 'real' Clapton. It was sensibly, if not fully, explored in that recent documentary. I don't think his views were as deeply rooted as, say, Wagner's anti-semitism, but that doesn't stop me appreciating Wagner's music - it does help give it a context. But for Clapton, that rant doesn't seem to make any sense in the context of his life and music. Ironically when Clapton got his stinky poo back together, he had completely lost his edge, musically, at least as a songwriter. He can still achieve brilliance as a soloist, but like Mark Knopfler he's wholeheartedly embraced the middle of the musical road for his own output. And if we are all going to have any chance of living in harmony, we have to remember to 'hate the sin, not the sinner' and accept that people can change and redeem themselves {all said in a religion-neutral way].2 points

Using her allegations of abuse at the hands of Ryan Adams is pretty darn low in this context. If you don't like her music or opinions, fine...but don't try and discredit her by dragging in your opinion of her very serious allegations against him.2 points

Mediocre means “of average quality, not very good” and I think it’s fair to apply that to the last 30 years or so of his music. I find it bland and dull, albeit immaculately played. Eric’s fans and customers disagree and vote with their wallets so the joke is on me and Phoebe, I suppose 🙂2 points
