Still loving my Sandberg. The light weight, the fast neck, the tonal options, the Black Label pickups. Everything about this bass makes it a joy to play. Even the stock strings I was impressed with but it turns out they are GHS Super Steels, made to Sandberg's specs. The only issue I did have is with the push/pull, active/passive volume pot. On active mode, there were no scratchy sounds when turning the pot but on passive mode, it was crackling non-stop. I made sure the pot was secure and seated correctly, tried contact cleaner, even removed the pot entirely to look at it but nothing jumped out. I messaged Sandberg to ask their thoughts on the issue and they responded by sending out a brand new pot free of charge! I have now installed it and no more scratchy sounds on either mode.7 points

OK folks we have 107 confirmed buyers with at least one set each. I have placed the order with the supplier who will put them into production very soon and let me know an approx timescale. Once they land I'll email everyone on the pre-sale list with payment instructions. When those orders are shipped the locks will go on general sale (price tbc) and I will update that here. I'll leave the pre-order list open until sometime tomorrow when I get info regarding timescales, then I'll lock this thread and make a new one when they are available to the wider community. Cheers all of you who have supported this little venture! Keep subscribed to this thread for updates. ped5 points

Years ago I had a similar white one and I sold it..Within a couple of hours I had around five people who wanted to buy it (I wasn't asking much, around 600 euros if I recall correctly). At the end of the day I got a reaction from a young bassplayer from Holland who said this was his dream bass but he couldn't afford it.. He said that he was going to work during the holidays picking fruit from trees to earn this bass but this would mean that I had to wait another six months and he didn't expect me to keep this for him.. I kept the bass, he worked hard for his bass picking fruit from trees and afterwards he came to see me (his father drove the car and told me that he wanted his son to work for what he desired) and he left with the white Miller bass.. I'm always glad to see one, reminds me of the young boy from Northern Holland...(sorry for the off topic)5 points

Hello guys . I'm putting up for sale my 2004 Sadowsky NYC vintage 5 The specs are as following: Swamp ash body (4.1 kg) not chambered because of the natural finish Maple neck and ebony fingerboard ( 21 frets ) Standard hardware and pickups, VTC preamp Softcase included It comes with two pickguards and a ramp. One clear pickguard and one black The bass is in good working condition but has some player's wear. No problems with the neck , frets or the electronics. It has some dings around the body and the main optical issue is recent crack in the finish that happened when the bass was moved from one rehearsal space to another. Later edit: I asked today a friend of mine who is a luthier to check the crack and he confirmed that it appears to be a finish crack in the poly finish and i should not worry. The price is 3200 euros ( 2870 pounds ) + shipping. The bass is located in Bucharest , Romania. The shipping in europe is somewhere between 70-100 euros depending on the country . As a method of payment I preffer a bank trasfer but I also have paypal and transferwise. Drop me a line if you're interested4 points

I've been off the last 2 weekends. Maple Road is back on stage this Sunday. It's an outside Country Club gig. We start at 5:00. We haven't played inside since the Covid. Side note, my friend and great guitarist/ producer of 60 years went to a an old recording studio that was selling off gear. He found a GK 400RB Ii. He sent it to me. The thing looks brand new. It's nice when you receive a gift you can actually use Blue4 points

For us it was on Bank Holiday Sunday, two days ago, with Damo And The Dynamites. Great setting, excellent, appreciative audience, decent sound, but cold, very cold!4 points

Ok, I’m mega late to this party... first time I’ve logged in here for about a year, but.. I’m Shep and I’m still alive. My old blog was closed down when I stopped playing bass as much (I got a record deal ‘producing’ for an electronic act - WRISTS) but Si offered to host all the interviews I’d done so everyone could still read them - hence the Shep/Si connection. My old ‘band’ was Our Helical Mind - google it and you’ll find stuff on Bandcamp and Spotify. We were 2 guys using drums and a bass to make analogue drum & bass. It was fun, but we kinda peaked at what we could do with just 2 of us around the release of ‘Synthetiks’ and figured that Nerve had the 3-piece market already covered, so we called it a day. The pedalboard was a 2-man lift. It was insane. As was the tap dancing. Thanks for remembering me though. Makes me feel all important! Sorry it took me 9 months to reply!4 points

Over these past few months of lockdown I've taken the time to record some of my fave basslines. Mainly rock, and lots of KISS, but plenty of other stuff from Cliff Richard to The Doobie Brothers to E,W & F in there.... I did it all for myself initially.....and kept it private with just a few close friends but I've been persuaded to upload it all to the public. I'm playing many of the basses in my collection so lots of bass p*rn in there too for those who don't like my song choices... lol! More basslines being uploaded soon..... so please feel free to subscribe. Hope you enjoy.... and please be kind! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4fUL3cm3mec9PPuWwjxuzA/videos Btw, some friends have asked me why I don't have my face onscreen. This is simply because I prefer to concentrate on the instruments and the basslines. I have no interest in seeing what the person looks like on youtube..... unless it's Marta Altesa3 points

Of course! Basses, strings, amps, fx... I am so busy with work and family life my bass adventures live mainly in my idle imagination so I dream up changes I think I want and if something appears second hand I'll buy it if I want to or if my "i will bid low, probably won't win..." goes wrong. But may I raise you this, changing stuff for reasons that don't even fool myself? Buying gear for the band I'm never actually going to start, or because "all pro's need a..." when I am far from ever being there. Why did i need £155 worth of wireless kit? Why do I have a Badass bridge lying unused in my spares box... Why do I even have a spares box??!!!!3 points

Really? OP asked who’s using Valve amps. People responding clearly are regardless is weight or price. It’s a choice some take as they may have found other options wanting. They are heavy, they are expensive, but as long as I can lift one, dear god nothing comes close.3 points

Hi all, Up for sale my almost brand-new Fender Japanese Marcus Miller upgraded with a custom-made J-retro preamp and a pickup cover. The bass is simply mint, no dings or scratches, in a spectacular Olympic White finish. The preamp includes a really simple active and efficient as the original Marcus Miller on his Fender. Having used the j-retro in other basses it was too much-complicated. So this one this is soooo much in a good combination of the parameter, so you have volume for each pickup and a bass boost and a treble boost cut. You can even set the EQ frequencies to wrap around with the 2 sweep pot inside the preamp under the pickguard and adjust the gain with the little blue pot from 0 to 12 dB (currently at + 6db). All details are in the original schematics by John East himself and will be sent along with the bass. Also an original atelier black pickup cover as the one used by MM is included as well as the chrome original one. Bass will be bullet-proof packed and sent in a Fender hardcase. Trades: Only interested in passives FENDER 4-strings PRECISION or JAZZ basses. Cheers up!2 points

I can show you eighteens that only go to 60Hz and fives that go to 30Hz, so it's no. As for the missing fundamental, that's useful tech to a point, that point being when for whatever reason you can't use a speaker capable of going low, so at least it seems like it goes low. You don't see it used in pro-sound, because there's a lot more to deep lows at high SPL than just what it sounds like, namely what it feels like. The missing fundamental won't flap your pants in front of your rig, or pound chests out front.2 points

Four in one day. This is a transcription of the bass parts played by Dave Myles and Geddy Lee on the Max Webster/Rush mash up 'Battlescar'. I am not entirely convinced of the accuracy of the transcription as there is so much distortion on the basses and guitars that it is difficult to see the wood for the trees. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/battlescar-max-webster-rush/2 points

Had my first gig since March this bank holiday Sunday too. Pub was well set up for social distancing and everyone was taking notice of it. Felt great to be playing in front of people again and it looks like it wasn't as cold as Silvias gig. I have no idea when I'll be gigging next.2 points

if you watch the year and a half vids prts 1&2 they hazed Jason for years and don't think it ever stopped. it was a shame really because I think he fired the band up live wise and after he left and they then resumed live playing with Rob I don't think that fire in their bellies has ever been the same. if you listen to the isolated bass for dyers eve off the justice album Jason is an absolute monster on the bass2 points

Yo!! Oh yeah, YouTube too! We’re in the odd position that neither of us seem to be admins on the Facebook page anymore and the email address associated with Bamdcamp, YouTube and Spotify no longer exists... so material is out there, but we don’t really have control of it anymore! Ha. So yeah, enjoy what’s out there! Synthetiks - prob the best track we made. Utter b@@@h to play live. Soooooo many pedals active at once in multiple parallel loops. In the interest of the amplification question in this thread, that was an EBS Fafner into a Barefaced Big Twin T, though I did go smaller further down the line and found stuff that could still cope with the sub lows.2 points

Testing the water abit here people so may change my mind! Seeing if there is any interest in a potential sale or trade for these beauties. Would possibly trade the pair for a tasty 5 string as I'm trying to commit to the B! Nothing narrow spacing (must be 17.5+mm) and no boat anchors please. More looking for a trade but may sell. Would price the scheff at £700 and the deluxe at £800. Both play great like most laklands. All specs online but they're both 2005 year, 34 scales with bartolini 3 band eqs. The scheff is gold, so I mean, there's no reason not to want it! The deluxe has had all hardware powder coated black and USA hipshot tuners fitted . The deluxe has been my main bass for a few years and is such an easy instrument to play with such a great neck. The scheff is almost mint bar a few headstock marks and the deluxe has some light scratches to the rear and one big chip (about an inch long). More photos to follow but pm me if any more info etc wanted based in Hampshire so would want to meet for a deal. Any trades pm me some pictures, worst I can say is no!2 points

Three new transcriptions to post today: First one is a celebratory on. I said to myself that I was going to do 100 transcriptions this year (2 per week). Well this one was number 100. I wanted to do something 'special' for number 100 and the more I thought about it, the more I though that finding something special was taking me into very technical territory but, then it occured to me, 'What is it all about'? And this one came to mind Sara Lee's bass lines to the B52s signature tune 'Love Shack'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/love-shack-b52s/2 points

Got to say I think the sound is pretty good from the clips using the zoom as sound. Thanks for all the comments. I've just bought a 2nd hand Zoom from fee bay and waiting for it to come. Thought being if I like it I may upgrade to the 4k if not nothing much lost. Basically I want to to be able to do some quick stuff to put out to keep our profile up. Our guitarist does some great sound work but it takes a while so a few quick and dirty videos should work well. I'll try and post something when I had a chance to record something. Cheers2 points

Flats on both my BB1200S’s and BB235. One BB1200S has EMG PJ set installed (but that is about to change, now that I got an original BB1100S PJ set). That one has EB Cobalt flats. The other one, all original, has Rotosound Monel flats. The BB235 has Dunlop flats. Only my BB300 has roundwounds, Pyramids or Rotosounds, can’t really remember. With the BB1200S preamps, flats are just fantastic. I can dial in any tone I want, with no finger squeaks, but as much treble and high mids I could ever need. Deep, clean, clear, bright, scooped, mushy, distorted with massive lows, anything. The Dunlop 5-string set on the BB235 is also quite nice: slightly lower tension than EBs or Rotos, but smooth and well balanced. All sets are 45-105 (+ 125).1 point

Lock down boredom and funds sitting on my Paypal account from gear sales have weakened my resolve.... Ordered a 5 string in Sea Foam Green from Bax for £258... Free returns (though I suspect it will stay) so why not?1 point

For a little while there were individual videos for all the tracks but the Metallica management got upset at those so they took them down and just did this complete album vid. There are still some by the same people - but with even higher bass levels that are great for learning but too high for listening. Fortunately I was able to grab the individual tracks before they were taken down!1 point

You noticed too, well said. This G string thing seems perplexing been in uncountable threads for decades and seems real to those who rant about it; but you may have something there. I have used a Stingray and Reflex with no problems with G but I never 'Max' anything in real use but I did sometimes for brief moments when noodling; didn't pay enough attention to notice G string performance1 point

Got offered a gig Saturday at what was previously a night club in Wigan . That has turned the old smoking area which is large into a beer garden , ticketed event 100 people at circa £5 a head sold out DJ and band , started off offering us a free bar and accommodation we all live 15 minutes away , when we said no upped it to £100 , no thanks mate pretty sure the DJ won’t be doing it for £25 , we’re generally a busy band and all keen to get back gigging but have to draw the line somewhere, our normal price for pub gigs is £300 minimum we offered to do it for £200 due to Covid but they seem to assume they were doing us a favour. I’m aware times are hard but hope it’s not the sign of things to come1 point
