  1. Hey everybody ! Look at what I just bought : I got it for 600 Euros. It's really big compare to my Warwick Streamer Stage 1 but I will get used to it. I'm gonna completely renovate it (sanding, oiling ...) and I will show you the result. Thank you all for this brainstorming which allowed me to choose this bass !!!

  2. Haven't been here in years but thought I would share my Jake. Vintage cream, roasted maple neck with flamed fretboard. 38mm nut. Monorail bridge. Matching headstock. Haussel pickups. Couldn't be happier. Bang on 12 weeks too.

  5. As documented here: ... and with a great deal of help from @Woodinblack and @stewblack, a suitable location was chosen for the final handover to me. Unfortunately a nearby 5G mast distorted my brain as I was setting the satnav and ... erm ... I drove to a different location. Not to worry because Stew had his entire family in the car with him, and they had no problem driving an extra 25 miles to find me and @Silvia Bluejay (who handled my faux pas with astonishing equilibrium) and the handover was accomplished anyway.

  10. Almost 50 years, and still rocking ! Low action, truss rod is working, neck is straight. Beautiful Sunburst finish, with black pickguard and great mojo with the ashtray on the bridge. First year of made from Fernandes... Tone is really nice, warm and punchy. 38mm on the bone nut, like a jazz bass. If you're wondering about the tunning pegs, they are perfectly working. Body : Maple Neck : Maple Fingerboard : Maple, 20F Pickups : Fernandes Split Coil Controls : Volume, Tone Bridge : Vintage Color : 3 Tone Sunburst Weight : 4,2 kg

  11. There was a time when if you wanted mint sauce with your meat on a Sunday, you'd send a child out to the garden to pick a few mint leaves, you'd chop them up (the mint leaves, not the child), add them to a little vinegar et voila. Nowadays folks buy frozen pizza and ice cubes from the supermarket. I have no idea what I mean by that.

  13. Updates! Slow progress but progress no less! Firstly I've got the frets installed, this was a steep learning curve, I actually uninstalled the first set of frets I installed and reinstalled a second set as I wasn't happy with the end product, the second set however I'm happy with. I've levelled them and filed them flush to the fingerboard, now I just need to crown them and take all the sharps off. I got the pickup cavity routes done, and thankfully the pickups fit lovely. I also had the awful job of drilling from the control cavity in to the pickup cavity, luckily nothing went wrong. The bridge position was also triple measured and drill holes complete. Got the tuners installed, I wanted to string the bass to make sure I hadn't made any mistakes and again thankfully everything was ok there too. I quickly half screwed the bridge in place and strung the E and D strings on to the bass, everything seemed great, not going to lie had a little 15 minute play with the strings on, and the neck feels really nice. Next! Loads and loads and loads of final sanding, frets need dressing and prepared for final polish which will be done after the oiling of the timber. I think I'm on the final stretch of the build and can focus on the finish knowing there's no more machining to do! Just got to be patient and enjoy the sanding process.

  16. This may be old news to many of you, but I hadn't realised it. Scott Devine has been running a long series of interviews with notable bass players. If you're an academy member then the videos are in there, but the audio recordings are available to anyone as podcasts at https://scottsbasslessons.com/podcast They are really interesting, not at all manic, and well worth a listen. I've never heard of some of these guys and girls, but then have gone on to get their albums. Others I have heard of like Mo Foster and Gail Ann Dorsey, but don't really know anything about them.

  19. So last week saw a bit of an unplanned flurry of bass purchases, well....two Firstly a 70'a MIJ Camel Journey Bass from @MoJo. Very cool, trans-white/blonde finish, maple rock machine. DiMarzio Model P (which I've always liked). Effectively just another Precision for my arsenal: Secondly, on Saturday I picked up Lakland Skyline DJ5 from The Gallery. I wanted another 5 string, and regretted selling my Lakland 55-01 a year or so ago. So with my Elrick covering the active 5 string duties, and remembering that I loved the Skyline DJ4 when I had it briefly a couple of years ago, plumped for this. Colour is Pearl White, which is actually another little tip-of-the-hat to my first ever bass, an Encore Precision, also in Pearl White: And that's me done for at least 6 months........I think Si

  25. If it were my double neck, I'd swap the necks over and have the fretless on top like @Bassassin's Gordy. YMMV. That handover with @stewblack looks like you're both pulling a massive wishbone 😂.

  34. Q: Why does the guitarist only use analogue delay pedals? A: They have (kicked the) bucket brigade devices!

  35. Oh it’s worth it for the sweet, sweet tone.

  36. Seems to me that FX, pedals and the like are a bit like herbs, spices and seasoning. A chef who knows what to do with them will cook something wonderful using them. An idiot will ruin perfectly good food with them. The same applies to musicians and effects.

  37. I've been fascinated by this instrument recently oddly enough. I didn't even know it was a real thing, i just thought it some mad stinky poo Donovan was going on about! Anyways this girl is quite interesting, trying to bring the gurdy to the kids!

  39. I've used Rotosound on Beatle bass copies & liked them, £30. Not suitable for Hofners, too thick for the tuners. When I eventually got a Hofner HCT I looked at Labella and fitted these, £42. Another option is, £48. I would be interested to hear any opinions about the 2 Labella gauges. You will only need to buy flats once so I'd say spend the cash. I've never used Pyramid.

Shipping is possible, costs and risks are for buyer. For more information or pictures, just ask. *I can only upload 6,95mb? So for more pictures, please send me your email address.

  42. There's another scam with PayPal which goes like this: Buyer genuinely pays with PayPal and collects the item in person. Buyer subsequently opens a dispute with PayPal claiming the item was not received. PayPal requests a proof of delivery from the seller. This cannot be produced (because it doesn't exist, because item was not sent through a postal service); PayPal sides with the buyer. You made the correct move here: i.e. never use PayPal for a transaction made in person.
