  2. Sadly you're right, as it's become clear within the last 24 hours that we're heading towards a second wave. I've already decided to talk to the hall manager on Monday and will then post a selection of available Sundays in May/June next year so we can collectively decide what suits us Bashers best (my feeling is that the usual early April date might be a bit too soon). In the meantime, we can all proceed on the basis that, regrettably: The Big Fat South-West Bass Bash is off until further notice!! ☹️ The good news is that I'll be able to bring my Mesa TT-800 that's due for delivery at the end of October 😎

  3. Okay, so not quite £60. It was up for £110 delivered from cash convertors (a seller I often follow) and I had a £50 voucher. To say it was minging was an understatement. Covid would have been the least dangerous thing lurking on the fretboard of this bad boy. Took the sander to it and hit it with some Danish oil. A new set of tuners and and strings are we are in business. Sounds phenomenal! Check out the before and after pics! Hopefully you'll be able to work out which is which!

  11. I went to see them on that tour and Copeland in particular blew me away. I love the thing he does in Wrapped Around Your Finger, switching between the percussion set up and the drum kit without every missing a beat. Perfection.

  13. Moving abroad and reluctantly selling this Kramer 450B. In good condiction - missing surrounds on pickups (pretty common as they were so delicate. All in good working order. Has a few very minor dings unerneath the pots, and some very minor scratches on the back. I have a basic hardcase that I will supply to whoever buys - not the original one though. Selling for £750 ONO. Seial number 21741 - Made in USA Would prefer local collection (south East London - Forest Hill Area) but could courier. In terms of specs - probably best to look here: http://www.vintagekramer.com/alum.htm Some photos below and more photos here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/RHb5GvvD8vUXBb5k6

  14. Although 2020 means you don't get a nice 7" bag and change from Woolworths! We're the only one of my bands that seem to have thrived during 2020 thanks to some good use of the internet and some creative videos. "Echo Road (Radio Edit)" is the new single from our critically acclaimed album "Human Traffic and is backed with a cover of the Lords of the New Church classic "Russian Roulette". Forgive the shameless plug. https://vivelerock.net/dissidents-on-the-road/

  15. Do bass amps come any better than this? Genuinely never thought I'd sell this but I'm using modelling amps these days and I have a few big bills to pay . . . NOTE THAT THIS WAS PREVIOUSLY ADVERTISED WITH A DEMETER POWER AMP BUT THIS HAS NOW BEEN SOLD SEPARATELY. There are pages & pages of personal reviews of Jule Potter's marvellous Monique, both here and over on Talkbass. It's simply one of the best valve/tube pre-amps ever made. Note that this particular one has the pull/push option on both line level and sensitivity. It's a fairly expensive job to work on these over here in the UK so it's much better to have one that already has this functionality. Works equally well on-stage or in a studio environment. I've used this set-up 2-3 times live and twice in a studio for recording. In fact the last time I recorded anything the studio engineer couldn't stop raving about how lovely Monique sounded. Normally he insists on using his own house DI system but was intrigued by Monique and made an exception for me As mentioned above they've only been gigged a few times and in the studio twice. The rest of time it's nestled in the little gig bag or sitting on top of my Bergantino 2x10 for home practice. It's immaculate and everything works without a single scratchy pot. From what i can see Monique is currently priced at over £1,600 and the gig bag adds another £150 making a total new price of £1,750. In all honesty, nothing in the world of bass amplification looks quite as funky as the Monique in Dove Cage format! I am happy to ship to UK or EU at cost provided that payment is made in advance - either by Bank Transfer or PayPal friends & family. First pic below is the actual unit & other pics are stock shots simply because they are better than I can take: Note: Minnie 800D is NOT included in this sale!

  16. All I did this evening was shape the neck end and grind off the screw shanks that were left in the body. As a respected BC member often says; this is not how to do it but this is how I do it. I found that a medium engineer's file worked well with the neck. It felt remarkably like filing brass! I was quickly able to get to this: The gap is negligible now - Then it was time for the Dremel again... That quickly took off the snaggy bits of screw shanks;

  20. Played this ‘Album’ this morning for the first time in years. Much derided by the Lydon purists when it came out (1986), but I absolutely loved it. It was the first time I’d heard Steve Vai, so that was a bit of an eye opener. (It was produced by Bill Laswell, who produced the Sly & Robbie album Language Barrier from a year earlier that I also loved at the time) Again, it just felt completely different to anything else around at the time... If you’re not aware of Album then it’s definitely worth a listen, and if you are aware but haven’t visited it in a while, then it’s definitely worth going back to! Take it away, John..!

  25. It’s a chicken and egg situation. People are unlikely to put their hand in with no idea about the spec, and if you decide on a spec first then people will say ‘yes but what if’ The only way forward would be for you to put together some mock-up designs, vote for the fave and see if enough will back it.

  26. I am still gathering parts for my scratch build but in the meantime I have found myself in possession of enough spares to build a bitsa. My request for unwanted bass bits resulted in several members giving me stuff free and in some cases it was free of postage too. I've got some goodies stashed away for the big build but I also have extra bits of hardware that lend themselves to side projects. Most recently, @Shepster8316 kindly brought me some parts as in the photos he sent me below; What Paul had sent me was essentially an Encore P bass minus neck with hardware stripped out and the body and neck of a Yamaha BB1100s with hardware stripped out. The Yamaha body had suffered a whack that damaged the thin wood over the control cavity. Rather than try to make an invisible repair I'd probably put a plate over it and make it a feature at some point. The Yamaha neck fits the Encore neck pocket though. It is a slightly loose fit but not bad. The Encore body is very heavy but I am happy enough about that. I may put a piece of veneer in to tighten it up with a little fitting to make it snug. I am even considering doing the Billy Sheehan thing and putting in two draw bolts to pull the neck into the body as well as the standard fixings. The bridge will be moved inboard by about three quarters of an inch because of the slightly longer neck. Interestingly the two basses have the same bridge design so I picked the better of the two, the Yamaha. Tuners from the Encore will fit the Yamaha neck. The Encore pickup should be okay as is and I have a control loom in the spares I mentioned at the top of this post. I just need a pickguard. The parts are used and have a good patina. The body has some dings and scratches but nowt serious. Some of the screw shanks have stayed behind after the heads were sheared off. I am not one for relicing but I see no reason not to build this without refinishing as the wear is genuine and it is a bitsa. Just a mock-up photo; Should be a laugh...

  28. Moving abroad and reluctantly selling this Kramer 450B fretless bass. In good condiction - knobs are not original but a very tasteful replacement. There is actually a spare orginal pot in case which I held onto. All in good working order. Has a few very minor dings unerneath the pots, which are hardly noticable. Small crack on the neck pickup surround - these are notoriously fragile (but has held up for years). I have the original hardcase, which is also in remarkably good condition. SOLD. Seial number 22025 - Made in USA Would prefer local collection (south East London - Forest Hill Area) but could courier. 32. Speaking as an elderly white man, I'm fascinated by his current take on music's domination by the conventions of old white men - just refreshing to have such a well thought through challenge to the perceptions we take for granted. Probably doesn't improve my bass playing, but it sure as hell improves my approach to the music I love to listen to.

  40. I wouldn't recommend 600 watts RMS continuous through a Kappa 15LFA, not if you want a long service life. The "maximum rated power" for most manufacturers (including Eminence) is based on a 2 hour survival rate. My experience through testing of many drivers for calculating warranty exposure purposes suggests that a ~20% reduction minimum is necessary in order to increase this value to 200 hours. I typically use 25% unless testing shows otherwise. Powering with 400-450 Watts (rms) is about ideal for that driver IME.

  41. That's a joke , shirley ? Ebay listening ? About 100 years ago, they stopped sellers being able to leave scumbag buyers a negative feedback. Since then, there's been a multitude of scams that no seller can warn other sellers about. People have moaned to Ebay for donkeys years about this and what have they done - sweet FA

  42. So as per the above, the weight of my 5 piece was concerning, so I have reverted to my original plan, maple neck with wenge centre. Not as beautiful, but better in weight and I think it should work well for fretless with an epoxied (or CA finished) wenge fretboard.

  43. All of our Post Covid gigs have been outside, public and private. Social distancing for outside gigs has not been a problem except for that Beach Resort I didn't see much distancing. We have our first inside public post covid gig coming up on 9/26 at The Harley Davidson Motor. I think Harley will have strict distancing policy abd logistics in place. Blue
