Hello Mark Brian Ashcroft was indeed in the Last Chant as the bassist. He was left handed. Sadly my brother Brian passed away in 2010 leaving me many good memories. I would be interested in buying the case off you if it is for sale. I bought the Precision Bass for Brian after working in the Middle East for a few years. Nearly died when he painted it matte black. Get in touch if you want to sell. All the best Neal Ashcroft.11 points

I've had a custom colur on a VS4. Very easy (bought through Classic & Cool). Sandberg send colour swatches and you pick the one you want. By colour swatches I mean a whole book of them not just half a dozen. I don't thing they do nitro but not sure tbh as never asked.6 points

I’ve only finally gone and done it, as in written a book! It’s all about my many years as a bassist mainly in covers bands, what made me do it, how many basses and amps I’ve bought and sold (gulp) mainly on here, but mainly about the fun I’ve had, and funny things that have happened along the way. I’ve tried also to share some of the advice and knowledge I’ve acquired that might prove useful, IMHO, obvs, as da kids say. Ultimately though, I hope it makes you smile, and you find it enjoyable. A big thank you to @Dave Vader bassist and author of this very parish, who provided some wise words and guidance. He said he enjoyed it, as have a few other of my selected guinea pigs / test pilots. Some even said it was very funny indeed, but I’ll let you guys be the judges. It’s in Kindle format at the bargain price of £4.99 (link below), or paperback format direct from me at £8 inc. postage and packing (which is cheaper than it is on Amazon, although it’s up there too if you want to shop there). If you prefer the paperback format, PM me your name and address, and payment preference (Paypal or bank transfer), and I’ll advise accordingly. I’ll even write a signed dedication inside the front cover if you let me know what you want, which may be worth millions when one of my bands finally makes it big.........there again, most likely not! https://eur05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.co.uk%2Fdp%2FB08CGY1V9X%2Fref%3Dcm_sw_r_em_api_wI0GFbPQ7NSBD&data=02|01||99808ebee8c844256c1608d86e0fd55a|84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa|1|0|637380361560219122&sdata=RmtiUEgYmJOF0HNZAVyeZ%2BFc4y818DMraO%2FBzpL9Z7w%3D&reserved=05 points

Hey all, I finally pulled the trigger on a BBP34. I swapped the pickguard as you can see, as the creme original wasn't for me. Easily the best quality bass I've owned. It seems to have a lot of low and low mid presence, and not loads of high, at least with how its set-up. I'm still working on getting the recording tones I want. I've just put some DR lo-rider strings on and I'm on the fence at the moment, we'll see how they wear in. I think it had D'addario's on originally when purchased.5 points

Matlock is just up the A6 from me. I’m happy to pick up and move it south, perhaps somewhere down the M1.4 points

The bridge is in...... my word I don’t think I have ever had such a complex bridge install. It literally took me 3 hours with the routing, aligning, drilling, more drilling and even more drilling. But it did end up fine thankfully.4 points

It's a Aria RS-800. As per Wayne Hussey - Sisters of Mercy era.. A few bits of lacquer failing but nothing disappointing for a early 1980s instrument..4 points

Another vote for an Aria SB! They’re lovely (if weighty) basses. Here’s my SB700. My first ever bass. Still love it!4 points

I've made a couple of 4 string mini basses which I'm really pleased with so the time has come to make a 5 string version! It is going to have the same body shape as the previous build but just be a little wider to accommodate the extra string. I'm thinking of the 5th string being high rather than low - I've tried a low string on the previous basses just to see what it was like and I don't think it was quite defined enough. I will try a couple of different things before I make the final decision. Going for a more minimal look in terms of wood finish this time. The body will be ash (nearly quarter sawn), plain maple for the neck and padauk for the fretboard. Hardware will be chrome for this one. I've made a start, cut the templates for neck and body and headstock. I've also cut and trimmed the body. I've also got a body left from a previous mini bass that I have veneered the top with maple and cherry layers but haven't decided what it will become yet!! This will be another slow build as I've got loads of jobs to do around the house.......3 points

Fender Japan Jazz Bass, non-export AFAIK, in Candy Apple Red with matching headstock. Year dates as 'I' plus six digits, so around '89/'90. Mint green 'guard and currently sporting a '60/'61 stackpot circuit, though the original VVT circuit and plate will be supplied at sale price, along with a Fender Tweed case. Absolutely no issues and has a nice, tight Jazz Bass sound; even acoustically it has some bite! Listed as in very good condition. No trades or swaps, please.3 points

Selling this one is a tough decision really, in fact I would never have expected selling it, but times are changing for me and I am thinning the herd which leads to selling great basses that happen to be in the same sonic area as others I have. Up for sale is my fat, funky, Fender-ish Fodera VW Deluxe Custom 5 built in 2004. 35” (easy to play: no additional stretching compared to most 34” basses) Madascar Kingwood board Dove-tail maple neck Tiger maple front Mahogany body (I think) 4,5 kgs Seymour Duncan dual coils Dual action truss rod Etc. Some playing wear but overall in very good condition and technically 100%. Very solid bass, (low) action, string spacing (+/- 19mm) and neck curve anyway you like it. Comes with original hard shell case3 points

My board. Built from pieces of wood lying around. Instead of painting it black and waiting ages to dry, I painted in water-based satin varnish. Took two hours to dry for each coat ( three coats were needed ), and installed sone power plugs into the board. Everything works like fine, and pedal power comes from a Carl Martin.3 points

Well, first gig in 7 months went without a hitch. Good social distancing and well organised. Amazingly we were on good form despite only meeting up 3 times since March, though I felt I was on autopilot on occasion. It blew out the cobwebs though and made us all feel a lot better. No dancing but an appreciative seated crowd. Next gig at the end of the month on a similar 9:30 finish WMC basis - assuming they don’t lock us down.....3 points

Fender Bassman TV15 in excellent condition - much loved but getting no use and my back isn’t what it used to be, hence the (reluctant) sale. 350 watts through 15" speaker, valve preamp and wrapped in tweed. Couldn’t decide between this and the 150watt 1x12 so got them both. If I tell you that the 150 watt gets used regularly for rehearsals and gigs in a rthym n blues band and is plenty loud enough for most pub gigs then you’ll have your answer to ‘is the 1x15 loud ?’ ! Condition wise hardly any use and minimal wear and tear. Sounds as good as the day it was born. Proper valvey warmth. Removable castors. Photographed with its little brother - 15 inch on the right Im based in stoke, regularly travel to London and M4 corridor,. Could courier but no idea how much the cost would be.3 points

Here is a quite unique old Sadowsky J5. This beautiful light blue thing bas been played and modified but it remains to have that Sadowsky DNA all over the bass. Admitted, to some the adding of 2 ‘period correct’ Bartolini pickups may be an acquired taste but with a three way toggle switch per pickup it ads very musical tonal variations. The great early ‘94 maple neck, these necks are special really (Anderson?). The finish seems original to me, at some points it is becoming a bit greenish: same discoloring that happens with old blue Fenders. The neck seems to be refinished in a yellowish clear coating at some point. It’s done professionally. The pickguard seems custom made, don’t know by who. The bass has signs of playingwear all over but no abuse: generally speaking it looks pretty good. Most important is that it sounds and plays awesome, it is light (unchambered!) and well balanced. Other than mentioned modifications the bass seems 100% original. In the early nineties these Bartolini’s, Gotoh tuners and bridges were the ones that were used by Roger and they still work perfectly fine. The Gotoh bridge allows for afjusting the string spacing which I find to be a nice feature since I like the spacing to be just a little less than 19mm. The truss rod and the electronics work flawless as well and the frets have enough life in them for many years to come. The bass comes with an original Sadowsky soft case or Sadowsky gig bag.2 points

Just watched this - always loved Teddy's voice, even if some of the lyrical content is a bit OTT. Was also aware of his accident, but not quite the magnitude of it. And as for his appearance at Live Aid, OK, so musically not the finest thing you'll ever see, but brought a tear to my eye. Will be on I Player shortly: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000ngdj2 points

I know these guys are a bit marmite - personally I love the zany energy of their reviews! This will give an idea of what the core will deliver with the current V3 software. The wah (1.48) and the Entwistlesque drive (2.55) demo'd are good and the X drive multiband distortion also sounds promising.2 points

As a headphone amp the Spectradrive works just fine, its better than my Elf and it also has the Aux in, which is very useful if you are learning covers. I bought this during the lockdown, I was at home, practising for several hours per day but wanting to stay on good terms with the neighbours (I thought my Elf's headphone out was faulty and it was about to be sent off for repair). The B1-4 was sold out everywhere, even Thomann ran out and I didn't want to wait a month or more for new stock to arrive so I thought I would buy the spectradrive and possibly make use of its pre-amp/DI facilities too. Both bits of kit are good value but the Zoom does a lot for very little dosh. Glam rock!😀 I suppose @javi_bassist's pedal board is a bit glam rockish, I am guessing Javi doesn't play in a death metal band😀. The colours are really nice though.2 points

Eden WT550. Just plug in a play. The natural tone with everything flat is fantastic. Military engineering that is utterly bomb proof. There used to be some pictures on Eden's website of a WT550 that was in a studio fire. It looked ready for the bin. All the control knobs had melted but they switched it on and it still worked.2 points

Configure a bass, save the code generated, email Sandberg with tweaks, see where it goes, they can accommodate most things, but there will be upcharges, and yes they do light relic through to masterpiece and of course no relic2 points

So, the reason it's a "super rare fender Telecaster bass guitar" is because it isn't one!2 points

Good work. It illustrates how individual bridges need careful laying out. In particular, the taper from the nut to the bridge must be quite difficult to measure and cater for. I'm bearing that in mind for when I use those myself.2 points

Sounds like you've heard the remaster with the bonus studio version of Clap. They weren't really happy with it so went with the live version - makes sense, the studio version is bone dry. The Yes Album is absolutely my favourite album of all time, and also one of my favourite bass albums, unsurprisingly. It's the sound of a band starting to realise their genius, but still full of youthful exuberance and holding on to their poppier beginnings - arguably they wouldn't hit their instrumental peak until Wakeman joined but here Tony Kaye's earthy, grinding Hammond really grounds the band and holds them back from some of the whimsy to come. A truly joyous album, with Squire's short bass solo in Starship Trooper - climbing up to briefly peek through the clouds - one of the most glorious sounds I've ever heard. I also think Clap absolutely fits and the album flows perfectly.2 points

Due to a couple of new acquisitions incoming, up for sale is my De Armond Starfire wearing fairly new groundwound strings. I've got a set of flats that came off it when I bought it that I'll include too. It's in good condition for its age and has had a couple of mods by the previous owner. The jack socket has been moved to the front of the bass (pic of the old hole added). To be honest, it's much better on the front as they don't sit too well on a stand plugged in in the original position. There's also an extra strap button, it was there when I bought it and to be honest, that works well too for a quick height change. Has USA pups. Hard case included. It's short scale but takes medium scale strings due to the tailpiece. Trades - Try me with anything music related. Basses to Macs. I'll get some better pictures tomorrow in the daylight. Collection and trial much preferred from BB22SH but can ship. Buyer to arrange their own courier and insurance.2 points

There was an utter cringe fest on Jeremy Vine's show this afternoon where the complete twunt had all manner of guitarists phoning in to do tributes on their guitars. The signal crapped out all over the shop and it was just awful. I find him unbearable at the best of times, but he then admitted he didn't;t have a clue that EVH did the solo in Beat It. Utter utter 🔔 end.2 points
