  1. The second of my Dingwall Super Ps for sale. Alder body in a lovely vintage white with tortoiseshell pickguard. The photos don’t quite show the creaminess of the finish! 5 piece Maple neck construction with a dark Wenge fingerboard. Pearloid fingerboard inlays and a pearloid “D” logo headstock inlay. Very snazzy. This bass has all the high-end design features of a Canadian Dingwall but it looks about as classic as classic can get on stage (remember them?) As far as I can tell, there is only one hairline scratch and one tiny ding in the paintwork, both photographed. Dingwall’s custom Hipshot multi scale bridge and Hipshot USA tuners, along with Dunlop Dual-Design straplocks which accept normal straps as well as those with the appropriate lock ends. Fitted with the Dingwall Tone Fusion tone control which has a centre detent - anti clockwise of the detent gives you a traditional tone rolloff and clockwise of the detent give you a passive mid cut. The scale is 34.25 - 32” from E to G. Any normal long scale strings will fit the bass comfortably. It weighs an almost ridiculous 7lbs 6oz - no, that is not a typo. Seven pounds and six ounces. The original Dingwall Levy’s gig bag is included, along with the original paperwork and tools. No Trades - unless it’s an incredible 5 string Jazz that will usurp the Xotic XJ I’ve just put a deposit on! Collection-wise, I’m willing to meet anywhere in London, in a well-ventilated/outdoor area with appropriate precautions taken re: masks etc. I’m also happy to have this delivered via @BigJim’s personal bass courier service. Fully insured and hardcased same day delivery. This is more expensive than a “normal” courier but offers much greater peace of mind with videos and photos taken by him and sent to both parties at each stage of delivery to ensure everyone is happy. No international delivery - sorry!

  3. Got loads. Dylan, John Lydon, Poly Styrene to name but three. But the best of all is Mark E Smith of the Fall. Prefer singers with character. Being able to sing is a side issue.

  4. Lakland 44-64 Custom in Natural finish. I bought this bass in new in 2018 from Guitar Guitar B'ham and have cared and pampered it as i usually do with all my gear. It's in immaculate condition and plays as such. Limited studio use by me only and has never gigged or left the house. Have had a few Laklands including a DJ and 3 different sounding yet indentical [apart from finish] 44-60's. This one is probably the best of all and has for me the best of both worlds, the classic P bass sound with as much or as little of the 'j' dialled in which makes this so versatile for any style. I have changed the original knobs for Black ones with index's they look better than the chrome ones in my opinion. Can change them back if needed. Awesome with flats [Rotosound 77's], i can put these back on should you wish. Currently strung with Rotosound 45 roundwound. It is a cracking bass with no issues/abuse etc Ash body/Black pick-guard Satin finish Rock Maple neck Maple fretboard/Black block inlays Open gear Hipshot Ultra-Lite's Custom wound USA split 'P' and single 'J' pickups 38mm nut I've made a mistake with the weight, the batteries on the scales were on the way out so i've just put new ones in and it comes out at 4.1kgs which is 9lb dead and not the 10lb initially thought. Delivery considered up to 100 miles or a social distanced meet should you live further away..... however, as we are back in lockdown would driving across the country to sell a bass be deemed 'essential' travel.... unless i incorporate a drop off within my working day depending on where i am. Decent Hiscox case included so postage isn't a problem. Would do a deal on a cheaper bass maybe a Spector Legend plus cash my way....WHY Price is £800 ono inclusive of postage.

  5. We are bass players and supposed to be the sensible ones in the band. The guidance is clear, you can't meet with anyone outside your household, especially indoors. We are, for the most part, weekend warriors. Just give it a break and forget practicing until restrictions are lifted. Be sensible and Stay Safe.

  6. I actually played that very bass in the studio during my time with the Pretty Things. I used it on recordings with Ronnie Spector and David Gilmour and also the single Eve Of Destruction, which made it into the top 40. It's a lovely bass for sure.

  7. Here we have one of my Dingwall Super Ps for sale. Swamp Ash body, with lots of figuring and even cross-cross flaming across the grain in places, most notably on the rear. Matte satin finish. Technically Dingwall call this a Super PZ - the “Z” denoting the use of Swamp Ash. 5-piece maple neck construction with a Pau Ferro fingerboard. Custom Hipshot USA tuners which are countersunk into the headstock, Dingwall’s custom Hipshot multi scale bridge, along with Dunlop Dual-design strap locks which accept normal straps as well as those with the appropriate lock ends. String spacing at the bridge is 19mm and the scale is 35”-32” from the low B to the high G string. Any normal long scale strings will fit comfortably - and I’ve tried plenty from D’addario, Maruszczyk, Dunlop, Ernie Ball, Thomastik...the list goes on. The original Tone Fusion knob (included in the sale) has been replaced with a Tonestyler 10, which for me has been a real upgrade as I personally never used the “mid cut” feature on the tone fusion. This mod was done professionally at @thebassgallery. It has the odd small mark/scratch here and there, which you really have to search for due to the figuring of the Swamp Ash body. I’ve photographed the most obvious ones. Weighs in at a svelte 7lbs 14oz! The lightest 5 string bass I’ve ever owned, by far. The bass will come with it’s original Dingwall-branded Levy’s gigbag along with the original paperwork/tools. No Trades - unless it’s an incredible 5 string Jazz that will usurp the Xotic XJ I’ve just put a deposit on Collection-wise, I’m willing to meet anywhere in London, in a well-ventilated/outdoor area with appropriate precautions taken re: masks etc. I’m also happy to have this delivered via @BigJim’s personal bass courier service. 9. Although a can totally appreciate a technically proficient singer, all my favourite bands have singers that would be kicked off The X Factor as soon as possible. It's the imperfections that give the voice character I feel. I'd much rather hear a technically poor vocalist who sang with passion from the heart than a perfect one just going through the motions. Obviously there are very good vocalists that also sing with feeling. Case in point Joy Division/New Order. Neither Ian Curtis nor Bernard Sumner were good singers, hell the whole band were terrible musicians, the one with the most talent, Steven Morris wasn't proficient, just had relentless stamina on the hi-hat, yet they're probably my favourite band. Give them a 'good' vocalist and I probably wouldn't like them.

  11. @Frank Blank As you know mate I have a thoroughly deserved reputation as a miserly cheapskate who owns basses which retailed in the four figures, and yet takes a perverse pleasure in using a 90 quid Harley instead. However, Sandberg is different gravy as far as I'm concerned. Proper decent basses, one of those special instruments I have no intention of ever selling but not so expensive I'm terrified to take it out of the house.

  14. So I have only ever owned one bass guitar. I've read about neck profile, neck finish, radiused fret boards, read loads of manufacturer specifications. But having only really had my hand on one bass, it was hard for me to translate what this meant in the real world, so to speak. So this morning, I went to have my bass guitar lesson. Asked my tutor some questions. Afterward I thought to try some of the local music shops to get my hands on so that I could learn. So today I have tried Fender Precision ( Mexican ), Fender Jass ( Mexican ), Vintage Musicman copy, Musicman by Sterling StingRay Ray34, Music Man by Sterling StingRay Ray4 HH. To try all these basses out I had to travel to two shops. Out of the Fenders, I preferred the precision, because of the satin neck, and the pickups are definitely higher output than a Jazz bass. I nearly bought that in the first shop. I showed some restraint, and thought no I'll wait and contemplate over the potential purchase. So then I went to the second shop. Where I tried the Sterling's. So I spent some time comparing the Ray34 and Ray4 HH. I actually preferred the tones of the Ray4 HH because I could hear more tone choices from the Ray4 HH. I huess more tone of the Ray4 HH is probably down to having two humbuckers. What I really liked about the Ray4 HH and Fender Precision, was the satin necks. Wow they play a lot faster than a painted neck or high gloss neck. The Sterling Ray4 HH, sounded more powerful, and sounded like it had more variation in tone over the Fender to me. And you know when you get that "feeling", you know its the one, that real happy fuzzy feeling, yep thats what the Ray4 HH gave, so I knew I had to take it! I've already been playing my Ray4 HH. Very happy indeed. Photo, sorry for the poor quality the weather and lighting is rubbish hear today! The colour looks way cooler!

  19. For me, a good top REALLY makes the bass truly unique and yours. Woods such as these are like finger prints and snow flakes... pretty much no two are the same! These are a few of the tops on some of my basses/guitars. You can easily get lost in the figuring of the woods.

  34. Lefay 5 string Herr Schwarz with quite a history. As some may know, Jerry "Wyzard" Seay of Mother's Finest has been playing Lefay basses since they started back in the 80'ties. At the time when the Herr Schwarz model came out, two basses were made for Jerry with a special logo between the Pick Ups saying "Wyzard. The basses were delivered to Jerry and over time one of them made its way back to Germany where I bought it recently, as an addition to the two Lefay Capone and Carlsson basses that I have. It's a powerhouse of a bass with the noiseless Rough Crystal PU's, two band Noll pre-amp, and a 4 way PU selector/blend knob. Only reason for a wish to trade is that I suck at slapping on a 5 string, and would like to get a similar quality instrument, preferable Lefay, but as a 4 string. The bass is in a used but good condition, with numerous belt marks on the back. Attached photo's are taken Friday 6.November 2020, i.e by me. Requested features on the trade-in are: Active - minimum 2 band, high radius (flat) fretboard, slim neck profile (preferable D shaped), 19mm string spacing at bridge. Looking forward to your offers, and for the right instrument, a bit of extra money from my side could be possible. Regards Thomas [email protected] +45 6120 9520

  35. In the 90s there was a lot of mockney about. Lilly Allen does a good mockney accent too. I like the singer in The Artic Monkeys accent. It sounds like George Formby fronting a rock band.

  40. The Proclaimers - caused quite a stir when they first surfaced as few (in pop and rock music anyway) had sung in such broad Scottish accents. After first seeing them on ‘The Tube’ I loved them immediately, instantly recognisable and with great songs too. Some music genres seem to suit regional accents more than others - obviously folk being one of them. I can’t imagine Kate Rusby or say The Unthanks using anything other than their own accents. Rock n roll, being thought of as primarily American in origin, means that most people covering it usually adopt a transatlantic style of phrasing. Not sure whether this is really correct, but after many years few question it being done.
