Just thought I'd share some shots of my '77 Burgundyglo Rick 4001. I use this for recording and 'special' gigs. The pics are warts and all showing good and bad! Note '77 scratched into the headstock just below the tuners - not by me!! Anyone other than Alec care to own up to previously owning this?!10 points

Withdrawn Up for grabs my beautiful Lakland Bob Glaub PJ. I had withdrawn it but will give it another whirl as its not been used for a month or so now. Started out as a P and someone added a J pick up ( very well executed) and stripped it to natural. Was truly awfully stripped so I had it properly prepared by David Wilson and painted a lush copper nitro. All imperfections were address and the finish is flawless. Pups are Lollar and it comes with Lakland Case. Collection and test drives welcome up here at home studio or I can courier fully insured at extra cost. Thanks all 🤘6 points

A year ago, I was able to visit F Bass in Hamilton, Ontario, where I was able to try out a bunch of their amazing basses and take a tour of the factory. And now, a year later, I've been able to return to pick up my new BN5. It has a Northern Ash body, 3 piece maple neck with maple fingerboard, gold hardware ( F Bass branded Gotoh tuners, Hipshot B style bridge, Dunlop straplocks), and F Bass' own pickups and preamp. The blueburst finish is so deep, that photos don't do it justice. The playability is crazy good. The neck is so smooth and easy to play. Tonally, the boost only preamp is super versatile, and never becomes unmusical. I also had an F Bass branded gig bag, strap, and spare F Bass branded strings. This is undoubtedly the best bass I've ever played, and I've played a lot. Big thanks to George and Marcel Furlanetto for the bass and the service.6 points

Seems Mr Walsh has been a hive of activity recently! Thanks for these latest updates @Cosmicrain. I find the build process so fascinating. Especially seeing as I have nothing like the skills needed to ever do anything like this myself. It's really starting to come together and is meeting the brief exactly as I hoped.5 points

The real issues will be, how are the handles attached and what sort of Tolex has Alex used. 🤨5 points

SOLD Hi, Up for sale is my Sadowsky Metro Express (Made in Japan) RV4 Jazz bass in Olympic white. Originally bought from guitarguitar a couple of years ago. It is in excellent condition - as you can see in the photos below. I'm selling as my MV5 covers all my jazz bass needs and I would like to get something a little different. If you are familiar with Sadowsky's you'll already know that they are very easy to play, lightweight and sound incredible and this one is no exception. I'll be sad to see it go but it's not getting used enough to warrant keeping it. Comes with the offical semi-hard case. I'm looking for £1500. Bass is currently strung with DR rounds, here's a couple of clips of the bass in action: With rounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsgyyTFKN-Y With flats: https://www.instagram.com/p/CCNq0OiHxjs/ Weight: 3.7kg Spec: Body Solid Alder Fingerboard Morado Frets 21 Nut Sadowsky Just-A-Nut III Pickups Sadowsky set Controls Volume, pickup blend, treble roll-off (VTC) with pre-amp bypass, bass boost, treble boost Bridge Sadowsky bridge with quick string release Tuners Sadowsky Light machine heads with open gear4 points

Thanks Burns-Bass for raising this, a few people have asked me already in DMs This is a very good point. I have full insurance for this as a courier and all instruments/equipment will be insured under my insurance I have taken out for this. A few people have asked me about things like timings. The service is direct from the place of pickup (directly from the person selling the instrument with full videos and pictures of the instrument sent prior to taking it) to the, let’s say customer with full pictures of safe arrival to the person selling with no overnight unless stated. Full paperwork is printed for every delivery. I hope this puts your mind at ease my friend. Jimbo4 points

I love the fact the UK has some of the most young, vibrant and forward focused companies as well as established powerhouse brands. I try to support them as much as I possibly can e.g. Barefaced, Ashdown, Status, Cog Effects, Rotosound, etc to name but a few. They really listen to their customers and I know them on first name terms so you really feel invested in their brand. Well done Alex, Mark, Rob, Tom and Jason. Keep up the good work and best of luck for the future.3 points

Hey guys, Since lockdown I've been doing different jobs as a way of making money and have been doing a couple of bespoke courier service jobs for musicians who are willing to help out a musician who lost everything since we went into lockdown. So I'm doing more of it. Prices are on an individual bases, they're a little bit more than normal but you get same day delivery (within England and South Scotland) and a bespoke service where I video call on pickup to ensure it's exactly what's ordered and that the client is happy with it before I take it for delivery. I'm not a big company, it's me and my van! So if you would like your instrument picked up and brought straight to you, please contact me! I currently have a job next week (just waiting on the date) Maidenhead-Newport (wales) and next Thursday Birmingham to Stirling (scotland). I basically run it as a bespoke service. You'll be supporting a musician and his family! I have shipping boxes, hard cases and flight cases to put the instruments in, commercial insurance and a LOT of coffee! BigJim3 points

Pedals don't interest me, but amps do. So far, the quality cab manufacturers (Vanderkley, Baer, Bergantino etc) who branched out into amp design and production have come up with some great amps, but have limited their sales by only focussing on "super" amps. These have all been way outside of my, and I suspect most people's, budget. Jim Bergantino seems to be the only guy who's making a commercial success of his amp project. I know Alex will come up with a stunning amp, I just hope there is an affordable version as well.3 points

So the pickguard comes off fine and it looks very handsome. Forgive the harsh lighting - not great to take shots without natural light.... Looks like a 4 piece body under there. No real bother for me...maybe a bigger deal for other people3 points

Hi there, I put on sale this active Fender Deluxe Jazz Bass 2009 from the American Deluxe series (2004-2009). The price is 1.250£. It is located in A Coruña (Spain) The Fender specifications are as follows: Metallic silver headstock logo Modern C-shaped, graphite reinforced neck. Contoured heel for more fret access 5 bolt neckplate with Corona California Fender logo stamped. Abalone dot fret markers. Rosewood rolled edge fretboard. Montego Black paint. Gold pickguard Through body or topload bridge. Hipshot USA made Deluxe Lite-Bass tuning machines. 3 Band Active EQ with 18 volt power supply. Samarium ™ Cobalt Noiseless Jazz Bass pickups. Schaller Style Strap Lock Buttons. Alder body and maple neck, with a 9.5 "radius rosewood fingerboard. The bass is light and really well balanced (3.8kg or less, approx.) Abalone inlays are just amazing. The pickups are Fender SCN (Samarium Cobalt Noiseless), with a classic sound without any noise. 3-band EQ and very quiet, with a punchy output. This pre-2010 Deluxe series has nothing to do with the later one. Only good things are said about its pickups, how balanced and comfortable it is. Depending on the EQ you use, you can have from the most classic and vintage sound to that powerful Marcus Miller sound, while maintaining that quality and sound so familiar from Fender. The frets have just been luthier to be leveled although the bass has little use, as I have other Passives and I hardly play it. It has not passed through other hands. In fact, he hasn't been out of the house more than a couple of times. It is the real reason why I decided to put it up for sale, even if it costs me to part with it. For that reason it's only for sale, but I'm looking for an Aguilar Tone Hammer 350 or 500. So maybe a trade for Aguilar + money would be possible. Apart from that I have enough equipment. As you can see in the images it is very well cared for and treated. The neck behaves perfectly and has a very comfortable action. It's a super versatile bass. Includes its Fender case. The only visible imperfect is a scratch on the pickguard (where you have access to the truss screw) that a luthier made when adjusting the neck and he seemed to find it too much work to unscrew the pickguard. The rest, natural marks of use. We will discuss and figure out the best way for shipping. No problem, indeed!! Any questions or doubts do not hesitate to ask me. Thanks for your time and interest. Done 😉 And FWIW if I had a C4 or FI they would certainly be patches I would defo want to download! It's exactly the sort of quality "usable" stuff that bassists should be willing to pay for, particularly if they are, themselves, going to be using them on paid gigs.2 points

Still very much a fan, but don’t need musicians to be perfect to like their music. His early trajectory was selfish in the extreme, there’s arguments either way as to how that can be justified, and he’s not alone by any means. For me, having seen him as the archetypal hippy it was interesting to read the book and to see the other side, and from there to see the 60s and 70s in better perspective. Love Zuma also2 points

Really? I've read the book a couple of times and have been a massive Neil Young fan for a long time. He's probably my favourite artist so I may be a bit biased here but I've always found him someone who just has to follow his muse - it's part of who he is and what he is, it's not something you can just turn off like a tap or walk away from like a 9-5 job. Yes a few people have been hurt along the way, but if you hear quite a few of them speak about Neil they've kind of realised that's just how he is and it's nothing personal, it's just his desire to create and move on that keeps powering him forward. For me I'd have my top 5 as... 5. On the beach 4. Rust never sleeps 3. After the gold rush 2. Tonight's the night 1. Zuma - have literally played this record hundreds of times2 points

I think you have come to the wrong forum, this is for players of bass guitar - many of whom are quite narrow minded in the music they like. Good luck 👍2 points

There's just been a really good (albeit somewhat unexpected!) discussion of some of the key pros and cons of both pedals at the end of Bass Tone thread that Q has also linked to on the FI and C4 threads. Plus a couple of clips from Q nailing the keyboard bass synth tone from Mel C's recently released album. I found the discussion very helpful and some pieces of the jigsaw have finally fallen into place for me!2 points

The track Southern Man caused a real stir back in the day. If you dont know NY, youtube the lyrics. Harvest and After The Goldrush were, for me, the very best. Didnt get on with much else re. his other solo albums, though his time with Crosby Stills and Nash was magic on the the Deja Vu album2 points

What I should have said is that since those modes are all derived from the same parent scale then if you play them over a static Dm7 chord then you're still just spelling out the same intervals relative to the Dm7 chord. It doesn't matter if you're thinking of it as C ionian, D dorian, G mixolydian or any other mode of C major; the listener will still hear you outlining a D minor chord with a natural 9 and a major 6. As I said before, I agree that thinking about the scale from different perspectives will lead you to play different phrases and emphasise certain pitches over others and lots of famous players (Gary Willis, Evan Marien, Anthony Jackson and many others) openly admit that they 'convert' chord harmony to fit their preferred scale choices; most of us do this habitually when we default to playing the minor pentatonic scale over a major chord. The point is that you're still using the same pool of notes, so the overall sound won't vary that much... I also don't think that this line of thinking is particularly helpful in the early stages of learning modes and improvising. Anyway, apologies @stewblack for derailing the thread.2 points

My late Mum loved Stephan, and when he appeared locally ( in the late 1970s I think) my Dad didn’t want to go with her to the gig. She then asked me and I agreed but thought it may be a bit boring. Couldn’t believe how wrong I could be, was an amazing evening and my mum was telling everyone about it for weeks afterwards. This clip has brought back some very happy memories, so thanks for posting.2 points

Just a post-script on this build - one of my personal favourites. I asked P how he was getting on with the Guitar Bouzouki. He was happy for me to share his answer "I was looking for a Irish-style guitar-bodied bouzouki, to provide a rounder and more complete sound, and also a more comfortable playing position when seated. The commercial offerings from mainstream folk vendors were uninspiring and custom makers few and far between, so I contacted Andy through the basschat web site and asked whether he would be interested in taking on a project. Despite being unfamiiar with the concept he readily agreed. Andy set about the build with great enthusiasm. He was happy to incorporate some design ideas from Andy Irvine's instrument and added some signature touches of his own. He based the neck on the profile of my existing bouzouki to provide a familiar feel. He also solved a number of technical problems which neither of us had forseen at the start. The result has exceeded my expectation. The sound is rich and full, and continues to improve with use. It's comfortable to play and feels immediately familiar. The build quality is superb and the choice of tone woods and body woods provides a striking and unique look. The only thing he hasn't solved is the name: we still don't know if it's a Gazouki, a Bizarre, or just a Bouzouki, provided that no-one from Greece is present!" In truth, I didn't get the neck profile quite the same as P's existing bouzouki. He brought it along when he picked up my build for me to have a look at a traditional Irish Bouzouki and it was great to see one in the flesh. But it was immediately noticeable that the 'V' on the neck of the traditional stayed 'V' for much longer than my own carve. It's actually very straightforward for me to tweak (pretty much a while-you-wait job) but P is giving it a good play-in before deciding whether to stick with the present shape or get it a bit closer to his traditional. It'll be good when the pesky Covid is on the wane so that P can get playing with his band again - I'd love to see some clips of this in action2 points
