  4. Due to the Covid-19 situation and severe back problems (66% officially disabled because of it) plus right shoulder injury (non-operable capsulitis from which, after more than 3 years, I will never fully recover), I'm selling all my basses over 4 kilos and also the ones I'm not really using. I've also considerably lowered the price for a quick sale. WARRIOR Dran Michael 7 (DM7) Custom NT Signature, top of the range model, early bird, 1996. ONLY POSSIBLE TRADE : LEDUC U-BASSE FRETLESS 6 ! NON NEGOTIABLE PRICE ! Asking price including shipping fully insured with tracking number to your place in these European countries (ask for other countries) : Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France (excluding French overseas departments and territories), Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Monaco, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom : £1800 GBP !!! (new price still is $8000 USD..) Fully working and in excellent condition. Here are the specifications : Body : two aged purpleheart wings Top : thick aged flamed maple Neckthrough : 3 pieces aged hard rock Canadian maple and aged purpleheart with two veneers of aged purpleheart and aged maple on each sides of the aged purpleheart core (quite thin and fast neck, think Leduc) Fretboard : thick (7 mm) 16" radius Amazon rosewood (Spruceana Dalbergia) fitted by Christophe LEDUC (his last piece of the very old stock) Frets : 24 (no wear at all as they are almost brand new and fitted by Christophe LEDUC when he put the new fretboard) Headstock : angled 4 + 3 shape with aged flamed maple thick veneer Pickups : 2 x Warrior-Bartolini humbuckers Preamp : Warrior-Bartolini NTMB-918 FL first version (18 Volts) with the "tone killer" Sparkle Circuit removed and replaced by a classic gain Controls : volume (push-push, yes push-push, active/passive), blend, stacked bass and treble, 3 way mid switch (250 Hz, 500 Hz, 800 Hz), mids Tuners : Warrior-Gotoh Bridge : Hipshot "A" Style with typical Warrior strings through for B, E and A (they can be fitted at the bridge too) Strings spacing at bridge : 16.5 mm Nut : bone (new one fitted by Christophe LEDUC when he put the new fretboard) Strings spacing at nut : 9 mm Knobs : gold metal Scale : 34 inches Hardware colour : gold Truss rod : one single action (fitted by Christophe LEDUC when he put the new fretboard) Finish : translucent anointed oil as Warrior calls Tung oil Land of craftsmanship : USA Serial number : 04886 Year : 1996 Weight : 5.493 kilos Action : from 1.5 mm under the F string to 2 mm under the B string at 12th position (can go lower, but was perfect for me) Will come with a brand new Fame fake brown snakeskin hard case (with one key as it was delivered like this), like the ones Warrior used. The bass also comes with a brand new set of Dunlop gold Straplok as it's fitted with the flush mount strap system. Non-smoking environment as usual. The bass has been fully set up professionally by Christophe LEDUC when he did the new fretboard fitting, which also received a differential dressing. It has received two new batteries and has been fitted with a brand new set of Pyramid SSSL strings (22 - 27 - 47 - 67 - 87 - 107 - 128). Long story short, this bass started its life as a fretted, then has been defretted, then refretted, then defretted again and received the last (too much) refretting leaving the fretboard almost non existent. So, I decided to give this bass its original design and it received a thick Amazon rosewood fretboard with classic silver-nickel frets and a new truss rod (4 mm Allen key) as the original had broken (a common known problem by old Warrior basses). I chose the Amazon rosewood because it's quite close to the Brazilian rosewood when it comes to tone with clear and powerful low mids, thick bass and silk highs, but is also close to purpleheart in terms of colour and tone too (more low mids and less scooped by Amazon rosewood). Couple this with the full Bartolini design and you get a very versatile bass that cuts through the mix. And then the bass started some kind of Tour de France to get back to me, but it's too heavy for me (now), even if it's really easy to play thanks to the quite thin neck with a 16" radius fretboard. Look at the photos taken under different angles and light to see the excellent condition of this bass. And yes, the hard case is brown, but it's hard to photograph. The mark at the back of the neck that you can see clearly on the 8th photo is the sugar of the maple that has burned when sanded. This also attests the high quality of the maple used. 5. I had a perplexing issue with a recent second-hand Bass acquisition which had an annoying grounding 'hum' issue. The seller was first class about it but I was unsure if the issue was with the Bass Manufacturer or the retro-fitted pre-amp. I tried checking the continuity but was getting odd readings. I contacted Status and John East who both replied and got a 20 minute follow-up call from John this afternoon (as he confirmed it was one of his) on top of the 2 calls today where I'd rung him. The shielding in the control cavity had broken down around the shaft holes which I could not see until the circuit modules were removed. So John went well beyond the 'extra mile' considering I was not the original purchaser of the pre-amp and there was nothing wrong with it anyway! I know it's been said before his Customer Service is legendary, I have proof of that. P.S. I found it was better to ring him as he gets loads of emails....

  9. I love the fact the UK has some of the most young, vibrant and forward focused companies as well as established powerhouse brands. I try to support them as much as I possibly can e.g. Barefaced, Ashdown, Status, Cog Effects, Rotosound, etc to name but a few. They really listen to their customers and I know them on first name terms so you really feel invested in their brand. Well done Alex, Mark, Rob, Tom and Jason. Keep up the good work and best of luck for the future.

  13. If Ashdown and Barefaced collaborated on an amplifier, I'd probably never bother to pay attention to another bass amp company for the rest of my bass-playing days. I've owned numerous Ashdown products at various price points, loved them all, and am currently wanting a Barefaced cabinet very badly... And yes, y'all British folks (American here!) seem to do very well on the bass guitar front. Status Graphite is pretty well the only bass guitar company that will get my money at this point. What else can I say.

  14. A big potential purchase has come up and sadly I need to move on a couple of basses to help pay for it So, as a result, here is my lovely Hartke XK4 active bass. I always wanted one of these as I had played one in a shop approx 15 years ago and had been blown away by the massive (almost Status/Modulus graphite-sounding) active tone, striking black/chrome and brushed aluminium looks... and easily playable neck that felt like it was short-medium scale! It didn't disappoint and I've hugely enjoyed owning and playing it. Indeed, soundwise, it's been a fave of many musicians I've ever played with as it cuts through with authority and ease. Here's the original sales blurb from Hartke: Designed to Larry Hartke's specifications and featuring high quality components throughout, the XK-4 represents a more accessibly priced option for professional bassists. This precision instrument features a Poplar body coupled to a Vaccaro double T-Bar aluminum component neck system with a rock maple neck shell that provides a familiar feel and easy playability. This unique neck system consists of a lightweight aluminum aircraft extrusion welded to an aluminum triple-plated chrome headstock. It not only ensures maximum resistance to atmospheric conditions and string tension, it provides exceptionally long sustain and tuning stability over the long run. A Rosewood fretboard with ultra fat action neck finish and Nickel-Silver frets further enhance playability while the XK-4's Zero-fret design provides flawless open string response. To best capture its extraordinary sustain, tone and presence, the XK-4 is equipped with high performance passive pickups and active electronics. Other features include dual volume controls; concentric bass/treble tone controls; a chrome bridge and tuning machines and a brushed aluminum finish pickguard. Like the XL-4, there is a lifetime guarantee on the neck assembly. Poplar body 34" scale length Vaccaro double T-Bar aluminium neck Chrome-plated headstock Rock maple neck shell Rosewood fretboard Nickel silver frets Zero fret for flawless open string response P-J passive pickups with active electronics Dual volume controls Concentric Active Bass/Treble controls Heavy Duty 'Hartke branded' Chrome bridge Gotoh Chrome tuners Easy access 9-volt battery compartment Brushed aluminium finish pickguard Sadly, less than 1000 of these were ever made when Vaccaro suddenly went out of business and production ceased in around 2002. Condition is excellent (especially for a 18 year old bass!) with just a couple of very light surface dings on the body edge. More pics available on request. These are high quality instruments and were priced at around $1000 / £800 new when they came out. I therefore feel I'm offering a bargain at just £SOLD! Happy to courier at your cost (prob around £50 for 24hr UPS via Interparcel). Payment by cash on collection (from Guildford/Woking area), Paypal (you pay all fees) or direct bank transfer. Please see my extensive positive feedback thread for assurance of a clean, honest transaction.

  15. In an in interview with Jah Wobble, he was explaining how he came up with some of the Public Image Ltd basslines. He said he made some up without playing the bass, and choosing notes that made a good pattern on the fretboard. Quote: "If it looks good it's probably gonna sound good".

Note '77 scratched into the headstock just below the tuners - not by me!! Anyone other than Alec care to own up to previously owning this?!

  20. Thanks to you good folks on this forum I learnt that not only is Reaper a great DAW, it even does "basic" Video editing. For my needs, I found it more than adequate, with 3 cameras, zooming, cut and pasting and best of all, the syncing between the 3 videos and the master audio an absolute breeze as all files are predominately shown as audio files first. There's a whole load of other utilities in it that I haven't even begun to explore yet. So I'd say it was more than "basic" and at £60 is an absolute steal Below an example of what I mean, recorded into reaper, mixed and then video added, again all in the same DAW on a 2007 4 GB iMac running El Capitan. Not the fastest machine by any stretch of the imagination! Handled it all ok, a little slow but entirely do-able. Great for quick Facebook uploads.

  24. This is fantastic news, there are two other vaccines which are looking good and should be reporting soon and 10 in phase 3 trials altogether. To put this into perspective if the vaccine does turn out to be effective at 90% and Pfizer delivers on 50M doses this year and over a billion next year we are going to be well on the way to the old normal. 90% would mean we'd achieve herd immunity with 75% of the population vaccinated. With an end in sight it makes real sense to look after each other with sensible hygiene and infection control. It would be really beyond sad to lose people when the end is in sight like the poor souls that died in Nov 1918. Let's not rush our fences but having predicted the pandemic in Jan and a vaccine by Dec I'd tentatively expect us to be gigging again this time next year and probably by late summer. Let's hope this research stands up but it is looking good. I confess I was tearing up when I heard the news.

  25. So here we are, 10 days later. I now have a new PC with a spec broadly similar to that mentioned many pages ago, and a paid-up version of Reaper 6.0. I've barely left my study (also known as 'the upstairs landing') for the past week, I ache all over, my beer consumption has soared, and I'm going cross-eyed. But I have now edited video. Feel free to share my joy.

  26. A year ago, I was able to visit F Bass in Hamilton, Ontario, where I was able to try out a bunch of their amazing basses and take a tour of the factory. And now, a year later, I've been able to return to pick up my new BN5. It has a Northern Ash body, 3 piece maple neck with maple fingerboard, gold hardware ( F Bass branded Gotoh tuners, Hipshot B style bridge, Dunlop straplocks), and F Bass' own pickups and preamp. The blueburst finish is so deep, that photos don't do it justice. The playability is crazy good. The neck is so smooth and easy to play. Tonally, the boost only preamp is super versatile, and never becomes unmusical. I also had an F Bass branded gig bag, strap, and spare F Bass branded strings. This is undoubtedly the best bass I've ever played, and I've played a lot. Big thanks to George and Marcel Furlanetto for the bass and the service.

  29. Hi there, I put on sale this active Fender Deluxe Jazz Bass 2009 from the American Deluxe series (2004-2009). The price is 1.250£. It is located in A Coruña (Spain) The Fender specifications are as follows: Metallic silver headstock logo Modern C-shaped, graphite reinforced neck. Contoured heel for more fret access 5 bolt neckplate with Corona California Fender logo stamped. Abalone dot fret markers. Rosewood rolled edge fretboard. Montego Black paint. Gold pickguard Through body or topload bridge. Hipshot USA made Deluxe Lite-Bass tuning machines. 3 Band Active EQ with 18 volt power supply. Samarium ™ Cobalt Noiseless Jazz Bass pickups. Schaller Style Strap Lock Buttons. Alder body and maple neck, with a 9.5 "radius rosewood fingerboard. The bass is light and really well balanced (3.8kg or less, approx.) Abalone inlays are just amazing. The pickups are Fender SCN (Samarium Cobalt Noiseless), with a classic sound without any noise. 3-band EQ and very quiet, with a punchy output. This pre-2010 Deluxe series has nothing to do with the later one. Only good things are said about its pickups, how balanced and comfortable it is. Depending on the EQ you use, you can have from the most classic and vintage sound to that powerful Marcus Miller sound, while maintaining that quality and sound so familiar from Fender. The frets have just been luthier to be leveled although the bass has little use, as I have other Passives and I hardly play it. It has not passed through other hands. In fact, he hasn't been out of the house more than a couple of times. It is the real reason why I decided to put it up for sale, even if it costs me to part with it. For that reason it's only for sale, but I'm looking for an Aguilar Tone Hammer 350 or 500. So maybe a trade for Aguilar + money would be possible. Apart from that I have enough equipment. As you can see in the images it is very well cared for and treated. The neck behaves perfectly and has a very comfortable action. It's a super versatile bass. Includes its Fender case. The only visible imperfect is a scratch on the pickguard (where you have access to the truss screw) that a luthier made when adjusting the neck and he seemed to find it too much work to unscrew the pickguard. The rest, natural marks of use. We will discuss and figure out the best way for shipping. No problem, indeed!! Any questions or doubts do not hesitate to ask me. Thanks for your time and interest. 32. The way I see it, at its simplest level use the Mixolydian for dominant chords, Locrian for (half) diminished chords, Dorian for minor chords, and Ionian for major chords. The others(Lydian for major chords, and Aeolian and Phrygian for minor chords) are used for 'colour'. You can get an idea of the different colour of each mode by playing them all from the same root note. Don't think of Ionian starting on C, Dorian beginning on D and so on. If you remember and understand the modes in terms of their scale degree and how it is different to the major scale. For example Dorian is the major scale but with flat 3rd and flat 7th. I personally wouldn't focus too much on modes, but just be aware that they're there as a tool to be used for musical colour, especially if you want to solo. Practicing 7th chord arpeggios for major, minor, dominant, and half diminished chords is far more important imo. That's most of what you'll ever need for almost all gigs and in almost all genres.

  35. I honestly feel like this is the perfect iteration of the p bass. I know folks talk about the Sringray being Leo’s evolution of a p bass but if one were to reimagine the p in a modern context it’d hard to overlook the Dingwall interpretation much like how they did with the TBird. The sound is bang on, the neck feels wonderful and the fanned fret/multi scale makes a lot of sense. I know some question the need on a 4 string but it sets it up perfectly for BEAD. It’s in my favour colour too 😬

  38. It has a little bit of personality but very subtle and only in a good way. Nice workable eq and you can choose between two different eq’s in the editor. I keep tweaking my pedalboard and tone all the time and change pedals mostly because it’s always something to improve. But the Nux has just sat there from day one and I have no plans to replace it. I have an EBS ir loaded for headphone practice but it’s turned off on the amp out. For the money it’s hard to beat.

  39. I've pretty much lost the last three days of my life doing a self-imposed crash course in Reaper v.6 and I'm pretty impressed. I don't make as much use of hard edits as you do (I tend to crossfade everything even if the fade only lasts a tenth of a second) and the video that I have used as source is from only two cameras. That means that I've had to create several virtual cameras by using digital zooms within the source video. When shooting in low light, that does rather mean that the quality goes a bit stinky poo! Your use of multiple cameras seems to have sorted that issue very neatly. I particularly like the positioning of DrumKam. How many tracks did you end up using in Reaper? I've also found that I have to be quite canny in preparing my materials. For my first attempt I (eventually) loaded up FIVE 3-minute videos, being the two source videos plus three virtual cameras, each of 1.6Gb. So it crashed of course. My new editing PC has 16Gb of RAM and a GeForce 1660 Super graphics card that can handle 6Gb. I'd love to share some of my output (gosh, I'm so proud of myself!) but there are reasons why I can't share it here until after a radio program on 6th December.

  41. Have to say my VM4 doesn't have an overly bright sound. If anything its pretty much middle of the road. It suits my tone but i need to boost the high end if i want bright. I use a Mesa tube pre-amp but studios have EBS amps. I have noted that the EBS heads def make it sound a bit brighter then the Mesa even with "flat" EQ settings on amp and bass. My VM4 has Sandberg pick ups. Maybe the delano's sound a bit brighter and more modern. Dave

  43. Still very much a fan, but don’t need musicians to be perfect to like their music. His early trajectory was selfish in the extreme, there’s arguments either way as to how that can be justified, and he’s not alone by any means. For me, having seen him as the archetypal hippy it was interesting to read the book and to see the other side, and from there to see the 60s and 70s in better perspective. Love Zuma also

  44. Ah, so many pedals and so much fun! Of course it depends on what you are planning to run it with. I got it when I did a pedalboard makeover and tried to clean it up a bit. Now i just run an EBS Multicom into an EBS MultiDrive (both in tube sim mode) to the Nux. Clean and simple and gives me a killer tone that sits just above the kick drum and below everything else. Just have to put an octaver and an envelope filter in there to get some synth like sounds for 70's soul/disco. I have a Moer Radar if I want to load more IR's and shift them on the fly but haven't found that I need it yet.
