  4. Gibson The Paul 1979 Very cool walnut Gibson The Paul. The guitar plays and sounds great. It has some cosmetic wear, but no serious damages. The frets show some wear, but the guitar plays fine with low action. The original case is included. One of the latches doesnt close well anymore, there are replacements available for these. €1.250 The guitar is located in the Netherlands, but can be shipped at buyers risk and expense.

  6. So I decided, I wanted to try an all valve amp, so I got an Ashdown CTM 30 Little Stubby. To match the old school sound and theme I got an Ashdown ABM 115 Compact to match it, the 115 compact doesn't have a tweeter, so should rock the old school sound well!

  7. Acquired off here not too long ago but I've decided to try to bust the bank for an original 70s jazz so if anyone fancies a trade with cash your way then message me. Up for sale is my 1995 G&L SB2 USA bass. It’s in incredible shape for 25 years old with only a few minor scuffs on the back. The front is excellent, neck is great and being jazz width (1.5” at the nut) it’s an easy play. It’s benefitted from a full pro set up with fret level, crown and polish, relief, action and intonation set and new strings. The SB2 is a precision / jazz hybrid with jazz style pickup in the bridge position and P bass style pickup in the neck position. It’s a very powerful bass too as the Magnetic Field Design pickups are very hot despite being passive. The controls have been modified with CTS pots to stacked volume / volume and tone as the original controls are just dual volume which don’t allow for rolling off the highs. The original loom comes with the bass should you want it as original. It comes in a decent but non original hard case. Bass weighs in at 4.4kg. Can socially distanced deliver, meet up or will ship (fully insured). Thanks for looking.

  9. I'd keep the Lakland purely because of the aesthetics, really like the bound maple neck with block inlays plus I prefer pristine over roadworn 🙂

  10. Warwick Streamer Jazzman, this is a most reluctant sale but needs must etc. I acquired this bass about 10 years ago, it had been abused somewhat and the original nirvana black finish was in a poor state. Being a painter, I decided to refinish it, first in a fetching pink then in the metallic grey it is now. It is in excellent condition, bar a couple of light scratches and a chip out of the paint where the neck ferrule was pushed in. Neck is straight and it can be set up as low as you want. Sound is fantastic, tight and punchy but with a vast range of adjustment from the 3 band eq plus coil tap etc. Weight is approx 10lbs, so not light but not unbearable. Comes with a Warwick rockbag. Would prefer local collection however I will post if necessary.

  11. I see you've pasted them above, but for future reference, you can follow @threadreaderapp, go to the end of the threader and reply '@threadreaderapp unroll'. The account will roll them into a single PDF, which you can then either download if you sign up to their site, or just display in your browser and print to PDF.

  14. Not free, but I've been having lessons from Ellen O'Reilly over Skype for a while. As she's a singing bassist, she definitely knows her stuff and she's a really good teacher. She'll push you, though. https://www.ellenoreillymusic.com/ if you're interested. We started off with singing scales backwards and forwards - doh-ray-me-fa-so-la-te-doh for major and doh-ray-ri-fa-so-se-li-doh for minor. Play the scale on your bass and sing along - that'll keep you in tune. Try switching between major and minor going up and down. It can trip you up, so take it easy. Also, make sure you practise standing up. Then find a simple song that'll fit within your range. The genre doesn't matter, as this is a vocal exercise. I'm currently working on the Pretenders' I'll Stand By You. If you pick one you know well, watch you don't try to imitate the original - I don't sound anything like Chrissie Hynde but I caught myself trying to do so. You need to find your own voice. You'll also need to work on your breathing. As @Cuzzie said, you control it from your diaphragm rather than squeezing it into your throat. I had some training a long time back and some of it's still there, but Dena Murray's Vocal Technique (ISBN 978-0-634-01319-5) has been a handy refresher course.

  16. Just moved into the valve World. Loving the bassman 100t, especially in 25 watt mode or silent record mode whilst at home... Can't wait to play it in anger. Slowly figuring out the traditional fender tone stack, but certainly can produce a vast variety of sounds.

  17. I only really listen to music for pleasure. If that leads to an idea for a song that in turn leads to me having to push myself technically in order to be able to play this new song, then so be it. One of the many reasons I left the covers band I used to be in, was that dissecting a song in order to learn how to play it sucked all of the enjoyment out of listening to that song. There are now several pieces of music I used to like a lot, that I never want to hear again because of this process.

  18. I have my eye on a lovely bass here in the classifieds, so I’m reluctantly letting this beauty go. If that sells before this one though, it’ll stay put! Offered for your consideration is my lovely Hohner ‘The Jack’ through-neck four string headless, modified with a passive Ki0gon loom, wired VVT. Comes with a hard case. The active circuit is known to be a bit “meh” on these, so I wasn’t too sad when I accidentally broke it. I fitted the passive Ki0gon loom and now sounds so lovely and clear - really opened up the EMG pickups. There are a few dings consummate with age. The neck appears to have been rubbed back to a satin finish by a previous owner. Slim and fast, 24 frets. All in all, a beautifully ergonomic instrument that sits perfectly on a strap and feels comfy as your favourite slippers. I’m looking for £325 posted (UK only, anywhere else will be extra)

  19. 35" scale graphite through-neck. Drop A-tuner fitted to the B-string. Made for me in 2004 by Rob. A few small marks to lacquer here and there, and a small 1cm hair-line to lacquer by jack-socket. Plays like butter and is booked in later this month to be re-strung and intonation +set-up as necessary by https://www.southamptonguitarrepairs.com/. Will be supplied with original Status hardcase. Available for testing / trial in Hampshire, near Winchester - SO53. £1500

  20. My Warwick Rockbass Corvette is finally finished and all working. It started out as a 2009 Rockbass Corvette Basic 4. The previous owner had the truss rod repaired and an ebony fretboard fitted at the same time. I stripped the original finish and hand sanded it with oil. Then the preamp wouldn’t work so I decided to upgrade to a John East Uni-pre 4 running at 18v along with some Dimarzio Model J pickups. Got it back from the luthier as the pot holes needed enlarging and wiring isn’t my strong point. it sounds so much better with more punch and definition but still has that Warwick growl. It’s much more versatile now. I can’t recommend the East preamp more highly. The luthier also commented on being able to speak to John East on the phone about some wiring queries. The Model Js have a decent output for passives and for the price are fantastic. From this; To this;

  21. I assembled a bass from some nice parts. I’d really like to get down to two basses soon. I have a fretless Precision Jazz with Seymour Duncan Quarter pounder pups, Fender tuners, a hipshot badass 4 heavy bridge, brass nut and a lovely flamed maple neck. Fender neck plate. Rosewood marker-less fingerboard (be warned the side dots are not for fretless, I know I know, it’s what I had to hand) Current strings are LaBella Heavy flatwounds. It’s not a proper Fender PJ (the decal *definitely* wasn’t my idea, but i kinda fell in love with the Flamed maple and the skunk stripe was just [chef’s kiss]) parts were all new and unused and sourced here and there: ebay for the body, basschat, talkbass — but it’s a lovely ash body bass and in beautiful condition. weight is 5.4kg. 11lbs yeah. It’s not light wood but heavy lumber and a real woody so it rarely gets used in my Punk Rock Project. The profile of the neck is very comfy and it has a great tone. Just clearing wall space. The neck is bolted using stainless steel bolt inserts (this is standard in all my builds) and this is good for sustain and tone and general sturdiness. It’s also a good low action and the bass has a really satisfying growl. Looking for £399 plus shipping (which is less than the cost of the parts). Also comes in a tatty but safe for shipping gator case.

  24. I just watched this clip by Guy Pratt. Quite interesting how he's approached playing early Pink Floyd, especially as he playing with Nick Mason. Thought it might be of some interest Just to add, it might not play. Apparently YouTube's copyright monitoring doesn't like this video sometimes 🤔

  25. Selling my Aguilar DB750 as I've seen a bass I want to buy and something has to give ! - I'll probably withdraw it if that bass sells before this does. It's a UK model 230v model and comes in a well worn but functional Aguilar 3u rack bag which does its job ! The valves were replaced at the beginning of the year (Tung Sols 12AX7's and a Electro Harmonix 12AU7) Looking for £1000 and would prefer collection or Covid safe meet up within an hour or 2 from West Yorkshire I’ll also look at trades (trade value £1100) for a smaller amp or a nice 4 string bass or a barefaced super compact with a lump of cash my way

  29. Re-writing this post as I've completely changed the structure of the board. As per the patch name I primarily set this up for playing along to Deeper Underground by Jamiroquai board, but have adjusted and expanded it for some other songs too, like Little L and Feels Like It Should. Current virtual board: Top (clean line) Mutant Filter Bass Octaver ZeroAmp Bass DI Bottom (Synth Line) Rochester Comp Synth String Simple Pitch Cave Reverb Industrial Fuzz Tron Up Synth Patches and Use Footswitches configured like this: Bass Octaver and Bass Compressor are always on when using the synth patches Synth Strings activates the Synth String, Simple Pitch and Cave Reverb patches together for the intro of Deeper underground Synth Bass activates the Industrial Fuzz & Tron Up patches for the main synth sound in that song. I play the riffs up past the 12th hence the Bass Octaver, the line split gives me a blended clean and synth signal.

  30. Classic Ibanez is my favourite Japanese brand, closely followed by the likes of Aria, Yamaha etc. The newest one I have and that is now quite a few years old, is a beautiful SR900. The remainder are mainly 70s and 80s. This little beauty, a cracking bass, ended up with Truckstop, of this parish but was mine for quite a time. He sold it on and regretted it. Hiya mate. . . if you drop in here. One of the oldest is this rare 70s Ibanez Destroyer 2495B. Ibanez Artist, posing and also shown at work! I can't say I have ever played or owned a Classic Ibanez that I wasn't pleased with and that goes for the guitars, as well but that would be naughty putting them up on here! Will come back with a few more.

  31. This is the kind of in depth analysis I like It's kind of tempting to put the Lakland neck on the Fender body which would look devastatingly cool.

  32. I'm really hoping that his bass really is worth £7k. If a bunch of replacement parts and after-market paint, all of dubious origin (no provenance or documentation, just what he claims the previous UK owner told him) is worth that much, then my all-original, unmolested 1957 P is worth a lot more than I ever realised. I wouldn't touch this listing with a bargepole. This is not a reflection on the vendor's honesty, more on the sanity of anyone who would buy this bass at this price.

  33. Theres a nice trick in there if you're trying to pick a bassline from a recording where it's hard to hear. Pitch up 24 semitones and apply a EQ preset for isolating bass and it becomes clear. Sounds very strange but it works really well.

  34. Another one nearly 40 years in the making (I saw Rush on this tour) - Geddy Lee's bass part for 'Red Barchetta' from the 1981 Rush album 'Moving Pictures'. Monster part! https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/red-barchetta-rush/

  36. I was handed “Can’t buy a thrill” in 1972 and told to learn “Dirty Work” I did (after a fashion) I’ve been a fan ever since, saw them live in Birmingham years later (I do have the T Shirt) and every U.K. tour since. Never analysed the music as such, I just let ‘Aja’ wash over me, it’s the best Album I own, I wore out a vinyl copy of Can’t buy a thrill and Aja, even called my house Aja..The plaque was black granite and now adorns my daughters house. You can just make it out. Nightfly, I like it, I bought the Becker CD’s, Mrs Blondie likes Walters voice more than Donald’s. Steely Dan is my ‘go to’ music, copped “Nearly Dan” twice at the Stables, great ‘Covers’ band. I’m off to the office to indulge.

  38. Squier Contempory Active Jazz Bass in a mat black finish, which seems to have the ability to show up even a fingerprint 🙂 Has had a set up and has black Rotosound Nexus roundwounds. These are unusual things, but great fun as they are a bit Jazz and a bit Precision in sound. They play and sound great really. They usually have a plain unfinished neck, however during a massive bout of boredom in the big lockdown (self-employed) and as a former sprayer before my Army days I decided to refinish it in vintage tinted lacquer 🙂 Looks better I think and I don't have a problem whether a neck has a satin finish or a lacquered on. Happy to post in these unusual times, or can be collected from the doorstep 🙂

  39. My fault for watching it on eBay, but I’ve had a message from the seller. Apparently, “This is too close to the original so might get wiped from ebay any day, so get it while I can still sell it here... already banned on Reverb!” That day can’t come soon enough IMHO. I note with interest that the price has dropped by £50.

  40. I'm not a technically good singer, and would not have any technical tips to share. I'll listen to any tips which come up on this thread though.Only tip is this one: My main focus for getting the best way to sing a song is to 'get into character'. I try to imagine where the singer is coming from (e.g. sing Sex Pistols then get into the mindset of a weary sneering contempt for the whole world). For originals I think of a character for that song. If someone asked me to sing a song by Bucks Fizz (and the following is just based on my personal prejudice.... so sorry and I may be doing Mike a disservice) I'd try to put myself in the position of someone who was trying to be nice, had never thought of music as a form of rebellion, was wearing a cardigan and singing to their grandma.

  44. The blue P bass is just no name bass. I’ve bought it a couple years ago from FB market for 80£. Then I’ve upgraded it with new pickup, did fret work, made a new scratchplate and it’s sounds much better. It has really chunky neck, but comfortable to play. PB50 is pretty good bass for the money, but it’s heeeeeeavy😂. And thanks for your comment.

  45. Hi, I ended up taking it to a local guitar repair workshop who said they could repair it but could not make it perfect. They were right. To be honest it doesn't look an awful lot better after their repair, however it is now sealed and smooth to the touch (believe they filled it with Superglue and sanded it down), and they only charged me £40. If you want to see photos it's now up for sale on this forum.
