  2. Hi! I am selling my Sadowsky NYC 5! Assembled in 1995 in Roger Sadowsky's workshop in NY, time has yellowed and patinated this beautiful bass which was originally translucent white. By far the best of the 4 Sadowsky I have owned. It will come with its original softcase. Based in France. Sending possible. Thank you for your interest All the best

  4. Hi all, thanks for all the interest/calls and lovely comments. The bass is now sold. Alembic Signature Deluxe MK with Balance K body - figured Cocobolo front and back Red and Amber LEDs 4 string 34" scale Gold plated bridge and nut (22k hard plate) - no need for endless polishing Maple and purple heart neck - ebony board with some quilting (extraordinary - I haven't seen it previously) Abalone inlays Sterling Silver Alembic logo Signature electronics Body is cocobolo facings, mahogany core and maple and purpleheart laminates Heart Omega cut Brass control and battery cover plates Weight is around 9lbs 12 ozs - I'll try to get an accurate weight 2011 build In extraordinary cosmetic condition with no blemishes or marks anywhere. The neck pickup logo was worn when I received the bass but the logo has been replaced and the minor wear to the cover has been polished back to matte. This could probably pass for a new bass. The only imperfection I can find is a tiny lifting of the lacquer adjacent to the nut retaining screw on the headstock (I'm being really picky here). The tone is pure Alembic - bell-like clarity and extraordinary sustain. I've had this set-up with a super-low action (probably too low for most players). The case is in pretty much perfect condition too. Comes with paperwork and strap locks. Pretty close to buying a new bass really. Any questions please just ask. I can provide any images you may need. Socially distanced collection in Manchester is possible. I can ship within the UK or to some overseas destinations but entirely at the buyer's risk and expense (I'd strongly advise insurance to full value). I have good shipping materials. Reason for sale is size. It's too big for me. I'm a short-scale player only and should stop pretending that I can play long-scale. I'm selling for less than I have in the bass. It came to me in near perfect condition then I spent a lot of money making it absolutely perfect. No offers and no trades thanks unless you have a high-end short-scale Alembic. Oops, just realised that some of the image files are HEICs - I'll convert and attach tomorrow. Some images also show the neck pickup prior to replacement of the logo

  5. This is known in my circles as the “The JJ Burnel sounding one” its a self-build that started as a cheapie throwabout and took on a life (and a budget!) of its own. All the parts are quality parts and listed as below. The neck is bolted using stainless steel inserts as per all my builds. Northwest Guitars P Bass Body - £129 (paid £15 extra to have a J pup rout) Northwest Guitars Replacement Precision Bass Maple Neck - Vintage Gloss - £139.09 - 42 mm EMG PJ Set Active Solderless - £159 (extra unused parts for different configs inc) Schaller Tuners - Original F-Series BMF - £80 Hipshot KickAss 4 String Bass Bridge - £65 Black Scratchplate - Mex PJ fit -£11.99 Various hardware: Strap Hooks, Knobs, string retainer, neck bolt inserts, Fender neck plate - £20 Fresh unopened set of Rotosound Roundwounds Included Weight is 4.39kg 9lb/11oz Cost to build this would be £639.08 -- give or take I'm asking £399 OBO. Might trade for some PJB amps or cabs + difference (depending on amp) but not looking for basses. I am downsizing even the good stuff now because of an (ahem, rather big impending purchase) The skunk neck is lovely, the Northwest Guitar necks are really good first places to start as they don't need much fret dressing, they arrive straight and true and need little truss rod alterations, the body was just a standard P Bass but I had J routs cut. Everything else is a straight ahead Jean Jaques Burnel black bass with the addition of the Hipshot 4 Bridge. Superb low action and is a really really fast player, really quick travel up and down the fretboard. You can hear it as bass & guitar as well (its set up to do both) on all my records from Nazi Furs F*** Off through to (I don't want your) Germs where it really came into its own via a Darkglass Alpha/Omega and my Trace Elliot Stack (now moved on). This body has a couple of dings. One on the horns and a dent in the finish on the back. I have no idea how as I never gigged with this. I only made it last year! Truss rod set is at the base of the neck. Its a stable neck so i dont need to adjust it but I have not notched out access in the scratchplate where the set screw is, I like a tidy looking minimal neck-to-scratchplate look. Yes I do ship. UK shipping would be in the region of £18 and I crate these days.

  6. My session creating FM sounds last night was inspired by my having talked @dodge_bass through the features of the pedal for a couple of hours earlier in the week and encountering something which puzzled me. This isn’t documented in the manual under the FM section but I’ve finally figured out what happens with the envelopes in the FM implementation. I had previously thought that whatever envelope was selected to control the modulator oscillator’s volume was what controlled the FM amount in the carrier oscillator. This is not the case. It actually looks like the two envelopes are hard-routed so that Sine 1’s FM amount (from either Sine 2 or the input signal) is always controlled by envelope 1. Similarly Sine 2’s FM amount (from either Sine 1 or the input signal) is always controlled by envelope 2. I’ve emailed Jesse and Niko to confirm and ask them to add the info to the manual. Having grasped that, I’ve found some more cool stuff one can do by manipulating both envelope shapes and FM amounts and I’ve got some ideas of things to do using the dual processors with FM now which I’m going to work on today. I also worked out the other day that the pitch modulation of the oscillators (via the detune knob and accompanying “modulate” button) is also hard-routed. (I previously thought it was set by the the same drop down that selects which LFO controls the tremolo for a given voice as it’s right next to that control in the editor; I was wrong!) The pitch modulation of oscillator 1 (i.e. saw 1, square 1, sine 1) and polyphonic pitch 1 is always controlled by LFO 1. Likewise, the pitch modulation of oscillator 2 (i.e. saw 2, square 2, sine 2) and polyphonic pitch 2 is always controlled by LFO 2. The above means that if you want to apply equal-speed pitch modulation to two oscillators which have the same wave shape, then you need to ensure that the LFO1/2 ratio is set at 1:1. However, this new discovery opens up some interesting possibilities. I might also be able to use this knowledge to improve some things I was dissatisfied with in a few of my older patches. I made Jesse and Niko aware of this too and it will be added to the manual.

  9. Hi guys, It's with an incredible heavy heart that I am having to sell my workhorse. Without any tours in the foreseeable future and shaky 0 hours contract in supermarkets, I am pushed to sell a bass I have taken years to put together with parts of basses I liked. The result is a unique bass for many reasons. So here it is: THE BODY The body is from an AVRI 58. It has yellowed slightly through the years (I've owned this for roughly 3 years). It was bought new from Guitar Guitar in Glasgow. It is finished in a very thin nitro that has worn in many places. It has many dings and scratches but it hasn't been mistreated. It's been my workhorse for the past 3 years and it shows. Some parts are getting darker due to friction (mostly where the arm rests). The paint has also cracked in the back and there is a bit of paint missing. There is also some less visible cracking that I haven't been able to show on camera. THE ELECTRONICS The middle pickup is an AVRI58 pickup with raised A pole pieces. The bridge pickup is a DiMarzio instead. The position of the bridge pup gives you a pj sound but a slightly fatter one plus it's great to use rest your thumb on it. Lifting the tone knob will result in a series/parallel switch, great if you need some extra meaty sound for pick playing or solos. THE HARDWARE The bridge is from the AVRI58 except for one screw that rusted and it had to be changed. The machine heads are original from the '78 neck. The 3 knobs are just aftermarket and the anodised guard is original from the AVRI58 as well. THE NECK Here's my favourite bit about this bass. It's an original neck from a '78 Fender pbass I used to own. I have owned this for about 10 years and I have played countless gigs on it! The neck is really worn in. The bit behind frets 3-8 has actually worn in slightly but it doesn't affect the feel. The neck also has the classic 70's cigarette burn. I added a tiny anchor in the back as a cute charm. The neck has also worn on the lower part and same for the top. I've had this refretted not too long a go and it has medium jumbo frets. I have also had the nut replaced and it's also now cut for bigger strings, perfect for BEAD tuning. The neck is chunky but not overly chunky and it's a kind of neck that I haven't seen before. It's between a jazz and a pbass but not as wide as a Nate Mendel feelwise. It measures between 40mm and 41mm, hard to give a precise measurement as I don't have a precise ruler. This feature alone makes me wish I could hang on to the bass. Here's a video of the bass in action playing a rather heavy cover of Come Together: Here's some pictures as well: ALL IN ALL I know this bass isn't for everyone but I can assure you this bass has been never mistreated and it has served me well for years in live settings and in studio settings, playing anything ranging from 50's blues to hard rock. If you're looking for something with a vintage vibe and worn in feeling you're going to love this. I am based in St Albans, Hertfordshire and I am happy for you to come and try the bass out. Any questions, just ask Thank you!

  10. That's a tidy-looking Tele - and a good excuse for a pic of my bargain J&D Thinline, which currently goes for £118. Didn't expect much for £100-odd quid but I was completely gobsmacked by the quality. setup & attention to detail. My favourite guitar by a long way - and I already have an E serial MIJ Squier Strat & a Yamaha SG that's worth about 15 times what this cost. The quality of budget guitars these days is ridiculous!

  11. Sadly, due to both my bands calling it a day I’m selling off a fair bit of both bass and guitar equipment and this awesome Roquefort blue Sandberg is up for grabs along with my beautiful Ken Taylor (see other listing). It’s in original beat up condition with no modifications, Delano pick ups with I’m assuming a Glock pre that has the usual pull pot for passive/ active eq. It really is a wonderful bass, it plays and sounds wonderful, it balances great on a strap and weighs around 4kgs on our bathroom scales. It comes with a great condition Sandberg gig bag. If you need any more specific images just ask!

  14. +1 As @Beedster said, sorry you have to sell, as clearly, it's a special bass for you.. Great band, great version of the song though.. 👍 Makes me just want to get out there and start gigging again in order to make a righteous, joyous noise (with lots of bass)! 😁 Nice playing too btw.. GLWTS

  15. Eden (not David Eden 🤨) were always a high end amp, but I don't think that Marshall really treated them as well as they should have after the buy out, and changed the line up. I still think that yhe World Tour series amps and David cabs are quality gear. Trace Elliot were super popular around the 80s and 90. The reliabilty issues only really came after they were bought by Peavey, who discontinued the classic amps and reissued them later on. There are still a lot of old Trace amps being used regularly. They were great. I don't think EBS and Ashdown have been left behind at all. You see a lot more of them out in the wild than you do Bergantino or Vanderkley (for example).

  20. Play some piano, a little harmonica, but I never really got into guitar. bought one of these. Ive heard great things. I do a lot of research etc before I buy any musical instrument. £99 for an ash bodied Tele.!!!!!?? It does make me wonder why I have a very expensive bass. Maybe in the future I might bypass a Fender Tele and get a Suhr. It is a Harley Benton TE30

  21. Sorry to hear you're giving up on gigging @karlfer - I know its $hitt ATM - but I'm sure things will improve some time in the future, and we'll all be playing live again. Also, good to hear you fixed the electrical problem with a Kiogon loom - I'm sure this bass will work fine now. Lastly, this bass looks amazing! MIJ / CIJ Fender basses are superb IMO, and if I didn't have (more than) a full compliment already, I'd be sorely tempted. GLWTS and more importantly - keep the faith good sir

  22. I'm giving up on gigging, it's been almost 8 months, I've lost the need, so selling a good bit over the next couple of weeks. I withdrew this a few weeks back as there was an electrical problem. It now has a custom Ki0Gon loom with 2 x CTS 250k pots, Sprague NOS 0.1 cap (for vintage tone) & Switchcraft jack. Original, non working loom included. Frets have just been polished. The White (yuk) scratchplate has some vinyl over the top in black marble. Not the greatest job, but ok from more than a couple of feet away. It will peel off leaving no residue if buyer chooses to do so. 2004, alder body, maple neck, rosewood board. Nut 40mm (same as a Nate). 9lb 3oz, nice low to medium action. Comes with basic Ritter gigbag. Small chip on bass side of neck, 7th fret, which I can't feel when playing. Otherwise very good condition. These are uncommon basses in UK/Europe. COURIER. £47 next day insured delivery mainland UK except Highlands & Islands, feel free to organise & pay for your own. Feedback below photos. Keep safe & thanks for looking, Karl.

  23. For sale is my Ken Taylor in trans-blue. It’s in great condition, having an active 3 band eq with a switch to use it in passive mode and a splitter for the humbuckers. It all works as it should, sounds and plays great it’s the flame in the ash body really making it pop. The back of the neck has had the lacquer removed ala Musicman professionally a few years ago by Joe at Joes Guitars in Birmingham and it feels very slick. The strings are NYXL.45-105’s and still feel great due to lack of use. Weight is just over 9lb. I’ll let the pics do the talking now but if you have any questions please ask. Collection preferred and any trial welcome with safe distancing of course! £675.

  24. Having quite rightly been pilloried for spending much of Lockdown - Part 1 meddling in 'the dark side' of 6-string electrics and guitar bouzoukis, I have learnt my lesson and solemnly declare I will spend Lockdown Part 2 concentrating wholly on proper instruments, that is, bass guitars. And you are aware in this modern post-truth world that my word is, of course, my bond Well...all of that might be rubbish, but - so far - basses have been pretty much my main distraction. First I finished @wwcringe 's African Bass Mk II: Then I did a refinish for @jimmy23cricket , stripping his black LTD 5-string body and making it bluey-greeney-tealey: And for another basschatter, shortly going to add a body and new fretboard to a very nice neck and loaded scratchplate And for another basschatter, @Jus Lukin , just at the final drawing stages of a very exciting project. In the words of Mr Spock, "it's a bass, Jim, but not as we know it." Build thread for this kicking off shortly. In that it means I will spend most of Lockdown Part II (and probably Parts III and IV) down in the cellar, MrsAndyjr1515 is, perhaps, a little too cheerful.

  26. Best. My Chapman bass. It’s just remarkable to play and quite the work of art. Sadly I’m not sure if its staying, I’m struggling more than I thought to recover from the virus and the mental strain of playing/learning is a bit much at the minute. I fear retirement beckons. The worst was a cheapo graphic eq pedal from Amazon. Lasted about two weeks and never really sounded good to start with. Junk.

  29. Check this out, I've managed a pretty cool FM-based upright bass sound. You can track the patch's development by studying the series of patches I just posted to Neuro. (If you want the finished sounds, try 6, 6a, 7 and 7a). I might also post a version with better knob assignments as depending on your dry bass volume and passive tone controls, you may need to adjust the dry input into voice 4.

  30. There've been a few threads on here recently relating to what people believe justifies returning a bass. All I can say given the pics here and elsewhere is that the buyers in question should see what we had to put up with in the 70's and 80's, and at far higher price points relatively speaking. Try and return a bass back then - and boy by today's standards there was serious cause - and the shop would likely say "We don't know when we'll see another bass guitar, and when we do, there's a good chance it'll be worse than this one"

  35. Reggae has to be the biggest genre to cover original songs, I don’t like what I would call the poppy versions which are digitally remixes with just a reggae beat, but there are many that imo are better than the original, this one springs to mind, which I think was by bread originally

  36. The hue of the side dots is due to the colour of the tinted finish and surely supposed to be like that? Both those necks have wood of the same colour, just one is sprayed with an orange tinted gloss to give it the... well... classic vibe you paid for. There's nothing there which would bother me but if you feel you must return it, go for it.

  44. Best: After a gibbering frenzy of basses in and out this year which reached it's crescendo with the acquisition of a rare lightweight 1991 Stingray 5, I now have my "Excalibur". Worst: I bought a used MacBook and a Focusrite interface to finally get into the world of home creations. They are probably great but I haven't had time to even turn them on yet. An additional expense I could do without right now but at least they're there for when I do! Plans for 2021: Total gear abstinence (don't laugh) and begin to get involved with the monthly composition fun and games on here. Lessons learned: Playing all the time keeps the GAS voices quiet!
