Are we all thinking this 'mate' is the same bloke 😂18 points

Exactly. Went inside for obtaining property by deception, has ten prior convictions including counterfeiting and dishonesty offences, and has just been convicted of five charges of fraud and two of falsifying articles and was sentenced to 162 weeks, suspended for two years on 15th January this year. Yet this thread has tarnished his good name? There's not enough laughing smilies to try and express this clowns comedy genius.12 points

I've not had this long, but unfortunately I need to get some work done on my Baritone Sax, so this is on the block. For sale is a lovely 1989 Music Man Stingray 2EQ in lack with rosewood board. It was recently set up by the legendary Eltham Jones and restrung with a set of Ernie Ball nickel round wounds. It plays beautifully and weighs 9lbs 2oz which is an very good weight for a Ray of this era. It is all-original apart from the pickguard screws (I have the original rusted ones). It shows a lot of wear and tear on the body (as pictured) but the neck is very good and the frets were recently levelled. I have an old case I can ship this in or I'm happy to meet near Monmouth. In looking for £1,125 inc. shipping. No trades thanks.6 points

Well, well, well; I have received my refund!!! The person who mediated says that he has seen the proof of postage; though I haven't; however, I've no reason to doubt his word. In light of that, my comments about the seller posting it to himself appear to be factually incorrect, though I am still perplexed as to why I wasn't and still haven't been directly given that information. I think it may be appropriate now to take down this thread, but before doing so, I would like to thanks the folks here for their support; I am sure that it wouldn't have happened without your help.5 points

I haven't done any of the research on it like you have Jack, but my sense of it has always been that Macca has had a raw deal over the years from the mainly pro-Lennon press.. Something that took on an even more zealous edge after Lennon was assassinated.. Come the day that Macca is no longer here, I suspect that the history of it all will get rewritten more fairly and Macca's unbelievablely brilliant contribution to music / culture over the last 60 years will finally get the proper recognition it - and he - deserves.5 points

Hi folks, following on from Sam's Custom PMM4-T "The Mule", here's a build diary for a stock instrument now for sale at a crazy "Black Friday" deal that I'm honouring for a little longer. I'll start with a finished instrument shot (next to my personal JPJ5 in Sonic Blue) and then show you how I built the instrument "from soup to nuts" as they say! Hope you enjoy. Please feel free to comment and ask questions along the way and thanks for stopping by to take a look.4 points

Nothing on here is libel/slander apart from him trying to make you look like a paedophile as you mentioned in an earlier post. He is just using idol threats to get rid of words that, because of his actions, make him look bad (and rightly so). He has no grounds for suing and I VERY much doubt he has the means to start a suit given he has clearly been gathering his funds for his habit in a very illicit manner. You've done no wrong, we are all witness to that. Also it's wise to keep this in a public domain, as well as that message you posted, as if he does start action this thread is very good evidence and is a fairly concise record of events. If you have you're money back, I would advise ceasing contact. Just to note as well, that intermediary who sent that message would absolutely be called to court if this was taken that far, they are an instrumental party so are, and will, remain directly involved in any further proceedings.4 points

Glyn Johns tells a different story (Sound Man, 2014). He says that Macca called him out of the blue and asked him to produce a TV special they were planning, to be filmed/recorded at Twickenham. George Martin was essentially fed up with the band's pre-collapse antics and wanted nothing to do with it. The TV thing never happened, and the project morphed into the Let It Be project that we all ... erm ... have mixed feelings about, shot at Twickenham and at Apple HQ in Savile Row. The reason George Martin got involved was that Lennon and Harrison had been completely fooled by Magic Alex (look him up if you're not familiar with the name) into paying for a sooper-dooper sound system that Alex was to install at Savile Row. Come the first session there, the recording professionals were wetting themselves laughing at a teenager's home stereo. The Beatles called George Martin at Abbey Road, and he quickly shipped down to Savile Row enough kit to complete the project. That's why Martin appears in the montage; he wasn't producing, he was keeping an eye on his kit! The Phil Spector thing happened later, entirely at Lennon's demand, and without Macca even being consulted. What he did to the production on the album was genuinely the final straw that broke the relationship between Lennon and Macartney. Personally, my sympathy is entirely with Macca - Lennon was so far out of order that I would never have been prepared to work with him again. Over the last nearly 50 years the stories have twisted and turned, and many have tried to make Macca the villain of the piece. Unfortunately for them, pretty much all the evidence (and I've waded through a LOT of it) simply confirms and re-confirms that Macca was right all along, while smack-head Lennon was making a series of appalling decisions.4 points

Be a Smurf. Apparently when I was very young my grandparents gave my brother and I a coin each to throw in a wishing well. I wished I was a Smurf while my brother kept the money as it was a waste throwing it in a well. Roll on nearly half a century and I'm not a Smurf and he's got more money than me. There's a lesson in there boys and girls.4 points

Withdrawn - it’s far too good. Bought in August ‘20, it’s a stunning Bravewood with slab board, ash body, Radioshop pickups, and tons of mojo. Sounds outstanding. Bravewoods sell themselves, so I’ll just leave it there. Weighs 9lbs according to the original listing on the BW website. ***The last photo, form the Bravewood website, is closest to showing the colour of the bass. I may retake photos if I get a chance. No issues, and well looked after.3 points

You can use NL2 plugs as well. The NL4 is a 4 pole plug, generally used in bi-amp situations. The NL2 is a 2 pole and will work fine. Genuine Neutrik is the way to go and if you need a custom length Award Session are great.3 points

I had the same problem when I started on the five. I got round it by repositioning the root of each scale on the B string and once I'd got that into my head, I started learning a couple of completely new songs in that scale, so there would be no clash of muscle memory. It worked. I don't suppose this is an original idea, but my discovering it certainly was 😉3 points

I’m ok but in my old punk covers band the singer was dreadful. And it used to make me laugh that when we played Gangsters by The Specials inevitably he’d scream at me: ”Whats the first word”. So I’d shout “Why”. And then he’d shout “Cos I’ve forgotten it”. So I’d shout back”Why IS the first word”. And so on......3 points

The simple truth is that I bought the neck earlier this year from someone on the Wal Lovers FB page and the pickup/preamp/scratchplate I bought in the for sale section on this very forum about 10 years ago I had two lovely Mk I Wals that I had to sell a while back when business wasn't so good, so I kept my eye out for any Wal bargains and here we are3 points

I had a Dano longhorn re-issue and it could produce that kind of tone fairly readily with very light rounds (the kind of strings I use all the time). I miss it.3 points

Glad you got your money back - my guess is that you shouted the loudest so he refunded you. 100% chance there are still many people out of pocket because of this guy. Let's hope he gets a swift comeuppance soon for his past and continuing transgressions.3 points

Mrs Bassfinger says its up to a court actuvate a suspended sentence. So the little scamp needs arresting, charging, and putting before a beak, and a guilty verdict - then and only then can the sentence be applied. Sadly, as much as the Dibble would dearly love to, they can't simply drive the fellow straight to jail.3 points

I’ve played with a guitarist who often forgets to tune back up, the first chord of the following song is always an interesting one 😂3 points

I've just watched this on YouTube and thought that it might help some people pass a few minutes, I've been a fan of this channel for a while, it's mostly guitar repair but his time he tackles a very worn and modified Jazz bass, i think it's a very sympathetic job, and according to the comments the owner is very pleased with the work. I have bitten the bullet, and I hope you don't mind, Bilbo, but I've used your transcription as a basis to adjust to something that's as correct as I can make it - unfortunately it's a steep learning curve regarding the notation software I'm using, and frankly it's much easier for me to play it than notate it! Bearing in mind that I have played Fool For Your Loving perhaps a couple of hundred times in the last 20 years, in my mind it is played in a definite way, sticking close to what's on the record, as I've had to play every note as strongly as possible given the volume that other band members play at! So I have to eat humble pie a little when listening to the original over and over, as some parts could indeed be classed as 'clinkers', in that they're not executed 100% perfectly as I would hope to do these days. However, the hunt for 'perfect' execution means that one plays safe, whereas when Fool was recorded I was 'going for it' (and trying to put some Jack Bruce influence into the bass part) so it was better to have a one- or two-take partly improvised performance rather than a part which was worked out note by note from beginning to end. On Live In The Heart Of The City, I go overboard trying to go one better than what I did on Ready An' Willing, and while some parts are impressive, a lot of it sounds too 'over the top' to me nowadays - very unrelaxed. It'll take some time to produce finished notation to my satisfaction, but I'll put it up on Basschat when it's done.3 points

He's certainly not a hard man to track down, within 5 minutes of googling I've obtained his mobile number, home address, band details, other members contact numbers, photos to confirm he is the same chap as in the newspaper article.3 points

Happy to report everything's OK. 🙂 The bass was in an old-fashioned wooden-ish hardcase, which really isn't designed to be walked on, but somehow it all got through unscathed. The seller is pretty cross, and is taking it up with Interparcel. (Incidentally, I video'ed the unboxing just in case) Right... Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Maggie: In what will be a huge surprise to none of you, it's an early 70s P. '71, to be exact. I thought I was done with maple P's, but this one is just over 8lbs so I couldn't resist. Pickguard & wires / pots are replacements. It's been refinned (black over original black, apparently.) Everything else is original. First thing that hits me... it's massively resonant. Feels lovely so far...3 points

Interesting design & certainly an improvement over the primitive original - but it won't address tail-lift, which the new official Rick unit does. I still think unless you really need the mute, the Hipshot remains the best solution, at least you can palm-mute when using a pick - which quite a lot of Rick players seem to do.2 points

As much as I’d like to say that I’ll put videos, notation and tab up right away, here are the various reasons why it’s more complicated than that: To varying degrees, my parts are not written, and aren’t exactly the same every time I play them; Ain’t No Love will be slightly different each time, and playing it with a different band might require quite a different feel or groove, quite apart from changing parts around to keep it interesting for myself. So although I’ve played well-known Whitesnake songs over the years with different bands, the parts slowly change over time and I get used to the way I’ve played them recently rather than how they were in the late ’70s. Similarly, I would be unlikely to play Fool For Your Loving note-for-note every time, though I do tend these days to try to stay fairly close to the original. The point is, to reproduce exactly what I played 40+ years ago, with the same tone, with no mistakes, while videoing myself, is quite a tall order. If I am pernickety about other bassists doing not-totally-accurate covers, then I need to be totally accurate myself. If I play along to the original, it’s quite possible that YouTube will block the video for copyright reasons. If I reduce the level of the bass on the original, as it’s quite high in the mix, by technically reducing the volume of sounds that are in the centre of the stereo image, then the drums (and vocals) are reduced too, which makes it harder to play along too - very unnatural. There is a way of ‘remixing’ tracks to play to, but if they get blocked, there’s no point. Although I read music a bit, to transcribe the bass parts completely perfectly will be a laborious task, and even more so when it comes to tab, which I’m not a big fan of. It’s better to use your ears! Furthermore, if you said to me “play exactly what you did on Live In The Heart Of The City”, for example, I probably wouldn’t be physically able to. Apart from being 40 years older, I would need to have been in a touring situation beforehand, with my chops at peak level, instead of sitting around unable to play with anyone because of lockdown. Even back then, I’d had to have a hand operation just after Ready An’ Willing because of subjecting them to over-exertion, so there’s zero chance I’m going to attack the parts with the same energy I had back in 1980. [I think I was often over-busy on Live In The Heart Of The City - trying too hard to impress!] Playing and chatting to the camera may come naturally to Lee Sklar and Guy Pratt but it certainly doesn’t to me, let alone jumping around as if I’m on stage; if I think what I’ve done isn’t up to scratch or embarrassing to watch, I’m not going to put it out. I have done a few collaboration videos but I haven’t been happy with how I came across - my fault, no-one else’s. Shooting and editing videos to a good standard are whole extra skills to master in addition to high quality home recording which I’ve spent many years slowly getting better at. I’d still far prefer to be in a studio with experts taking care of the sound and vision. The living situation I’ve had to be in because of lockdown also doesn’t lend itself to being on top form or producing good work. Not saying I’m not going to, but it has to be good or I’m not putting it out. Same goes for a book!2 points
