  5. Been putting things together..... just the wiring to do and then we are pretty much sorted. Expect to post pics of the finished bass tonight, I got lucky and pretty much have perfect action everywhere, just need to raise the E string a little and we should be golden. It is looking mega!

  6. I've recently come to the conclusion that white basses are my favourite looking. How many white basses have I owned? One, my old '63 P. The Wilcock Mullarkey in white has royally fired up my GAS.

  9. I'm having a bit of a cull of my basses at the moment due to moving flat (and accepting that I don't 'NEEED' all I have), and within that I decided to set about essentially 'swapping' my Elrick Standard Evolution 5 for one of their NJS5 basses. The former was a wonderful bass, but I do definitely gravitate towards more 'trad' aesthetics. As such, my Evol 5 sold on here, and around the same time, the following arrived. It's a wonderfully stealthy looking NJS5 (New Jazz Standard 5). All Bartolini electronics (of course). Weighs in at about 9.2lbs, so a little heavier than my previous Elrick, but still fantastic for a 35" active Jazz 5: Lovely If you're after a 'super jazz', then these really should be on your radar!! 10. Wow, that took much more time than expected 😂. Lots and lots of wires to solder.... anyway, all done now. Clearly I will shoot some daylight pics soon and so a quick recording. The thing sounds monstrous through my headphone amp, so bodes well! Will tidy up strings when fully intonated.

  15. I've got the EMG GZR p pickup and tried it a few places - it's got a tight defined sound - it feels quite 70's to me, not a huge amount of bottom end but a very useable sound partly becasue of that.

  16. *NOW SOLD* Hi everyone, I bought this at the start of 2020 with the intention of using it as a do-it-all tone machine for function gigs, but to be honest, I've got far too much gear as it is, and certainly not enough space to justify keeping it all! Due to the pandemic, this hasn't even left my house, so it's still in the same great gigged-but-not-abused condition that I acquired it in. It's recently been strung with Newtone roundwounds, and plays superbly up and down the neck with medium action to suit fingers and pick. The Jaguar Bass is an electronically complex instrument, as anyone who's tried one can attest to, but don't worry- the active circuit, switches & pots work perfectly on this example, and the whole instrument looks to be standard and unmodified, even down to the strap buttons. According to the serial number, this bass was made in 2006, which puts it amongst the earliest to be built. As you’d expect from a CIJ instrument, it’s been assembled and finished with care. There are a few scratches, knocks and dings to the finish in the usual areas, but nothing really nasty. I did consider polishing and buffing the body to correct most of the minor imperfections, but decided to leave them untouched for the next owner to decide. The weight is approximately 9.5 lbs/4.3KG according to my fishing scales. Edit: I've now dropped the price down for the last time to a firm £620: definitely no offers or trades please! This includes mainland UK shipping, plus a well-used but functional Hiscox hard case to send it in. *NOW SOLD* Alternatively, I can personally deliver the bass with or without the Hiscox case throughout the North-West region, or the buyer can collect from my pet/smoke free home in the Liverpool/Sefton area. Bank transfer is preferred, but Paypal is also possible. Please PM me for any additional info and photos, and thanks for looking!

Eve Active gain tone circuit system, Bass boost/cut, treble boost/cut. Spector professional locking bridge. ABM adjustable brass nut. 19. SOLD Relatively new to me, but I am mid-cull, and I have two other 5 strings. This will be withdrawn if my 55-01 sells first. Excellent condition Lakland Skyline DJ5, fitted with new La Bella RX Nickels. Weight is 9.2lbs Bass is totally stock and comes with a simple gig bag/cover. Or I can add a Fusion Urban bag (pretty heavy duty) for another £50. Happy to take more photos if needed. No trades unless you happen to have a Lakland Hollowbody shortscale (HB-30) you want to part-ex. Would prefer safe collection/meetup in Hemel Hempstead or High Wycombe areas. Can discuss postage at your expense & risk (I would then recommend the added Fusion gigbag). SOLD Cheers Si

  20. MusicMan Stingray Classic 4 2EQ Vintage Burst, Birds Eye Maple Neck (No Trades) Located in Manchester Beautiful bass, currently out of production, a childhood dream infact was fulfilled by owning one. Alas its time to move on and pay off some bills. Bass functions 100%, everything works and all electronics (pre-amp and pickup) are stock Was setup last month by guitar repair workshop in PMT Manchester. I have included a ton of extras, (see pic) Polytuner, Pickguards, Pickup cover, Strap, Fender Cable, Extra foam mutes. Has one small dent on the front above the arm rest and common surface wear scratches on the lacquer on the back and corners of the bass. Neck has a thin folded piece of sandiing paper i put in as a shim as I play with super low action. The stringray class by design has a limit on how low the bridge scews can go, a shim was my way around this. Looking to post in the UK as a family member is extremely vulnerable to covid 19, can't have anyone over. Serial # B052788 Manufactured December 22nd, 2010 Build Code 120-RB-RM-W3-CS-C1 Model Classic StingRay 2 EQ Hardware Chrome Hardware

  24. All maple fingerboards I’ve had have been a gloss or satin finish, so they should not be oiled, but a rosewood board that’s not been looked after ,or has dried out ,I would oil 🙂

  25. I'd prefer rosewood, but I wouldn't kick that out of bed. The one I tried at The Gallery (it had a fancy figured top) was absolutely top notch, which is why I'd love one. They have that Wal/Hayman/Shergold vibe going on, which just ticks my boxes visually, then there's the build quality and tone. Damn you, Viv! 😂

  27. I've been having a bit of a bass clear-out and something of a change recently. It's now 4 out, two in.... and I have another bass currently for sale - so no more new basses after that...... he says, fingers crossed behind back Just got myself a MIJ Fender Lyte Precision from BC's very own blues business - a thoroughly decent sort of guy indeed - thanks mate I had never tried a Fender Lyte before. What with increasing age, and wear & tear on joints / shoulders / back etc. After having bought my sub 4kg five string Ibanez recently, - I thought I might like to try out a nice sub 4kg Precision. I was pleasantly surprised at just how light & comfortable this bass is. Plus, the neck is a comfortable Jazz profile. The construction quality feels great, and so far, I'm liking the sound. I like a P/J configuration anyway - but this is going to be different, as it's not the usual VVT controls. It has a "Blend" control for the pickups. I'm sure I'll get used to it though. Plus, I'm not normally a huge fan of active pickups - but through my amp headphones, and through my home practice amp, I really like the sound, and I like it a lot. I've got a garden-room / semi open-air acoustic trio jam coming up - so I'm going to take the Lyte along to that, and I must say, I'm really as excited as a kid with a new toy about it The bass came with La Bella Flats on it, and was in need of a set-up. I tried the LaBellas for a day, and decided they were a bit too high-tension for my liking. So I put some new TI flats on it, and obviously had to tweak the truss rod again - but it's playing like a dream now. It's a lovely colour IMHO, but the only (slght) downside, is that it's Foto-flame finish. There's some slight crazing to the finish, on the front of the body. I can live with that though..... There was some cracking & lifting of the finish at the back, where you normally get "Buckle rash". I sealed this area, running PVA glue underneath the lifting finish, and when that had dried, I filled any gaps and secured the lifting areas with a combination of modellers filler and some super-glue powder. I've roughly painted the area with some acrylic paint for now - I can lightly sand it back and re-paint when I find a tin of suitably coloured modelling paint. That's enough waffling on from me

  29. Good point - if the sensitivity is wildly different between them, the apparent sound volume out of them will also be different.

  30. Still keeping pretty busy, this week I revisited my variable resonance low pass filter design and worked out the glitches: I've now ported the design to all SMD format and plan to add it to my open source onboard preamp collection, so anyone who wants to and can deal with SMDs can build their own.

  31. Impedance It's called Impedance instead of Resistance, because it changes due to frequency changes. Two 8-Ohm cabinets will receive a roughly equal amount of Power from the amp, but how they each respond to that Power will be different.

  32. A (major or minor) third higher is common, e.g. Everly Brothers. Personally, I never got much beyond shouting in unison while playing the root note or walking fours. Good luck.

  36. poor old Rod's getting a bit of a panning, not entirely justified, I'm sure if he'd been assassinated in 1973 he'd be looked on a lot more favourable 😁

  37. @KiOgon did me exactly what you're after, a rotary switch that goes through single coil, dual coil, series and parallel and a standard chrome knob fitting. My bitsa Stingray has a three knob plate with volume, tone and the rotary knob, it just looks like three chrome knobs.

  38. Toneriders, def worth the money, very similar to the Fender Custom Shop 62 (well the Precision ones are, not sure re the Jazz).

  39. No acoustical engineer would say that. Maybe an EE, but they tend not to be familiar with speakers. They are, and that's not a good thing. There's only one reason to use a 1st order highpass with no low pass, that being it's the least expensive option. You cannot use a rheostat, as it does not present a constant impedance load. One must use an LPad.

  40. Rhythm & Sound are great for relatively modern dubby stuff (or their stuff as Basic Channel is more Dub Techno). This is a mix of all the vocal versions of their 'see me yah' riddim.....hypnotic stuff.

Something like this would probably suffice, they might look cheap but I've used them in a number of applications and they've always done the job. https://www.bitsbox.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=116_139&products_id=923
