I find the band's choice of font in that message far more offensive than any fake encore.11 points

It's back! Racing stripe is a go! And now I see it I might agree it looks better this way! I made these tiny guys too, I need to round the ash off to circular profiles but I've basically just sandwiched wenge between the ash and put a 45 degree angle on one side, at some point I'll file in the groove for the string and hopefully these will work better than the last design... If they're anything they're bloody cute Started taking meat out of the pickup cover too ready for routing! Need to get the strings ordered soon but I think it'll be the most complex Newton's order I've ever done... We'll see!10 points

I bought this 1978 Aria Pro Ripper copy off @ash a few weeks or so ago which needed a bit of work done to it as Ash wanted to invest in another project. I got the scratch-late from a German seller on Ebay otherwise it would be a 6 week wait on one from WD. I spoke to Martin Herrick of herrickpickups.com who supplied the pickups. Martin is a great guy to deal with and very helpful in getting the poles spacing on this one right, as you can see he did the neck at an angle to compensate for the string spacing and a big double one at the bridge. I could not order the proper ripper pickups from America for some reason or another but Im very please with the outcome, a wiring loom from Kiogan and a Babicz bridge to complement as the original one was pretty crap anyway. All in all a nice little project that has turned out well, I have seen one of these before now so they probably don't show up that often.. So here she is Guys6 points

This is a really lovely Spector short scale (30") bass from the Euro Series which are made in the Czech Republic. I've had it for several years now and have managed to keep it as close to mint as its possible to get. I cannot see any dings and marks on it but the white gloss reflects so much light it is really hard to be 110% sure. However, my other half has given it a really good look over and she can't find any marks, scuffs, dings either. It comes with a Spector gig bag that is unused and mint. It has a pair of EMG 35DC pickups and a EMG BTS active EQ circuit. Controls are 1) bridge volume 2) neck volume 3) stacked bass cut/boost and treble cut/boost. Top wood (cap) is USA figured maple and the body wood is chambered European alder. Neck is 3-piece maple with graphite rods and the fingerboard is rosewood. Nut width is 1.50". Finish is high gloss. Bridge is a Spector aluminium locking unit and tuners are Gotoh GB-77. I have weighed it several times on digital scales and I seem to get several different readings each time but essentially I think it is 3.5Kg or as near as dammit. Feels incredibly light and well balanced on a strap. I was about to stop playing altogether about 4 years ago due to arthritic lumps on my hands, mainly on my right hand. Someone mentioned trying a short scale as they have lower string tension (which I wasn't aware of) and eventually sold my long scale basses and bought this Spector, having first tried a few short scale basses and not being very impressed! The lower string tension actually did make a significant difference at first but now, 4 years down the line, the lumps on my knuckles are such that I simply can't play any more and so sadly everything has had to go. The Bantam sounds wonderful and never felt like a compromise after 50 years of playing long scale basses. The EMG pickups and active EQ work really well and are incredibly versatile. I was been using an old Trace Elliot head and have been astounded what a wide range of sounds I can get from the bass. The build quality and the finish are just amazingly good; no corners cut and to my eyes and ears every bit as good as a USA series Spector. It has the scooped back as with all Spector basses which makes it so comfortable on a strap. I am very happy for anyone to come and try it whilst observing distancing etc etc. Just sold my amps/cabs and used our integral garage to do that so they could be tried out in an inside/outside environment. Worked really well. I am also happy to ship the bass, if required, as I have a shipping carton and loads of packing material to wrap the bass in. I have tried to take decent photos and failed miserably; I think this is due to the high gloss white finish. Light seemed to reflect massively wherever I tried. So have taken some shots in the garden and some in the house. I will happily take more photos if anyone needs them. I will paste a couple of photos below and provide a link to my Imgur ablum where there are loads of photos and you can zoom in/out: https://imgur.com/a/AXYditY6 points

Because it is going to be important that the purfling is fit well round the rebate, I've decided to use the 'iron on' method I use for veneer and bindings. This is what I will use: A thin coat of PVA round the rebate, a thin coat round the outside of the bent purfling, then let it dry. Then use the travel iron to 'weld' the two pieces together, a few cm at a time and then holding it tightly into the recess while it cools: Then a trim of the excess with a single edged razor and we basically have the binding fitted other than a coat of tru-oil to blend it in: The hatch needs a bit more sanding for smooth edges and a to give a bit more clearance and also I need to create a fingernail recess so that Matt can get it off once the magnets are in (the hatch here is sitting a bit proud because it's tight and I don't want it to get stuck!), but this is broadly the idea :6 points

*** Now Traded *** Hi Folks Up for sale for £TRADED or near offer is this fabulous Rolls-Royce of a bass amp that I bought from Chris aka @Beedster last year after the first Lockdown. It's a Mesa Boogie Titan Big Block v12, housed in a fantastic Bronco case, and it comes with the incredibly useful 5-button footswitch. Basically, it's a dual-channel, tube/MOSFET hybrid 1200 watt monster of a bass amp that sounds amazing and is in fantastic condition and in full working order. I guess if you're reading this, then you'll have some idea of what this amp is capable of, but just in case, here's a link to all the tech spec for it. https://www.mesaboogie.com/support/out-of-production/titan.html And here's a link to Chris's For Sale ad from last year.. And a link to the earlier 2019 For Sale ad from when Chris bought it... "Why are you selling?" I hear you ask, which is a good question given how great this amp is. And the answer is simply that I'm not in a band at the moment since moving from West Sussex to Bedfordshire.. As such, my prospects of gigging are practically zero at the moment.. Plus if and when that happens, I have an Ashdown CTM100 and a Hughes & Kettner Bassbase 600 to keep me going. So here it is, a fantastic Titan v12 looking for a new home and some purposeful and regular high volume usage! 😁 Try out welcome in Potton, Central East Bedfordshire which is about 10 miles east of Bedford and 4 miles from the Beds/Cambridgeshire border. Tea & biccies available as is customary in these circles.. At this moment in time, I would much prefer collection only. But if shipping is the only option, then I could perhaps be persuaded to take the risk at buyers expense and only if its fully insured. If you have any questions, ask away here or send me a PM. Photos below where the Titan can be seen looking mean & moody atop my SWR Triad cab and next to my G&L SB1 (both of which aren't for sale). Thanks for looking as ever... 😊 Nik5 points

Apologies all - discovered a signal/earth issue - going in for a sort-out. This is a timewarp bass - like new but 23 years old. Case as new with all candy in sealed bag. One of Corona's finest. S/N N8371565 Bought it from Bass Direct a year ago and never gigged by me (likely never gigged at all!) - cost me more than the asking but let's be reasonable here. Decided to stick with my Jazz. Fine 3-slab body (note the sunburst flows over the rear contour). Set up lovely - lowish and fast but not silly-low. Weight 4Kg bang-on Currently fitted new D'Addario rounds so it's quite lively... Pics are this bass when sold to me, from Bass Direct - plus a couple of crappy phone pics just to show a bit of the very posh case and candy, please forgive the quality of those. Sale only, poss trades semi-solid / semi-acoustic fretless unlined... good luck with that then🤣5 points

Local Band Throws Down Gauntlet Ziggy Pip: Fake encores 'bigger threat than climate change and fascism ' Lancaster, England: Indie combo The Lovely Eggs have issued a trenchant manifesto railing against the heinous tradition of fake encores. Lovely Eggs front-man Ziggy Pip made his case in a sometimes impassioned paean to the virtue of authenticity: 'Look at us!' said the indie rock wild man. 'We're iconoclasts and we're smashing the fake encore system and look at us doing it'. Mr Pip added: 'Twenty years from now we'll moaning about the price of mackerel fillets in Tesco and we'll still be using that eye-catching font and doing the 'upper-case in the wrong place' thing so that you'll look at us'. Ziggy Pip's solo album DoN't lOok at tHem look aT mE is drops next month.5 points

I must admit I’ve always like the idea of writing in an encore on the set list but only playing it if the audience ask for it, if they don’t then don’t play it. I think bands should have both the confidence and self awareness to only do encores when it’s clear the audience want them.4 points

That. The crackling is mainly from dust between the pot wiper and track. Turning it fully a few times may clear the dust away. Only if it doesn't should you use a cleaner. It's a good idea to have a regular turning routine with all the pots, especially those that are seldom used, to keep the dust at bay.4 points

It is encouraging to see that hospitalisations and deaths are not rising at the same rate.'" As a MM Sub update, I spoke to him on the phone ( using the cunning trick of a different mobile no! ). and as I thought, a one to one conversation was a lot more productive, we had a fairly friendly chat and he seems a nice enough bloke on the phone at least....the upshot being he reckons he'll refund me £50 ..which as I mentioned earlier was an offer I'd have been happy with in the first place, so a reasonable-ish result.. Pity it all occurred in the first place but, hey ho I've been liking the bass when noodling about with it, I'll need to do a bit of setting up etc, and will give back of the neck a buff with t-cut which should improve it I'd think. Hopefully he'll do my refund promptly without having to be continually nagged..!4 points

Recently acquired this Taiwanese built BB300 on a whim. What really attracted me was the reverse P pickup and the 2 simple 'sucked sweetie' knobs. And the fact it just looks cool 😎 It had 1 wonky tuner and one non original one and it has a new generic but decent replacement bridge. @AndyTravis very helpfully supplied me with 2 proper original Yamaha tuners from his tool box which I have now fitted and work a treat. Now just need to spend some time with it but my BB414 is such an all round monster of an instrument that cost so very little I've decided to put some flats on the BB300 and experiment a bit to try to find a role for it. Apart from the pickup the only other thing I really notice is the neck which is really chunky, far more so than the 414. Time will tell if we bond but you'll hear about it on the BB mega thread first 😁4 points

*** Now SOLD *** Hi Folks Up for sale is my Epiphone Thunderbird + OHSC that I bought from @BreadBinjust before the Covid pandemic hit early last year. I'm looking for £190 or near offer for the bass and it's very nice original hardcase. It's a very lightweight bass, in used 'players condition' and is strung with a set of Detroit flats at the moment and to me anyway, it plays and sounds really nice. It used to belong to @stewblack who said at the time he sold it that it has a bit of rock 'n' roll provenance to it. As Stew put it: "Believe it or not this bass was once owned by Rich from Left Side Brain now better known for his work with Blueneck. " So there you have it! You can find out more in Stew's For Sale ad from 2019... The reason I'm selling this bass isn't that I don't like it; I really do... But, since buying the fabulous Sprackenbacker from @Paul S earlier this year for a late 70s vibe recording project, I'm just not using this bass, which is a real shame because it sounds great. Try out welcome in Potton, Central East Bedfordshire with obligatory tea/biccies on tap.. I'd prefer collection or a meet up on this, but shipping is possible at a push. Any questions, please ask here or send me a PM. Thanks for looking and here are a few photos.. Nik 👍😊3 points

They're probably hurt that when they go off stage no one ever calls for them to come back on so they never get to play their three best songs.3 points

I find "fake encores" tedious. We saw Hayseed Dixie who made it clear that they wouldn't be doing an encore, rather they would play the tunes the punters had paid to hear/ see in the time allocated. Found this refreshing. Get rid!!!3 points

Soft start? Basically you are over thinking all of this. It’s no different to plugging a bass into an amp that’s already on. Turn the bass on before you power the amp. Jeez. It’s like I’ve stumbled onto a forum full of guitarists and drummers.3 points

I bought this awhile ago to be the passive partner to my much loved BB1100s, but after buying my first P Bass from @bigthumb recently my wife has pointed out I might like to downsize my collection somewhat. I believe this is a 1984 version of Tony Kanal’s bass of choice. The serial number is 142050. It’s black (obviously) with gold hardware and it sounds incredible. P bass with a bit of bite from the J pup. Despite the fact the action is set low there’s no buzz I can discern. It travels in a good clean Gator case that’s included in the sale. The bass has been played no doubt about it (I’m not the original owner) and it’s gigging years are reflected in the small dings on the body. The black headstock is actually in good condition as is the neck. The gold (plating?) is worn and tarnished in places (see pix) but everything works as it should. A lovely played in Japanese vintage bass in other words. I can ship this as I have a bass box, but courier not included in the price. If you can make it to South Somerset you’re very welcome to play the bass. Any questions please ask. The only trade I’m looking for is one of the smaller barefaced cabs (SC, Super Midget, one 10 etc) with cash adjustments as necessary. Thanks for looking.3 points

Refined set up for all things noisy/ambient/synthy. Pretty happy with everything overall and it'll certainly do me for the current project... The Vintage Microtubes isn't really my choice of OD sound (a bit too rock/metal) for the stuff I'm doing now, so I might swap that out some something a bit more ‘me’, however it does stack well with the Alpha Omicron. Also, the Xerograph is getting less use now that the Barbenera has taken prime spot for synth swells. It's a nice envelope filter, but it's not my favourite as a stand alone classic filter (that spot goes to the Subdecay Prometheus, which I miss very much!), so may be on the chopping block soon for something else. For those of you interested in the signal chain... Instrument input > Onto Nojs > Darkglass Alpha Omicron > Darkglass Vintage Microtubes > Bananana Effects Matryoshka Bass Synth > Iron Ether Xerograph Deluxe > Nemphasis Steam Bass > EBS DPhaser > Triungolo Labs Barbanera (+ Moog EP-3 Expression Pedal) > Source Audio Nemesis Delay > Neunaber Immerse Reverb > TC Electronic Polytune > Output to amp Everything is mounted to a Pedaltrain Classic 2, cabled with EBS flat patch cables (gold) and powered by a Cioks DC7 power supply (which is easily the best power supply I've ever used).2 points

Many thanks to Mark at Bass Direct for trading it back. Here's all the blurb. A 1990 example of Yamaha TRB5P. The bass features a 34" scale, two band eq and switchable piezo bridge with independent volume pot. The bass comes with a fitted Yamaha hardcase. Maple / Mahogany / Flame maple body, maple / mahogany 5 piece neck, ebony f/b. Controls are volume, blend, bass, treble, piezo cut and a switch to turn piezo on and off. Weight: 10lb 5oz/4.5kg Piezo Pickups in Solid Brass Bridge The piezo pickups used on the TRB models use individual bi-morphous piezo elements for each string, all built into a specially designed bridge which is machined from solid brass. Figured Maple Body with Thru-neck Construction The TRB-series basses feature figured maple bodies that offer the requisite tone as well as outstanding visual appeal. Neck-thru Models Because piezo pickups directly pick up the resonance of the instrument body, the body itself must be made from the finest woods and designed to deliver rich, deep tone. The neck-thru design of these basses affords the best possible foundation for this amazing sound. Construction - Neck-thru-Body Scale Length - 33-7/8" (860mm) Neck - Maple/ Mahogany Fingerboard - Ebony Nut Width - 1-13-16" (46mm) Radius - 23-5/8" (600mm) Frets - 24 Body - Figured Maple/ Rose/ Maple Bridge - BPZ-5 (with Piezo), 19mm string spacing Pickups - Single Coil x 2, Piezo Pickup Pickup Switch - 2 Balancer Controls - 5-Control System Hardware – Gold2 points

In my case (‘60s) at school we got the usual mixture of hymns, classical and popular folk songs, all of which I loved, and which I’m sure influence my tastes to this day. At home? Jazz. My dad was a jazz muso and wouldn’t let anything that wasn’t jazz in the house (apart from our Disney storybook albums); he took his listening so seriously that the family tv was eventually moved into the kitchen so it didn’t interfere. On the radio the stuff that really stuck was The Beatles, the Mamas & The Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, The Doors; my regular stays at my older cousins’ was all Beatles. I probably heard Motown on the radio but it didn’t interest me at all. Then I saw ABBA win Eurovision in ‘74 and fell in lifelong love with them. Finally, at some point in my early/mid teens my older brother came back from Uni with a bunch of Prog albums; I remember walking in from school one day to Shine On You Crazy Diamond and my world changed.2 points
