  1. ON HOLD For sale is a lovely 70's Ovation Magnum 1, in excellent condition. I've wanted one of these for years, having been a fan of Howard Devoto and Magazine in my youth and the brilliant, gurgling basslines of Barry Adamson. I finally found this one not long ago, but quickly came to the realisation that I'm not really Barry Adamson, Jah Wobble, Kim Gordon or Ross Vallory for that matter! So slightly grudgingly, I've decided to part with it. All fully functional (including the string mute) and even the case is in great nick for a 45+ year old bass. Unlike some examples of this bass that can weigh several tons, this one comes in at a very reasonable 4.5kg and sits on the knee or a strap beautifully. £1500 + UK shipping. Sorry, but I'm not looking for any trades.

  3. The information here's not correct. Fujigen Gakki only ever made 'Made In Japan' labelled instruments. When manufacture moved from Fujigen to Dyna Gakki & Tokai Gakki, 'Crafted In Japan' was introduced to differentiate them. Seemingly Fujigen retain exclusivity over the MIJ label and it has appeared on occasional post-'97 Fujigen-made production runs. The 'O' prefix & CIJ indicates it's post-'97 and from either Dyna or Tokai, but I don't think there's any way of distiguishing which of those factories built it. There's no quality differentiation between any of the factories used by Fender Japan.

  4. On a side issue , there is brilliant uptake in voting this month , while I am continually impressed with the entries to this little challenge , I also think that those taking an interest and the time to listen though and cast a vote, also deserve a mention , many thanks 👍

Unfortunately i can't currently post as i don't have anyway of packing it safely so collection only. Thanks price now dropped to £320 NOW SOLD

  8. Yeah, I often think of AC coming home after a gig… ”Hard day at the office dear?” ’not in the least bit taxing love - really chilled, nice and easy’ ”Are we still filthy rich?” ’oh aye, increasingly so my little petal - INCREASINGLY…yurs.’ ”Brandy?” ’Why not…hehehehe’.

  9. So, after 15 months of not playing a gig or anything, I have woken up to a message from my old function band saying they need me to dep on sat night. Think it's a wedding and think its relatively local. Hope the suit still fits after lockdown! Rehearsal tonight - set looks like all stuff I 'used to know' in a previous life, so a run through of 35 odd songs tonight. Keys shoudl be fine and hope the old grey matter kicks in with forms and arrangements, so just need to play some bass today and tomorrow! I literally haven't touched a bass since early December and haven't' played a gig in well over a year. Should be fun and I'm well looking fwd to it...... Only trouble is that I don't have a bass rig anymore, having sold it off due to covid and redundancy! Now need to make some "can I borrow your rig" calls to some pals!!

  26. My (admittedly limited) experience of pub/band singers is the majority fall under the 'tuned shouting' description. And 'tuned' is not necessarily the same as 'in tune'. Too many think that singing is not a serious technical skill and you can just 'sing'. As with any instrument, there will be the odd person who can just wing it and get away with it - but not many. There's a lot of technique to singing properly to protect you voice and to enable you to sing for a protracted period without tiring or injury

  27. Lemon Lard is a revolutionary product and is definitely needed by all players. It will revolutionise mid-gig snacking and fingerboard/string care. If Jaco had it he wouldn't have needed fried chicken. I can guarantee that if you use it you will be playing like Jaco in no time.* *actual results may vary

  28. SOLD - PLS REMOVE Custom bass built for me in late 2018. Aluminium body, top and rear body in carbon. Bolt on, 24 frets, custom radius 20 "(flat keyboard Ibanez / Yamaha mode), 18 mm string space at the bridge, 44.5 mm nut width, Hipshot Ultralight tuners. Alusonic Hybrid Alnico5/Neodymium MM + J pickup, 3-way selector for the bridge pickup, Ad Electronics Custom preamp with volume, blend, bass, mid and treble. Weight 3.9 kg. The changes to the basic version are: - flatter radius. - block inlays instead of simple dots. - 3-way preamp instead of 2. - 3-way selector instead of 5, which acts only on the bridge pickup in series / parallel / single coil mode. - blend on the preamp instead of the 5 pre-selected combinations. Instrument like new, with upgraded features compared to already excellent basic specifications. The reason for the sale is the fact that actually I do not play and I do not know when I will start playing again. I don't sell for economic needs, so I sell within a minimum margin that I reserve for each negotiation. Possible exchanges, but i prefer the sale, only on instruments such as Furlanetto fretboard not maple, or Status and similar. More info on www.alusonic.com

  31. He was known to be fond of God's own county. Apparently, his party trick was to play with a ferret down his trousers. You can see evidence of it on the live clip of him playing What's Going On with Marvin Gaye. Note the way he keeps shifting from side to side in his seat as the little fella burrows about in his trollies.

  34. I bought this phenomenal little thing last year for £850, its litterally been used for only 4 rehearsals 😒. Ive tried many different micro heads before and felt the "there's something missing" or "it doesnt have heft at volume" "compress's my tone too much" type thing, but this new generation has converted me fully knowing it can be the same as full fat heads. .oodles of punch and feel with this thing, it can get stupid loud if needed without loosing any good stuff. easily one of the best amps ive ever used..... So why sell it?? As totally fickle as it sounds my band is a low tuned Doom/slude type of affair and the look of a little thing on top of my big cabs dont do it 🤦‍♂️. So if anyone fancies some sort of trade for it with a valvehead or big hybrid/solid state. Comes with a perfect ffiting skb case. Based in Torbay (south Devon) but happy to do a mid way meet (with a video to all is working as should prior) Most things considered, Ampeg, Ebs, marshall, messa.... No ashdowns (unless valve) could never gel with them 🤷‍♂️ https://www.gallien-krueger.com/legacy-heads Sounds just like these clips.. . Beautiful! https://youtu.be/eFVYUA7iiew

  36. Had the first lesson. He had me practicing holding all my fingers down instead of how I was doing it and lifting my index finger high of the fretboard and did a few finger stretching scales. I've booked in for an hour next week so hoping things will start to show improvement. Also, as something to sort of aim towards her asked what song I was interested in learning first. I wasn't expecting that so panicked a bit (🙄😂) and said "Holiday in Cambodia". He laughed and said"Brilliant, ok, that's the first one we'll do".

  39. To be honest, much as I like valve amps, I find that sometimes an emulation of a full valve amp (i.e. capturing preamp and power tube overdrive) will deliver a more authentic 'all valve' sound than placing a single 12AX7 valve into the preamp circuit and labelling it as 'all tube drive circuit'. It really depends on how good the overall circuit is, rather than whether it is a real valve of not. Laney have been running their Nexus Tube and Fet range for years. So I have no issues with them on trying something new here with class D technology.

  40. I’m exactly the same. Les Pauls are my guitars of choice. With bass, most of my boutiques/custom basses had humbuckers of some description and they never really sounded completely right to me. I know there are also other factors but I’ve definitely come to the conclusion that I prefer single coils in a bass. It was only a few years back when playing an old ‘80s Warwick Thumb next to an old Sei I had that the penny dropped. I will say my particular 4004 sounded pretty clear, open and bright, albeit not quite as bright as my 4001s.

  42. I've adored Shudder To Think for 25 years. This footage is an unedited thing from MTVs 120 Minutes. I just adore the silence and then the power. This is arguably the best line up, Nathan Larson on guitar, Adam Wade on drums. Stuart Hill is a highly underrated bassist. You're going to either love or hate Craig Wedren's falsetto vocals; there's no median. This clip is 28 minutes of joy for me...

  43. Just joined the club! Spend a good few hours trying many basses more than 10 (some more than double the price) two others came close another Sandberg and a dingwall superJ this bass just felt right and sounded great. Deal was done and it's now at home with me and will be my main gigging once we are up and running again.
