Here we have what is alleged one of two only slab body Pre EB Sabre, re-built to Pre EB specs. Body, bridge, loaded control plate, string tree, tuners, battery cover, neck plate, strap buttons are all original. Refinished in the U.S.A. by Pat Wilkins, neck is a beautiful birds eye late 80s EBMM as are the sting mutes, pick guard is an aftermarket, pickups and pickup covers all hand built by the wonderful Veijo Rautia, assembled in Dublin by luthier Tony Thompson. Body has one small blemish on the horn (was that way when I bought it). Located in Ireland, shipping to be arranged by the buyer, I have all the necessary boxes and packaging material, it will be sold with the pretty beat up case as seen. Asking Price £1,550 within the U.K. or €1,800.00 within Europe4 points

Thought that those of you of a slappy persuasion might be interested in this - pictured at Camp Bestival yesterday. Not sure if this is a permanent switch back to the Jaydees, but it's good to see it get an airing...:)4 points

At auction I suspect McCartney's Hofner would attract the highest bids. Estimates vary from £3,000,000 to £6,000,000. After all, Ringo's Ludwig drum kit fetched £2,000,000.4 points

I couldn't find this thread when I started gigging again, glad it's resurfaced. Played last night at a small local pub with a band I haven't played with for about 3 years. Good to see them again and play some songs I thought I'd forgotten but my fingers seemed to remember! That was my seventh gig this side of the Covid restrictions. Going along to a blues jam this afternoon, next gig is my daughter's wedding in a week's time.4 points

Well I'm back on the horse. We did our first gig yesterday afternoon for a local dog rescue charity. It was, in fact our first ever with my new, all original material band. It was baking hot at about 35°c in the shade, so bloody hard work, but otherwise a nice chilled out afternoon. There were only about 40 people there, but the original material seemed to go down well, especially amongst the local Bulgarian population who have a really great enthusiasm and thirst for live music. Even if they don't always understand the lyrics 😆. We were also approached by another local band who, like us have about an hour's worth of original material, with a view to doing something together. So there could well be a few more gigs on the horizon.4 points

This is my Yamaha BB735a, bought from bass direct around Christmas last year and played about half a dozen times at home - when I was taking these pics I realised I hadn’t taken the plastic controls sheet off it as it has sat for so long in the case now. Comes with a pretty neat Yamaha gig bag. No issues or drama, just a seriously good instrument which feels very like the BB1025x I once owned - real solid build quality. Im playing four string at the minute 99% of the time and I’m gassing for a Steve Harris sig or a USA fender P; so this is sitting idle.3 points

Selling my very unique Alleva Coppolo LG5 Custom. It is like new (besides one small chipped out ding mentioned below) and has the following spec: Spalted Alder Body - very lightweight, yet quite responsive, this is Jimmys most expensive body wood choice Amberburst Finish - looks less orange than in the pics Very nice Macassar Ebony board with binding MOP dots 34" 19mm spacing at bridge Jimmys proprietary pickups and electronics, pickups in 60s positions Built 2019, Weighs 3,9 kg (!) I bought it in new condition, but just today I managed to chip out a small piece of finish at the back of the neck joint - I will add a picture later. Besides that the bass is absolutely like new - even the transparent foil is still on the back cover plate. The sound is typical Alleva-like, so it tends towards the classical early Fender timbre - although the Ebony board adds some snap and opens the upper registers - if desired. I personally prefer the vintage models, but for players with a slightly more flexible and modern demand this Alleva would be a great find. Asking 4.900 EUR (4500 GBP) plus shipping, trade value is 5.400 EUR. Trades considered: Alleva Coppolo LM5/LM4, Ken Smith BSR Elite, Fenders until 1973, F Basses with nice tops, Fodera Elite 34" or less, LeFay Remigton Steele 6, Mattisson. .3 points

Used the GR cab in anger for the first time today, rehearsing with a new band. As my Orange Terror hasn't arrived, I used my ancient (~1983) 150W Laney Probass. It has very complex sound shaping, I just lifted the low end very slightly and a small low-Q boost on the parametric at 400Hz. In the past, this amp has never had any particularly great praise, but today the guys couldn't stop praising the sound I was getting. Full, rich, lows, harmonics bell-like, great clarity for sounds up at the dusty end. I am expecting it to sound utterly mindblowing with the Bass Terror.3 points

Here’s a thing. My Eldest Daughter turned 11 yesterday. I joined Basschat in the early hours of 1st August 2009, as I couldn’t sleep and was absolutely having a rabbit in headlights Moment at the prospect of being a dad. So...what does 11 years look like... I was annoyed yesterday - due to politics, it was the first time I’ve not had a photograph of her on her birthday taken by me. Ella’s 2nd Birthday was the first one I did solo; the band I was in threw her a party for that one 🤣 Shame I haven’t got photographs of 11 years worth of bass sales and purchases on basschat. I don’t think the servers could handle the upload. Anyhow...happy 11th Basschativersary to me.3 points

My 4X10 has done a few miles. The paint on the grill had been scratched a bit and was a bit flaky showing rusty brown metal underneath. I'm absolutely not qualified to dish out DIY advice, but it turns out it is the easiest job in the world to take off the grill, tape over the badge, rub with fine wire wool and spray on a couple of coats of black metal spray paint from Screwfix. Grill has come up good as new. Used the cab on a gig last night and the Drummer commented how “good it sounded - looks like an expensive bit of kit”!3 points

For those hunting down a case for the Stomp, I've picked this up off amazon for £11.99 and it's perfect. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07T8FCL91/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's obviously quite lightweight but more than adequate to ensure the unit doesn't get knocked about when popped into the front pocket of my bass case along with loose cables and all the other random bits and bobs. Enough space for the stomp, power supply, and a few other bits and bobs.3 points

I had a good gig on Friday night at camp bestival. First gig for the band since around March 2020. Lots in for late this year into 2022. Felt great to get back on stage after so long.3 points

The Kickass saddles aren't painted a brass colour, they are brass. They also allow for string spacing adjustments, which the Gotoh doesn't. To me that's worth the $15. I have Kickass and Gotoh bridges on basses and they both do the job well.3 points

Mrs T met nickleback. Sat and had lunch with them. I can’t remember how or why this happened, but it’s while she was at Edge Hill university. She just randomly came out with this story one night when we were talking about bands we automatically skipped (hers was the Smiths…) she said they were really nice blokes. one of the Rare occasions when you have no response. - just checked this with her now to check it wasn’t a brain fart. ”there was a Canadian guy on our teacher training course called Dave who was a bit older than us, a bit of a loner. We were talking about poetry and I said I’d written some pieces. He said he was going to meet some friends who were over from Canada. So as I wanted breakfast, we drove to Ormskirk and had a full English breakfast with his friends - are there 2 brothers in Nickleback? It was them… we had a full English and spoke about poetry…”3 points

Thank you for the great advice, everyone. I think ultimately the solution is me accepting the things I'll lose, not caring as much about it and embracing the things I'll gain in terms both physical and mental space and hopefully concentrating less on fiddling about with the instruments and more on actual music. I will indeed: -Loan out the custom five string indefinitely to a guitarist in one of my bands. He'll definitely use it to record some low end ideas and I should've thought of it sooner. -Sell the Fender. Just like with my ex Gibson Thunderbird, it's a great bass but it's not unique and I could theoretically buy another one like it if for any reason if I really wanted to. As much as I'd love to have only one bass I'll keep the Limelight Jazz with rounds and the P (which is actually a Limelight PJ) with flats. And then probably buy more Limelights, lol3 points

This thread is like a time capsule, it stopped when Covid hit, so I thought well, I would continue the other side (hopefully). Yesterday, after much faffing, we had our first gig since probably the one reported on here in march 2020. It was for a family that just take a complete campsite over to have a birthday party. Turned up to setup expecting like what we had a few years ago, a makeshift stage at the bottom of the field, but no, it was a full marque with a wooden stage part, very impressed. 6-9 with a 20 minute break. We had rehearsed enough songs for 3 hours. Seemed a bit stiff at the start and we made a few mistakes here and there, but the crowd enjoyed it and I really enjoyed it after a couple of songs trying to get relaxed. The guitarist said it was the best bass tone I have had. Same 2 TC 1x12 speakers but the ashdown ABM600 and Ibanez EHB1505ms doing their first gig (and the squier mustang for a few songs). Also I used the SY-1 more than I have before (including an impromptu happy birthday on holiday camp organ sound!). It has to be said the band sound was good overall - I also used a behringer sub I got as a b-stock and that really helps with the drums. Suffice to say we ran out of songs as the songs are faster gigging than practicing and had to rapidly search our lists to remember songs we hadn't played for the year, and my fingers aren't going to be doing anything today - its not the same gigging as practicing is it! Really happy though, can't wait for the next one.3 points

Atelier Z short-scale Kenken signature model (that's the signature on the headstock). It was hand built in Japan, has a 30" scale, a lovely maple neck and is extremely light weight at 3kg/6.6lb. It has active EMG pickups/pots, Gotoh hardware, and has recently been setup with new D'Addario strings. It sounds awesome.3 points

And here’s the finished thing…. New brown tort guard. I love it! Needs a new pickup selector tip though…. Forgot about that! 😁3 points

Hi guys, this is the complete sound test of the new Squier Precision Affinity model 2021 born from the total restyling made by Squier for its affinity series. The sound test of the instrument was performed with its factory strings and without the use of effects or equalization. Recording was done using a Tascam Pocketstudio DP-006 digital recorder https://youtu.be/ePVtDtfrrxM2 points

I followed your piece of advice. It worked perfectly. Here's is a pìc of my RM500 paired with the RM112 I used yesterday. I am considering getting another RM112, but this one is already really loud. Besides, I also have an old RM210 (the first generation) and I'm also happy with it, so I'm not sure about anopther one.2 points

Had a rehearsal last weekend. I’m on keys these days. Bass player has been struggling with a certain run. Band were really pleased he finally got it consistently right. When they congratulated him he piped up that he had no idea what they were talking about, as he stopped trying to play it so didn’t play anything. All eyes looked at me…….. 😎2 points

I've gone through this cycle far too many times, the psychological weight of having more basses than you can 'justify' can become overwhelming, but realistically, unless you really need the money or the space, then just put a few out of sight and forget they're there for a year or two. It'll save you money in the long run - no need to ask I know that! For me, the main pressure is space, I have enough wall hanging for 6 basses, but currently have 7, so plan to sell 2 I don't use and buy another Jazz Bass that I will. The pressure to keep the numbers down comes entirely from myself, my wife always tries to talk me out of selling any of them. Unlike some people, she welcomes new basses and I have to sneak older ones out of the house if they are leaving the family!2 points

Wot a steaming pile of bollox. FOH PA's don't reach down to 30hz except in exceptional circumstances. For the same reason Trace Elliot put a red button on the 30hz slider. When a cab is advertised with a -10dB response at 28hz that means you aren't going to hear any 30hz at all. To boost the EQ up to where you could hear 30hz would take a buttload of power that would destroy the speakers. Hoorah for highpass filters that end the nonsense and leave a nice FAT 60hz intact that along with the higher harmonic series in the low B give the sensation it is all there when it ain't.2 points

I have a chrome version of the Gotoh bridge on one of my basses and it’s a perfectly good quality piece of kit, as are the machine heads I have on another bass. In both cases better than the Fender equivalents they replace.2 points

Depends how big the collection is... Seriously, if there are no financial imperatives at work, what's the problem? I've been pretty much retired for a some years now, but feel no need to part with any of my instruments just yet.2 points

If i've picked you up right. You love P bass so keep that one. You love the Limelight so keep that one However you have 5er Jazz for Dep work so makes sense to keep that. I'd sell the other Jazz bass. Having 3 basses that are workable isnt too bad IMO. Put them in cases and hide them under the bed if space is an issue. Dave2 points
