  1. My TC Signature StingRay arrived this afternoon. I must say I’m really very pleased with it. It has passive electronics (series; parallel; single coil pick up settings. Boost on the volume control (or cut if you use it that way round), and passive tone control. It weighs around 8 lbs, has a nicely figured two piece swamp ash body, roasted maple neck with a very dark ebony board. All the hardware is black, including the hardened steel strings through bridge with mute system. The sound through my Mark Bass LM3 and 2 x 10 Traveller is great - I think I prefer the series with the tone control around centre. It has a perfect Musicman sound, looks, feels and plays excellently - the neck is, as always with roasted maple and the Musicman oil and wax finish, incredibly slick!! Some photos……

  3. I’ve been meaning to try one of these for a while now, so after a 3 hour round trip yesterday I picked up a near mint one, it’s now got Labella double ball end flats on ,and a nice low action, in active mode it really drops some bass and has a great sound, it’s a lot more comfortable than I thought it would be , and I really like the neck and the headless top , overall I’m loving it 😊

  5. For sale ONLY, this beautiful bass is a very rare beast. Dating from the mid 80's - it's an "A" series MIJ Squier, intended for the Japan market only, rare in 32" scale, rarer still in this unusual finish. The body is scaled down in size, and in proportion to the neck. So it's light (from memory, around 3.5kg). The colour is something else. It's a dark green metallic finish, and the metallic components have a dichroic effect - this means the colour changes depending on the lighting & viewpoint. Sometimes it's dark green, sometimes purple, or blue/purple, & sometimes black. The bass is a typical high quality Fender Japan instrument. It sounds just like a P as you'd expect, and the neck is slender with a lovely "feel" to it. The only downside... There is a small "split" in the wood, by the E string tuner. It's a few mm long, it's not deep - it looks like a previous owner overtightened one of the screws. I got Cardiff luthier Dave Dearnaley to check it out - he carefully cleaned out the split and put some glue into it. He told me it's a very strong glue he uses for his custom guitar builds and DB & violin neck repairs. I have reflected this repair in the asking price. The body work / finish is excellent, especially given its age. There's hardly a mark on it. The scratchplate has slightly yellowed. I will include a nicely padded gigbag. Currently strung with rounds (Dunlop, I think). NO TRADES please - I need to thin the herd. Collection only, from Cardiff - I prefer not to post such a lovely bass. (But I may be able to meet you somewhere convenient. I have a decent battery powered amp.)

  6. Not so. It looks like a normal distribution, otherwise known as a bell curve. If that's true, when you get to the top rank you are officially a bell end?

  8. Much as I love the 'Basses on the Settee' topic, it's not really the best way to show off most basses 🙂 During the heatwave (remember when it wasn't raining?) an entire wall I'd covered with two layers of lining paper peeled off down to te dado rail, held on only by the guitar hangers. Well, I realised if I put a hanger back up before redecorating, I had a lovely arty but neutral background to photograph some basses. So here are seven of my babies (not including headless or my too-long acoustic), in order of approximate age: Mid-70s Maya Fretless (MIJ): 1985 Fender Performer (MIJ): Circa 1985 Westone Thunder 1 (MIJ): 2002 Squier Jazz Bass (Indonesia): 2018/9 Squier Jaguar Short Scale (Indonesia): 2019 Fender Flea Signature Jazz (Reliced '63, Mexico): Deathburger (from Harley Benton Kit, only body, neck and part of loom original, light relic) 2020, (UK):

  10. Tomorrow I'll be playing my first gig since November 2019 .... it's at a small festival in Sussex. I feel a strange mixture of excitement and disbelief. Hopefully the first of many more to come.

  11. Morning/Afternoon, This is strictly a feeler at the moment, and is only on the chopping block as I need to raise some funds. This is an absolutely magic little Bass, it's a mere 23.5" scale but it plays and sounds like a full sized Bass, I've used this at practice and at a gig and it sounds absolutely massive, everyone was just astounded by what this little thing can do! If you don't know about Bee Basses, then let me tell you they are ridiculously good. Binky, my infamous 10 string bass, is a Bee Bass and I commissioned that 16 or so years ago after having talked with some very well know bassists about who can build the bass I had in my head, and Fred Bolton of Bee Basses delivered in spades and Binky was born! This little dude is built by the same man that built Binky, and albeit much MUCH smaller than Binky, it still has the same outstanding build quality and playability that Binky has. I believe the body is Ash with a flamed walnut top with matching headstock cap, a lightly flamed maple fretboard and maple neck. It's a single passive pickup with tone and volume. The neck attachment is a 6 bolt design with metal ferrules and metal threads in the neck and was built to be designed for the neck to be removed regularly for backpack travel. The action is very low and the strings are custom Newtone strings. It's a marvellous Bass, a truly huge sound in a tiny package. A full custom build in micro form that delivers everything a bass should while being super light and very portable. Ideally collection from Wickford, Essex, but I can probably post if needed!

  15. For small up and coming UK bands, gigging around Europe was just an extension of gigging in the UK, it was the same circuit. It literally meant they were gigging all the time. I know of several who would pack their gear in a van (just like the old days) and gig small venues in France, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium for several months. They'd even just pop back to the UK to do a week of gigs or a festival and then back across the channel. Being able to do that was like US bands who are able to just gig around the US. But that's all gone now. Visas, carnets etc, all extra cost that will make it totally unworkable for these bands to do what they were doing. Also having all those extra venues and audiences in throughout the EU made their band etc viable full stop. For the bands I'm talking about they don't have gear in other countries or are able to hire gear. Similar bands from the US with similar fan bases, ie. small, just don't tour or gig in the UK. It's too expensive. It's the same reason why the bands from the UK who'd easily gig a lot throughout the EU don't gig in the US.

  16. Good lord, this was... well, crap. In the words of a mate of mine: "The vocals ruin what could have been just a really bad song" And what the hell is up with that ambient bridge that just suddenly fades in?

  17. In 31yrs of playing original band stuff, I'm yet to fail an audition. Certainly get in the right area with the part, as a minimum capture the essence of what was originally played. But often overlooked is showing up on time, being amenable, seeming keen and just generally coming across like someone they'd want to be in a band with - it all really goes a long way. Good luck with the audition.

  18. Sadly this Government does not value culture in any form, even cutting the funding to Arts based courses at Universities. Wonder what will happen when the Bullingdon Club runs out of strippers, maybe use pigs ( hang on , that's already been tried)? IBTL

  21. 92 Warwick Thumb Bass. I guess this doesn’t need too much of an introduction, you may already know how awesome these are, but if not please feel free to ask anything. The bass is in great condition overall, but showing wear to the bridge pick-up case, where the thumb has left it’s mark and just above the pick-up. Selling simply because I have stuck with my Marcus 5 string for the majority of gigs as well as my upright . I’m based in the Isle of Man and willing to ship the bass anywhere in the U.K. . Please feel free to ask away... ** Attempted to sell in 2019 so using the same ad to have another go in July 21** Please do shout if any more pics are required, I could even send the odd video of it in use if required. ***Polite notice, thanks for all the enquires - The price is not negotiable, But does include shipping to the U.K.*** Many thanks Alan

  25. NBD Spector Legend 4 Neck Thru in Black Cherry. So I was very pleased with my recent purchase of my Spector Legend Classic 5 that I purchased a Spector Legend 4 Neck Thru in Black Cherry from the Jimmy Egypt site. It was one of the last basses of the previous Legend 4 NT range, it has Aguilar DCB G3 Pups and Aguilar OBP-2 pre. I searched for the older version because the latest Legend 4 NT is a P/J and as I already own a couple of P/J basses so I wanted soap bar Pups for a change. The bass arrived before 11.00 am the next after purchase and I am so pleased with bass the finish is superb the neck is slim and fast with a great range of tones on offer. Great bass. The really good news is that Mrs DaBass was out down the village when DHL delivered the bass, so it's currently hiding behind the door in my Study/music room. if she happens to notice a shinny bass on the stand with the others I will use my normal stock response of " I have had that for ages!! you don't pay much attention to my hobby". Happy Days!!

  28. We're playing our second wedding gig, since restrictions lifted, tomorrow in Windsor. One of the singers is currently on holiday in Donegal so he's taking two flights back to get to the gig and will then fly back on Sunday. He's just arrived at Dublin airport and next flight is at 4 30pm this afternoon. Talk about commitment!!!

  30. I have to admit to being a bit of a snob when it comes to GnR. I saw the original (and to my mind best) lineup at Donnington and any line up without Izzy isn't the real deal for me. It's a little known fact that Izzy was one of the major songwriters in that band and I have all of his solo albums. Also I loved Velvet Revolver and saw them a few times. Fair enough death kind of puts an end to any reunion plans in that direction but I just feel that this current line up is for making money. Ive read all of their books and they swore they wouldn't get back together. I know all artists are in this to make money but they were doing ok without this flogged to death line up. I remain unconvinced.

  35. Its not about better, or faster or more chops. Its about right guys in the right band at the right time. Charlie's drumming is an intrinsic part of the Stones songs and style, with a different drummer those recorded tracks would have been very different. Its about feel and beat placement and micro timing, not chops or technique.

  36. GR AT Carbon 110 (4Ohms) - Ordered early last month from Bass Direct, arrived today! Although I use Mesa Subway 210's and Mesa heads, with lots of smaller jazz (Double Bass) and small ensemble work around the corner I felt the need for a very portable and light 1x10. Having read Jay's thread (@JayCarterMusic) and also hearing directly about his further experience of these new GR carbon cabs (thanks Jay) I sold some under-used pedals and some other equipment to fund this purchase. Although I won't use this too much for electric bass, I wanted to be able to fly with it as I have a couple of wedding gigs in Europe next year and the year after too, hence ordering a 4ohm version to ensure I can use as a standalone cab (I will continue to use my Mesa rigs for electric / larger gigs, festivals etc). From the few hours I have had with the cab today, it sounds tight but warm with double bass and it certainly can handle a low B string (rear port seems to help project well). I am really happy and my first impressions are great, but I will post more once I've gigged this a few times. I've included a few pics for ref. 1) Cab 2) Cab with my back-up Quilter head 3) Cab with my Mesa head (perfect width BTW) 4) Cab with my angled wedges normal used with my Mesa cabs

  37. Lovely bass. From the Bacchus 'cheap' line but still a mighty fine bass. Only selling because I'm, putting my money towards something different. This comes with a lovely gig bag and pick up cover. The neck pickup is epoxy resin filled, however this is entirely reversible by just buying a £3 pickup cover. Cant see any major dents but of course has the normal age related marks. The bridge pickup cover is a replacement and not a direct match to the neck pickup cover, only willing to offer as collection, however happy to meet up an hour or so from central Scotland.
