I have played many, many nice basses. I have owned many nice basses. I once bought a 6 string version of this. It was sublime. But it made my head go mushy. I sold it. However, I did promise myself to buy a 5 string when one appeared. Between this appearing and selling the original 6, another 6 appeared. I was ashamed that I did not actually practice on the original 6 so bought the 2nd 6. The original 6 was set up by Overwater. It was sublime. I had the 2nd 6 set up locally and it was just not right. I wanted to send it to OW but Covid, so I gave up on it. Then this appeared. I had it. It did all I expected it to. If it was made in the US we would be laying eggs with excitement about them. Then OW got in touch with me and said they would take my 2nd 6 in and make it lush. Change preamp to OW instead of what someone had put in, new pickups (one was only operating half a coil - or something technical) , set up bottom F# to G. Yummy. I am going to practice and make it work. This leaves me with 2 OW monster basses. This is a definitive 1st world problem. If this was the only OW I had I would keep it. A multi laminate, through neck 36" scale makes B strings do delicious things. However, I do not need 2 of them. And lockdown has increased my stock of basses and something has to give. It is whisper quiet. Wenge facings (I think). It sounds just right. There are a few dings on it (as shown). But it is a BEAST. The price is firm and includes shipping in a HSC (not original - Yamaha as it happens). Price includes shipping. No trades, no offers. But thanks for thinking about them. Worth it, you know you are.6 points

Looking to sell my Music Man StingRay. I've had this bass for at least 10 years - I actually bought it from a fellow BassChat contact when I was still in a band back in the day. But, now I've got a family it's barely being used so it's time to finally part ways with it. It's done hundreds of gigs and of the 20 or so guitars I've had over the years this has by far been the best. Price: £900, feel free to shoot me an offer if you're interested. I'm not interested in trades. Happy to answer any questions or send more pictures if you're looking for something specific. Ideally this would be a collection job, or I'm happy to drive up to an hour to meet and hand over with the buyer. I'm in Country Durham, near J63 A1M.5 points

The whole point of punk was that it supposedly ripped up the rules. It's surprising how many rules there are about who is punk, how you have to look, how you have to sound, how you have to dress etc! In the 90s I was in a punky band and the producer suggested I do some slap bass in the chorus of a song. I tried it and it worked a treat. Coming from a punk rock background, I went on to play 15yrs on the Americana / Country circuit. I think this is far more punk than spending 35yrs trying to sound like GBH.5 points

After around 3 decades of being in the care of a good friend of mine, I recently got my original ‘77 precision back and it’s just come back from the luthier reunited with its original neck, a new nut and nicely set up. It was originally a maple fretboard which was replaced with fretless ebony board by the Kincade Brothers In the early eighties.4 points

My toys on the pedalboard The Tech21 midi with the HX Stomp is fantastic. I’m using the midi for change the presets and the 3 switch’s on the Stomp for snapshot’s to change in each preset. The possibilities are endless. The Cali76 is before the Stomp, and the ADAM is in the Fx Loop.4 points

I've had it for something like a decade. Mind you, I was always very protective about my hearing, using plugs during gigs, or over ear muffs when doing DIY and things like that. For me it started once during the exams, I had really bad ringing in my ears. Went to a specialist, hearing range etc was perfect, apparently it was due to stress and lack of sleep. And indeed, when the stress levels were reduced, so was the ringing. This went on for a year or 4, the ringing would come back during times of stress (exams, mostly), and would vanish again. During that 4th year, one night I was struggling to sleep, the ringing started again... And never went away after that. It was really weird since I hadn't gone to any particular loud event, or wasn't exposed to any loud noises... From time to time I really hate it, but most of the time, I'm used to it... It's like a part of you that you learn to live with, or that you HAVE to learn to live with. So good luck and take care of your ears and yourself4 points

Had it for 18 years, caused by a gig I was recording and unusually I'd left my ear plugs at home - I'd always been especially careful about protecting my hearing since being a teenager in the late 90's. The gig was painfully loud and the next day I woke up with bad ringing in my ears. It has never stopped. I have done everything I can to prevent it getting worse. Moulded ear plugs. Changing the type music I was involved with. Avoiding loud environments. minimising headphone usage. Double protection (plugs and overear defenders) for the few times I'm using power tools in my dayjob. I've also found diet can have a big effect on the level of my tinnitus. For example it's been pretty bad recently, but I have been eating badly to fit around jobs. I know from when this has happened before drinking a lot of water, less booze and upping vegetables has a big effect on bringing the level down over a few weeks. A diet rich in anti inflammatory vegetables can work well in helping with tinnitus - reducing the intake of deadly nightshade family of plants and increasing ginger and turmeric for example. One the trickiest side effects of tinnitus for me has been the cognitive/aural processing. In normal hearing our brains do a lot of filtering to diminish the importance of background sounds when we're concentrating on something or someone. The tinnitus has thrown this out for me to the point where backgroud sounds feel deafening, yet I can't "hear" (process) the person talking next to me. Good luck. Being able to talk/write about it is a great help in dealing with it and avenues like this site can be vital.4 points

Curiosity got the better of me. we’re up in Edinburgh for the fringe so I took couple of hours out to head over to Guitarguitar in Glasgow. I tried a JJ metro express 5, one of the newer batch, and immediately loved it. Great set up out of the box, nice finish, Ok the chrome was that very shiny Far Eastern finish but frets, neck, controls etc were fine. It had a really nice even tone with a great B string balance. I really like the Sadowsky preamp tone. I was lucky enough to try it through a Markbass CMD102p, so same amp as mine however one hiccup: yep those noisy pickups! As soon as you move the balance knob either way off the centre detent it gets a bit noisy. I’m not sure that it’s a deal breaker for me though as I really like everything else on this bass. Bearing in mind that I was very happy to use it centred, I don’t think I’ve ever moved the one on my Peavey TL5 off centre, and even maybe later fitting a set of noiseless DiMarzios, about £130, would still make this an good bass for the money ? So do I pull the trigger ? Help I don’t know what to do! Incidentally Kyle at Guitarguitar was really helpful and knowledgeable and pointed out that they had sent most of the first batch back and that the newer ones are much better and more consistent.4 points

**NOW SOLD** Description Updated to reflect the info provided by helpful BCers below: Up for sale is this beautiful Tune Bass Maniac. This bass was built in 1996 in Kore and is in amazing condition for a 25 year old instrument. If you are looking at this ad you probably already know of the awesome reputation these basses have - you wont do better at this price point, or probably double this amount! It is all original except for the nut - I believe the original nut was also brass but this has been improved to a Warwick brass Just-A-Nut I which is fully adjustable for the best possible setup and playability. The bass has received a complete pro setup and has been thoroughly cleaned: frets polished, fretboard cleaned and oiled and it has brand new Warwick strings fitted. It plays like a dream with a medium-low action, perfect balance, and incredibly light weight of 3.1kg(6.8lbs). It also benefits from a 34" scale length. All of the electronics function perfectly, as does the truss rod and the rest of the hardware. The electronics active(with no passive option) and the controls are volume, pickup blend, treble(boost/cut) and bass(boost/cut) - there is also a trim pot in the control cavity which I believe sets the midrange output. Please note that the finish of the bass changes depending on the light - if you see the last few photos I have used the flash to show this off. Worldwide shipping available - the bass will be shipped in a simple but functional hardcase with additional packaging internally. To save money on shipping costs, I can also remove the neck and carefully pack the body and neck and ship them within a box. If you have any questions please let me know.3 points

Very clean Darkglass Alpha/Omega 900w head and footswitch. I bought this about 18 months ago, it's been out of the house once since purchase (who knew what was coming?). It goes very loud, I rehearsed with it in the big room at Brighton Electric into an Ampeg 8x10 and never took it up beyond 35-40%. If you want to make me a sensible offer, then feel free to do so. I'm based in Crowthorne, Berkshire (near Reading) - collection welcome, happy to ship registered/insured at purchaser's cost. Full specs here: Alpha·Omega 900 – Darkglass Electronics3 points

Get ACS plugs. Get coloured ones. They are easier to find when you drop them. Get them on strings so you will drop them less. Coloured ones do not show ear wax like the clear ones do. When you get the moulds done ask for the things which wedge your mouth open. You get a better seal. My tinnitus rolled into permanence in a quiet harp, piano and EUB rehearsal You will get used to it. Regret is useless, it will not change anything. Do everything possible to make sure it does not get worse. But if you are reading this, do not have tinnitus, are in loud situations, and do not have earplugs I do not understand your behaviour. Obv this is for the casual reader, not the OP.3 points

Intermittent ringing is already tinnitus... As everyone said, you now need to protect carefully your hearing in all situations including your noisy work. Go to a specialist and get some professional earplugs made to measure : it's maybe expensive, but you can seriously slow down the tinnitus. Another thing you need to know is that tinnitus is also linked to cervical vertebrae crispation, so go to a qualified osteopath to release these tensions. It will help a lot, but you'll have to live with. And run away from sub basses heavy sounds.3 points

I’ve never really been sure exactly what the definition of punk is. I seem to recall that at the time it was a pretty big brush and a lot of bands ended up being tarred with it by their management and record labels, whether they wanted to be or not. I’m sure that some learned musical historian* will have a musical definition of punk (and the distinction between punk in the USA and punk here) but as far as I could tell at the time, punk’s defining characteristic was an attitude. And, in some cases, a blessed brevity. Once the music press got hold of the phenomenon and hyped it up, every new band had to be “punk” in some way or other if they wanted to get a record deal or get decent reviews in the NME or MM. So were the Rats punk? To a die-hard punk fan, probably not. To a record company exec or a band’s manager trying to promote their product, probably yes. Did punk preclude the use of slap bass (or indeed any kind of virtuoso ability on an instrument)? No, but it generally hid it well behind that all-important attitude. *Or one of those cheap-to-make Channel 5 talking heads programs that trots out the usual suspects to pontificate on the Top 50 Punk Records or some such.3 points

I built a 10ins combo cab with the speaker cab dimensions were similar to your target sizes. I used a Celestion neo 10" 300w 8ohm driver with no tweeter and tuned the cab to 50Hz. It sounds really good and compares quite favourably to my BF One10 which I subsequently sold. The combo cab had less coloration than the BF One10 but could match that Old School tone with some amp EQ settings. I think my contribution is around page 6 or 7 of the thread. I have previously used Beyma 12s in two Basschat builds I am sure those 10s you have will turn out fine. Good luck with your build.3 points

First gig since March 2020 with the UFO tribute band, ironically on Pete Way`s birthday at Trillians in Newcastle, striped trousers were in order although they were a bit tighter than 17 months ago for some reason, nailed it and had a great night, not sure what the rest of the year has to offer.3 points

My two compact PBs, main board and 'psycho synth' smaller board. Both powered by HB IsoPro PSUs (a 5 and a 12) with a Thumpinator hpf also sitting under the larger board. Currently just using one of the Zoom B1-4s for gigging, which provides me with tuner, BK7 dirt, chorus, tape echo and Z-Synth in one very handy 'micro board' which can easily slip into my gig bag.3 points

Played what was probably the gig of a lifetime last night - at my daughter's wedding. They held their reception in a field, with camping for those who wanted to, a leave main marquee (which is where we played) and assorted games and things to do - like a small private festival, with only one band. We played two hours of mostly blues-based material as a three piece, with my good friend Al Stroud on guitar and vocals, his son Luke on drums and me on bass. Just about everyone there was dancing themselves silly, from the friends of my daughter & her husband to elderly relatives and toddlers of the next generation. No problems despite intermittent heavy rain, generator was absolutely solid. My son-in-law's father passed away a few years ago and we played a favourite song of his (Hey Joe) in his memory - hardly a dry eye in the house (tent!). One thing I had never expected to see was my ex-wife (mother of my daughters) dancing with my current wife. Very strange! Breakfast at the pub we've stayed in for the last couple of nights, then an hour's drive through the rain back home. I'll be playing at a local blues jam with Al this afternoon if it's not rained off (again).3 points

Personally I loathe covers bands. I’m in a minority though. Generally the public would rather hear p155 poor Oasis covers than a set list of music that has potential to be great given time. Tricky one.3 points

I’m not completely finished, but I enjoy making them and modding them, so why not? My filter of choice is the chunk systems agent 00Funk, favoured octaver is a stripped down OC-2, and the jury’s still out on fuzz pedals - I’ve narrowed it down to a shortlist of around five…2 points

Neck join sorted thanks to a local cabinet maker... Looks good at the heel... I drilled the neck and screwed together... Fitted the 19mm spacing bridge to the marked holes... String run looks OK, E should be better under proper tension... Getting there... Machine heads next...2 points

Another ACS hearing protection user here and long-term sufferer of mild Tinnitus. I use the 17s, as close to flat-response with Db reduction as you'll get (IMO): https://www.acscustom.com/uk/products/hearing-protection/pro-series/pro-17 I also (ordered using the same moulds) use the ACS Sleepsound https://www.acscustom.com/uk/products/sleep-sound These were purchased to protect from a loud snorer at home; equally as annoying as Tinnitus.2 points

Not at all. Having a sound you like on stage is a huge motivator. The audience won’t care if it’s a Berg/BF etc, as long as it sounds ok and fits the music. I chose my gear to do the job, and sound good to me.2 points
