Suhr Classic J Pro up in great condition with original Suhr flight case. If you're a jazz bass fan then this is pretty much as good as it gets. Jazz's have been my mainstay over the years and I've had some very nice ones including Celinder, Moollon, Sadowsky, USA Lakland, all the Fenders etc. These have a reputation for being the best and it's not hard to see why. They take elements that people love about vintage basses and combine them with modern improvements and impeccable build quality. It's a lovely thing and I'll be sorry to see it go. The spec: Alder body Quarter sawn Maple neck with a vintage tint and satin finish Indian Rosewood fingerboard with 7.25" radius Stainless steel frets Clay face and side dots Hipshot Ultralite USA tuners Gotoh vintage bridge Classic J vintage single coil pickups Bakelite control knobs Original hardcase complete with spec sheet Weight 4kg/8.8lb9 points

Ha ha I shouldn't have gone to the gym, now it's got complicated, but everything people are saying is about right. mains in this country (UK) and across the EU is 230V nominally, but that varies depending upon where you are along the power line. Our house averages at 242V. So theoretically 230w is 1A but the general calculation that 250W is 1A is good enough. There's two considerations here; you don't want to trip the fuse and you don't want to set the internal wiring alight! Most household fuses are slow blow to avoid them going every time we turn something on, most stuff in a house takes less power as it warms up. Steve browning has asked the crucial question, what is my amp using when it is on 3? That's amazingly tricky to work out. If you are damping your strings properly there's a lot of time you aren't putting out any sound, all your notes start loud and then decay etc. The 300W or whatever are simply the top limit you hope to never get near. Then again the amp isn't 100% efficient. Switch mode power supplies are better than transformers, transistors better than valves. Modern electrical appliances now have to have an estimate of average power, have a look on the back of your amp if it is recent. My 500W Peavey says 160Wh electrical consumption so that's an average of 160/230 of an amp when it is run quite hard, about 1/3 of the 500W max output. The next issue is the inflated watts that are advertised, for calculating currents you need good old RMS watts (that's where the square root of two comes in, RMS=root mean square) Most single speakers only handle 300W as a rule of thumb so that 1000W Yamaha PA speaker is actually only 500W at best and needs less than 200W of electricity an hour. SO add up all the watts of all your amps/lights and so on and allow 4amps for every 1000W. If you are using solid state amps class D or otherwise and LED lighting then I really doubt most pub bands will be using more than 3000W. You don't need a lot of headroom, as in my Peavey I doubt you'll be running at more than 30% for anything longer than a few microseconds. You only need a second socket if you go over 3000W and that gives you a big safety margin. If i have to go for a second socket I look for a twin socket. In a double socket the two sockets are connected by big copper/brass strips so they are properly earthed to each other by design. I don't trust electricians I haven't met as I've worked on building sites. Most are safety conscious but people make mistakes. If I have to split then I run one circuit for the amps and a separate one for lights and make sure no-one can touch the lights. Your mics are earthed through the PA so you need that plugged into the same earth as the back line. The final thing is to make sure your mains leads are in good condition. There's no point in trusting a single socket if anything you bring in has a broken earth. That's where a circuit tester will help, and use the RCD on your single socket if you think there isn't one elsewhere, though most venues will have regular checks for insurance purposes.5 points

I've had a good few back now and I can't put into words how happy it makes me. I reckon my face here at Legends Festival in Henley with the George Michael show I play with sums it up!5 points

I have played many, many nice basses. I have owned many nice basses. I once bought a 6 string version of this. It was sublime. But it made my head go mushy. I sold it. However, I did promise myself to buy a 5 string when one appeared. Between this appearing and selling the original 6, another 6 appeared. I was ashamed that I did not actually practice on the original 6 so bought the 2nd 6. The original 6 was set up by Overwater. It was sublime. I had the 2nd 6 set up locally and it was just not right. I wanted to send it to OW but Covid, so I gave up on it. Then this appeared. I had it. It did all I expected it to. If it was made in the US we would be laying eggs with excitement about them. Then OW got in touch with me and said they would take my 2nd 6 in and make it lush. Change preamp to OW instead of what someone had put in, new pickups (one was only operating half a coil - or something technical) , set up bottom F# to G. Yummy. I am going to practice and make it work. This leaves me with 2 OW monster basses. This is a definitive 1st world problem. If this was the only OW I had I would keep it. A multi laminate, through neck 36" scale makes B strings do delicious things. However, I do not need 2 of them. And lockdown has increased my stock of basses and something has to give. It is whisper quiet. Wenge facings (I think). It sounds just right. There are a few dings on it (as shown). But it is a BEAST. The price is firm and includes shipping in a HSC (not original - Yamaha as it happens). Price includes shipping. No trades, no offers. But thanks for thinking about them. Worth it, you know you are.3 points

Hi Christian, If it's for the bass I sold you, I can send you an invoice from private seller to private buyer with a copy of the proof of payment. This way you'll have the proof it was yours before all this bullsh*t happened.3 points

The best advice I could give is accept it and make sure you do not give a chance to get any worse. Proper earplugs are imperative.3 points

Here we go...measuring with a wooden folding rule (cm) the data is... exactly 26,5 cm with the folding rule positioned on top of the fret and 26,3cm positioned in front of the fret. I hope you can work with that ?!3 points

I bought Appetite the week it came out and watched as G 'n' R shaped my generation. Since then I have marvelled at how they have gotten worse with every release. I guess when you start on such a high, where do you go? (where do you go now?) I clicked the link, played the song. It's okay. To damn it with faint praise, it's alright but I wouldn't buy it. I enjoyed the autobiographies and usually click any news stories about the original band members but I think my fan club membership metaphorically expired in the late 80s.3 points

Apparently he is as replaceable as the parts of a Lawnmower according to Morrisey. He doesn’t go on to explain why 90% of his own solo career sounds worse than a lawnmower with faulty parts though.3 points

Ta da!!! New driver courtesy of @Chienmortbb. Plan is to add a new front baffle with port, pop a vintage looking cloth grill on and polish up the cabinet so it looks lush. Now to put it in a corner for another 6 months before I muster the drive to complete it 😂3 points

'64 Embassy: It was defretted and the brass nut and fabricated wide-travel bridge added in the 70's. My intention was to refret it but whoever did the work REALLY knew what they were doing. It plays and sounds so good as a fretless I had to leave it as is and actually ended up selling my F-Bass BNF-5 in the classifieds here as a result.3 points

Yes. I used mine as a monitor taking a line out of the back to the desk. So bass > HX Stomp > QSC K12.2 > desk. At gigs without PA I would use the QSC as backline.3 points

My 3 leaf audio octabvre mini has been a staple of my board (although the oc-5 and new octabvre III have tempted me from a curiousity standpoint) Also the combination of a source audio C4, way huge smalls pork and pickle and darkglass Alpha omicron have squashed all of my drive/fuzz/synth bouts of GAS Issue I have, is now these searches are done, I've started going through compressors, gone from xvive bass squeezer to a spectracomp and now eyeing up the ampeg opticomp 🤦♂️3 points

Just in case anyone was following this… I got the excellent Charles Collis to do the work - he’s done a brilliant job. Super easy to use and really secure. He also made me a new extension and set the bass up and it’s sounding great. Can’t recommend him highly enough!3 points

Has anyone attended one of these VIP things at Hyde Park? The ticket price off the link below is £300 a pop, but I just feel that as I'm (cough) getting on (cough) the ticket price includes food and unlimited drink, proper bogs, somewhere to go and dry off (because it's a) July and b) bound to be raining), plus you're in the Ten Club area (front and centre) rather than back the sardine pit. I'm also a little conflicted as to which day - The Pixies have been announced for Friday, I think Idles (meh) on Saturday. Pre-EB Stingray Great Stingray that I bought from BC member drewk_ie 2 months back. This bass is a assembled bass, with a 79 body and 82 neck, hardware, pickups and preamp. The pickguard looks aftermarket to me. The body and neck have been professionally refinished, the neck had a refret, and the body a filled up P routing under the pickguard. This Ray looks, sounds and plays the deal. And that at a very decent price point. Pics: As you can see from the pictures; this bass looks pretty fresh. It has a few bumps at the bottom near the control plate, otherwise I've seen no damages that are worth pointing out separately. The bass works good by all aspects. The neck is straight with a good functioning rod, good frets, and all electronics and further hardware work as they should as well. On this Ray I've got the action the lowest on all I've played. It's really comfortable. Comes with an old tolex hardcase. I didn't think I'd sell this one so soon, as it's the nicest Ray I've played. Though I decided I need a 60s Fender, so almost all my basses will go to raise funds. Don't feel sorry for me, I still have a Modulus Flea:) The bass owes me €1.550. So that's what I want back for it. Price is decent and fixed. I am happy to ship at buyers risk and expense. Ps: Drew, I borrowed the 4 inside pics from your ad, I hope you don't mind. I didn't want to ruin the setup.2 points

Classic 2nd album issue too. Far too much money to throw at it, too much studio time, complete lack of discipline combined with self indulgence resulted in putting together the double Use Your Illusion albums that contained two covers, five songs that are 7.5 - 10min long, and two versions of a fairly feeble ballad. Could’ve been so much better if they had stuck to another 12 song album and ditched all the dross, kept one cover version, and edited some of the longer ‘good’ songs down. And not over produced it. Could have been close to Appetite. Hey ho. They were young…2 points

That really is a great piece of kit. I'm sure everyone knows this but as well as the units own facilities (which are extensive to say the least) there are some terrific routing and blending options available with the external loops as well as integrated and assignable control functions. I used the LT for a while and tbh I got more use with the unit as a 'control centre' than I did from a lot of the internal effects and sims. Glwts2 points

The Three Leaf Octabreve and the OC2 are both killer octave pedals. Search over! Source Audio C4 is insane as a synth pedal. Search over! Empress Compressor is brill for bass. Search over! There’s still a few pedals to try out but basically my pedal GAS is currently at an all time low.2 points

The Source Audio Aftershock made me stopped looking at dirt pedals. I have one more overdrive and two fuzzes, but the Aftershock was the last one and it has every sound I want and need. But the true pedal killer has been the Line6 HX Stomp. I don't feel the need to have any more pedals.2 points

I know that @Newfoundfreedom post was tongue in cheek but fwiw I do the other way around. Stomp>Desk>K12.2 as if it were a normal monitor. Partly so that I can benefit from the desk processing but mainly because there's a snake drop right by my pedalboard on the frontline. Route of least resistance! The point of that either way works just fine.2 points

Not as a VIP but I saw Pearl Jam in Hyde Park at some point in the last 15 years... Best live band I have ever seen. I am not a die hard PJ fan, though Ten was a massive inspiration to me as I was starting out on bass. Best gig I have ever ever seen. I would also consider the VIP thing for this reason, which is also a reason to absolutely not do the VIP thing depending on your slant. When I saw them it was at a Hard Rock Calling event, festival without camping type set up. Saw some of the earlier bands and was quite near the front so just stayed there. Just before PJ came on ten thousand more people came in. As they hit the stage it was like being in the sea when a much bigger wave than you're expecting comes behind you, I was pretty much lifted off my feet and carried forward. Some kids was crowd surfing from back to front and I didn't see him coming, so my hands weren't up and he landed on top of my head, breaking my sunglasses and knackering my neck for days. However, I saw the best concert of my life and being surrounded by die hard fans somehow made the experience better, a bit like being a footy game where everyone is excited and nobody is being a n0b. Towards the end we moved to the side and got a great view and a bit of a calmer experience, but it wasn't the same as being in the thick of it. I am now conflicted about Pearl Jam. I'm scared if I ever watch them again they won't be as good. But I've seen other bands multiple times who just got better and better... Massive conflict!2 points

If you ever use one of those reel power extensions, bear in mind that they have different ratings for wound and unwound. When wound, I think it drops considerably (this one drops from 2400W to 720W, so that's just 3A). We didn't unwind fully once, and it started smoking during the set!2 points

Looking to sell my Music Man StingRay. I've had this bass for at least 10 years - I actually bought it from a fellow BassChat contact when I was still in a band back in the day. But, now I've got a family it's barely being used so it's time to finally part ways with it. It's done hundreds of gigs and of the 20 or so guitars I've had over the years this has by far been the best. Price: £900, feel free to shoot me an offer if you're interested. I'm not interested in trades. Happy to answer any questions or send more pictures if you're looking for something specific. Ideally this would be a collection job, or I'm happy to drive up to an hour to meet and hand over with the buyer. I'm in Country Durham, near J63 A1M.2 points

We used to be 240V with EU being 220V so it was agreed to go to 230V to standardise AFAIK. Dave2 points

I know, I would have loved a batwing on the new one too, but I don't know if the longer top horn would have cancelled out the batwing and the full size tuners. I mocked it up for amusement's sake: Looks awesome, but I got a deal on mine that took the price below the point where I cared about the headstock any more, and I do appreciate how well balanced the new one is for being such a retro design. Wider neck is a plus for me, I don't get on too well with skinny necks.2 points

ACS moulded plugs all the way. Initially tinnitus drove me crazy. Distraction methods were a waste of time in my case. Instead I used mindfulness techniques, where I would go to a quiet space and pay attention to my tinnitus, thereby becoming more acquainted with it and diluting its impact. This allowed me to dance with it, rather than engage in a wrestling match, where I was always going to come out the looser.2 points

Actually id recently said, I was was going to stop buying/trying different pedals for the sake of it. But there are so many flavours and trying them is addictive. This is now 1.60 – 1.90 mm, and my weedy fingers are very pleased. I've noticed that I find fretting on a glossy maple board more effortful than on a nice matte rosewood board. I've never read anyone saying anything like this before, so I'm hoping to have opened up a whole new seam of whining complaint.2 points
