Purchased on the very boutique some years ago from Cosmo Valdemar, this bass has quite the basschat history and passed through several owners! Hopefully now after some tasy mods whoever buys this will want to actually keep hold of it rather than wondering why its not quite reaching that full status potential I could tell it had potential when i got it but alas not with its issue passive pups and 'basic' tone circuit. Originally tried it with a j-east circuit which sounded very good but sounded nothing at all like a status - so i deccided to set about getting it modded a wee bit to get it to how we all know a status should sound Took the original passi ve pups out and replaced with a pair of hyperactives new from the status website. All the pots were very old and dirty and noisy so all replaced with new and new knobs. Spoke with Rob at the factory to ascertain if any of the current stock boards would drop into the cavity but alas not - after a rummage around the workshop he found a suitable custom tone circuit for 150 notes - this did require an extra hole drilling through the body to place the fourth knob. Final purchase was a hiscox status case from the factory - the bass has had a set up a couple years ago by SIMON AT 81GUITARWORKS very minimal tweaking required as expected and it has been playing great ever since - comparitivley light so if weight is an issue then this is for you No swaps or trades plase as this and my US J are subject to herd thinning Prefer cash on collection or instant money transfer on collection Sorry will not post or courier but am prepared to drive a reasonable distance8 points

Suhr Classic J Pro up in great condition with original Suhr flight case. If you're a jazz bass fan then this is pretty much as good as it gets. Jazz's have been my mainstay over the years and I've had some very nice ones including Celinder, Moollon, Sadowsky, USA Lakland, all the Fenders etc. These have a reputation for being the best and it's not hard to see why. They take elements that people love about vintage basses and combine them with modern improvements and impeccable build quality. It's a lovely thing and I'll be sorry to see it go. The spec: Alder body Quarter sawn Maple neck with a vintage tint and satin finish Indian Rosewood fingerboard with 7.25" radius Stainless steel frets Clay face and side dots Hipshot Ultralite USA tuners Gotoh vintage bridge Classic J vintage single coil pickups Bakelite control knobs Original hardcase complete with spec sheet Weight 4kg/8.8lb6 points

Westones have caused me to ruffle the feathers of plenty USA Peavey owners. I find it difficult to bite my tongue when folks are praising early Peavey designs, they're near Stone Age 😃 It was 1985 before Peavey released an active bass and 1988 before they managed neck through models. Westone were offering both in 1981 !! My 83 Thunder III. Isn't she lovely 🙂6 points

I have a boss DD-20, and even though I'm often tempted to get other delay pedals (and do have a few), I generally remind myself that the DD-20 can do everything Dirt pedals on the other hand... they all sound so different, how could you ever settle on one?! In my studio I have a wall of shelves that's over-flowing with pedals. It's so much fun to just pick some at random and plug them in6 points

It was our/my first gig back, so first time playing out in 18 months last night. We played a warm up gig in a pub before we play bloodstock at the weekend. I am so glad we did. The first half of the set I felt quite nervous (few little fluffs and tempo of the first song was ridiculously quick) second half felt back to normal. really enjoyed it and put to bed the pandemic creeping question of “do I really like doing this”. I even enjoyed the challenge of not hearing much on “stage” and having terrible monitors ha!4 points

Was asked at start of week if i'd be interested in joining our drummers other band as their current bassist has decided to leave. My main band is a 70's Glam Rock covers band but they can only manage to gig 6-8 times a year due to work commitments. 2nd band is a blues/rock based 8 piece band incl 2 singers, bass, drums, 2 guitars, keys and sax player. The material is more Paul Carrack, Flletwood Mac to Peter Green amd Clapton. They only want to play their local pubs around the borders towns near Galasheils Kelso etc I'm 40 miles away from where the band are based and rehearse. The new band is a classic Punk covers band who gigged fairly regularly before Covid and have had 3 requests in the past week alone to play various types of gigs in next few months and they haven't started looking for gigs yet. I agreed to give it a try altho i do still have long hair and dont look like a typical punk but i can see a ponytail coming on. 42 songs to learn for their first gig on 18th Sept but they are all quite short. Total of 2.5hrs worth. The singer with them is our backing vocalist in the Glam Rock band too. I've never played punk songs before but have to say i'm really quite enjoying learning them. I normally wouldn't play in more than one band at a time but having spent a lot of money on my new Mesa rig i want to get as much use out of it as i can plus i enjoy gigging. Dave3 points

Our drummist (who's very, very good) has a portable kit (one of those that all fits into the kick, kinda thing...look, I'm not up to speed on drum technicalities, OK? 😕) and can hoick the whole thing in one go on a folding trolley - he's also a drum teacher, but doesn't drive, and in the past has gone to teaching appointments on the bus... Anyhoo, he's also a great sound engineer/producer, and has it all wired up via triggers and Mac-based jiggery-pokery (yeah, I'm not very hot on that stuff, either 😕) - I was a little sceptical at first, till he went 'Do you want John Bonham's snare...like this? (poinks Mac) Or Alex Van Halen's snare...like this? (poinks Mac again)... It's not often I goggle these days, but goggle I did... The sounds were fantastic... And best of all (and here's where this nonsense references the actual thread), there's a volume knob for the whole thing... 😃 It's such a small kit, tho, that we do get people saying 'How big is that drummer? And how far away is he?'3 points

Maybe it's just me but most pedals are WAY overpriced these days it seems. Don't add up the prices on your pedalboard it will scare the hell out of you. Polytune, Alpha-Omicron, Cali76cb, on my board to name a few. Maybe I should just switch to Helix and stop using pedals altogether.3 points

+1 ^^ (...although I'm far from the 'shed-building' class of drummers...). I've not really played my acoustic kit for... well even longer than that... since buying my (inexpensive...) e-kit, which I've fitted out with some extra pads, a laptop and Superior Drummer 3. Total cost..? Less than a set of decent cymbals. I've even bought a second 'kit' (Alesis CompactKit7...) for ad hoc simple jamming at buddy's places or 'garden gigs'. I'd still record with the acoustic set, but doubt I'll be leaving the house with it all, if I can use the e-kit. It makes so much sense, and sounds darned good (through a decent PA, naturally...).3 points

I’m still really taken with my Stormy Bass Drive. It’s tiny, takes a battery and doubles the voltage internally yet uses very little power, has a super useful set of controls and it sounds exactly like I wanted it to. Huge range from a light bit of grit through to glitchy fuzz sounds. It’s just super cool. Although it’s ‘ended’ my search for a bass distortion, I kind of admit that it’s opened my mind to how much fun a good one is and I’ve bought others since but none have been as ‘right’ as my stormy!3 points

Use a proper company that ships personal effects. Not a courier company. International removal companies will know how to do this. Your goods should be declared as personal effects, not new, with a reasonable declared value. As personal effects they will not attract any duties. Most UK based International removal companies will have contacts in European countries that can handle the Italian end for you. This used to be my profession.3 points

Also remember that tinnitus is also linked to high pollen in the air and the inherent allergy, so during these periods you can use antihistamines and if you want to use a natural one, use plantain weed. You might think I'm an organic nerd, but I'm not at all. The fact is I'm coming from the chemical medical domain and noticed that for long term treatments, the chemical medication has more side effects than primary effect(s), so I started looking for other solutions and the herbal medicine being the base of ... medicine has very little side effects or even none, hence studying this branch (also the bud therapy) and finding the right treatment associated with an healthy life and osteopathy and/or physiotherapy. I also use these treatments for myself suffering from tinnitus, Méniere disease and fibromyalgia, plus a totally broken back with well blocked cervical vertebrae... But strangely still having an excellent hearing (yearly test), certainly thanks to my curing approach. I only want to help, nothing else, like everyone here.3 points

Different coloured! Genius! In 3 years time when I get my next ones I will be doing that. As an aside, I use one to sleep. Not for any tinnitus reasons, just because I have realised that I am monitoring sounds in my sleep and if they are not there I sleep better. I often wake up 8 hours later in the same position. Unless I have had to get up to go to the toilet - but that is for another thread.3 points

Glad it made you chortle. Do all Precision style basses sound the same? Not to me, but put a P pickup at the right spot and it's going to be 'precisiony'... and nobody seems to laugh at the notion, try that with a Stingray and it's comedy time 🤪 If Thomann stuck a MM style pickup at the right place on that thing above, it's going to sound more Stingray than anything else... look, they even put the G string falling off the edge of the fretboard, a bit like in a SR5 I know my way around a Stingray and Stingray style basses, and have been for years so I would like to think I know what sounds a Stingray makes. But feel free to criticise without trying them, it's free.3 points

Ampeg SVT-7 Pro Looking to part ways with my Ampeg bass amp. I've had this amp probably in excess of 10 years and was gigged extensively when I was in a band at the time. It's lived it's whole life inside a Gator flight case too, so it's in good condition. Pictured with the rack ears still attached, which you're welcome to take. It's been a while since I've been in a band or had the space (or tolerant neighbours), so it's not been played for some time. I don't even own a guitar or a speaker cab now but it does turn on as pictured. Buyers welcome to test it out. Looking for £325 £280. Collection only. Or happy to meet up to 1 hour away from Durham for a handover. Also happy to send over any more pictures or info for those interested.2 points

Finally got to use my new rig at a rehearsal. Had to turn the gain down a bit to suit the material, all tone controls more or less at 12 O'clock. Volume never went past 8 o'clock, ample power just ticking over. The band kept saying how cool it looked and awesome it sounded 🙂2 points

Hi Christian, I've just sent you the pro forma invoice, the PayPal proof of payment and a copy of the original advert. All these documents are in pdf format and signed. I've always used these documents alongside a CN23 (or CN22 according to the weight) for all the items I've sold outside the EEC and they have always been received as official and legal ones. And I've sent hundreds of items outside EEC over the years without a single issue using the same pattern.2 points

Nah it’s the BC way. A heap of pedals are bought, photographed in situ on a pedal board, rejigged and then replaced with essential the same pedal (and in your case the actual same pedal) only to be re-captured, reposted and then swapped again. I sometimes wonder if it’s as much about having the latest ‘cool looking pedals’ such is the power of a forum and the hype generated. I think the pedal board thread on here should be renamed Pedal Bored as folk seem to change up things with such frequency as to have lost interest in the new pedal before it’s even arrived in the post.2 points

I'd be very interested in hearing your views on it. In my experience cheaper FRFR speakers can rarely handle bass, they appear to be pieces of equipment where you get what you pay for. RCF, QSC and Yamaha seem to cut it where very little else does. Very foolishly I recently sold all my basses, amplification (I have a few leads left!) and now I've seen the error of my ways 🙄 I am looking to replace it all, I could get two of those with change out of the price of a QSC.2 points

That's kind of my point to be honest! How can Thomann do it but Hartke can't? Yes yes economies of scale and such but it's not like Larry is hand building amps in his garage these days either. I know I know, to be honest I bet the reality is somewhere in between what I think and what you think. I love good, high quality, cheap gear. I own a Harley Benton bass and a The Box (also a Thomann brand) pa cab, both of which are superb and punch well above their price tags. I also love and champion both Studiospares and Orchid here all the time, both cheaper brands. However I think you're asking a lot to get what's essentially a full stage rig for £200 brand new. By the sounds of it your volume requirements are low and as you've mentioned Thomann have an excellent returns policy. Go for it, just have reasonable expectations of what any £200 amp can deliver.2 points

Well they can but most of the current moulded cabinets are a compromise, and in general, the lower the cost the higher the compromise. To make a moulded cab as strong and non resonant as a well designed wooden cabinet means a great deal of expense and a lot of engineering. Look at the amount of bracing you can see externally on these. However every cabinet is a compromise and some moulded cabinets work well. Incidently these weigh 17Kgs as a passive cabinet and cost about £500 new.2 points

I’ve been using a Basswitch IQ DI on my board for about 10 yrs. It has a great preamp with two bands of semi para mids. More then than it has a heap of other features from dual fx loops, mute switch, boost, dual instrument inputs and A/B switching. It’s so much more than a simple EQ. Also I’ve been using a Cali76 from about the same time although it’s changed from the big box to a compact back to the big box it’s always been running in the parallel fx loop on the Basswitch. A match made in heaven!2 points

This ^. Absolutely this ^. I have my own rehearsal space (i.e. converted garage) and the two main bands I play in both rehearse there. Part of my persuasion technique was to buy a half-decent electric drumkit, since my space is not 'properly' soundproofed and I have close neighbours. Even the most Neanderthal of the many drummers who have played the leccy kit over the years have ended up really liking it, to the point of being prepared to gig with it at smaller/quieter venues.2 points

Again, if you are going to use FRFR/PA cabs, ensure they can handle the transients of live bass.2 points

I was reading about a couple of other therapies for tinnitus. One is associated with the temporomandibular joint (your jaw to skull joint). If your tinnitus worsens when clenching your jaw or if you have teeth misaligned, neck pain etc. coupled with tinnitus then this could be making things worse; https://www.tinnitus.org.uk/tinnitus-and-tmj The other treats normal tinnitus (is there such a thing) with a different type of neuromodulation but seems to have high success rates; https://www.lenire.com/the-science-of-lenire/2 points

I did six months of gigs with only a secondhand Aria STB P bass and a Behringer BDI 21, straight to PA. Total outlay £60, £70 if you include the lead. I never had any issues or worries and would happily do it again, even using the Cruiser P bass I picked up recently for £20. Spending money doesn't necessarily mean you've got gig competent gear, spending time maintaining whatever gear you've got usually does.2 points
