**No longer for sale. Too nice to let go so keeping it ** edit : was asked for dimensions/weights so will put them here too Nut width 48mm String spacing at bridge 17mm Weight 11 lbs 1996 G&L L5500 in see thru red over ash body with quartersawn maple neck with carbon graphite strengthening rods and rosewood fingerboard, G&L saddle lock bridge, G&L stamped elephant ear tuners, EMG humbuckers with EMG BTC 2 band active EQ. Built in small numbers (less than 500 I’m led to believe) before the L-2500 appeared in 1997. This model was the transition model between the L-5000 which had a very narrow nut and string spacing and the L-2500 and used the EMG pickups and circuit while G&L were getting their five string MFD pickups ready. This bass is in nice condition for its 25 years. There is tarnishing on the machine heads, bridge saddles and most notably on the black crinkle neck plate, some buckle rash, some crazing in the lacquer on the back and there a couple of slightly duller patches on the front which can only be seen from close up and at certain angles. There are numerous small knocks around the bass (none which go through to the wood) commensurate with the age of the bass. No structural, electronics or playability issues though the pots could do with a spray of electrical contact cleaner. They are fine when set and cause no problems. The bass comes with the certificate of authenticity and user manual etc and has the original G&L hard shell case which though scratched, functions perfectly. Not looking for trades and no cash offers. This is a USA G&L made in Fullerton,CA and is priced to sell with no further price reductions. I am on shropshire/Staffordshire/Cheshire borders. Can travel up to an hours drive for a meet.6 points

1973 Vintage Guild - JS II Electric Bass Guitar - Walnut Brown w/ Gig Bag. I imported this from the USA about 6 months ago. All Original! The JS bass models were the direct descendent of the . like the Jetstar, it had a mahogany body, three-piece mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, 21 frets, Chesterfield and Guild inlays and Hagstrom bridge and Guild humbucker pickups. This bass is in very good condition and sounds fantastic. Fast thin neck with a 30.5 inch scale. Guild JS bass chronology Guild bass humbucker circa 1975 - The earliest models were fitted with Hagstrom humbuckers, but by 1971 or 72 these had been replaced by Guilds own pickups, as heralded in this 1971 1967 Last Jetstar bass manufactured - model discontinued in 1969[1] 1970 JS bass launched as the one-pickup JS bass I ($270) and the two-pickup JS bass II ($350) [2]. Finishes: Cherry, Sunburst or Black[3] 1971 Hagstrom bisonic single-coil pickups replaced with Guild humbucker pickups 1972 Long scale (JS bass I LS, JS bass II LS) stereo, and fretless models added to the range 1973 Aswell as the existing finshes, natural and walnut are now available[4] 1974 Optional carved top (advertised as natural models only, although maybe other finishes). 1976 JS bass 1 withdrawn[5] 1977 JS bass I also have some Curtis Novak pickups for sale on BC that are a perfect match for this bass. I did try these pickups but the bass isn't for me so returned it to stock. Will post at buyer's expense.6 points

This is a CIJ reissue 51 slab body Precision with ashtrays. I purchased the bass from this forum in 2015. This is the description from the seller (Hope you don’t mind the plagiarism). “Lightweight bass, originally the bass was a yellow - butterscotch - colour but has been professionally refinished in natural and looks very nice indeed. Neck is straight, minimal fret wear and trussrod works as it should. The bridge is a four saddle job so probably a replacement.” Since 2015 had little use as just after purchase moved fully to short scale bass. Bass has some very small dings on the body, mostly around strap post, a bit of buckle rash and an inch scratch on scratch plate, but the neck and head stock are in good condition without bumps or bruises. Set up pre COVID with new set of flat strings at Reidys Home of Music. Only played to tune up since. Bit of crackle on the pots due to little use. Collection from Rossendale, Lancashire4 points

Following on from the @Bobthedog thread last week about consolidation, I think I've finally reached as consolidated position as I can myself with regards to guitars and basses. A few months ago I found that I had in excess of a dozen guitars and basses and honestly, the majority of them were getting no playing time whatsoever, so I decided to really try and whittle down my collection to what I consider would be go-to instruments: my toolbox if you will. Anyway, after a pleasant trip to Bass Direct this morning I traded in a few basses (at very reasonable valuations I hasten to add) and left with my new Stingray Special 5 String. This bass wasn't a stranger to me as I'd nipped up several times to try it before but finally decided to go for it and I'm glad I did. It's a super super bass in my favourite colour scheme. So that leaves me with my P Bass, my Fretless and my new SR5. That's it. And I feel happier for it. Guitar-wise I'm left with my Martin D18, an American Original Thinline Tele and my American Pro ii Strat. Again, I think this will do me for what I really need and want, and I'm hoping that everything will get played significantly more than it had done. I feel strangely cleansed4 points

Not bad for a day's work. I messed up the pickup cavity a little - thank god for scratchplates. The wood doesn't look so great in its rough sanded form - before I sliced into it it was a beautiful red colour. I'm hoping with more sanding and an oil finish it'll look pretty sweet. Whether it looks good with that shiny yellow neck remains to be seen. It'll be nice to have this bass (or a version of it) back on the squad4 points

I love my single coil P-basses , so much I ended up with few. Some other variations on the theme. @lowlandtrees I would suggest you try and play one first . If the tone is not for you then it's game over ; I tried plenty of different pickups/caps in the builds , no matter the magnet type/ wire count it doesn't alter the character by much.4 points

I had some berg hd's years ago and foolishly sold em and have been chasing that sound ever since , had Aguilar DBs, SLs, BF , Aero , berg neos etc On Friday I saw bd had a pair of second hand hd112s and I had a gig south of Birmingham so enroute I played em and bought em trading in my barefaced 210 ( very fair price from Mark) and wow what a difference , punchy low mids , sparkly refined highs , it's like I can hear myself again , the bf was loud and light but I haven't got any other positives for it , the HDs are heavy but it's like night and day for me3 points

**NOW SOLD** Bought on here a couple of months ago. Has largely been my go to bass in that time but I am after another bass that has caught my eye and a couple of my basses will have to go to fund it. Ash body finished in transluscent white. Nicely figured neck with a bit of birdseye. Rosewood fingerboard. Lakland bridge, hipshot tuners, Lakland vintage J pickups. Lakland Levy’s deluxe gig bag. Bass is in excellent condition. Has a mark at the end of the headstock on the edge, otherwise very clean. The neck has been plek’d, plays beautifully and has the lowest action of all my basses. Guarantee that first to try will buy. Fantastically good passive jazz bass. Very reluctant sale. No cash offers or trades. I’m on Shropshire/Staffordshire/Cheshire borders. Could meet locally. Postage will be difficult as I don’t have a shipping box but I may be able to source one. Postage will be £25 to UK mainland though this does not include insurance/cover. edit: weighed the bass and it comes out at 4.26kg/9lb 7oz3 points

Y'know what? I'm pretty sure I sold that guitar to Dave, would've been April 1992 if I'm right. I was never EVH's guitar tech but someone I know very well (probably too well!), shared a cell with him for some 18 months, and that, in a roundabout way, is how the instrument (or what was left of it at the time) came into my possession. Too bad Dave seems to have forgotten half the back story - particularly the bizarre and convoluted tale of why, in the bottom of each pickup cavity, etched into the wood, using the tip of a hot object (likely a soldering iron) in a rather flamboyant copperplate script, are the three words 'clavicle', 'antelope' and 'buttock'. And what that odd, strange-smelling pinky-blue gelatinous substance, stubbornly clinging to the trem springs actually was! I couldn't believe it when I found out! Anyway - I have to say I'm delighted it's in good hands now, it's a genuine piece of rock history & I always wondered what became of it! Do remind me to tell you all about The Curse one day.3 points

Is that not the sign of a great gig where the adrenelin is still running when you get home. I'm always like that. Have to wind down with a coffee and biccy when i get home no matter what time it is. Dave3 points

Thanks for doing that but the deed's already done. The very hard maple and walnut (or whatever it is) in the neck thru part doesn't absorb the ink like the pine so I'm just trying to match the tone of colour to the body. But there's no going back now. 😁3 points

Its a bit like when I listen to Stephan Grappelli for the first time. Im amazed. Im sure she plays a Grappelli riff in her playing. Mind bending piano playing from Hiromi Uehara.3 points

To me her best era is definitely with Simon Phillips and Anthony Jackson ! Period. I think I've listened to all her material with whoever. Don't forget that she was Chick Corea's protégée and they recorded an excellent, but now hard to find, record with them both on piano, simply called Duet. She also recorded a few albums with Stanley Clarke ! Listen to this live and don't underestimate Steve Smith on drums and Anthony Jackson in his certainly favourite style of music :3 points

Wigan Diggers Festival last night. Brilliant big stage and sound system. Great crowd. The only negative was the shared drum kit. In hindsight I should have insisted I use my own but I don't like to rock the boat. It looks like an adult brought breakables to a kids drum kit! And there was no rug so the bass drum was wandering around3 points

Yeah but he only actually played three of those drums, the rest were just for show. He could have used Ringo's kit3 points

Did a wedding tonight, went well, everyone happy, nice venue, not a cheap event. 9-12. Quite a lot of people in a nice country place. But the most impressive thing to me was we played for 2hrs and 55 minutes, and the bride danced to every song and out set list is random (we are not a wedding band by any means)3 points

My band Black Atlas played a local weekend festival called Balstock. wonderful gig in a small pub. Had the privilege of playing just before @Salt on your Bass? Absolutely wonderful sound he had going on, and he let me borrow his cab(s) (same as what I use which was brill, I didn’t have to bring mine)3 points

Two midweek (instead of weekend) gigs this week which makes a change. First Reading and then Folkestone, both great gigs and well worth the trek from Yorkshire. Again, good to see audiences prepared to come and and support bands, certainly makes me optimistic for the future.3 points

Black, black, maple. Fender Deluxe range became Elite then Ultra. This was £1350 in 2013. Fender humbuckers, 5 position switch, 18V pre amp, bass/mid/treble cut or boost. Asymmetrical neck with compound taper fretboard (9.5 inch to 14 inch). Really super necks, with graphite rods & a truss rod WHEEL, yay! 41.3mm nut, weight is 9lb 1oz, Ash body. Comes with original big TSA hardcase in excellent condition. All case candy, even case keys, included. Despite Fender doing a full range of these from a single pup passive Squier right up to this top of the range model, they never really caught on. Perhaps too modern for most Fender lovers. Most who have them rate them rather highly. Last of my active basses to go, I just don't use them, this has never left the house. TRADES. I would prefer a sale however I would do a straight swap for a 2102-2015 American Precision in excellent condition. Possibly American Special Precision + £150 to me. COURIER. I'd rather not, it's big case & it's going to cost a buyer around £70 fully insured (obviously cheaper if they want to take the risk). Prefer collection from Darlington but would meet up within a hundred miles radius. Feedback available, many thanks for looking, cheers, Karl.2 points

*SOLD* Fender Classic 60s Jazz Bass, good condition, white body, rosewood fingerboard, tortoiseshell scratch plate. I acquired this bass in exchange for a 6 string Ibanez a couple of years ago and have used it for a few gigs and rehearsals since then - it is a a fine example of the best basses Fender have made in Mexico, but I already had one I bought in 2013. The Grateful Dead sticker is vinyl and easily removed without leaving any marks - I can do this if required. .No hard case included, but will include a Fender gig bag. Collection or meet up preferred, but I do have a bass box if the buyer is willing to risk post/courier.2 points

TRADES FOR SOMETHING 4 STRING AND MORE TRADITIONAL!! WHY? Hi All I bought this just as another came up that I had been waiting for but given up on!? 😬 So here we have a bass I know next to nothing about? Looks very Warwick influenced which attracted me to it firstly. Nice light bass with head turning looks due to the grain fill against the light wood? body. I don't know the body wood but it has a slightly sculpted back and sounds great. Worth pointing out that the grain grooves can be felt on the surface it's not a flat finish. Like the Warwick line it has MEC J pickups married to a 2 band eq. 24 fret 5 piece laminate maple neck with rosewood board. Black hardware with a very robust bridge which seems to mimic through body stringing. 34" scale. (EDIT) Volume knob is active/passive push pull pot. The current variants start at £775 upwards so I think this is a decent priceAs it is unmarked as far as I can see. States on the web that these are hand made but?... Nicely made branded hard case included. A bit of tarnish on a couple of frets but should come off easily enough. Weight at a guess is 3.5kgs will weigh later. Any questions I will try my best to answer. Cheers Craig.2 points

As some of you may know, I have been on the hunt for a Motown and old-school (rock) bass for quite some time. Well, the hunt is over as I recently bought this Fender American Pro II P bass in the dark night finish. Very nice bass. I especially like the smooth neck and the build quality. It was a bit difficult to actually find a Pro II in this finish. Couldn't find one in the UK. I eventually got hold of one on reverb, seller was LL Music Center in Belgium https://www.llmusiccenter.com/gitaren/bas.html The owner Luc was very nice and packed the bass super safely (double boxing). The whole transaction went smoothly and I definitely would buy from Luc again. As you can see from the photos, I added a Dark Knight hologram sticker I found on Etsy. I just could not resist. As I always buy and sell basses (this year, so far, I've bought six and also sold six), I got a replacement pickguard to protect the original one from unwanted sticker glue. The company is called d'Andrea and the pickguard is of excellent quality with perfect fit. I cannot notice any difference between this one and Fender's original one. Could it be that they produce pickguards for Fender? Would not surprise me. Anyway, I can recommend d'Andrea in case you are looking for a replacement pickguard. I got mine from Thomann. https://www.thomann.de/gb/dandrea_p_bass_style_pickguards_for_bass.html I also added a thumb rest. It came with two screws but I am only using one as I did not want to drill an extra hole. Still works perfectly as I am anchoring my thumb near the end of the thumb rest where the screw is. Finally, I changed the strings to LaBella 760 FS. I love these strings. They really help create the sound I had in my mind for this bass. So far, so good 🙂2 points

Today I got the pickup backing plate trimmed and filed, so the pickups are test-fit mounted. I’ll shield the cavity and refit them later. Also did a dry run with a cereal box control plate.2 points

Excellent condition nice low action just restrung with a cheap set of strings but they sound and play well. It comes with original gig bag please note it has bridge replaced. It is nice and low action with lots of movement on bridge and truss rod. Real rosewood fingerboard. Can add ashtrays for £25..2 points

Well my word I was not expecting that from this bass, took it out of the bag after about 10 years, it has one of the best slap sounds I have heard strait out of a bass for a long time. It has a very complex system for a 41 year old. I had to sort it out a bit, but it needs more work (jack) I felt like playing drums as well.2 points

This is what I went for: - micro board = Zoom B1-4 - gigging mini board = FI-->OC5-->Octava-->Proton-->B1-4 - 'creative' larger home board In terms of signal chain, I'd have been fine swapping the synth and octave pedals around at the start - but PB tetris dictated the final order on that one. The remainder were my preferred choice signal chain order. So we just now need to work out who was closest out of you good chaps who played, in terms of (i) exact pedal selection or at least (ii) the correct pedal 'genre' (e.g. synth, dirt) and (iii) tie-breaker of signal chain order.2 points

Leaving aside my experiences with my Status, and on a more general note- If you have specific requirements from a build or alterations from the norm to be made in any bass, be very specific, otherwise you'll get the builder's interpretation of what you asked for. Don't just tick a box on an options sheet, discuss how it'll affect the performance of the instrument. In this case, I'd find out from Status how they implement single-coil taps, which coils they use and why, and what effect that has on output and tone. If the manufacturer can't answer that sort of question.. Well, decide for yourself how well tried and tested the modification is. I ended up paying extra for something that was useless based on the assumption that it would work like my previous positive experiences of series/parallel/single coil switching. It worked really well in the aforementioned Stingray5, a Warwick Corvette $$ and (subsequently) an Ibanez ATK derivative (SC with hf roll off and slight mid-scoop, SC, and parallel) * I think I'm going to drop out of this discussion now as I'm concerned that my personal experiences are biasing my views. I hope that your S2 turns out to be awesome, and stays that way.2 points

Things stalled a bit this past week. I chickened out of drilling the bridge holes and thought I’d do something simple instead; mounting the machine heads. Well that turned out to be less straight forward than I expected. First the headstock ferrules were loose and kept falling out so I tried packing them with a bit of tape. That was less than satisfactory but I pressed on. Then I didn’t have a drill bit small enough for the mounting screw holes so I used a bradawl. Also not great. This totally amateurish approach caused me to ruin several screws so I ordered a couple of packets more. When they turned up they were the wrong ones and I ended up with 20 string tree screws can you believe! I decided to leave things and stepped away from it for a few days. Today I remembered that I had another set of no name machine heads and the ferrules from those fit the holes perfectly. The mounting screws from that set were also a shade narrower than the ones I’d ruined and fit the holes nicely. So job done, that’s another step forward.2 points

Here is my contribution to the August 2021 Basschat Composition Challenge, inspired by a picture chosen by the previous winner: Doctor J. Apologies in advance; I'm in a sombre mood, and it reflects in the result. A bit dark; more 'black' than 'white', I'm afraid. Despite this, no kittens were hurt in the making of this piece. A collection of orchestral samples spliced together, with a 'Birds' Superior drum track to help the pace along. No Fx, just a Cockos compression preset on the drums to keep them present. Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy.2 points
