Mine arrived today from Thomann. Out of the box it was very nice, after a quick set up (allen keys and truss-rod bar included), it was lovely. Will probably replace those strings with a set of Fat Beams though. I second the very helpful review from @BassAgent above. Thank you for your encouragement to go ahead with this. It plays well, no sharp frets,well finished and crucially no noise ! Thepickups and preamp are really quiet on all settings, in fact it was quieter than the one that I tried in Guitarguitar recently, so possibly a newer one. He told there's was a later model and they all sound like that. Hmmm! Slight negatives are the hardware does have a bit of a "Far Eastern" feel, (well it is) and there is a big drop in gain from active to passive. To be expected I suppose, however I can't see me using passive much unless the battery dies. Rehearsal tonight so I'll give it a proper test.7 points

These threads always make for interesting reading. A swing band wanting a bass player at all their rehearsals. Doesn't sound that unreasonable to me. Hardly a cult. And setting out expectations from start. I'd say they sound like a straight up, decent lot.5 points

I'm currently involved with five (yes, 5) bands. Two are frontline commercial gigging bands (I have eight consecutive double-header weekends coming up, starting this Friday), two are active side projects which would be interested in gigging maybe 1/2 times a month, and one is a new side project in formation which would never get weekend gigs because it will be insufficiently commercial. Over the last five years I have been rejected by at least 20 bands - it wouldn't surprise me to find that it was actually twice as many! By far the most common reason given has been that they're unhappy with me playing in other bands, and that's really not an issue for me ... much of the time they're probably right, and it would turn out to be a problem for the band. I'm able to make five bands work because: ALL gigs for the two busy commercial bands are brought in by @Silvia Bluejay and myself, which rules out any chance of diary clashes on Fri/Sat nights. Neither frontline band wants to play more than 3/4 gigs a month, whereas I'm happy to play a dozen if they're available. I'm always scrupulously honest with side projects, from first response onwards. I make it absolutely clear that their band will be a side project for me - most immediately say 'YUK' but occasionally the response is "Great, that's exactly how we feel too". I choose side projects that play music I'd really love to be playing, but which I don't get to play in my commercial bands. There have been times when playing with my Classic Soul side project has been like juggling with soup, but I'm compensated for that by the opportunity to play some of my favourite songs with a decent bunch of musicians. A further side benefit of playing in all these outfits, many of them short-term, is that when the next project comes along and it turns out they're missing a guitarist or a drummer or whatever, I always have a pool (or at least a puddle) of musos who I've actually played with that I can trawl to make up any gaps.5 points

First gig since December 2019, and a last minute addition to the HRH Goth line-up for Sunday's Leeds gig. Two mega 6-hour rehearsals to get up to speed after having not played as a band for 18 months. Nice big stage, great sound and a decent-sized audience considering that we were on at two in the afternoon and main attraction for the weekend (Fields Of The Nephilim) were on the previous night. Hi all, New member here, but just though I’d share my new (to me) BBP34. It sounds great and was exactly what I was after in a PJ setup and the neck feels amazing. The cull of my lovely collection continues. This one is going to hurt a bit. Corvette, ash body, ovankol neck, bell brass frets, no wear to speak of. Good working machine heads (a Warwick achilles heel) Warwick says: produced: 20.08.2002 Description: Corvette Standard, 4-string Natural Oil finish Swamp Ash body Ovangkol neck Chrome hardware Made in Germany Its has dints and is faded in a few places, it has been used/loved. I was going to rub it down and re-finish in gun stock oil. If that interests the buyer will ship with the bottle i bought. I bought it as a passive, installed a Glockenklang pre-amp and run it in 18v mode. Pull to passive on the volume control. Stacked Bass/Treble. Pickups are MEC dynamic corrections. The Glockenklang isn't mega hot output, but smooth and classy with nice headroom. Very usable, very playable. Happy to meet up to exchange nr m25 for petrol/caffeine money. Pickup from Rochester, or can post at buyers expense (expect about £40 insured well packed door to door)4 points

Got myself a nice new Markbass set up over the weekend and wanted to show it off to a crowd who might actually care! It is: - 600W Little Mark III head - Traveller 102P cab on top - Traveller 115P cab below All in a custom made "trifibre" case. The Little Mark Vintage underneath the LMIII is mine too - I've basically just got a spare / back-up now. Only played a little bit with it solo so far, but good things to report already. Sounds excellent with the P, and really enjoying the differences the VLE / VPF can make. I've tried both the LMII and the LMV, and I have to say inital reports I might actually prefer the sound of the LMIII! Will have to wait for band context to see how it goes. Flight case super useful for all the upcoming gigs (fingers crossed). Who else is using this / a similar set up? How are you finding it?3 points

I've got flats on my P bass (and had them on all my P's) I keep trying flats on my jazz, even recently had EB cobalts which are very bright. I just can't get on with that sound on a jazz! To me a jazz should have that zingy hollow snap with both pickups on or that burpy punch on the back. I also love the slap sound on a jazz, and I haven't found any flats I like for slap. That being said Joe Osborne and John Paul Jones always sounded fantastic with the jazz/flats combo.3 points

I have honestly never been into the idea that for a certain sound a certain bass is required. I've just wanted something that sounds like a "bass guitar" and besides IME most of the sound comes from how you play it and how you treat the electronic signal it produces rather than the actual instrument itself. Also I've been told that most of the "P-Bass sound" comes from the type and position of the pickup, so anything with the appropriate pickup in the right pace should get you close enough in the band mix.3 points

I've got an Abarth 500; the size of the boot is more suited to a singer with no more than 2 mics and a very small notebook of lyrics. With the seats down I can just about squeeze a bass amp and Markbass 4x10 in, but there's not much rear vision. However, it's such fun that: a) I don't care b) I've scared the other members of the band sufficiently that I don't need to worry about carrying a passenger as well...3 points

A bit like the old Classic 60 Jazz in Nitro (I bought one new in 2013 and still have it)? I suspect they will do that with the Vintera range soon. I've spent a long time looking for a suitable partner for my classic 60s and just bought a Vintera 60s this morning - so the cellulose Vintera Jazz will be announced by the end of the month!3 points

Latest (and last, for now) upgrade to my wee board. Just picked up the tiny Swiff tuner from @jrixn1 this afternoon, so my trusty old Korg DT-7 is now retired. I might do some cable-tidying work at some point, but for now it will do fine. Yes, I know the Zoom has a tuner in it, but I prefer a separate one.3 points

Dirty loops don’t always hit a bullseye with their stuff (but I can’t name a single act I like that does) but when they do I think the results are glorious. I have listened to the new stuff and wasn’t immediately struck by thriller, but the instrumental funk song above and turn on the light just leave me in awe! If I played in a band even 1/10 as good as them I would be permanently grinning like a Cheshire Cat, playing good music just does that to me. I played in a 12 piece soul band and when we got it right I basically laughed and smiled song after song and was permanently looking at and bouncing off my band mates. I don’t know why having fun comes off as being smug.3 points

Note that the tone is on full throughout and it’s wearing flats, also slight drop in volume occurs after each change as my old iPhone adjusts audio settings! Lovely light (3.7kg) p/j with great neck converted to passive with kiogon loom V/B/T and series/parallel push pull switch on volume pot. High quality components used on the passive loom, Bourns pots and it’s solderless so easy to switch in upgraded pickups if you wish. The scratch plate is the original so has the holes for the original preamp pots and switch (covered by tape in pics 😂). Original Sire preamp included - will need fitting if you want to use. It’s a beast active/passive switch vol/tone/mid(mid frequency)/treble/bass. Currently setup with Dunlop Flats 45/105, bright flexible flats. Action low/medium. I’ve gigged it a couple of times and it’s so comfy and playable. Awesome grain popping through sunburst too. *Shipping/courier update* I have had a few enquiries about shipping costs. UK £17 minimum without additional insurance. I have suitable boxes but I don’t have a hard-case which might invalidate any insurance claims if there’s a problem. A work around for interested parties would be to purchase a hard case and send to me for shipping bass to you. I have sent many basses with appropriate boxes well packed with no issues before. I travel to West London via A1 three times a weeks so meet/up delivery is possible Along that stretch or close by.2 points

Up for sale is my thunderously awesome Fender USA Geddy Lee Jazz Bass. As a result of a Fender factory mess up, the one I have (serial number: US15099634) is a USA Geddy with a neck with black fretboard inlays (meant for the limited run red version), rather than the standard pearloid inlays. This is a unique one of a kind USA Geddy. More details on how this came about, and some correspondence with Fender to verify this, can be found on this thread from the bass's previous owner: Plays and sounds as good as you've heard these basses do, the pickups are absolutely huge and beastly sounding and the tone control is the most effective and wide ranging I've ever experienced on any passive bass. The thicker-profiled neck has a unique and super comfortable oiled back of the neck finish in addition to the period-specific finish and binding on the rest of the neck. Comes with an ABS hard case with all the case accessories. Condition is overall very good with a dent on the bottom edge of the body, a bit of light finish scratching due to buckle rash and a couple of very small knocks on the headstock (please see photos). I want £1250 for this which is what I paid for it - no trade offers please as I need the money. A quick look at the Fender website shows that these basses now retail at £2,349 new so this is a good deal on a bass of this quality. Collection or a meet up would be strongly preferred, or I could courier this in the UK only at the buyer's expense. I would agree as well, having been double jabbed for some time I’ve always been cautious about taking risks, but if you had negative results beforehand I can’t see an issue. However, as always the decision has to be right for you and I would be respectful of your choice.2 points

When I used to live closer to most of our gigs, when I got home I'd have a candle lit bath with bath salts, beef jerky, scotch, listen to post-rock and read my book. That really helped, now we have an en-suite I might resurrect that for local gigs again.2 points

I've been using the swiff tuner for over a year both for recording and more recently, live work. It does exactly what it's supposed to do, and there have been no extraneous noises when switching.2 points

The BTB range started off life as Ibanez's take on a 'boutique bass'. Monorail bridge, fancy wood tops and finishes, five piece neck, active, dual in house humbucker based on bartolini mk1's. the model range has gone through a few ups and downs, but this is one of the really nice early ones. Now available in the prestige etc lines ...big money. Finished in a deep trans grey/black over a quilt maple cap, with matching headstock. I love them and as a collector/player i have owned a few over the years and never been disappointed. I traded this bass recently and fully set it up for stage use, polished out most of the light usage marks, re-strung it, its now clean, well set up and looks/plays great! So there I was then, rather stupidly i allowed myself a wander through these very classifieds and boom G.A.S attack for another 5 string, so for sale it is. Classy looking bass at a good price.
