What are you up to this New Years Eve ? Staying home, party , gig ? Me , very low key. Gig at The Barley Pop in Germantown WI. Great hours, 3:00 - 7:00 with 15 minute commute. I should be home by 9:30. Blue7 points

If we don't get locked down, and nobody in the band catches Omicron or is pinged etc., we are gigging with Damo And The Dynamites at a nice small pub in Buckinghamshire. There will be little space for the band and even less space for the PA and the sound engineer (me), so we'll try to simplify the setup as much as we can. 🤞7 points

Box no.2, mahogany and oak, BLO with wax. I'm not convinced with how I left the end where the lid fits in, I should have cut the top frame rail in half so the end panel is finished rather than flapping in the breeze, but that would have bu$$ered up the proportions. Yes it looks like another table tomb.5 points

Just listen to Ray Brown’s playing on Have You Met Miss Jones. Every note in its place and an example of how to swing without going he’ll for leather. Happy Christmas!4 points

Angel Dust - Faith No More The first album where Billy Gould really showed the full range of his talent and versatility. The record blurs genres with bits of pop, heavy metal, lounge jazz and alternative rock mashed together in to something completely original. Paranoid - Black Sabbath Geezer Butler at his most creative and possibly the most influential metal album ever. And out come the wolves - Rancid Matt Freeman was absolutely on fire from the first note to the last on this album. About as far from typical punk bass as it gets. He combines elements of ska, rockabilly and punk in to something really special and in my opinion, the greatest punk album of all time.4 points

1986, Japanese, rare as rocking horse poop. Acquisitions mean it’s clear out time…not every day you accidentally buy a musicman sabre. I say accidentally… Anyhow, this bass is special. Identical to that of Tony Kanal’s “Tragic Kingdom” bass Its in very good condition for its 35 years, some buckle pressure marks on the back and tarnishing to the gold hardware. Will come in a TKL padded Gibson Bag - and will have spare pickup surrounds and a few other golden yamaha bits. I’ll get some stick for listing this - and all those who’ll give me stick will know that I just don’t hang on to gear. wearing played in GHS boomers…still a bit of life left in them… collection is preferred, but I would ship at buyers risk and cost - I suspect due to value it might be about £45. £925 NYE price drop3 points

It doesn't happen nearly as often as I would like but, occasionally, there is an album that you listen to and, from the first beat to the last, it is special and you keep going back to it for inspiration, sometimes for decades. A few I can't get over are: Michel Camilo Big Band- Caribe - Anthony Jackson is on absolutely top form here. He is also massively impressive on Steve Kahn's live album 'The Suitcase' - a double live CD with Anthony Jackson on fire. Allan Holdsworth's 'Road Games' with Jeff Berlin ripping us all a new one. Jimmy Johnson on the first three Wayne Johnson Trio albums; Arrowhead, Grasshopper and Everybody's Painting Pictures Bruford's first three: Feels Good To Me, One Of A Kind and especially Gradually Going Tornado - Jeff Berlin at his finest but the production on the last one really works for the bass. Joni Mitchell 'Shadows and Light' - Jaco's finest moment? Possibly. But what about Pat Metheny's Bright Size Life. Marc Johnson's Bass Desires Dave Holland's Conference Of The Birds. Which are the albums you go to for bass inspiration?3 points

I am selling a very special (and quite rare) bass: an Ibanez GWB1005. It is the top of the game version of the Gary Willis fretless basses, made in Japan and currently sold first hand at 3999 euro (that's at least the cheapest price that I could find). These are the specs, as from the website of Musikproduktiv (https://www.musik-produktiv.com/gb/ibanez-gwb1005-ntf.html) : Ibanez GWB1005-NTF Body Shape: Soundgear Body Material: Swamp Ash Technology: Solid Body Colour / Finish: Natural Flat Neck construction: Bolt on neck Scale: Long scale Scale Length: 34" (864 mm) Neck: 3 piece Maple Fretboard: Ebony (*) Fretboard Inlays: Offset Dots and Lines Strings: 5-string Strings thickness ex factory: .045 - .135 Pickup type: Humbucker Bridge Pickup: Bartolini GWB Electronics: 2 Bd EQ Controls: 1x volume, bass/treble Hardware: Black Including: Hardcase & Accessoriy Set Special Features: removable finger support Country of Origin: Japan (*) I think it is ebonol in this one. Superb fretboard, in any case, and great tone. The bass is located in Bilbao (Sp), with original hardcase. A real treasure. The price is 2100 euro (1780 pounds as of today), nearly half the price you have to pay in the store. The weight of the bass is aprox. 3.5 Kg (ca. 7.8 pounds) I need to edit the ad to point out one thing: I had originally mentioned that it was in mint condition. That was indeed my memory. After checking it out I have found some mini scratches (barely three milimetres and barely visible) on top of the headstock and the usual marks on the back of the bass. Nothing spectacular, but the bass is, indeed, not mint after all. I have also been mentioned a "line" on top of the nut. It does have a narrow, thin line in there, I would say it is where the ebonol has been joined to the headstock, but I really can't tell. Or maybe it is a little line in the paint. Good detective work in finding it, in any case. It also has a hair inside of the hardcase and there are some specks of dust on the bass 🙄. In any case, there aren't any flaws in the nut, headstock or anywhere whatsoever in this bass. I own it, I have played it and it is, if not mint (which I can't say it is, of course, since it has some little marks), at the very least in very, very good condition. Best, Gorka3 points

I've got a bank lined up. It's next to a Library, which has very scant security and whose cellar is adjacent to the bank's main vault. So it's get all the drilling gear downstairs, a couple of hours on the coalface.. and I'm in.3 points

It's been a challenging year for many with COVID and Brexit but for most of us, we've made it through 2021 at least. Christmas isn't celebrated where I am so it's otherwise an unremarkable weekend and a normal working week until we get New Years Day off. But I'll be cooking Christmas lunch and in the evening our place will be deluged by 7 nine year olds from my son's class for dinner, along with their parents. Whatever you're doing, where ever you are, we hope you have a relaxing break, an opportunity to take a step back from the usual grind and enjoy some quality time with the ones you love. Merry Christmas from the BC Moderating team3 points

Unfortunately, my Christmas present did not make it in time. Ordered it from a shop in Germany but there were problems with obtaining export forms or something like that. Don't worry, I am not starting a rant about "you know what", but it is still a bummer. Well, will be my first bass of 2022 then 🙂3 points

Can I just say I buy and sell as many guitars as Andy and I’ve never really made a profit on them, but I have played and owned some lovely basses and met some lovely people. I’ve finally managed to offload them all and keep a core few that I genuinely love. As hobbies go, it’s not a bad one to have, is it?3 points

I've asked Guitar Guitar to weigh items for me before and to be fair, each store where they've had stock has come back with a weight relatively quickly.2 points

That's cool. I also play in two bands. Same members, however one offering is a 3 to 4 piece acoustic band. The other is a 4 piece electric blues rock band " Maple Road ". I've been really busy because the acoustic band is easier to book. Blue2 points

Anything Marshall. What with the pandemic lots of gear has made its way into pawn shops and onto EBay, so prices should be down. For instance: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255281994107?hash=item3b6ffe197b:g:aGUAAOSwNZ9humOJ2 points

Bought as “unused since the day it was bought”. Stands to reason its in 9.9/10 condition. One tiny mark on the back - I didn’t spot it so it may have happened in my ownership. I have swapped the bridge pickup for a Fender noiseless vintage model, when I surveyed others experiences of Aerodyne basses, the main comment was that the solo’ed bridge pickup was noisy. I also don’t feel much towards the stock chrome strat type knobs, so got some Fender pure vintage jazz knobs. All original parts will be in the deal - pickup was de-soldered at the pot, not just randomly hacked out… Also on the way is a padded fender bag as it came with the original box and nothing else… wearing brand new d’addario 45-100’s. I will include the (still ok) fender strings. Sounds warm, very clean. Collection is preferred as I’d hate a courier to have a pop at something so “new”. but shipping can be done at risk and cost. Sent a bass today £35 unsured in UK.2 points

Sly & The Family Stone - Fresh. "Jazz legend Miles Davis was so impressed by the song "In Time" from the album that he made his band listen to the track repeatedly for a full 30 minutes. Composer and music theorist Brian Eno cited Fresh as having heralded a shift in the history of recording, "where the rhythm instruments, particularly the bass drum and bass, suddenly [became] the important instruments in the mix." George Clinton, who has listed Fresh as one of his favorite albums, later convinced the Red Hot Chili Peppers to cover "If You Want Me to Stay" on their second 1985 album, the Clinton-produced Freaky Styley..."2 points

Anything by Uzeb or EST, but these are bands where the bass (Alain Caron) or double bass (Dan Berglund) is totally integrated in the composition process. And those extraordinary albums : Adfa by Jonas Hellborg, Bass Time by Offground Tag, Bestial Cluster by Mick Karn, Discipline by King Crimson, East West by Bill Frisell, Hejira by Joni Mitchell, Rebirth by Aka Moon, Space Ritual by Hawkwind, Trio in Tokyo by Michel Petrucciani, Upper Extremities by Bruford Levin, Voice by Hiromi, We get Requests by The Oscar Peterson Trio. And a lot more...2 points

Led Zep 1 made quite the impression on me as a youngster. Good Times, Bad Times and Dazed and Confused in particular are among the first times I could really hear the bass and apreciate it's role in the music, especially as unlike a lot of the 80s Rock/Metal stuff I was listening to at the time, it wasn't just doubling the guitar part. At least not all the time2 points

I do admit that many years ago Stanley Clarke was the thing for me with his first solo. And School days was special, too. Later on, I have fell in love with bassists who only play the right notes, sparingly. True: Gary Willis, Pekka Pohjola, and Niels-Henning Ørsted-Pedersen, they are all incredible, just like Marc Johnson and Bruford are mind blowing. Jimmy Johnson, Tom Kennedy, Marcus Miller, and many others are exceptional sidemen, but I am not impressed by their compositions. One thing is to support, and another is to lead. Sometimes pretty easy sounding bass line can be earth shaking, when the player knows the style and helps to make the song larger than life. I like Tommy Shannon with SRV, Free and Andy Fraser, Kraftwerk. I have no idea of the players of some old Schönberg and Händel recordings or who plays with Macy Gray, but the bands play like a dream. I love the feel, when several players turn to a collective, which creates magic. Specific records wanted: Edgar Meyer - Dreams of flight CAB 22 points
