Very happy with Santa’s delivery this year. I haven’t been able to spend much time with if yet. But so far I love it. The neck and tone are just what I wanted. I may switch the strings to flats in the future. I fancied trying a short scale and the Mustang bass was top of my list. I love the competition stripes and lake placid blue colour of this limited edition and am very happy that they came into stock in time for my Xmas hints to come to fruit. It’s subtly sparkly, which doesn’t come out in the photos.10 points

Sunburst and tort, B width neck, as far as I know original aside from a saddle screw (I have the original). Set up with flats by Andy Crockett. It came needing adjustment at the 15th fret as it had a dip, this was corrected by Andy. I can take picture of it in pieces if needed for those who are keen. Internals say pots are 66 & 67, neck is 71. I have a non original old case for it that I will include. Feel free to come down for a cuppa an give it a razz through my amp. I'd prefer you to try it out before the sale...7 points

Squier (Fender) Precision '57 RI '82 JV Series (Japan) with original white ánd Fender anodized pick guard. Sounds and plays fantastic: no buzz, very low action. Quote "Everybody came up to inspect them and the guys almost cried, because the Japanese product was so good - it was what we were having a hell of a time trying to do." Original Ampeg baby bass (mid sixties). Quite unique black one with an even more rare original ‘thigh rest’. New Bridge protector ordered at Ray Ramirez (not arrived yet). No issues. Plays and sounds perfect. The ultimate EUB for salsa and then some. Now strung with new Thomastik Spirocores (S43) tuned to EADG. Selling since I stick to bassguitars… well at least I tried!5 points

Sadowsky Metro Japan (2012) MV5 Will Lee. Alder body (I think, although ash should be standard), maple neck/board (I'm sure). Sadowsky pre amp with the Will Lee mid boost switchable narrow/wide and 500hz/800hz. 3900 grams only on a professional scale (non chambered!). Low action, no issues etc. 'Just' a perfect Sadowsky. Comes with original Sadowsky rectangular soft case. This one is from the time no graphite strips were used yet. Maybe I’m a kind of educated fool but I seem to like the sound and feel of these older ones best! Selling just because I am reducing my happy bunch of (Sadowsky) by selling the configurations I have twice or more...5 points

Now £1395 Sadowsky MV4E Metro Express, made in Japan in small numbers before Warwick got hold of Sadowsky. This is not to be confused with the new RSD Metro Express basses which are made in China to a very different price point. This is practically identical to the two Sadowsky Metro MV4 basses I've owned previously. As it's an MV4 it has a lightweight ash body, maple fingerboard and an ultra smooth feeling nitro-finished maple neck. The finish is a lovely metallic Sage Green. The Japanese ME basses seem to be universally lightweight, and this one is no exception at 7lb 13oz or 3.54kg. It's in great condition but does have a very small paint chip on the forearm contour, I'll try to highlight this in the pictures. It comes with the Sadowsky Porta bag, and tools etc.4 points

For sale is my immaculate 2021 Lakland Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ Ice Blue Metallic. It's a limited edition finish and is stunning. The neck is one of the best necks I've ever played. It has a lovely low action and weighs in at 9lbs 9oz (doesn't feel like it on the strap). It didn't come with a gigbag but I have a Fender deluxe gigbag I'll post it in. The sun hasn't gone down on Macari's quite yet, they have a shop in West Sussex. Keeping it running in the family.4 points

Yes. It will be fine. The issue with cabs / combos is that the bass notes push the speaker cone further than its designed to go. Amps themselves, especially pre-amps, no problems.4 points

Ok I need to point out the way my title has been misunderstood. I'm not saying I don't care if I catch Covid. I've spent most of December in bed, I've missed all my gigs because of it. So today I put two fingers up to the virus which has kept me under and I managed to gig . That's all I'm saying.4 points

Dude, Marcus was a major player already in 1978. Maybe not in the UK but in in the NY session scene. Where it mattered. In 1980 he was playing with Miles!! He did not come from nothing.3 points

The only beef I've had with Level 42 not being on the level is that time I had to return a misplaying copy of "Guaranteed", only to find that it certainly wasn't guaranteed. I could not get an exchange nor a refund. Then I realised the true colours of this situation, I'd be stuck with this coaster forever now.3 points

Either Core or Purple. Both are pretty good. For me Grunge was the end of hair metal which had just become a parody of itself. Grunge brought back the punk energy and mixed it with some dirty rock. It was the last great musical revolution and I'm not convinced we'll get another one. I'll make sure I watch this.3 points

Plan was no more buying of anything , double for anything bass related. Two things foiled the plan. 1. @Paul S posting his cracking Retrovibe 30" scale slab body P-bass 🙂 2. Wee Sis putting some cash in my card. While browsing for parts , Retrovibe is sold out leaving me no option bar build one, this turned up for £50. TBH the work involved turning this into a slab body is nuts , would be quicker and easier doing the body from scratch. Doing things from scratch is overrated 🤣3 points

To be fair, by '78 Marcus was already making a name for himself by touring and recording with people like Bobbi Humphrey and Lenny White, so I'm not sure that's all strictly true.3 points

@Bean9seventy : If you could type, because you are not writing at all, some clear well structured sentences, it would be very helpful as there is some really useful information in the coded messages. Deciphering these chaotic amount of words is quite tiring, even if it's interesting. Make an effort, be concise, precise and structured, which should be the case as you program drum lines, but doesn't seem that obvious. There's always a before for everything in the universe, but something can become a catalyst and Mark King was one of those, clearly using his jazz rock, that was not yet called fusion, roots and adding a very personal drumming style slap that was and still is really different from whatever you can hear when it comes to slap. That said his fingerstyle playing is really terrific too and too many people seem to forget it. He also knows Indian music a lot. If you were there at the beginning, as you seem to tell us, you certainly know that there was no singing intended, but that it was the triggering factor that really launched Level 42 and Mark King. Mark King also didn't know that the Gould brothers were excellent lyricists, but that's another story.3 points

17-11-70 - Elton John. Dee Murray just being brilliant. So - Peter Gabriel. Tony Levin’s finest album with PG? Maybe. You also get Larry Klein too. Robben Ford & The Blue Line - album of the same name. Roscoe Beck at his finest. No Parlez & Secret of Association - Paul Young. Pino slip sliding and inspiring untold numbers of bass players. Continuum - John Mayer. Pino showing his other side and you get Willie Weeks too! Crosby Stiils & Nash - CS&N. Steven Stills showing off his bass chops, as well as everything else. The Yes Album, Fragile, Close to the Edge - Yes. Chris Squire mixed up close and personal; the tone, the technique. Rush ‘80 - ‘93. My favourite era. Geddy, nuff said. Back to Oakland & Tower of Power - TOP. Rocco, again, nuff said. Props to @funkgod for mentioning The Peddlers. The Fantastic Peddlers was one of my late dad’s favourite albums and I was raised on it, regular weekend listening in my youth.3 points

I think it’s pretty clear (probably due to its main use?) that these AI colourisation tools are designed to focus on skin tones (reds, pinks and creams). Here’s a photo that I converted to B&W (left is photo before desaturation) then ran it through a number of recolour AI and they all clearly missed the mark on almost every colour…3 points

Here's me, brain the size of a planet, and I can't work it out either. Something about Santana teaching Mark King to play bass at Macari's under the guidance of the OP, or something.3 points

Most people who’ve been in the Spector or Musicman threads know I’ve been lusting for a Wal. There’s been arguments against, offered alternatives and arguments for, all of which I read and yay or nay that lust didn’t change. This wasn’t sudden GAS this has been going on for years, but failing to act and cheaper impulse buys stopped me. Lately the £5,000 - £10,000 (yes 9.9k on eBay) has started to see my dream bass slip further into just that, a dream. So, as with most of my purchases ‘it all happened so fast.’ I was searching the internet for “Wal for sale UK” and there it was, Bass Bros in Stratford upon Avon had a Wal Pro 1, Birds eye’s maple and not only that it was almost in my favourite colour ‘honey burst’ AND it had the single pickup at the Bridge end of the bass where it should be. (I love my stingrays and modulus FU) But and this was a heart dropping moment , it was passive with just a volume, tone and series/parallel switch… What the hell, a quick call to Will at Bass Bros and a chat about some gear I could part exchange had me promising to head down the next day (it was afternoon and late in the day I had things on) to: 1. Check the Wal out and 2. For him to check my gear out so I could haggle him up a bit more. I got as far as the kitchen and was suddenly back on the phone to him making arrangements to be on the road within the next hour… (now the GAS had hit home.) I took the Waza bass air with me as I didn’t think he’d have an all tube/Bag End setup and I’m familiar with how my other basses sound through the headphones. I played it cool when I arrived, there it was sat on a stand but I ignored it while we passed the usual pleasantries, until, finally the time had come. “Would you like to try it” It had flats on and the action was high for me but as soon as I plucked the first note a huge grin I couldn’t stop appeared. That Wal sound, punchy, loud, distinctive, beautiful. It took me less than a minute to know I was going to take this bass home with me and after Sterling service by Will an exchange of gear and some funds I was on my way home. Casting furtive glances in the rear view mirror at the Wal sat in its case, like it was some super model crossing and uncrossing her legs while she promised I was going to get some when I got to my destination those miles went by quickly. photos courtesy Bass Bros2 points

I didn't say that Marcus was a household name in '78 (or even now). What I'm saying is that his session career was well underway at that point, so wasn't unknown around the NY studio scene. I don't think it's fair to say he'd be unknown if it wasn't for a couple of guys in the London scene.2 points
