Hi, new to the Forum and was suggested I drop in here by a friend, Sadly its time to pass on my stunning Goodfellow bass as you can see is a beautiful example of the Harlequin bass 4 string, Like so many of you I first spotted these in A1 music in manchester and many years later acquired this bass from a friend, due to being a guitar Tech most of my adult Life Ive very rarely come home and wanted to play so its pretty much been an ornament ( a beautiful one at that ) so needs must and its time to pass it on. Ive never had reason to take the neck off so unsure of the serial number but can check on request, its both acoustically and electrically stunning as to be expected from Bernie's work, There are some small kinks along the edge which is normal for an instrument of this age but overall its mint, no major Fret wear or damage. Still feels and plays lovely, and sounds massive with a beautiful natural resonance due to a perfect neck/body join. The finish is just stunning in his aqua green colour of the incredible Harlequin veneer. A very rare and fantastic example of what for many of us was a dream bass back in the day and still is. Only selling due to house repair costs and will consider delivering by hand in the UK, shipping can be arranged for international buyers and UK and pick up is also fine. Shipping is on top of the £1200 asking pric. Please drop me a DM if you're interested Thanks for looking BG10.heic12 points

Hi there! Over the years I ordered many basses to many great luthiers. One of them was Mike Tobias. I met him in Frankfurt at the Musikmesse in 2015 or 2016 and I odered this MTD 535 bass being impressed by his basses and specially by wenge necks and fingerboard. Process ordering was really nice. He send me photos with 3 top woods to choose from, all of then really nice. My friend (Flavius) member here, also gave me an opinion on that time and I have chosen one I liked the most (see pic). So I got the bass in 2017 and since then I was playing only home because I also ordered in 2014 an Alleva Coppolo LG5 (jimmywood fingerboard) which was more suited to my music. So the bass is in mint condition comes with original hardcase, all original papers from Mike Tobias including "Sales Order". See specs in photos! Price 4000 euro + shipping, not negociable! No trades! SOLD!!!!7 points

Same. I recently changed all my gear to lightweight stuff, and at the same time put up for sale a 2x12 vox guitar amp that weighs about a thousand pounds because I never wanted to hump heavy stuff around again. The guitarist in my band bought it and it takes two people to carry. So that didn't work out as expected.7 points

Could someone end this thread and put it out of its misery. I’ve never met the OP but from his posts he doesn’t appear to be a vindictive soul just has a wry sense of humour and doesn’t take life too seriously.7 points

Way to blow a light hearted thread title way out of context.... This has nothing to do with banter and to link it to persecution of gingers, PTSD and mental health is to give it far too much credence. I was already thinking that most people in the UK are 'a bit dim'. This thread isn't changing my mind....7 points

Not offended. Just really bored with the whining that seems so prevalent in today's society. To be honest I'm not surprised you quoted me, and I normally wouldn't respond. You really are the walking embodiment of the playing chess with a pigeon analogy. I've never met anyone quite so keen on the clickety clack of their own little keyboard.6 points

Coldplay? I'd rather some kid with something interesting to say over a messed up Fruity Loops track got an award than that bunch, sure they can play, but what they play is so f*ck*ng bland. There will always be music we don't like, much of it new, but it's absolutely essential that kids get to play in the sandbox without us old b*st*rds telling them to keep it down.5 points

I'm going to guess absolutely f*** all, as in the present case, apart perhaps from the warm glow of superiority they get from having seized an imaginary piece of moral high ground.5 points

It is inspired by the Epiphone Coronet guitar and Newport bass seen to the gumbyesque body shape and pickguard, for sure. In terms of playability this is - dare I say - way better though. Here’s another pic of my bass from the Serek factory floor: It plays like a dream, weighs less than 3kg and sounds incredible. Another beast than my JMJ and P-bass. I highly recommend all short scale fans contemplating whether to purchase a slightly more expensive bass to order one (if low output thump is what you need)!5 points

This wasn't a planned purchase at all, saw it pop up - dribbled, worked out what I could sell and clicked order from Andertons 2nd hand section. Looks like a 2017 build, absolutely mint condition. I had a similar 2017 Euro 6LX for about 3 weeks I found in GuitarGuitar Birmingham 2 years ago, but had to sell at short notice due to life events (didn't lose any money at least). Having bought and sold quite a lot in that time, I always wanted it back but certainly didn't need a 6 string (Yamaha RBXJM2 covers that). So this popped up on my daily browse, I sent the link to my GAS Enablement Buddy (@AndyTravis) who agreed it should be procured immediately. No setup required, strings should be OK too - had about 30 mins on it so far, and it's great (obviously). Probably going to have to sell 2-3 to pay for it, but quality > quantity. Especially as this seems quite versatile.4 points

Hi All Edit, price drop to £1300, last chance before it goes to eBay or Reverb etc. I am not much of a poster but have lurked for many years and am a frequent flyer on various Wal forums and have a good eBay record. I bought this Stingray back in 2013 to scratch a (Pino) itch to see if I could get used to a fretless. Loved it and played it a fair bit but need 5 string really. Finally bought a 5 string this Christmas and despite being tempted to hang onto this I will not play it so it needs to find a new home. I bought it in Bristol from a pro player and it has some chips in the lacquer as the pics detail. Not a mint bass but in very good condition other than the chips and nothing noticeable from the front view. Amazing player and weight is around 9lb using bathroom scale technique. Very happy for you to come an try it out if you can get to NW London. I appreciate these are a little hard to find currently so I have priced according to what I see on Reverb and eBay etc. I will consider close offers. Serial number matches spec on EBMM database and i have not changed anything so I believe it is completely original.4 points

I've been more offended* by the barrage of tripe that has come out of shows like The X-Factor, American Idol or Britain's Got Another Identikit Pretty Boy Warbler over the last 20 years than any of the acts mentioned here so far. *offended as in 'felt ennui through repetitiveness' due to other TV shows/TV adverts/shops etc insisting that an anodyne tune by some chancer off of one of these Cowell-approved televisual banalities has to be playing loudly and intrusively whenever and wherever.4 points

The real crime was not getting it mixed properly, at last, for the 30th anniversary edition. They could have had a remastered disk with the original mix and a second disk with whoever giving it a decent mix. They could have righted a very big wrong but, rather spitefully, stick to their guns. They were wrong, they know it, and still refuse to acknowledge it. Those "with bass" albums, as far as I'm aware the only Newsted studio tracks which ever came out were the 4 or 5 on Guitar Hero, so there is no full album with Newsted on every track. Everything else is some dudes playing what they think the basslines are. The irony of "...and Justice For Jason" was that Newsted still couldn't be heard on it.4 points

Earbrass is right. Everyones prime goal in life is to be a victim. A multi millionaire tennis player tries to illegally enter a country, faces a few days trapped in a hotel room and he is the victim. Where's my sympathy? Katie Price gets tanked up on booze and drugs, flips her car and her defence is "I did it because I had some distressing news" ergo I am the victim. Where's my sympathy?4 points

Last of the routing on the bass and I've picked out the remaining white fillers from the worm holes. After a final sanding and oiling... The headstock is now shaped and the fretboard trimmed.. I can't fret it until I've fitted the dot markers that should look something like this...4 points

Discussions and healthy debate are fine and dandy, but some people seem to revel in laying into others. Also some people seem hung up on the literary definitions of words like rascism and xenophobia. Maybe while they have their dictionaries out they should look up sarcasm?4 points

When I had a small bass rig, I ended up carrying more of the Drums/PA in & out of venues. So I figured I may as well have a bigger rig4 points

SOLD Price Drop £425 With a set of "La Bella" Tapewound strings and set-up by Mansons guitar shop. One owner, gigged twice, and as I'm hardly playing any bass, let alone fretless, it's time to move this instrument on.. The current new price is around £600 pounds. Delivery at cost to buyer, or collection, and sent in a professional cardboard shipping shipping container. https://www.ibanez.com/eu/products/detail/srh500f_1p_05.html Sorry, no trades.4 points

No. I play everything on the same bass. IMO it's not worth trying to sound like your heroes. Chasing their tone and sound rarely works. Sound like you.4 points

For sale is an Ibanez headless (EHB) 1000 in Pearl White with Ibanez gig bag. Some additional bits and pieces like allen keys, straplocks also. The bass is in excellent cosmetic condition and has been carefully maintained The neat string clamp at the headstock means that you don't have to use double ball end strings, but can put whatever you want on it. Currently strung with roundwound LaBella, but I've used flatwound successfully as well. BT2 pickups, active electronics if you want to use them, otherwise it will work perfectly ok passive Some nice touches like a locking output jack, fully adjustable saddles so you can alter string spacing as well as adjust for correct intonation Very lightweight contoured body - a tad over 3kg Any questions please ask. Pickup from Uxbridge area preferred, but I'll package and courier it if necessary for £203 points

I find bland music most offensive. Dull, lifeless bland toss like Buble, Coldplay Will Young, James Blunt and just about everything else on Radio 2. Music is art and art should never be bland. At least music traditionally seen as offensive has something you remember after hearing it and at least it triggers some sort of emotion even if it's disgust. I feel my time has been wasted if I hear something which just leaves me bored.3 points

A little more work on the LP. Let the oil dry for a week or so and finally scuffed the top to 2000 grit then buffed using a drill mounted buffing set. It’s definitely better than it was and has a nice sheen but there are some slightly dull spots so I’m not 100% happy but for now I’m just going to build it and play it. I might try to buff it a bit more later on when the oil has had more of a chance to cure properly. Here’s how it looked last night.3 points

That's so incredibly sad. Some people, like the OP, don't or can't understand that certain words can affect someone and when they're exposed in that environment time and time again, it really hurts them. Bit of an old skool mentality, especially in this thread. A lot of boys (boys, not men) who try to pass off hurtful words as 'banter'. To me, banter is a way of covering up your own insecurities but trying to come off as the 'tough' one. Mental health is no joke. Would you tell anyone who has served in the armed forces and suffers from PTSD to 'man up'?3 points

I was wondering the same thing recently and it's surprising how much of a difference a few mm makes when you get up the dusty end. From what I understand, there's basically a couple of reasons why necks get wider. Neck stability - a neck that's wider at the body and tapers toward the nut will have a more even strain on the neck all the way along its length, whereas a straighter neck will put more strain on the neck where it joins the body. The amount of space strings need at different points of the neck - strings move/vibrate less nearer the nut/where they're fretted than they do further toward your plucking hand. If necks didn't get wider then strings may clatter together when you play them. I'm not sure if any bass has a parallel neck, but my Ric is the closest I've seen to it. I can't remember the exact measurements, but I think it only widens by about a cm from nut to 12th fret.3 points
