  1. **SOLD STP** Up for sale is my beautiful Yamaha TRB4 MkI with the "slapcut". This beauty was made in Japan in 1995. Killer tone and amazing build quality as you would expect from a Japanese Yamaha. The pre amp plenty of sonic variations including user presets that you dial in within the control cavity, and then you can switch between them using the middle pot. Controls are Vol, Blend, Treble, EQ, Bass. The EQ has 3 positions - 1st position = flat, 2nd pos = "EQ1 user definied", 2nd pos = " EQ2 user defined 2". Lovely balance and lightweight at only 3.5kg! Controls are volume, blend, tone, tone Overall the bass is in very good condition, especially for a 26 year old instrument. All of the electronics work perfectly, as does the truss rod and the hardware. The fretboard has been cleaned and oiled, the frets have been cleaned and polished. There are the usual dings but not too many(see photos). As well as some light corrosion on the neck bolts and tarnish on the gold hardware. One of the battery terminals was corroded but I have cleaned this thoroughly. BTW, the battery cover is not missing, I took it off to show the corrosion on the terminal. The bass will be shipped in a high quality gigbag, packed within a strong shipping carton. Shipping to UK £55, EU £25 - cheaper options are available if I detach the neck and the buyer reattaches it upon arrival....

  2. **price drop to 675GBP** Up for sale is my awesome and collectible Warwick Fortress One from 1993. Made in Germany, this is one of the very first ever to be produced as confirmed by Hans-Peter Wilfer (Warwick CEO). Overall the bass is in very good condition, especially for a 28 year old instrument. All of the electronics work perfectly, as does the truss rod and the hardware. The fretboard has been cleaned and oiled, the frets have been cleaned and polished. Lovely ergonomic and exceptionally well balanced bass - the best balancing Warwick by far thanks to the extra long upper horn. Nice and lightweight too at only 3.6kg! Controls are vol, blend, tone, tone The bass is not perfect though, there is some damage to the body as shown in the photos. The damage is NOT structural and is no cause for concern, it has been repaired and you wont notice it sonically or while playing. Also, the cavity cover is a little fiddly to take off but can be done - then again it is passive so you wont be needing to open it very often! The bass will be shipped in a Warwick gigbag, packed within a strong shipping carton. A generic hardcase can be added for a small surcharge. Shipping to UK £55, EU £25 - cheaper options are available if I detach the neck and the buyer reattaches it upon arrival.... 3. It's here! Lighter than I expected. Had to drop the action a bit (the 'specified action' in the manual is a joke!) Needs the nut cutting and slight truss rod tightening but I'll let it settle for a week first. No buzzes and the intonation was set spot on. No scaggy fret ends. Finish is flawless but i will have to take the pots off to remove the last of the sratchplate film - it's caught under the lovely little knob pointers. These are a great detail along with the lovely chunky strap buttons. Body is contoured and very rounded, just like the Coronet. Very bright stainless roundwounds. The blend control works backwards (IMHO). Tone control effective, apparently Epiphone use a custom potentiometer contour. Ridiculously loud output from the 'probuckers'. Real solid growly tone, just like the Thunderbird with probuckers, which is exactly what I was looking for. Neck is a bit of a baseball bat, again like the Thunderbird, but I like my basses to have different feels, that's how I justify having them all. Can't wait to add lemon oil and make the frets fall out. Main reaction - this is very, very different from my Fenders/Squiers.

  4. Yamaha Japan BB400S from the mid 80s. There is considerable buckle rash on the back but the neck and front of the bass are in great condition for the age. It had a set of EMGs installed in the 80s by the original owner and it sounds great. Includes the original flight case with purest green lining.

  5. No, I do that because I now live openly as a queer and trans person, and I'm painfully conscious of the danger posed to myself and my peers by the real harm done by the language and conduct of others.

  7. I got the burly bass finished. Well, apart from one gold knob. Wood covers worked out well but I may change the pickups and preamp. EMGs need to be super close to the strings compared to other pickups, and having a wood cover, albeit 1.5mm, I feel this hinders the clearance required. The custom preamp pots have values that are specific to EMG, which is why that may need to be swapped out. It’s all good fun though!

  8. Sorry, but its still offensive, still harmful, and still homophobic. I'm in a glass house on this one, as I grew up using gay as a pejorative word, and throwing around homophobic abuse excused as "banter". But I was also in the closet, and deeply ashamed, and that kept me from being who I really was for the best part of 40 years. Banter isn't an excuse, and just because you don't think anyone listening will be offended is not a good enough reason to espouse offensive views, even in jest. Not when it's about punching down at marginalised groups.

  9. Offensive metal lyrics is just art and theatre. Nothing more. Don't overthink it, it means nothing. It's just music. Slayer's Sex Murder Art is up there with the Cannibal Corpse stuff for offensiveness: "Take my fist and violate every orifice" Well! I thought you'd never ask 😍

  14. @Merton so this is what made me end up on the naughty step. It's a 2015 Thunderbird with the coil taps. It's in super condition and I managed to get hold of it for a good price. It came strung with completely dead high tension flat wounds and was set up a mile high. It's now got round wounds on it and the action is very low. Goodness knows when I'll ever use it but it was too shiny to resist

  16. When people of African ancestry use that term it is not an ethnic slur. Obviously it has different connotations if a white guy said it, no matter how it's spelt or pronounced there is a metric ton of historical reasons why it is inappropriate. Hopefully 2023 will be the year that the basschat dad brigade no longer need this explaining to them, I ain't counting on it but we can all live in hope.

  20. If you have hit 60 with just a few minor niggles to your back and shoulders then good luck to you. Not being able to lift 20kg cabs has in many cases absolutely nothing to do with 'hitting the gym'. Certainy in my case. For most of my adult life I used to go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week. In my late 40s I used to bench press 100 kg for reps and 200kgs squats for reps which didn't qualify me as superman but meant I was fairly strong. I am now 64, have been nursing a prolapsed disc for some years and, on some mornings, struggle to put my socks on. Rather than lift weights I do core exercise and yoga stretches every day. I also walk. I can and do lift the 22kg pa bins without a problem. Getting them into just the right position in the car is sometimes a struggle. As is getting them up and down stairs. Because, for me, a slight twist in the wrong direction whilst carrying them means I am on the bench for a fortnight. But like so many on here you seem keen to be scornful over things that are different to your own experience. Please consider that there other situations and viewpoints.

  21. **further price drop to 375GBP** Up for sale is a nice vintage high-end Ibanez from the late 80s. Research indicates the model number is SR800LE and the serial number reveals it was made at the legendary FujiGen factory around 1987/88. Features: Offset double cutaway basswood body, bolt-on three-piece maple neck, 24-fret rosewoood fingerboard w/pearl dot inlays, Gotoh tuners, AccuCast B20 bridge, one Lo-Z J-style and P-style Ibanez pickups, volume/blend/ bass and treble EQ controls, black hardware. Overall the bass is in very good condition, especially for a 34 year old instrument! All of the electronics work perfectly, as does the truss rod and the hardware - there is some minor damage to the bridge under the saddle for the e-string though - this shouldnt present a problem though as the saddle is set in the correct position for intonation so no need to move it. There are a few dings - see photos. The fretboard has been cleaned and oiled, the frets have been cleaned and polished. Lovely ergonomic and well balanced bass. Nice and lightweight too at only 3.6kg! The bass will be shipped in a Warwick gigbag, packed within a strong shipping carton. A generic hardcase can be added for a small surcharge. Shipping to UK £55, EU £25 - cheaper options are available if I detach the neck and the buyer reattaches it upon arrival....

  23. Hi there! Over the years I ordered many basses to many great luthiers. One of them was Mike Tobias. I met him in Frankfurt at the Musikmesse in 2015 or 2016 and I odered this MTD 535 bass being impressed by his basses and specially by wenge necks and fingerboard. Process ordering was really nice. He send me photos with 3 top woods to choose from, all of then really nice. My friend (Flavius) member here, also gave me an opinion on that time and I have chosen one I liked the most (see pic). So I got the bass in 2017 and since then I was playing only home because I also ordered in 2014 an Alleva Coppolo LG5 (jimmywood fingerboard) which was more suited to my music. So the bass is in mint condition comes with original hardcase, all original papers from Mike Tobias including "Sales Order". See specs in photos! Price 4000 euro + shipping, not negociable! No trades! SOLD!!!!

  24. Hi, new to the Forum and was suggested I drop in here by a friend, Sadly its time to pass on my stunning Goodfellow bass as you can see is a beautiful example of the Harlequin bass 4 string, Like so many of you I first spotted these in A1 music in manchester and many years later acquired this bass from a friend, due to being a guitar Tech most of my adult Life Ive very rarely come home and wanted to play so its pretty much been an ornament ( a beautiful one at that ) so needs must and its time to pass it on. Ive never had reason to take the neck off so unsure of the serial number but can check on request, its both acoustically and electrically stunning as to be expected from Bernie's work, There are some small kinks along the edge which is normal for an instrument of this age but overall its mint, no major Fret wear or damage. Still feels and plays lovely, and sounds massive with a beautiful natural resonance due to a perfect neck/body join. The finish is just stunning in his aqua green colour of the incredible Harlequin veneer. A very rare and fantastic example of what for many of us was a dream bass back in the day and still is. Only selling due to house repair costs and will consider delivering by hand in the UK, shipping can be arranged for international buyers and UK and pick up is also fine. Shipping is on top of the £1200 asking pric. Please drop me a DM if you're interested Thanks for looking BG10.heic

  29. A few points: Its the Sound of 2022, not young musician of the year. Hopefully the sound of 2022 isnt 70's rock, I'd rather listen to 70's rock but its not Jonny's sound of 2022 either... Just because she chooses to use samples as a medium how do you know she cant play an instrument? She could be the best viola player on the planet but just likes working with loops and samples, which has been done in some form since around the time Leo invented his P bass to be honest.

  30. It's an odd one, this. Purely with reference to the title of this thread, I often hear our American cousins take the mick* out of the British for having shonky teeth. Should we be outraged at that, and create tension and angst that wasn't there before, or just smile knowingly and move on, or get right back at them with a light-hearted reference to their mad** gun laws? My point is, it's nuanced, and I'm worried that we're judging all instances with the same criteria. *Apologies to all Micks who may be offended by this lazy reference.*** **Apologies to all genuinely mad people who may be offended by this lazy reference. ***Just remembered - I'm a mick. I'm outraged at myself.

  35. Well, I finally got it all together, strung it up and played it. It needs some work as far as setup and intonation go, but so far it feels good and it makes nice sounds. In my haste I realized I fitted the bridge pickup upside down and so it’s slanted the wrong way and thus very quiet… oops 😅 One other thing I’m thinking of doing is fitting some dot inlays on the fretboard, mostly because I like the look of them over a blank fretboard. I’ll try to get some nice photos of it when I have some decent daylight, but these will do for now

I've been more offended* by the barrage of tripe that has come out of shows like The X-Factor, American Idol or Britain's Got Another Identikit Pretty Boy Warbler over the last 20 years than any of the acts mentioned here so far. *offended as in 'felt ennui through repetitiveness' due to other TV shows/TV adverts/shops etc insisting that an anodyne tune by some chancer off of one of these Cowell-approved televisual banalities has to be playing loudly and intrusively whenever and wherever.

  40. Context is, in fact, not everything. Language is designed in such a way that words do have exact meanings, which are consistent. You can quote context to say that yellow is green, but would, in fact, be inaccurate. Woke culture suggests that words, facts, etc are subject to contextually based definitions. Many of us would disagree. Also, consider taking all of this conversation a bit less seriously....... please.....

  43. Although I'm a Londoner, the last few years I've been living in a little place called Canvey Island. I believe Eddy and the Hot Rods were a Canvey band. Dr Feelgood were another Canvey band. In fact, the original Bass player (John Sparks?) is a tradesman down here. He did some work on my roof over a couple of days. When he noticed I had a small studio and was a Bassist myself, we had quite an amusing chat. 😁 I do remember going around to his house to pay the bill, when he showed me quite an old Fender P Bass he was thinking of unloading on eBay. 😁

  44. My understanding is that NS supply an endpin if you're not too happy with the (rather ugly!) tripod. I think it has to come from NS because I can't see how you could attach a normal endpin to the upright bass (I've got one right here) without some kind of huge kludge. Although I hate the look of the tripod, I find it immensely comfortable and easy to use. Switching to a 'normal' endpin would look cooler, but also give me trouble in keeping the correct distance from the bass, as it doesn't have a spacing bracket. The advantage of a full-size acoustic DB is that you can't possibly hold it too close to your body and get your plucking elbow and your wrists into trouble by using the wrong technique. That, however, is a risk in a 'stick' upright, and you should keep that in mind at all times.

  45. I remember an interview with Geezer Butler where he described his occult themed lyrics as being no different to a horror film. I think that's a good description. You can't have crushingly heavy music and lyrics about how lovely roses smell o a summer day. Summer Breeze by Type O Negative is a bit of an exception to this.

There will always be music we don't like, much of it new, but it's absolutely essential that kids get to play in the sandbox without us old b*st*rds telling them to keep it down.
