For sale is my Wal MkII 5-string in a black gloss finish with gold hardware and an ebony fingerboard. Made in 1991, it's in excellent condition despite the fact it's now approaching its 31st birthday, the only significant wear and tear in three decades being a chip out of the poly finish on the very tip of the headstock. It's sporting a custom scratchplate that Kim at Charlie Chandlers made for it, but I understand it's held in place by the truss rod 'boat', so can be removed. Kim also did a full refret and PLEK last year, and it plays like a dream. A new set of D'Addario EXL-170 nickels have just been fitted. The tuners were replaced with Schaller M4S lightweights, but the original Schaller tuners are also included in the sale. At 4.9kg, it's not too heavy as Wals go, and balances very well on the knee or a strap. It comes complete with the original blue/grey case, fully functional with all catches working, and it even has a key! If you look closely you should be able to see the metal-handled allen key that the earliest Wals came with also in the case, although this originated from an older MkII I owned a few years ago. I'm not too keen to ship it for obvious reasons, so collection is preferred, but I can box it up securely and ship it (fully insured) at the buyer's cost and risk if picking it up is not possible. I got some rough costs from UPS for this, and within the UK would be approximately £125, USA and elsewhere £250+ (plus import duties and taxes payable in the destination country). Sorry, but no trade offers please. NOW SOLD.19 points

Bought this from @LouieM last summer. Definitely didn't need it, didn't really like the colour but I"ve always fancied this style of P-bass and the extra neck pickup was too much for me to resist. I've never played a bass with such light strings before and liked it more than I thought, who knew string bends could be so easy! Anyway, after a while I decided that even though I didn't want to buy any more basses I really fancied something flamboyant. I looked round one day and saw this white one in the corner and the rest is history. Just got it back from Toby Diggins (T-Dog Customs) and he's done a stunning job. I've also upgraded it to a Ric-O-Sound type stereo arrangement courtesy of a push-pull volume pot, just for fun. Might change the scratchplate at some point but the black works better than I thought. Also don't fancy cutting a neck pickup hole out of a replacement 'plate!9 points

For sale is my Steinberger XL-2 from 1986, in great condition. Other than a few small scratches on the rear of the tip of the neck, there are no significant marks, no chips or dings in the finish, and negligible fret wear. It's been upgraded with Zen-On bridge saddles and an EMG BTC circuit with 2-band EQ by a previous owner. These basses are starting to get very rare, and especially in as good condition as this one. It comes complete with the original gig bag, and a non-original strap and brass string adapter to allow the use of standard strings. Collection is preferred, but I can box it up securely and ship it at the buyer's expense if that's not possible. Sorry, but no trade offers please. NOW SOLD5 points

*NOW TRADED* Picked this up almost 2 years ago, here's the original post for some extra pictures: I'm now unfortunately in a very similar situation to Chris in that I've loved the sound but about a month after I picked this up, I injured my back and now the weight is a bit much to be lugging around! I've used this for mainly rehearsing with a few bands and a couple of gigs. It's easily kept up with a loud band with plenty more to give. I'd rather not ship it, but I'm happy to drive to meet people within reason. Trade offers welcome via PM - I'm looking replacement lightweight combo (or a separate cab and head) or I'd consider a short scale bass (either option with cash either way). Weight is just over 25kg.4 points

Divest that notion. It's the rare cab that can make use of more than half its rated thermal input power before running out of the mechanical ability to use it, so the oft mentioned quest of 'getting all the watts out of my amp' is right up there with the search for the Holy Grail or an honest politician of things not worth the effort.4 points

2x10 Bass/Guitar speaker - High Quality, Powerful, Lightweight, Robust, Cool! 600w rms power handling, from 2 Celestion neodymium speakers. 2 Speakon/jack connectors. 13.4kg. 61cm high x 48cm deep x 35cm wide. Measurements taken with front cover on. Rear ported. Built into an Aluminium flight case, with a removable front cover. I have used this with both bass and guitar. It sounds really good. A great replacement for something larger and heavier such as a 4x12! Also good if you are doing lots of gigging, and so heaving things in and out of vans, where a normal speaker might get damaged. Very good condition, fully working. You can see it and try it if you visit me in Sandbach (but not turn it up fully) Made by Scott Dixon, see: https://www.scottdixoninc.com/webshop/speaker-cabs/2x10-600w-bass-or-guitar-cabinet-rear-ported/ Retails new at almost £700. I am selling because I don't gig any more and so this is total overkill for home recording use. Collection only from Sandbach, Cheshire - no postage.4 points

I hope nobody is pinning hopes on Paypal changing a policy that they clearly define in the T&C just because a bunch of well intentioned people were scammed on an online marketplace. That's not to have a pop at anyone but Paypal make it simple; it's free to send money to friends and family (with no protection) OR you send money for purchases which has a charge (and there is insurance). Oddly enough I've sold stuff on here and on FB and I don't accept Paypal in any form from a newbie as it is open to abuse against me. If someone dealing with me doesn't want to do their research on my honesty and history and pay by BACS that is absolutely fine and no hard feelings.4 points

Sold the SG to a dad buying it for his kid for $250. That’s a profit of $185 towards my house/car repair fund and a hopefully happy kid with a nice guitar. Win/win.4 points

Bit of a mysterious one as I have no progress pics (as of yet), but stuck this here as an eventual (near future!) build diary for my next project. I've owned and played all sorts of less conventional basses, but I've never owned a passive 4 string J or P bass. So I've decided that's what I'm going to build for myself next! Leaning towards jazz at the moment, but that may change the closer I get to pickup routing. Got all the wood stacked in the spare room - gone slightly less conventional with wood choices, tried to use local where I can. So at the moment, it's going to be 34" scale 4 string with: English cherry body English rippled pear wood top English ash/English sycamore laminated neck Quartersawn English oak fretboard Updates to come in the near future!3 points

NOW SOLD For sale is my Steinberger Synapse 5-string, which was converted to a lined fretless by a previous owner. As nice a bass as this is, I've come to realise that a fretless is wasted on me, so I've decided to move it on. It's light and very easy to play, with a great array of tones from the EMG magnetic pickup that can be blended with the piezo pickups under the bridge saddle, and an active 2-band EQ. Despite the slightly odd appearance of the strap 'hook', it's really well balanced and very comfortable on a strap or on the knee. A couple of the built-in standard string screw anchors at the end of the neck had failed, so I removed them and fitted an adapter for using single ball strings. Double ball end strings can still be used via the keyhole slots in the headpiece. It's just had a new set of D'Addario EXL170 nickels fitted, and also included are a set of double ball end flatwounds that were on it when I first got the bass.3 points

Just seen something I want on this very forum, and it needs funds! What's good: Bartolinis, slim straight neck, very usable preamp with mids switch, light as a a feather. What's bad: the body finish is rubbish. It came to me damaged, and I have probably made it slightly worse by touching it up. An invisible repair from about 400 yards, maybe! With this in mind I hope the price is realistic.3 points

I had my first band practice with my new Euro 4LX, last week, and you're right! cut through beautifully, and has a really bright modern tone, but with plenty of depth. My band mates loved it, and out keyboard player (who is also a great Bassist) now wants one 😂 It doesn't do warm P tones though,so brought a P as well 😁3 points

I also "purchased" the Reel Echo and a Boss Chorus, he was good with the chat but didn't want to know when I offered to do Paypal business plus extra to cover fee or direct into bank account . Yet he offered tracked postage for friends and family Paypal. That should have warned me ! Paypal don't want to know as it's Friends and Family but if the Police get involved they may have to. Bit wary of posting too much on open forum, but am taking PM's as if can gather a list of those scammed.3 points

For sale is my superb Ibanez EHB1505MS Headless 5 String Bass with fanned frets. The finish is Pacific Blue Burst Flat. I've had this less than three weeks, so it is in excellent overall condition and comes with gig bag, ramp, accessories and original box. The only reason I'm selling it is because as easy as it is to play a multi-scale fanned fret bass, I struggle playing it while singing. The finish is stunning and the Poplar Burl top isn't covered in heavy lacquer, so the burl in the wood and imperfections in the wood are clearly visible and tangible and with the flat matte finish, it really sets the top of beautifully. The bass is wired with a super set of Nordstrand pickups and the array of sounds that can be achieved are great. The 35"scale on the B String is (for me) far more comfortable than the longer scale on (say) a Dingwall. There is one visible mark to note and that is a very small dent in the back of the body that was there when it arrived. The finish is very thin though and designed to show imperfections, so I'm being really picky. These are hard to get hold of at the moment, with lead times that appear to be increasing. Specs: 5-String Multiscale Electric Bass Body: Mahogany Top: Poplar burl Bolt-on 9-piece neck: Pangapanga / Walnut Fretboard: Pangapanga Abalone Offset Dot fretboard inlays Fretboard radius: 500 mm (19.69") Scale: (min.) 838 mm (32.99") - (max.) 889 mm (35") Nut width: 45 mm (1.77") Plastic nut 24 Medium frets Pickups: 2 Nordstrand Custom Big Split (bridge and neck) Electronics: Varimid 3-band EQ Controls: Volume, Balancer, Bass, Middle, Treble, Varimid EQ bypass switch MR5HS bridge Ibanez custom headpieces machine heads Black hardware Strings: D’Addario EXL1705SL Colour: Pacific Blue Burst Flat Includes Schaller S-Locks and gigbag This model retails at over £1,300 at the moment if you can find one. This one is in super condition and available immediately for a good saving. Price drop to £1,100 inc. postage.2 points

Maybe it's because the CMD121P combo might be Markbass biggest seller but the majority of these tales relate to that particular product. In fact the only Markbass product that broke down on me was the combo 2 head in my CMD121P. I have a suspicion that vibration of the head in its vertical orientation may subject certain components (or solder joints) to unforeseen stresses. Mine suffered a cracked solder joint on the speaker output connector and latterly a failed pre amp board.2 points

Hi all, I'm selling my Human Base Roxy B5 to make space for an incoming Maruszczyk, so I need to free up some funds! This is a lovely, resonant, and surprisingly versatile bass! The pickup switching and EQ is really powerful and it's pretty hard to get a bad sound. The low B is solid and strong. This is a pretty reluctant sale and will be sorely missed! - Swamp Ash Body - Maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard - 24 frets and 34" scale - Nut width 45 mm - Highly adjustable string spacing at the bridge (can go from just under 17mm to just over 19mm) - Delano Xtender pickup - Series/parallel/single coil switch - Active Glockenklang 3-Band Preamp (treble knob is tone control in passive mode) - zero-fret - Gotoh 350 res-o-lite tuners - 4kg (8.8 lbs) on my luggage scales with great balance seated or on a strap The condition is pretty good, there are some minor scratches on the pickguard and a little buckle rash on the back, but it's hard to see due to the finish. Comes with a padded Human Base gig bag. I'm looking for £750 inc. UK postage. Happy to drive up to an hour away from Leeds to meet a potential buyer. Let me know if you have any questions.2 points

When I moved to BEAD I spent some time messing around with different strings and guages. With the help of the D'Addario guy that was on here and their tension charts I ended up with 110-90-75-55 D'Addario Chromes (so flats which might not be any good). They play and sound fine even though they are noticeably 'relaxed'.2 points

My new board for 2022. EBS Octobass into TC Electronic Spectracomp into Ashdown OriginAL (with cheap as chips tuner in parallel out). I just, today actually, got the Spectracomp, so I think I'm set for the first time in a long, long time. I've fluctuated between smallish to largish boards over the last 15 or so years, and last year I went right down to a Fender Downtown Express....but I love the Ashdown sound so much and now with the final piece being the TCE, I'm happy. Famous lasts words, and all that sort of thing hahahaha2 points

[quote] A Message from Andy McCluskey of OMD (previously Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark ) Andy recently wrote to me about his experiences with his first guitar, a Wilson Rapier Bass : " Hi Reg, I have just visited your fantastic website. Don't know why I never checked it out before. I was having a discussion today with someone in my studio about why I play bass with the strings upside down even though I am right handed. I told them that it was because my first bass was a left handed Wilson Rapier that I bought in a second hand shop in Birkenhead in 1975. It was the only one I could afford ( I was 16 at the time). It cost me £32. I was trying to describe it.. Bright red/ long scale/ giant headstock looking unlike any modern bass. I typed Wilson Rapier into a search engine and there was your site! My bass looked like a red version of the black one at the bottom of your bass page. I played it for four years, recorded my first single with it. "Electricity" on Factory records. I was in "Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark' (later called OMD). And then at our first gig in London in 1979 at the Aklam Hall some bugger stole it from the dressing room. I could not find another like it so I've played a Fender Jazz (right hand strung upside down) ever since.. I guess I liked it because it's narrow neck reminded me of the Rapier. Maybe one day I will find another one for sale. ( he did - I sold him one of mine!!...) Keep up the good work. All the best.. One of the things I love about playing in church is the randomness of everything, on Sunday I played bass and sang lead vocal for three songs, at the end of the service I switched to acoustic guitar and performed a duet with an 80 year old Columbian woman that had expressed the desire to sing with me, she stands at 4'5" and I'm 6'3", we sang `Holy Are You Lord' and whilst she knew the words and can sing in key, she had no idea of timing.......and I mean NO IDEA !!! By the time I had got to the end of line 2, she was already singing the start of line 4 so I had to stop singing and concentrate on my playing, to adjust it so it fitted with where she was in the song. I then realised that she wasn't even in time with herself and wasn't actually singing at one consistent speed. At the end, someone described it as "the funniest thing they had ever seen".2 points

Probably new folks signing up and reading old threads, then commenting on them. Perhaps they searched for something, found their result and commented on it, rather than start a new thread to ask their question and then be told to 'do a search', then search, find their answer and comment on it, resulting in a zombie thread revival anyway.2 points
