For sale is a stunning American Pro II P Bass from 2021 in Miami Blue. It's in mint condition and comes with the original pickguard plus a WD Music black pickguard. It plays beautifully with a lovely low action. The bass comes with the original Fender case plus all accessories and tags. It weighs in a lovely 9lbs dead according to our digital kitchen scales. It's a really difficult colour to photograph and is actually more of a dark turquoise in the flesh. Either way, it's lovely. I've not had this too long but now I've started gigging again I'm likely to be using my G&Ls or my SR5, so sadly this won't get much use and it will sit there gathering dust. I'm looking for £1,250 delivered although I'd rather this was picked up or handed over within an hour of Monmouth. No trades please16 points

SOLD Putting this bass back up for sale/part-ex, as incredible as it is, I realistically don't need more than two Precision’s haha. Price is: SOLD Open to trades or part-ex’s, 4 strings, would primarily love a Guild Starfire II, but potentially open to Spectors (but only dark/black gloss) or Kala U-Bass. No maple fingerboards or probably any sunburst, or anything weighing much over 9lbs. The MVP is 'As new' condition, as well as coming with a fantastic Access Stage 3 gig bag which are an extra cost as standard (seriously, these are Mono beaters.....and I love Mono cases), and beautifully set up with La Bella Black Tape Nylon strings (another £50 value there). I can take off £75 if you don't want the case, which can be seen here: https://modernvintageguitars.com/modern-vintage-shop/access-stage-3-deluxe-gig-bag-for-bass-guitar/ I would prefer collection/meet-up, however we can discuss shipping at your cost/risk, only if you're having the gigbag too however, for shipping safety. In any case, details are: •Heat Treated (torrefied/roasted) Maple Neck •Matching Shell Pink Headstock •Indian Rosewood Fingerboard (this example is very dark and resembles Brazilian rosewood, really beautiful fingerboard) •43mm Nut width •Clay dots •Licensed Hipshot Tuners •‘Vintage Voiced’ Pickup •Steel Bridge Saddles •Period Correct Alder Body •3-ply Pickguard •Weight: 8.4lbs Sound clips available on request Cheers Si13 points

Got this lovely Fender Reggie Hamilton 5er from a nice guy in Austria! They seem quite rare and black especially but I’ve been after a 5 string PJ bass for a while. Not sure about the tortoiseshell pickguard, so I’ve asked “Tiny Tone” to do a 3 ply black one (BWB). First impressions are that the tonal versatility is huge! Using the P pickup in isolation and you’d be hard pressed not to think it was a P Bass and blending in the J gives a more balanced/modern tone. It sounds equally good in passive mode which is selected via a push button. Oh and it only weighs 3.7kg!!! I’ll take some better pics when the pickguard returns, but meanwhile here’s a quick one next to my Shuker! any other Reggie Hamilton owners out there…..?6 points

Or 6500€ Alembic Mark King Signature Deluxe 5 string with LED Bass is from December 2015. Spec as follows: 34" - 24 fret - 19 mm string spacing. Neck of Maple and Purple Heart Ebony fingerboard with Abalone inlays Mahogny body with laminated Maple & Purple Heart Cocobole top and back Weight: 5.7 kg - sounds alot but if you can carry an old Musicman or Fender Roscoe Beck/ Warwick Thumb / Peavey T40 you`re fine. Approx. 1kg of this is actually due to the 4 ea. 9v batteries for the Led`s and the brass covers on the rear. Sure you can get a Luthier to make something lighter if required, or get Alembic to make wooden covers (known option). Volume, blend, 2x filters with Q switches. Leds in the neck with switch 95% as new with only slight discoloration of parts of the brass bridge Original case in as new condition Latest list price: 18.000 USD, Add import Tax and VAT on top of that to get it into Europe/UK. Instruments from this brand provides a truely unique life experience of "Before & After". Before - you may wonder what the fuzz is about and whether they are really worth the money. After - all that's left to say is a capital YES! The closest thing to a Steinway Grand Piano I have ever heard from a bass in terms of evenness in volume across the neck, clarity and complexity of the note in which the different wood, strings, hardware and plugging technique all blend into a note that rings with authority, and forever. And an Alembic is not only about a treble hifi sound. It can sound equally powerful like the voice of God with a bad hangover. How this bass sounds: https://youtu.be/i0OCKOeYO3c Selling as I play way too little to have something as this just resting in its case. I can take a 5 string bass in trade plus money. Shipping will likely be expensive due to insurance. For those living in central Europe, I'm willing to meet somewhere in germany for a personal handover which is included in the price (deposit required). Pictures by previous owner used with permission. Regards Thomas What's App: +45 61209520 mail: [email protected]6 points

For sale only: Fender Custom Shop Sean Hurley '61 Precision (2019), £2750 This is my second Fender Custom Shop Sean Hurley signature ’61 precision - I had sold my first one (in charcoal frost) to the mighty @Old Man Riva , who had prophetically wondered if I was sure - as I would miss it! Indeed Mick was right, and so when this one appeared secondhand at Bass Direct I snapped it up. Specs and condition It has a slab rosewood board, 1.75” nut width, 7.25” radius. Weight is 3.98kg. Full specs in the 'floorwalker' photo below. Relic-ing is on the back of the neck only, meaning it’s beautifully smooth and fast. The nitro finish on the body has some level faint ‘crackle’ lines but is otherwise un-reliced. Strangely when it arrived from Bass Direct the rocker mute was on the wrong way around (!), which has left a faint mark I’ve tried to capture in the photo - not noticeable unless you look closely. The rocker mute is a nice feature to toggle between muted/unmuted quickly, and is adjustable in terms of pressure applied to the strings. Personally I’ve left it ‘firmly on mute’ recently as I’ve been practicing Jamerson lines. I love the playability with the stock La Bella light flats, and it pairs beautifully with my Noble pre. Case has a couple of scuffs (see pics), but otherwise in excellent condition with keys and case candy including unworn Fender strap. A splendid bass, but having picked up a gorgeous Marleaux sixer for solo playing, and not gigging, it must make way! And yes, I will miss it Courier delivery (UK only) @£15, or come and test in Kent (approx, 20 min from J5 M25, near to Tonbridge/Maidstone). Payment by BACS or PayPal (buyer pays fees) My feedback thread: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/235157-kevsy71/ Pics Some demos of this general model - they sound very simlar to mine (except the playing!) A nice 'unmuted test': The man himself (with mute) …and without And a comprehensive test from Bruno Tauzin’s excellent “Bruno Bass” You Tube channel:6 points

A somewhat fleeting offering of my 2018 Music Man Stingray Special H 4 string. A bass has come up on here that I'm extremely keen on, this will be withdrawn on the sale of that. Absolutely no cash or trade offers. So this is a stunning example of the new StingRay Special basses, bought from Bass Direct used a few months ago. Early special so still has the lightweight swamp ash body (believe the newer models are heavier and "select hardwood" now) so is a lovely 8.5lb The finish is just incredible and not easy to come across now. The bass comes with a matte black guard as well as the standard stock b/w/b. Its also fitted with a matching D Tuner. Bass Direct ad and pics below. More available on request: Remains in the same condition as bought in, usual swirls on pickguards but thats about it. Comes with the Music Man hardcase and original E tuning key (machine only), fitted with Optima Gold Strings, which look rather splendid. I won't post this, happy to drive a reasonable distance to meet up. Generally trying to avoid house visits/collections at the mo due to Covid and vulnerable household members, so dodgy service station meet ideal. As mentioned, its only going to be available whilst the target bass is available, so recommend you act quickly if you want it5 points

Stunning 20th av Stingray for sale. This one has beautifully rich quilted maple top with a Birdseye maple neck that is to die for. Neck is quite shallow in profile and the satin finish makes it lightening fast to get around. Overall condition is very good. Plays perfectly and buzz free with low action. Frets are perfect as are all electronics. Condition is great. It’s been very well looked after. No nicks or anything through the finish. I think a tiny mark was touched up on the back (see pic 5, just below neck plate)and possibly another on the lower bout. This work was done by a professional. The bout is perfect with no sign of ever being nicked but there is a hint of gold in the undercoat on one tiny area. You can see this in pic 6. Only other point of note is a 1 cm line in the outer lacquer under the neck joint (barely visible pic 9) These things are so minor that I’m not sure did it come from the factory like this or as I said “touched up by a pro” It comes with the original Musicman case which is perfect except for a crack in one of the corners. Weight is about average at 9.4lbs This is one of the best examples I’ve seen of these now rare basses. Note: some of the pictures make it seem lighter in colour than it actually is. I can deliver this in person to London for £50 extra this eliminates customs and import taxes Thanksi4 points

My lovely Special is now up for sale as since I’ve had my 74 P I’ve barely touched it and it’s way too good to be a wall decoration. I’ve had the bass from new in late 2018. For full disclosure the body was replaced by Ernie Ball USA last year due to the previous having an ‘ash bora beetle’ infestation. Turns out there was a few basses affected by this infamous little bug that had a penchant for a specific type of ash. Ernie Ball were truly amazing in sorting everything out, excellent customer service throughout. The whole bass was then checked over and set up with the new body by UK Ernie Ball reps and as such the body really remains pristine. It will come with the correct D-tuner (cost me £120), Musicman original case and the case candy + original tuner. Plays amazingly, lots of tonal versatility from the 18v preamp. There’s a small dink on the head stock and a tiny spot on neck (see pics), otherwise in excellent condition. The Om transfer on the pickguard is easily removable if so desired. Being the special it’s a lightweight bass in comparison to its predecessors, I think 8.5lbs from memory. Also I don’t think they do the Aqua sparkle colour anymore so here’s a chance to get ‘the one’. It’s a proper funk machine and by far the best Stingray I have owned. Looking for £1650 collected, willing to work with buyer on courier options but buyer will be responsible for costs/insurance. *Possible trades but will need at least £1k cash my way - lightweight jazz bass (under 8.5lbs), Barefaced One ten, Sterling Ray 34 or similar, Sub stingray, either US or the recent cheaper ones.3 points

Hi I am putting my Ibanez Mezzo up for grabs, collection from Croydon area, needs a little attention and unfortunately I dont really have the time to deal with myself, I am sure there is someone out there who does have the time to deal with or is happy to just rock it with just the P pickup. The bridge pickup does not work, I have left it in for the sake of aesthetics, the pickguard is a spray paint job, the bass plays pretty well and the P pickup sounds good, wiring is passive with a series/parallel switch for the P pickup3 points

Appreciate these Q's weren't for me, but my 2pence is..... I find tapes comparable to flats with regards to longevity, which I think in part is why they're more expensive, companies know that they're inherently going to sell way fewer of them compared to Roundwounds. Certainly when I put flats and tapes on a bass, I largely assume I'm not going to replace them for a LONG time. I gigged my last set of Gold White Nylons a lot and didn't hear any drop-off in tone. Those strings only went because I sold the bass. When I bought the bass back (sans the strings unfortunately), I put on some White Nylons and while they're still relatively new, I assume I won't change those strings for years now. Tension wise, they are low tension! Kinda the opposite to flats, and lower still than roundwounds. Some people really don't like them for that reason, but for me it's one of the reasons I love them most. If you have a particularly heavy touch, you're going to likely have to change your approach, but if you're quite light-handed, you're doing to love them. They also bend really nicely for vibrato. I've just seen that you can now live stream a gig directly through Bandcamp. Looks like you can choose your own ticket price, and even sell merch at the same time. I'm just in the process of setting up my rehearsal room for live streaming, although currently not set up on bandcamp. Could be interesting. Anybody on it? If the mods allow, maybe we could post links to upcoming Bandcamp gigs on here?3 points

Hello, Fender Vintera 50s Precision Bass Dakota Red Maple Fingerboard. I bought this from guitarguitar as a back up bass, the pictures are from their website, it still looks the same. It's virtually unused, obviously, I have actually played it, but never gigged...Comes with the Fender gig bag. I can bubble wrap/box it etc;-if you sort out a courier to collect. Otherwise, treat yourself to a day out down in Dorset, it's nice! Cheers, Simon2 points

Fodera make a 10% profit margin on any instrument they build, one of the partners did a fairly detailed breakdown of why they cost so much over on talkbass a few years back. They're based in NYC, only use the best possible materials, pay their builders a decent wage and look after their pension/healthcare, both of which are expensive in the US.2 points

Trial and error played a big role in my quest for the optimum strings for downtuned four string basses. Generally I like sets of 100-40 in standard tuning and I generally try to get a set that gets somewhere close to the tension of a 100-40 set in standard whatever the tuning. Since D'addario's String Tension Pro has gone dead, I have been using https://stringtensioncalculator.com/. It isn't exact science but yellow = loose, white = standard, red = high tension. Start with something close to the gauge you prefer in standard and try to approximately match the tension in your chosen tuning. Tension isn't the be all and end all but it at least gives a starting point. Personal preferences and issues like action, fit of the bridge, compliance all play a role. It is essentially a bit of trial and error and lots of guesstimates as to what will work. For C sharp standard, D'addario Balanced Tension 120-50 are my go to 'set' or a set of Elixir singles of 120-50 but they are in short supply at the moment. Personally I didn't like the DR DDTs as I felt they were too unbalanced in that the low strings were too loose and the high strings were really high tension.2 points

When I had my Gus G1 guitar made, the finished instrument was delivered to my work. One of the designers thought it was the the most amazing thing he had ever seen and if I ever wanted to sell it he'd buy off me no problem. This was over 20 years ago and back then he had never played the guitar and had zero interest in learning. I saw him last year and he asked me if I still had the guitar and when I told him I did he reminded me that he would still be interested in buying it. He still hasn't learnt how to play and likes it simply because he thinks it is a gorgeous artefact. I think the only reason he hasn't ordered an identical one from Gus for himself, is because he's too embarrassed to buy something from the maker when he can't actually play it.2 points

No, even on full it’s nowhere near a full-on drive. The way I’d describe it is you know when you hear isolated bass tracks from people such as John Deacon, those which sound clean & full in the mix, but isolated there’s that gritty/gainy sound to them, well that’s how the Spark works. Nothing like Lemmy or anything, just a hair on the sound to stop it being completely clean.2 points

Jeeeez. There's always one. It was just an experiment. Some guy messing around for the sake of it. He didn't string it with guitar strings to make it sound like a bass. He would have strung it with bass strings if he wanted it to sound like a bass. Have a Millers or something and relax.2 points

I did a little clip, absolute crap but you get the picture. This is high mode, gain on 4, peak on 6, drive up. Playing Stingray. You'll (hopefully) notice that even in this mode, the peaks are really nice sounding and not harsh at all. And the lows never get boomy or indistinct. I tried playing a straight baseline but this thing just makes you want to piss about. Mutron - 20:01:2022, 15.01.mp3 Also here's photo of the pedal just for fun2 points
