Well this arrived yesterday, I’ve been looking for one for a while and a practically new condition one came up, not really been played, only tested and it still had the plastic on the pickups and tuning pegs , I have to say that the compound neck profile is amazing (not that I venture much up the dusty end 😁), it really feels great. It’s taking me a while to find the sound I like with the controls, any advice greatly welcomed , It’s quite a joy to play 🙂12 points

Well, the noob got another bass yesterday! My Precision is set up with flats, so I wanted something else to set up with rounds. This Road Worn Jazz Bass cropped up on ebay reasonably close to me and we met halfway yesterday so I could pick it up. It was in desperate need of a setup though, but a tweak of the truss rod took the bow out of the neck, then a little bridge height and intonation adjustment and it now plays wonderfully. It's a very lightweight bass, I haven't weighed it yet, but I reckon it's around the 8 lbs mark. I also took the opportunity to polish out the dull finish with Virtuoso Guitar Cleaner. I know these basses come with a satin finish, but I've never seen an actual vintage bass with such a dull finish, so now it's a bit more gloss. Has anyone else got an opinion on these Road Worns? Anyway, the pictures! Cheers, Rob8 points

I've been working on bass for a grindcore album, after a mate who I see once a year at a festival asked if I wanted to play on it. I've not done original music for the best part of a decade and have found the process to go something like this: Sure, I'd love to play on your album These are cool songs, quite quick though, I'm sure they'll be fine This is cool, okay I got this Hang on. No, I do not have this I am bad and should not be allowed at music That's......better? I can't hear the difference between good and bad anymore Nope, that's out of time .....and that's out of tune.... And that's just plain wrong Jesus, he's not a bassist and his bass part is much better I need to email him and tell him I can't do this Oh. That works I think this is good? Timing sounds about right? I think I'm happy with this I've now uploaded to Dropbox and will await feedback from the songwriter7 points

As much as I love this bass, bills need to be paid and I have to let it go. I only bought it off of a fellow basschatter last year after having searched one forever. - 1st gen Arpege bass (1984) - Walnut wings - neckthrough Maple & Walnut neck. - Phenowood Fingerboard - Brass plate between fingerboard and neck for reinforcement -> the neck is mega stable - Benedetti Pickups (bridge pickup is new) - original electronics! - serial: 239 comes with the original hard case. shipping in bomb proof packaging is no problem. located in Germany.6 points

Does anyone else regularly walk into the room where the basses are, literally just look at them and sigh, then turn around and walk out again? Mrs Rayman: “ I wish you looked at me like that”6 points

Aria Pro II RSB 600 Rev Sound Bass Beautiful Japanese made bass from the classic early 80’s period. This is similar to the SB700 however it has the Fender type headstock. Brass nut, through neck and passive electrics with coil tap. Absolutely original and in pretty good condition for a working bass of over 40 years. There is a cosmetic repair at the bottom and some scratches and dings throughout but nothing structural or nasty. Bass is heavy at 4.7kgs but balances well and is fine on a wide strap. Action is low and the frets and truss rod are good. It comes without a case but I can pack it well if you want it posting - UK only. No trades sorry. I’m looking for a quick sale so £350 Ono. Postage will be extra.6 points

And to follow that statement, let's go to the absolute other end of the scale, a £50 charity shop bass. 😁 An Encore which I've just stripped, cleaned and polished, spent some time on the frets and fretboard, then fitted a Tonerider pickup and an old set of Chromes that I had. I'm not going to claim it's in the four figure range of Precisions but it's an absolute belter now, feels and plays lovely and sounds as a P bass should. The thread is here if it's of interest. 🙂👍6 points

I like this... With the added advantage of no magnetic pickups! (btw, I've got one of these and it's excellent)6 points

Selling one of my 2 remaining Celinders. There's something else vintage I bought that I now need to pay for.... Extremely rare model from an instrument maker who only made about 500 or so instruments. If you're looking at this advert, you probably know what it is already. But in this case, it's Christian Celinder's elegant take on a Precision body but with a Jazz neck. The Precision models are pretty rare, and only a few of them had Jazz necks. Specs: Ash body in translucent blue, flame maple fingerboard, and beautifully figured maple neck. Jazz width nut (1.5"), 19mm string spacing at bridge. Original CP3A preamp with dip switches, PJ pickup setup. Dual stacked volume pot - one volume per pickup - and bass/treble on the other pots. Electrics are in full working order. Nicely shielded cavity and easy battery access. Weight 4.5 kg, or so the bathroom scales tell me. Frets and neck in excellent order. I haven't had to adjust the truss rod since I first set it up in 2019 after buying it. Setup is with D'Addario Nickel XLs. E string is 5/64" at 12th fret going over to 4/64" at the G string 12th fret. It's a pretty low action, with nearly zero relief. It sports a clear pickguard currently, though it will also come with an aged pearl pickguard (which probably started off white but has yellowed with time; I had Christian make me another pickguard because of that). It has a number of small scratches and one ding at the bottom of the bass and one near the neck. The bridge has some wear on the chrome as well, though it is clean. I have photographed these areas carefully so the condition is clear. Happy to ship anywhere. Will ship in a generic hard case - I think it's a fairly worn Road Runner one, but don't quote me, I need to go dig it out. Given its rarity, it's up at £2500. Shipping is at buyer's expense. No trades, though all offers are considered. SOLD. Pete The pics: And here are close ups the various areas of wear/scratches etc. Plus a pic of what the old pickguard looked like: (deleted some pics that appeared twice...d'oh)5 points

Sunday afternoon gig at Rocknrolla's in Paisley Glasgow went quite well. Not a large crowd by any means but all into punk music and a few that were surprised just how many of the songs they recognised. Fantastic venue if anyone is looking to book a gig in Paisley, Glasgow area. Converted church but very well done and laid out. Sound Engineer Paul was 1st class and had the band rigged up to PA very quickly and all done very politely with no hassle at all. Sound check was done as you would expect with great comms from SE to the band. All in all a first class job, good PA and foldback system. Made a few mistooks in songs i've never had an issue with before so i was a bit surprised. Had one senior moment where i totally forgot what i play during guitar solo but i ad libbed on root note and seemed ok. We even had a "band room" with sandwiches and cold drinks including beer if you weren't driving all supplied. We split our fee evenly with the Sound Engineer getting a share as he did a fantastic job for us. Started at 1:15pm for 1hr then 20min break and back on all finished circa 4pm and home for 6pm. It was weird doing a Sun afternoon gig and being home for 6pm. Have a similar gig next Sun with the Glam rock band in another venue. Dave5 points

What a dumpster fire this thread has become. You have killed any chance of me ever being interested in your product because it would necessitate dealing with you. You have been crass, unprofessional, shown a complete lack of ability to take criticism well, called people names, deflected when asked probing questions and been condescending. The only positive thing I can take from this is a lesson in how not to convince people to invest in your product. For all that I bear you no ill will and hope you turn this around and become successful in your endeavours, but it will be without my business.5 points

I've got a bit more done to this today. I had to redrill for the Wilkinson replacement bridge. I had one with brass saddles which I wanted to use to complement the other brass bits. A quick measure to get in the right place, and it can't go in the right place. Ideally you want the G string saddle on its maximum adjustment (well nearly maximum just in case of poor measuring) towards the neck, and measure that at 34" (or whatever your scale length is). The others will always need longer string runs to intonate properly. Or that's what I remember. Anyway I didn't bother filling the bridge screw holes as they'll be covered, and possibly used depending on which bridge I used, right? Well with the bridge sat where the old one was, the G saddle is on about half adjustment when the scale length is 34", not the ideal maximum adjustment, or minimum depending on how you look at it. I've fitted it in the same place as the old one and hopefully they'll be enough room to intonate properly. I've refitted the old loom for now as although the original pots looked terrible, the mankiness on them seems to be some sort or yellow wax. Underneath this they are clean so I've left them as they are, I'll see if they worked properly before making a decision on replacing them. If it ain't broke and all that. I got some brass volume and tone knobs from AliExpress. They are a close match to the kind you see on Westone Thunders and again, I thought they'd go with the brass theme. I've never liked the black speed knobs that I think they're meant to have. They are taller than I'd like but have a cool oversized look, which I quite like given that this is just a bit of fun. I was going to take a few mil off the bottom but I don't think they'll sit any lower on the shaft (pack it in children). All this, plus the shape, is beginning to remind me of one of those gaudy Alembics, shudder. 😄4 points

It’s most likely the same preamp as the ultra is pretty much the same as the Elite. It really does work incredibly well live though and I have had a lot of positive feedback on it. At home I like a bit more low down so just dial it in. I love the colour of yours, this is my one-4 points

Well even with all the luke warm comments on this thread I have to say I am really pleased with my B6. Each to his own I suppose!! Had a rehearsal yesterday with my covers band and the B6 performed really well, copied all my patches from my B1-Four and used some of the amp sims on modified patches. All good stuff.4 points

You’ve got this wrong. I don’t have to build anything to have an objective view on your bridge. I’m your target market. Maybe listen a bit more and you’ll have more people on board with your product. For example, I don’t have to to build cars to say that a Fiat Mulitpla looks fricken awful.4 points

So after seeing one of these featured on Bass The World, I've had my eyes peeled for one for ages. It's mid 80s, made India (eh?..... yep), I think its one of the early ones, as there's no bullet truss rod nut, and if you can find one at all in decent condition, they're not expensive at all. Past reviews are mixed... "Budget" or "Cheap Eastern knockoffs" ...to... "Best kept secret" "Future Classic". Not sure about any of that, but this thing is a belter. Really. I've been around long enough to know what's driftwood and what isn't. This isn't. Because it would sink. Many people describe these as "Cheap and cheerful", however having spoken to a couple guitar (6 string) techs, the "strats" were actually really very good when they're in good order, and desirable by some folks. One went on to say that actually the Indians were actually very good with the construction side, with regard to the timber, it was just the electrics that were "functional", but surprisingly, the pickups, although lowish in output, actually had a nice tone and perfectly useable. "Many people will replace the pickups for no reason, they're fine" Quote. Mine was in a sorry state when I got it, poor Ander (who I bought it from) had removed most of its gunk after he received it from someone else in that state. It had a broken tuner, cheap nasty and broken EQ, and looked like someone had used it as a battering ram. Not a bad idea, as it weighs a ton. So, lots of TLC later, an 80s set of (identical to the original ones) Hohner tuners, Dunlop straplocks (wouldn't want to drop it, it would go straight through floor), oiled fretboard, KiOgon loom and a set of D'Addario tapewounds, and I think its bloody awesome. I had my doubts about the pickup before I actually heard it, but it sounds perfectly decent with the new loom, no problem there. The neck is one peice maple with an Indian rosewood board, it's really nice and straight, and the body is.... solid ash? (it took ages to rout out for the CTS pots)(apparently the guitars were 3pcs mahogany). Nice tight neck pocket, decent construction from what I can see. Full ahead mojo on this thing. Very cool. This bass is a survivor, and I hope I've given it a new lease of life, because hasn't been loved for a long time. Great range of tones, SO good with the tone rolled back, lovely low action, no buzz, easy to play thanks to the tapes, AND it looks the dogs. Old school marvellousnes. It's a P bass? Looks like one, sounds like one, feels like one, and it reminds me of a '78 Fender I had in a lot of ways. Definitely 70s vibes, even though this was built 10yrs later, and having just spent a couple of hours playing it, I have a massive smile on my face. I don't care where it was made or how much it cost. With a proper clean up, set up and new parts (Original pickup), this thing is class, I was grinning from ear to ear. I literally haven't touched the other basses since I got this one, I just can't put it down. Fabulous thing. Precision bass requirements fulfilled. Obviously by the time I’d edited this post, I’d added a second one.3 points

I’ve not posted this for a while, for those who haven’t seen it! 1999 musicman Sterling, was pearl blue, but ended up with a ‘lockdown’ refinish in sonic blue with a new pickgaurd its not perfect, mostly due to some issues I had with the grain in the wood, but it’s good enough for me and looks great, in my opinion! its a tad heavy, but plays so well! can’t believe the prices people are asking for these, they don’t come up for sale very often though!3 points

Price includes delivery : Bought new, delivered, case damaged in transit, replaced, now surplus. Complete with a gig bag and Footswitch. This the first Ashdown I’ve ever owned, albeit short lived, like the Drive and compression, especially the Drive. But, no gigs man, it’s really loud and articulate as well. I’m not needing a trade or part chop, just cash for what is a brand new, tested, (working) RM800. https://ashdownmusic.com/products/rm-800-evo-ii-head Less than half price Thanks for looking2 points

What sets bass players like Jeff Andrews and Marcus Miller (and Jaco, for that matter) apart is that they have a deep knowledge of jazz theory. And they also have the chops put that knowledge into practice. That Yamaha BB 1500a looks and sounds a good fit for Jeff considering his mainstay was a P Bass with Jazz pickups.2 points

I suspect I'm in a minority here, but the hiss and crackle of old vinyl gives it a sense of history. I still have most of my records, including about 1,500 singles. IIRC, the oldest is a 7" of the Platters' The Great Pretender, which is dated 1956. I've got quite a few from the 60s and 70s too. The hiss and crackle increases the sense of them coming from a long time ago. Sometimes it's nice to play them and remember my youth. And there's something about seeing the spinning disc that makes it seem more immediate compared to a box of blinkenlights. But anything I buy nowadays is CD by default. If stuff gets pulled off a streaming service, I still have it.2 points

Depends on how much you want to get paid, and if it's worthwhile for you to do the gig. Personally, I do those kind of miles regularly for gigs but it's not for pub money, and I often get food and accommodation thrown in too.2 points

I took a trip to The Bass Gallery yesterday and played a Fodera, a 6 string Monarch I think. It was nice, sounded pretty good, found that sound you hear from the classic Fodera players like Matt Garrison, Janek Gwizdala etc., though I definitely couldn't play the same lines! But honestly I wasn't that taken with it. I much preferred the Wilcock and Rob Allen basses I tried. Doesn't matter how much you spend on your instrument, what you like matters more.2 points
