  2. My final clearout bass bargain..i have more basses than the ability to store them so its murder your darlings time.. The kiloton is a great musicman 'zone' type bass yet passive. The MFD pickup range is as hot as they get and this is no exception. Beautiful trans 'root beer' finish over mahogany. Smaller body shape (same as the SB-2) makes this good on the shoulders. I fitted a hipshot and the dropped D rings lovely on this. 4kg on the trusty bathroom scales, mahogany body. I have a thing for carbon fibre wrap on scratch plates and this is no exception, underneath is a tort plate, but I have added black carbon fibre which looks tasteful imho. No heavy dings or scratches, some very light signs of wear but nothing to cause any concern Happy to post at buyers expense, will always ship insured. Happy also to meet up within reason in Kent or M25 with some consideration towards petrol and coffee.

  3. Small cozy venue tonight with the punk covers band. Played there about 2mths ago. Wasn't very busy when we started of but punters just kept coming in and halfway thru first set it got to a decent wee crowd. Lot of singing along too. Singer is just recovering from Covid 2-3 weeks ago and is struggling for breath so the audience were helping us out i reckon. The band have a good wee following in this venue so that always helps. Went really well with lots of great feedback especially the bass compliments from several people. Aparently i nailed every song and one guy said i did a fantastic job on Eddie & Hot Rods song Do Anything You Wanna Do. He's a fan of them and reckoned i got it spot on. He also asked if i was a Geddy fan as i had a similar style and tone which was a very well received comment. Seemed to be a few bass players in the audience tonight as i was getting comments about my playing and bass gear. Few mates from way back came along for a listen and they were very impressed and commented on FB page that it was a cracking gig. I was even asked to give a young lady a hug. I did oblige solely for the PR of course. No pics or vids as yet but will post if i get any. Had to stop of for a kebab and pakora on way home at midnight as nothing to eat since 3pm. All in all i'm going to bed very happy with todays job. Dave

  4. Hello, up for sale goes a nice NS-4CR Spector bass made in Czech Republic in SSD era (1993-99), shortly before Stuart Spector regained the Spector trademark. It features: Solid red gloss finish Solid Maple Wings 3pc Rock Maple Neck-Thru Body with Graphite Reinforcements Rosewood Fingerboard Abalone Dots Inlays EMG Pickups Original and rare Czech Made 9V Hazlab preamp version Solid Brass Bridge Schaller Strap Buttons Schaller M4 Tuners. Killer sound! The Czech Haz pre is the closest you will get to a Spector NS-2 tone. Very good condition, only one small paint chip (oval crack actually) by the bridge. Comes in a hardshell case. Trade possible for a John Suhr era Fender JB Deluxe.

  7. Hi all, This is a much loved and gorgeous instrument which I've had for over 10 years. Sounds totally ace. Maple neck and fingerboard. It's had some upgrades: US Bartolini NTMB 918F preamp Nordstand Fat Stacks pickups - which are lovely in both humbucking and single coil modes Tortoise shell pickguard from Jeanies - the people who make them for Lakland USA black Hipshot Ultralite Tuners Black string tree Black Schaller strap locks and metal knobs Push pull knob for passive / active mode. A light scuff to the upper horn (see photo) The little plastic catch bit for the battery compartment at the back has come off (see photo) - I use a house key to open it. It stays shut and works fine. ----- Extras: The strings on it are new but not the greatest, so will include a brand new set of Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalt which I love. And a new 9V battery. And new soft case - very light but good enough to carry it home in : ) I'm based in Liverpool and still a bit nervous about shipping but open to it. If you can make it to mine, you're of course welcome to try it through a couple of different amps/cabs (Aguilar, EBS, Acoustic Image). Any questions, just let me know. Many thanks

  8. St . Paddy's gig at one of Newcastle's most beautiful bars. Here's some singalong bits. Absolutely heaving, and a great afternoon. On the down side, it'll be a miracle if we don't all get covid.

  10. I can finally join in!! Yay! First gig with a new covers band in a local pub. Went well: learnt 49 songs (I mean, they’re all songs all of us know, nothing taxing!) and it went great! Some stuff with proper “you gotta play the original line coz that’s the meat of the song” like Crazy Little Thing and Pump It Up, and a good sprinkling of stuff where I could just play around. Because I’m not singing and PA’ing I just rocked up, set up in 10 mins and was ready… lovely! It’s the guitarist’s band and he (by his own admission) needs to tighten some stuff up. Singer’s good, drummer is ****ing excellent - next rehearsal I’ll add some harmonies and bring a proper mixer and some decent mics and… I’ll be doing all the work again. Can’t help myself! Pub was rammed, dancing and singing and repeat booking…. 20 min drive and £60 in my pocket. Loved it!!!

  11. We did Scunthorpe Baths Hall and Sunderland Empire Theatre this week. Scunthorpe gig is one of our nearest so always enjoy it. A great venue with top facilities and a good sounding room. Sunderland is another of my favourites - modern building containing an old style theatre, great crew and always an appreciative crowd. A really enjoyable gig.

  12. Afternoon all, Some of you may well remember my post from 2018 (I can't believe it's four years ago...) found here: Well, I finally created a follow-up and I'm rather pleased with it. If you're a precision bass type of guy (or girl) then this should be right up your rue. Let me know what you all think - constructive criticism welcomed of course.... This will probably end up as a run of prints as before, if there's enough interest that is. Cheers!

  13. Hello from across the ocean. New in this chat but I've been around TB for a bit and recognize some handles. Just wanted to show some love for the RM300. Recently grabbed this up from Sweetwater as a demo unit and I'm actually very impressed. I read through this thread and got a ton of great info from you guys, thank you! I can say that this sucker is a LOUD 300. It's loud at whatever is drawn from 8ohms. Run through the ABM 410 it's a little dark at flat but livens up with the EQ. Through my Darkglass 212 4ohms... OH BOY OH BOY is this little guy rowdy. I wrote up my initial impressions in a long post on the other bass forum. I can drop the link if that's OK to do here or just search my handle over there. I'm a pretty big fan on Ashdown gear after picking up an LB30 last fall.

  16. OK - one scary bit done - cutting the taper. I cut around 2mm oversize and then slowly sneak up on the final size with planes and sanding beams. This is at the 2mm oversize stage: Tomorrow, I will finish-size it and start on the fretting.

  19. Just spotted this on Facebook so had a better look. The GB moderns look fantastic and the Elricks don't look too shabby either. Loaded with ultralites, Nordstrands, Markbass and Babicz, will probably cost about £1700. Will be interesting to see how they stack up against other basses in this price range.

  21. SWR SM900 for sale What many consider to be the ultimate bass amp and certainly the flagship of the SWR line, here we have my SM900 for sale. I’ve owned this amp for the last four years and have used her on pretty much every gig I’ve played including main stage at Stormin the Castle, and the O2 Academy in Newcastle. Swiss Army knife of tone, including bass, two switchable three band semi-parametric mids, treble and the SWR aural enhancer. This amp is a workhorse that’s been used but is still in good condition for her age. Known for running stupidly hot, I’ve modified mine by adding ventilation holes (pictured) in the top above the transformer, and adding a second external fan to force air into the amp housing. She now runs cooler than a cool thing. Currently racked in a 2U flight case modified to include a vent where the original fan exhausts from the amp. Only selling because if got other SWR amps and in truth I need the space. Price is £300 including flight case or £250 without. Collection from Killingworth preferred, as she’s a heavy beast and she’ll be expensive to post.

  23. For sale, my glorious Spector NS2000/4, in superb condition - light finish swirling but that's about it. I sold this to a friend a few years ago and after much pleading he finally sold it back to me. I thought I'd keep it forever but I have... overspent somewhat lately 🙄 Made in Korea, neck-through, EMG HZ pickups. Weight is 9.5lb. Collection from Dartford preferred, but I can post at buyer's expense and arrangement. No trades at the moment.

  24. My bass clearout continues.. Squier contemporary Jazz bass. Active humbucker pickups, Bass/treble boost. Bought it from someone who had in turn bought it as damaged in transit. There was a dent on the top bout, and a binding tuner, which worked but wasnt great. I have replaced all the tuners, and the bridge for a hi mass fender unit and repaired the dent on the back. New d'addario strings, and full set up. Blue vinyl wrap on the black scratchplate (can be easily removed) Plays great and has a really punchy sound. Body is ASH so heavier than some but very distinctive bass all in all. Happy to post in UK at buyer expense of meet up in Kent or m25 for some consideration w/r to petrol costs.

  25. I think you have accomplished more than you will perhaps, at the moment anyway, realise. Many years ago, 1965 to be precise, I was 9 years old and the only one of a group of pals who didn’t have a bike. As with most families, money was tight and there wasn’t any likelihood of me getting one any time soon. Without letting on to me, my dad, my pop, uncles and so on had scavenged around for bicycle parts; frame, wheels etc. My dad worked away from home at this time, leaving early Monday and returning late on Friday. Sunday night I was packed off to bed and my dad secretly set about assembling this bike. Goodness knows what time he got finished. I got up for school the next day; he had already left for his train, and I found this bike sitting in the kitchen. I’ve never forgotten that moment: “My dad made that for me”. It took many years for the deeper significance to become apparent, but at that point, the moment was enough. I hope in the years ahead, your son will carry with him a similar cherished moment. Bravo Sir.

  28. 2017 Fender Classic Series P-Bass. Selling as in dire need of a 5-string bass due to joining a band that play EVERYTHING a tone or two lower! 😆 Made in Mexico from the highly regarded Classic Series, where build quality, weight and specs were 'often' matching and surpassing stuff made in the USA. Fiesta red with Gold anodized pickguard. One piece Maple neck. Alder body 7.25 inch radius neck USA standard pickup (these were stock). Poly finish. 50's spec nut width - 1.75inch Vintage style reverse tuners Vintage grooved saddles. Weight wise, I haven't had a chance to weigh yet, but it's is on the light side of the spectrum - Sub 9lbs easily. In unmarked condition aside from a nick in the poly lacquer on the forearm bout. Resonant body and vintage P-Bass tone in spades. The tone control has a very wide range/sweep of sounds from balls out, angry punk to dub tones. Pickup or meet up only (happy to travel a large radius to myself here (Moreton in Marsh) on the Warwickshire/ Gloucestershire/Oxfordshire border. No shipping. No trades or offers please. Thanks for looking!

  30. Thread resurrection! Generally I skip the adverts that You Tube push up, but I sat through a whole one for the Aclam Smart Track board. I'll admit that despite only running two stomps (a dUg and a Geddy 2112DI) I was intrigued with the Aclam. Never owned a Pedaltrain, but I did have a Temple Board; I hate that there's a necessity to stick anything onto pedals that cost a small fortune. Question is, do I really want/need another board just to carry two pedals, a PSU and a couple of ABY boxes? Answers on a postcard.

  32. Indeed - everyone has influences (it's hardly overstating to say we all learn by copying) but to suggest there's little left but plagiarism, or at best subconscious recycling seems like a massive expression of negative defeatism.

  35. I've had this lovely Honeyburst Star Bass for a couple of years and it rarely gets used despite being a great player( due to my Telecaster Bass having its 50th Birthday run-out in 2022). These Pro Series MIK were the ones to have and strung with Flats it has a full 34" neck (unlike the more recent and hugely inferior Chinese versions) and comes complete with a lush Warwick Rockbag case. The top and back are gorgeous flamed maple and it is in excellent condition and has no issues for a 10 year old bass. The neck is straight, has no dinks and the action is low. The previous careful owner upgraded the Justa-nut to V3 I believe. It will also be supplied with the Warwick User Kit which includes manual, warranty documents, straplocks, polishing cloth and truss rod adjuster, all in its own little Warwick soft case!

  36. Lopping initial Sweaters used to be a hobby of mine... until the kids got to that 'impressionable age'. Now all I've got left is drinking, bass playing and shouting at the kids (I'm only kidding about the last two, I'm a terrible bassist and the wife shouts at the kids for me!).

  41. Well, the much anticipated/dreaded Paddys Night debacle didn't turn out half as rowdy as I'd feared; France won (so Ireland didn't, tho it was interesting to see a bunch of Ireland rugby fans cheering for England for a while), and the place wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be - I suspect the Paddy's Day crowd had caned it on Thursday and Friday, so it was a more normal crowd. Still packed, still a queue out the doors, but not the mayhem I'd anticipated... Few new songs thrown in by the BL: 'Do you know Tennessee Whiskey?' 'Erm, I've heard it.' 'In A. Two, three, four...' All good, tho - a slightly shorter gig, thanks to the rugby (two sets rather than the usual three), paid and home in good time. Even got parked outside for nowt (a major achievement in the centre of Manchester). Good to be back.

  42. Had a trip over the Pennines on Saturday to a place topside of Manchester that wasn’t Yorkshire. Great little boozer and great crowd. Although the pub was adorned with Happy Monday’s, Oasis type stuff they really sempt to enjoy 70s Glam. https://www.facebook.com/100057309975369/videos/312264734148803/
