  2. Up for sale here is my fabulous RBX460. Really lovely bass, low action, it plays itself, currently fitted with almost new TI Flats that REALLY bring the bass to life. Great neck, easy to play, lightweight, it's a belter. Mates rates on here, I'm asking more elsewhere. I'm not desperate at all, I still might keep it, it just isn't being used at all. Some light buckle rash, otherwise in great nick, and all original to my knowledge. Within reason, I'll bring it to you or meet you somewhere, as I travel all over the country for work. SOLD

  3. I was once (briefly) in an originals band with a pianist called Barry ("just call me 'Bazza' - everyone does") and a drummer called Gareth ("actually at school they called me 'Gazza'"). We needed a guitarist. Barry found an Australian called Wayne. Welcome aboard Wayne, we all said. "Nah mates, call me "Wazza", OK?". Seriously.

  4. I would disagree with almost everything here, but when expressed with such passion and eloquence, I could almost be persuaded. Almost. Regarding fret dots, when they come up with some midi/bluetooth/magical device that connects your fretboard to some discreet earbuds which scream the chord changes into your ear whilst playing, I'll be first in the queue. Whenever I see one of those clever fretless players, nimbly navigating an unlined fingerboard I feel jealous and a little nauseous. I still need a few signposts, even after the best part of forty years of playing in pop groups. I'm pretty laissez faire about whatever a bassist chooses to twang upon. However: Pointy headstocks on anything other than a Flying V; and More than four control knobs on the body of an instrument should really be punishable by a fine, a slapped wrist and an ASBO. If you need a Haynes manual to work out why your bass sounds like a dinosaur with sinus issues, rather than, for example, James Jamerson, I'd consider downsizing.

  5. Purchased this here on Basschat a few months ago. It was well loved and used on tour and hence showed signs of wear (it was originally copper penny). It was a perfect candidate for one of custom sunburst paint jobs. Before painting I moved the jack to the control plate and routed the body to accommodate the moved volume control. Not the most elegant paint job, but it's perfect for a players bass. Weighs in at 3.65kg (8.07lbs) and strung with d'Addario Chrome flatwounds. Edit: I also found a gig bag I can ship it in Well boxed as well of course! This bass already looks well aged and will continue to mellow nicely with the thin nitro paint. The EMG GZR pick ups are fabulous. They make this bass shine. The original harness and pickups will be included. Happy to ship the bass, but often travel between London and the South Coast. Playing the Half Moon Putney this weekend if anyone wants free entry and do the bass deal there! Or, for another £75I can include a SKB bass safe to ship it in.

  6. Not quite last night 😂 but went on tour with a band I guitar tech for. I’d learned a load of their set before we left because of Covid. I ended up playing the last 4 shows of the tour. Sheffield, Bristol, Bournemouth O2 Academy’s and Shepherds Bush empire. Headlining. I hadn’t played a show for a year 😂. What an experience!

  7. NOW £575 POSTED!! For sale My Attitude special in seafoam green. A cracking bass in great shape for its age, plays lovely and has a huge sound!!! Obviously a step down from the Jap Attitude but a great bass in its own right. I am returning to 5 string basses once more out of necessity so this is up for sale. The humbucker is controlled by a Vol/tone and the p pickup is volume only. A V/T/V configuration. All the hardware is of usual Yamaha quality with no signs of pitting or tarnishing. The pickguard and humbucker cover are aftermarket replacements and are not perfect but it takes close inspection to see this. The humbucker cover is only taped on so can be removed at any time. Nut width 40mm String spacing 19m Weight 9.3lbs Not rare as such but becoming less common, probably due to owners hanging on to them! No case but it will be very well wrapped and boxed for shipping. UK Postage is included. UK only sorry. Cheers

  8. P-Basses. In my younger days, I'd always shunned them totally for being so boring (as I saw it) and common, preferring flashier basses with more bells and whistles. I then bought a Classic Series 50's and realised what all the endless clichés are about, with regards to 'sitting in the mix perfectly' and 'sounding great with no tweaking required'. They're ubiquitous for a reason and it took me near 20 years to show them some respect.

  9. Hey guys, following many legal fees from a custody battle, leaving me in a bit of financial ruin, I now have full custody over my son and need money so I’m seeking off a load of kit: The best 4 string I own!!!!! This thing is AMAZING even if I did build it myself. Originally it was fretless, but I fretted it up a few months ago as have no need for a fretless!! 2 piece (1 split) flame olive ash back which I hollowed out the bass side and the bottom horn for weight relief and tone 1 piece split highly figured quilted/flame/spalted maple top Bubinga board Natural to bluey/green burst with matching burst on headstock 1 piece 1/4 sawn maple neck with a bit of flame on it Glue in set neck 38mm nut Custom asymetric shape neck Bartolini Jeff Berlin pickups Hipshot Kickass bridge VVT controls Backplate painstakingly made out of an offcut from the body Fully shielded This thing sings like you would not believe and is without a shadow of a doubt the best 4 string I have owned (a litttle biased but it is) and I'm already regretting putting it up but needs must! The woods cost me £550 alone for this bass! It's stunning, sings like you wouldn't believe and has sustain for years!!!! price drop now to £1000as need it gone for lawyer bills urgently

  10. Been waiting a year for this, there's a build diary some of you have been kind enough to comment on. Awesome build quality, the pictures don't really do the complexity of the grain justice. Plays like butter, Alan commented that it was "very fretless" and he's bang on, tons of mwaaaa all day long. Absolutely love it.

  11. This has now sold. I'm offering my 3LEAF Proton v.2 for £145 posted in the UK. The pedal is in good working order and was bought used and has no box. I haven't had much time with it and I'm only letting it go because I recently and unexpectedly bought a Chromatron (and need to pay for it). I'm not asking for crazy Reverb prices in the hope that it will go to someone who'll get a decent amount of use out of it.

  13. Slightly smaller crowd than the one from Nash's post but at the weekend the 80s alternative duo from the ashes of my old Sixth Form Goth band played the local village open mic. Loving this minimalist set up with acoustic folk instruments and drum machines / synths. Plus it's nice just to hang out with one of my oldest friends. I love that we can do a Cult cover and bring the house down, only to follow it with a bit of Bauhaus and clear the pub!

  16. For Sale: Sadowsky MV5 Metro with maple neck and fingerboard, plus hard case. I bought this two months ago on this forum and it is a stunning bass, immaculate condition and sounds superb. I am only selling because I've now bought the NYC version. The bass was bought new in August 2020 so is only 18 months old, there is not a mark on it (some very light swirling on the scratch plate but zero other marks or fret wear). This was made in Japan and is the usual very high Sadowsky quality and finish. It only weighs 8.8lb. It has newly fitted DR Hi-Beams. String spacing looks like 18mm with my ruler. Comes with a generic ABS hard case in good condition. I have the Sadowsky warranty form, allen keys, original receipt and controls guide. It is fitted with Sadowsky Hum-cancelling J pickings, the controls are Volume, Pickup Blend, Treble roll-off (Vintage Tone Control) With Pre-Amp Bypass, Bass Boost, Treble Boost, and also Hipshot tuners. All round, a top quality bass, lovely to play and very wide tonal range. You won't find one in this condition at this price. I have a cardboard box this can be shipped in so happy to post in UK only for £15 uninsured. Can do insurance but would cost a bit more. If you live nearby and want to have a look and a play, you're welcome.

  17. Never really considered one of these in my eight years of playing, though I've owned a number of Epiphone Thunderbirds. Took one for a spin last week and discovered I've been missing something special. (Hipshot Supertone 3-point bridge and Magma black tapewounds.)

Solid flamed maple body wings 5-piece multilam neck-thru body with contrasting stringers (purple heart) Fingerboard Pao Ferro TCT pre-amp, Bartolini MTCC quad pickups Black hardware 24 fret double octave range 34" Scale String spacing +/-17mm (variable) 4400 grams

  20. Fantastic UK built compact 410 cab. Rated at 1200w and 4ohm, it's an ideal one cab solution. Celestion Neo Speakers, with adjustable tweeter and PX2 3k5 eminence crossover. It's a really great sounding cab and you literally couldn't buy the parts to build this cab for the asking price! Comes in at about 23kg according to my bathroom scales, not featherweight but I can lift and carry with 1 hand. It's 60cm (w) x 66cm (h) x 43cm (d), so very compact for a 410! Has been gigged and has some road rash - the worst of which is pictured - but overall looks great and is really solid. I've just replaced all 4 rubber feet as one was missing when I got it and replaced all 4 with slightly larger ones. It's also just has a new Logo fitted which I got direct from Mike at Zoot who used to build these. I've gigged it for the last few months, but going more and more IEM and also have 3 different size Ashdown cabs I can use when I need them, so moving this on to make some space and raise funds for a decent wireless system. Would consider trading for a decent wireless set up, or possibly a 5 String Fretless. Pickup from Essex or may meet at a reasonable distance.

  26. Played a wedding on Saturday night... I was almost dreading it. I was a bit exhausted with the busy schedule this new band has and wasn't looking forward to the gigs. We had a minor disaster in that three of us drove one hour east to Chelmsford to find the wedding venue locked and not set up for a wedding. The singer was setting up for the gig in Hemel Hempstead when he realised he hadn't updated the rest of us on a change in venue. Cue an hour and a half driving west and the fastest set up EVER. No hard feelings, these things happen, on the bright side we realised if we don't faff about the set up can be done lightning quick. The gig itself was really good fun. We played in a small space and at a low volume. We had a good set for a wedding too, some party songs mixed in with the usual rock covers, and a different ending to what we usually do. A few new songs tried out. We had a blast. It restored some enthusiasm and I am buzzing for Friday's rock gig in a proper rock venue!

  27. I've been using a P bass and Markbass combo for a few years now and keep things pretty flat most of the time. EQ's at 12:00 and VLE and VPF at minimum. I find the VLE useful for taming new strings and somewhere between 09:00 and 10:00 works well. At higher volumes the VPF stops the mids being too sharp so a setting somewhere around 09:00 works for me. I then just EQ to taste depending on the room but it's not usually much. It's a great tone and sits really well in the mix. Sound guys love the DI out too.

  31. I've got the EHB1005 SMS version (short scale). Absolutely love everything about it. The ergonomics are just spot on, and the fan frets make playing ordinary' straight frets' seem so last century

  32. And another. The bass part to 'The Twlight Zone'. For the record, I did all three last night. Took me about two hours in total. I can read all of these cold (relatively slow tempos and repetitive lines helps). I remember when I first started listening to Rush and thought that Geddy Lee was the man! I love the fact that I can now play pretty much all of his lines from the dots without having to 'learn' them (I didn't really learn these properly at the time I was listening to them in earnest as doing so was that much more difficult in those days before computers and Transcribe software). It is easy to think you aren't improving when you are looking at your playing on a day to day basis but, looking back on these tunes, I am playing things cold that the 17 year old me thought were absolutely exceptional at the time. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/the-twilight-zone-rush/

  33. I remember getting absolutely smashed with them in around 2003/2004 at the Welsh Music awards at he Coal Exchange in Cardiff as we were on the same table - those free Jack Daniels cocktails had a lot to answer for........ woke up at 9am in my hotel room, flat out on my back with a full roast beef baguette, crisps and salad on a plate atop my chest - I'd ordered food from room service, then fallen asleep before I could eat it!!

  35. I've just joined the ranks of Ibanez owners with an SRF705, which is jolly nice. The piezo bridge was a significant factor in wanting this. If only they'd put piezo bridge saddles on the EHB1505 and done a fretless version...

  37. Selling a gorgeous Sandberg TT4 This bass is in as new condition. Apart from one tiny nick in the lacquer (the size of a pencil tip) other than that there are no marks, scratches or any signs of wear at all. The neck is finished in satin and is extremely smooth to play. The bass is around 9lbs (bathroom scales) and the balance is perfect. This is the active version so controls are volume (pull for passive), balance, treble, bass. It has Lollar pickups and they sound so smooth and punchy Optional Upgrades are as follows: -High gloss finish over natural ash body -Rosewood neck -Mother of Pearl block inlays -2 band active eq (active/passive option) -Lollar pickups It comes with the padded Sandberg gig bag, spec sheet, manual and Allen keys. I have all packaging to ship overseas. I use UPS fully insured. PM for price

  41. Borrowed this bass for a couple of weeks and it's just a great Jazz bass. Does all the things you'd want from a Jazz, neck pickup is warm and the bridge gives the classic Jaco bite. Can't imagine this will stick around for long!

  42. Nice list… 1. respectfully disagree….A 1960’s vintage sunburst makes my heart flutter. 2 yup 3. Yup 4. Don’t want a bass that looks like a 60’s single guy’s coffee table. Big solid slab of ash or maple….yes please! 5. yup…dumbest thing since my biggest pet peeve…tba 6. Any kind of marker, or none, is fine with me…got a handmade bass with dots. my own #1…(let’s call it #7)…”distressed” or “road worn” finishes. Any battle scars on a bass should be EARNED….ex. See that gouge…that’s where I knocked the singer’s teeth out….(no singers were hurt in the making of this post) You want a player’s bass…play it.

  45. A sad day for sure. I remember when Vigier basses first arrived on these shores via the Bass Center in Wapping. They were stunningly beautiful basses in those days. Nick Beggs had a white fretless one he played on TOTP with Kajagoogoo. It looked amazing, the zenith of bass exotica at that time ( about 1984). Vigier retiring another indication of how that era is getting to be rather a long time ago. Every day I am confronted with reminders of that fact closer to home ie my knackered prostate, grey hair, creaky knees ect, but the realisation that I will now never be able to buy a new Vigier or Pedulla is what really brings it home to me that I am getting old.
