  1. Up for grabs - my last remaining bass (having sold my Wal on here back in 2013, and my Sei Bass a couple of years ago...) It's an early Dolphin Pro 1 - with the usual early-model woods and Bartolini pickups. In good condition, just a few light wear marks from resting thumbs and fingers in the usual places around the pickups. It's been sitting around unplayed (I know, I'm sorry!) for years, so if it sells, I'll get it up to the guys at The Gallery for some TLC and new strings before shipping. Not a bass for the shy-and-retiring bassist, I ran this through a mix of Trace and Hartke stacks and it never failed to delver a *huge* sound 🙂 Attached a couple of pictures, and if there's any interest I'm happy to take some more. Extra info: The scribble on the back is Hans-Peter Wilfer's, it says "For Peter from Peter", and he signed it after I'd picked this bass out of a row of 10 Dolphins at the factory. He said "Yes, that's the best one", and it turns out it's the one that was used in all the promotional material at the time. I have a copy of the UK A4 factsheet with pictures of this bass, and can include this with the bass if anyone's interested. Pretty sure the signature stuff will come off with a bit of alcohol, but I won't do that until the bass is sold...

  2. I am offering my Alleva Coppolo Precision clone. This is the Classic series with Nitro finish and nice Rosewood board. It is from his first years and therefore still with the comfortable body shaping. Same neck dimensions like my 61 PB. Some player wear but nothing serious. Everything works perfect. Plays wonderful with only 3730 g weight. Comes with a fresh setup and new strings and an original Alleva gigbag. Asking 3.700 Euro for it plus shipping from Duesseldorf/Germany. Only trade options: Alleva Coppolo LM5 MTD 534-21 F Bass with a nice top Ken Smith Neckthrough

  3. Some pics of my Stingray Special. This one is light and perfectly balanced. The roasted maple neck is slightly flamed, love it. Currently fitted with DR Hi Beams... sounds so good !

  4. I had one of these in 1983 and it was the only bass that was ever stolen from me. For that reason alone, I'd always wanted another. Not sure how many they ever made, but I now gather they were a 1983 only bass. This isn't mint, but it's in very nice condition. This is my '80s corner.

  5. Dragonfly Fat J5 Jazz up for grabs. This bass is absolutely awesome in terms of build quality, looks and sound. To get the full lowdown and hear this actual bass in the hands of a master, check out the video below. The Bass is 5 string custom Jazz Bass, Alder Body, 5 piece maple neck with walnut stringers, the headstock is capped in Maple and the fingerboard is flamed maple. The Bass is handmade and the finish and build quality is second to none, up there with Atelier, Xotic etc. The hardware is all high end GOTOH, the pick ups are hand wound Dragonfly customs, flush finished in walnut casings. The pre-amp is the Harrys Engineering DFBP-3, LOW/MID/TREBLE boost/cut, with mid notch. There is a mid cut/boost switch, active/passive select, master tone, master volume and balance. It's and absolute beast. It's in very good condition but does have a few small knocks as shown in the photos. Collection from Margate or buyer to arrange courier etc.

  6. Sorry, very little signal out there. Went well, only triggered the meter once at the start of the second half- another reason not to play Let Me Entertain You in my book but the singers do insist and I’m married to one of them…. We worked really hard on this gig, rebuilt our in-ears rig, had training on how to use them effectively (no amount of internet expertise could help us luddites) and rehearsed with a db meter to make sure. Venue was really happy, most importantly the bride was happy and it was worth the effort.

  7. Interesting proposition. Wonder if they’ll do the entire line.

  8. Don’t see many of these around… this one’s a factory original lined fretless in fairly good condition. There is a small section of missing paint on the rear. It’s strung with a set of labella black tape wounds that sound fantastic. Lovely quilted maple body and ebony fingerboard. Neck is maple / mahogany. 46mm at the nut. 19mm string spacing. 33 7/8” scale. 2 single coil p’ups with bridge piezo. I don’t have a case for this but It can be packaged securely for transit. The price includes UK delivery. Any trial / collection also welcomed.

  12. I'm not associated with them in any way, but thought it might be of interest to some lefties in the vicinity: https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/news/141576/ No idea what the guitar to bass ratio will be, but happy for this sort of event to be encouraged.

  14. Now sold! This is a Tacoma Thunderchief CB10C in the standard spec for the model, which is spruce top, mahogany back, sides and neck, and rosewood fingerboard. It has no built-in pick-up or electronics - acoustic only, but there are obviously various options for mics and pickups if you wanted to go down that route. These basses have become a modern classic, often described as 'the best acoustic bass guitar ever made'. Whether that's true or not, it's certainly in a different league to any other acoustic bass guitar I've ever played - a big, rich, resonant sound that can hold its own when playing with acoustic guitars, fiddles etc. This particular instrument is in almost new condition, as you can see from the pics - there are a few tiny marks here and there but it's exceptionally good for its age. The only really visible blemish is a patch of scuffing about where the right thumb would sit on the body. The build quality is extremely high - beautiful timber and really fine detailing everywhere. It's lightly built but very stable - taking it out of the case after six months without playing it, the bass was still more or less perfectly in tune. I'm only selling this because it doesn't get played enough (I play double bass as well, which has slightly taken over...) and I don't believe in good instruments being left lonely and unplayed! It comes in the original hard case, which is also very good quality.

  15. Of course no standard scale acoustic bass guitar is going to sound quite like an upright ('I cannae change the laws of physics!') but I thought this was a pretty good impersonation. Doesn't look as cool though. Nice job by Mr. Vliex who deserves more than 300 views on YouTube.

  17. Even the big names make mistakes. Ed Sheeran gave us his 'loop station' explanation last night explaining that everything you hear is live and then started 'Bad Habits'. What he forgot to do however, was change his guitar to one that was in the correct tuning for the song. Strangely, the ITV You Tube of 'Bad Habits' has been edited so well, it looks like it never happened. Fortunately someone who was there captured it for posterity 😂

  19. You’re all missing the point. Not only do you need a cab to match the head, you need both the 1x15 and the 4x10 that the same manufacturer has thoughtfully made available, so that you can be certain to cover the entire audio spectrum.

  20. I`m glad about this, not cos I dislike Ed Sheeran because I don`t, it just somehow makes a huge star seem more human, and def will make me feel better the next time I mess something up, I`ll just feel that I`m now in good company.

  21. @Mongo here's what I think: - get the X series over the normal 35TW because with the X series one the volume (output) does not drop much when using the coil tap - unlike the original 35TW where it drops significantly. - the push-pull volume pots will come included with the EMG pickups if you buy the new, they are part of the package - I would wait with the preamp, the BQC is a great system and has the mid control which many find very useful. So I'd intall the 35TWX and see (hear) If the preamp really needs to be changed

Otherwise it'd be staying, superb cab been really well looked after, carpet is in superb condition, the only wear is on the corner protectors, as you'd expect. This is the smaller 1x15 cab not the oversized one, stacks perfectly with the 2x10, not far of the same dimensions as the 2x10. 33. I guess you could get into the minutiae of it, but - in my opinion - it's not live. It's been done already, and it's being played back. Not that Ed cares what I think, mind.

  34. Since you mentioned iMovie I assume that you are using a Mac to do this? I was aware that Reaper for Windows requires some additional files to be able to import .mov files (which is what your iPhone will be producing) but I would have thought that the Mac version of Reaper shouldn't need these. Anyway at the moment the easiest way to sort out this problem on any future video recording you need to make would be to to set the project sampling rate in Reaper to 48kHz to match your video.

  36. There's been a few posts here and there about whether they'll fold or continue and speculation as who would take over on drums if they chose the latter. I can't even begin to imagine how they would fill the void Taylor Hawkins has left but I do strongly believe that if they choose to continue, Dave Grohl is so adored by their fans that if he gives the new guy his seal of approval this would lead to an almost unanimous acceptance by fans.

  37. Different sample and/or frame rates between the recorded audio and the video? Check that they are both the same. If this is the problem, I suspect it will be easier to change the audio to match that of the phone video, so find out what that is and then set up the audio inputs so that it matches.

  39. Not sure whether this qualifies, I am a dyed in the wool Precision player and so the overall shape etc is hardly new to me. Something about this beaten up bass just called to me, from the Bass Gallery website, and I bought it at first sight. It now sports a tort scratchplate and is either called 'the wreck' or my Bo-Rap bass. It was (from the back) once sunburst. Lovely slim B profile neck. Interestingly, the lug that holds the pickup screw on the E string side, has been cut down so there's far more purchase for the thumb. Brilliant idea. The bass was (apparently) put together from bits in Mo Foster's parts drawer.

  40. Never say never. The only reason I'm GAS free at the moment is the Gear Abstinence thread which I am determined to win. Stubbornness and an aversion to the walk of shame trumps GAS, it would seem. But next year, I'll probably buy something, having learned nothing

  43. The big SMX and it's cabs happily sat in the live room at the studio. I've not used it myself much this year although it's seen some action featuring on a few sessions and sounding great - as ever. 😃 There have been no issues and the rig remains 100% reliable - no doubt, it's just as good as the day it came out of the factory. 💯 Up in the control room, the 'mini mighty' rig now sit's in the spot previously occupied by the 400. 😃 The two setups do sound (a little) different but I'll put 90% of that difference down to the 4x8 vs the 2x10 - both fifteens feature the same driver plus it goes without saying, the pre-amp stage is identical. Yes, the 400 has more I/O options and features but in terms of tonal control, there's no difference One thing that is apparent is that the 300SMX is a little noisier both in terms of fan and background noise. I'll do some 'gut shots' when I get chance as I've not yet been inside this one. I assume it's fitted with the notorious 'bipolar bear' power stage although the previous owner didn't mention any failures and he'd owned it all from new.. 😬

  47. Not sure if you are still building your board/mains, but I did a similar thing on a board I built. Used one of these, with a fuse and switch, and joined them to the extention board with an inline connector. All screws, no soldering or bare wires and all available from Amazon. Only tricky part is makeing the hole to take the socket, and fitting it all in. Make sure everyrhing is held down though, nice strong velcro.

  48. I posted in the Wanted this time last week and also put a Bass up for sale in the Classifieds. On Wednesday I had someone offer me the Bass I was after and another person offered to buy the Bass I was selling too! What's even better they both live reasonably close to each other so I'm driving up on Friday to drop off mine and pick up the new one, so not having to worry about Couriers jumping on the Basses! Proof both Wanted and For Sale works ( for me)!

  49. Purchased this here on Basschat a few months ago. It was well loved and used on tour and hence showed signs of wear (it was originally copper penny). It was a perfect candidate for one of custom sunburst paint jobs. Before painting I moved the jack to the control plate and routed the body to accommodate the moved volume control. Not the most elegant paint job, but it's perfect for a players bass. Weighs in at 3.65kg (8.07lbs) and strung with d'Addario Chrome flatwounds. Edit: I also found a gig bag I can ship it in Well boxed as well of course! This bass already looks well aged and will continue to mellow nicely with the thin nitro paint. The EMG GZR pick ups are fabulous. They make this bass shine. The original harness and pickups will be included. Happy to ship the bass, but often travel between London and the South Coast. Playing the Half Moon Putney this weekend if anyone wants free entry and do the bass deal there! Or, for another £75I can include a SKB bass safe to ship it in.
