  1. Rare occasion I overdid the wine last night… used to be every week. Always came with hilarious consequences. Spotted this on Facebook marketplace earlier in the day…”damn that’s nice…must behave” Anyhow: apparently at 2am this morning, just before going to bed… I bought a bass… Could've been worse. Damn PayPal interest free.

  2. I try to avoid hyperbole in ads but this really is a fabulous bass in every respect. I acquired it recently from jay-syncro (fantastic deal) but it's just too long/big for me - as with any other Precision. I only play short-scales and should have known that I wouldn't get on with a long-scale (I've had enough of them for this to be evident). Jay-syncro's ad is here (and there's a link through to the original Walshy ad): It's a Bass Monkey (Walshy) build and an extremely high vintage spec. as follows: Hand-built lightweight swamp ash body Allparts licensed US Precision neck (quarter-sawn maple, 1.625" nut width and ebony board - lots of 'ping') Nitro finish in LBP including MHS - finishing undertaken by Dave Wilson Fender TV logo Gotoh res-o-lite vintage reverse wind tuners Badass II Bridge Kent Armstrong vintage pickup CTS pots and Switchcraft jack Fender F neck plate Weight 3.75kg The bass is extremely well put together, and is built exclusively from premium parts and materials. Condition is excellent with some light swirling in the nitro finish. The Dave Wilson finish is superb as one would expect and the LPB is very vibrant. The grain in the neck is lovely, though I should note that the some of the lacquer on the back of the neck is worn through up to around the fifth fret. I actually rather like this effect and have had the lacquer taken back on previous Fender-type basses to reduce the potential for 'stickiness'. The neck feels very slick indeed. The bass sounds to me like a '70s P - a big round bottom-end but the potential for some aggression and clank with the tone wound up. Playability is superb. I had the bass set-up with 40-95 D'Addario Nickel rounds. The set-up is excellent and the bass has an extremely low action. I actually dropped the action a little when the bass came back from set-up as I play with a very light touch and stupidly low action (too low for almost anybody else). As a result there's a bit of sizzle on the D at the 19th fret and on the E and A from around the 14th fret. This could be removed with a slight adjustment of string height (indeed, I'll do this if any buyer would prefer). The action will remain low. I have a little over £800 in the bass in total but I'm willing to sell at £725. I think this represents quite a bargain. Please take a look at the images - jay-syncros are better than mine (I hope this is OK jay) but please ask if you want anything specific in terms of photographs - or any further details. The bass can be collected from Manchester or if a buyer would prefer, I can pack the bass (in its included Thomann hard case - again, very good condition) and the buyer can organise a courier - at their own cost and risk, of course. I can be around to hand over to couriers.

  3. Just felt the need to post a brief update on my JMJ Mustang now I’ve had it for a few months. I’m sure it’s been said many times, but my God, they got this bass so right. It really is my perfect s/s bass and now largely all I play in my band. For me it’s got future classic written all over it. I finally got around to switching the pickguard too. Also switched to black screws. Think I’ll be doing the same with the pickup screws now too.

  4. Yamaha BB434 for sale. Black with rosewood fingerboard, passive 4 string. This is a 2017 model, which has no dings whatsoever, it seems to be in perfect condition to me. If you have never played a BB before, they do a great P bass sound, the bridge pup adds a bit of top end to this if so desired. Using the bathroom scales it appears to weigh 4.1 Kg, however, this may not be perfectly accurate; I weighed myself then weighed myself again with the bass a couple of times to get the figure. Cash on collection. I live very close to the junction of the M25 and the A1 and even closer to High Barnet tube station. If anyone wants to try it out feel free to arrange a visit. Any questions? Please ask.

  8. Your not the only one, feel no guilt, as I said earlier I once bought an Austin Healey under the influence of drink off eBay. Shock of my life in the morning when the offer was accepted… I did have one hell of a summer out if it though, top down, warm hazy days and English country roads 😂🤣

  9. Looks like my hunch was right.... Quite a few people on facebook now complaining that people are asking for full serial numbers, then reporting the bass in question as stolen and giving the serial number number as 'proof' it was theirs.... Be careful everyone, as if there wasnt enough scams around......

  10. Great gig last night. New owners at a pub that hadn't done music for a while, who wanted to see how it went. They had the ex landlady of one of our regular pubs working there, so he asked her who was the best to get in, so she said us, which was nice. Didn't really know what to expect, probably not so much as the pub is a bit tucked away. By the time we were set up it was really busy, and by half time it was heaving and they had reached their limit of people they could have in the pub. People were responsive and obviously up for a good time. Not sure how much of the 'not much music around for the last few years' there was, although there were other gigs that night in town, and certainly most of the people there we had seen at other gigs. Took the spector for the first time gigging and it was fantastic, balanced, comfortable and so clear on the top end compared to a lot of basses. Very comfortable to play. I think it might make its way to be one of my preffered gigging basses!

  13. I have been procrastinating about this for months but I am finally reconciled to parting with my beautiful Zoot Funkmeister Custom, made for me by Mike Walsh. If it weren't for the impending arrival of a new Zoot and the fact I already have another 3, I would be keeping hold of this but pragmatism and space have won out. I'm looking for £1,200 - a considerable amount less than the same spec would cost to be built new. EDIT: For interested parties with cashflow issues I'm happy to take payment in 2-3 instalments over a couple of months if wanted. Delivery/collection on receipt of final payment. Even by Mike's (our very own Cosmicrain) usual high standards this is a bit special. It has an exhibition grade flamed maple top which really has to be seen to be believed - the pictures don't do it justice at all - with matching headstock, both finished in a deep amber/antique brown colour. Body is mahogany laminate with maple veneers separating the two layers and the top wood. The hardware is custom (black/gold mix) USA Hipshot throughout, with Haeussel pickups and a John East U-retro (3 band with para mids) preamp (18v) with passive switching and tone control. Neck is a 5 piece laminate of roasted maple and tiger striped blue jarra. As you can imagine, it has tone to die for: Specifications: BODY: Two piece mahogany with maple veneers between. TOP: Exhibition grade flamed maple finished in deep amber/antique brown with matching headstock NECK: 5 piece laminate of roasted maple and tiger striped blue Jarra. 32" scale' 37.5mm nut width. STRING SPACING: 17.5mm at bridge FINGERBOARD: Macassar ebony, approx 16/18" radius. Medium jumbo frets with rolled fingerboard edges HARDWARE: Custom Hipshot (USA) in black and gold PICKUPS: Custom Haeussel Slan humbucker Jazz-type PREAMP: John East U-retro with passive switch and tone. Wired for 18v WEIGHT: Approx 9lbs based on the tried and trusted bathroom scales method It's a great bass and a fantastic example of a top luthier's work. Completely clean and in 'as new' condition - no scratches, buckle rash or marks of any kind. Plays like a dream and sounds fantastic. Currently strung with Roto steel roundwounds (40-90). I'm happy to demo if anyone cares to visit Bass Culture Towers in Chester - tea and cat tickling will be optional extras. So, if anyone fancies a top quality custom bass, at a greatly reduced price - without the 12 + month wait, and with 'easy payment' option - you know what to do! Pick up is preferable for obvious reasons but I do have a spare Hiscox lite flight case I can send it in if needed (for, say, £40), so the buyer is welcome to arrange delivery by their preferred courier and it will be securely and safely packaged. Any questions - just shoot. Oh - and sale only please. Not looking for any trades.

  14. Here's my Bass Collection Jive Bass in beautiful King Crimson. Only mark on her is a 5p size ding just below the bridge strap button (see pics) East preamp removed, this is now with its original passive VVT control plate. These are probably the best bang for your buck of any J style in this price range and considering the new ones have just increased in price, grab a great bargain on a great bass. Only selling as I have far too many J style basses atm. Collection or meet within an hour of Milton Keynes preferred. Any questions, just let me know. PS. Dog NOT included, I just couldn't shift his lazy derrière when taking the pics. Cheers

  17. When using heavier parts (like 20 watt resistors), provided the smaller part is properly specified, I see more mechanical damage from the larger parts being not well secured to the PCB. With the larger resistors, they must be mechanically secured in addition to being soldered. All it takes is the cabinet falling over to cause such mechanical damage.

  20. Played a rather rough pub in a northern suburb of Brum last night. It was packed and they loved us (we always deliver a big crowd) but too many idiots and pi55heads for my liking. Plus the landlord didn't offer us a drink before or after the gig and has the bloody cheek to switch to online payment and forcing me to wait for my money. On the plus side the stage sound was excellent and I dropped barely a bum note all night. The Squier Cv P once again delivered the goods with ease and comfort. It really is a terrific instrument and I can't understand why the GAS for another P bass just won't subside 🤷‍♂️

  22. First chance to play a full set with the new band last night in a pub in Crawley. It’s a long time since I did a full two hours plus a couple of encore numbers, got in at 1am. Shattered today but well worth it, place was bouncing at the end. Best moment was when our singer said halfway through the first set “can we all just stop a moment to appreciate how good the bass sounds”. I doubt the audience cared but it was nice to hear.

  23. I had the SuperTwin before the Two10s but found them too transparent for my taste, so I moved to Two10s and immediately found them to have more character. I would say that Two10s are best with tubes - they just sing with them. I found with SS/class d amps tend to become too woolly through them. But I do think they definitely go beyond this notion old school. Jah Wobble and Tim Commerford use them and I personally don't consider these players 'old school'. Ultimately, I don't think it is a fair test to compare 12s with 10s, it's like a night and day comparison. Both are fabulous amps, just depends as ever on your tone goals. The only way you will truly know is by trying one out - ask any two BCs here and you'll get a different opinion ;-). Even if you buy one used you'll get your money back as they are very popular cabs.

  27. Don’t be precious about the sound on stage. If it seems like the stage sound won’t be great then as long as you can hear what you want to hear that’s enough. Don’t spend hours in sound check chasing the unattainable. It will probably sound different when you play anyway. Don’t concern yourself with FOH sound. 99% of people won’t care and won’t notice that special pedal you used on the middle 8 of the fourth song. You won’t hear the FOH sound anyway. Unless you’re doing your own sound. ALWAYS change your clothes before playing. Even if it’s just a different t-shirt. At least look like you’re making an effort and haven’t just walked in off the street. Take spare shoes. If it’s hammering down during load-in you don’t want wet feet al night. Make sure all of your gear is working before the gig. Always stretch before you play. Hands are most important but arms, legs, neck, anything else is also important if you do anything more than stand still. Especially as you get older.

  29. I look at it differently than some of you. At 68 and pensioned I love gigging. I'm not a fan of long hour late night bar gigs and driving home at 2:30 in the morning and we don't play those type of gigs anymore. We tapped into the lucrative upscale Brewery and Winery market with our acoustic offering. Great afternoon hours, I'm usually home by 8:00. Classy patrons as well. I kind of fell butt backwards into this type of work. Blue

  31. 10 watts will be plenty, multiply the (~25W) RMS power rating of the compression driver by~ 1/3 (the ratio of 4.7 ohms / 8 ohms) and you will see a maximum power dissipation of about 8.25W, which is pretty much the absolute worst case that the resistor will see. In actuality, given the crossover frequency and the power spectrum density for bass guitar, it will be about 1/2 of this value. I have used this formula and approach in commercial speakers for decades without any problems.

  36. If that was the case then a strat could be humbucking as well as in positions 2 and 4 it is. I wonder if it was a bit of sloppy writing when it was launched and the person doing the specs just looked at a picture and thought 'looks like a humbucker' As an aside, I do like Lobster. He's a proper bass nut who just seems to love the instrument. Of course he makes every bass sound like him, just like all the other youtube instrument demo players, but he's great anyway. And as silly as it is - I love the lobster hand thing. The world needs more silliness.

  37. Easy. My £60 CSL Jazz, picked up from a pawn shop in 2004-ish with the intention of running it under the tap & flipping it for a quick profit. Nicest bass I've ever played, simple as that. It's had a few shiny bits stuck on it, but even when I gave it a quick go in the shop, with strings from 4 different sets & one pickup not working, I knew it was something special.

  38. I bought this yesterday for £400 thinking I really needed it, not realising that it's not great at what I wanted it to do, namely barre chords to fill space (being due to my arthritic fingers not being able to hold all the strings down anymore The place I bought it from had done the two things that are on all the 'improve' sites ie. put barrels in the bridge inserts to stabilise it and alter the bass E string bridge screw so that it intonates properly. It's also got new Fender Super 250's bass Vi strings (the ones it came with from the factory will come with it too). It's also had the white scratch plate changed to a mint green one (white one will come too), which gives it a great 60's vibe. It is unmarked and as new. I might trade for a short scale 5 string bass or electric upright bass. Let me know what you've got. I'm happy to post. This is what Squier say about it: The Classic Vibe Bass VI is a faithful tribute to the secret weapon of producers and adventurous players that have dared to explore it since its original production from 1961 to 1975. Tuned an octave lower than a guitar and featuring a vintage-style tremolo, the Bass VI is the perfect companion to accompany any guitar or bass player into uncharted territory. Player-friendly features include a slim and comfortable "C"-shaped neck profile with an easy-playing 9.5"-radius fingerboard and narrow-tall frets, as well as a floating bridge with barrel saddles. 39. Barefaced Big Baby T up for grabs in great condition. As with most Barefaced products it sounds great, weighs next to nothing and is loud as hell. This 3-way cab preceded the Big Baby II and is very similar sounding, although I'd be tempted to say that this has more low end capabilities.. absolutely monstrous! 42. I played a gig last night with Robbie Blake, the guitarist from The Karma Effect (not the lead singer/guitarist - the other guitarist). I didn't know him or the band until he turned up as he was an eleventh hour dep who kindly agreed to help us out. What an incredibly humble and talented guy he is. He might not even have mentioned his band unless I'd quizzed him on what else he was doing musically. I've now had an opportunity to listen to the album which is available on all streaming platforms and I really like it (I've also bought the CD version). Being a fan of Blackberry Smoke/The Black Crowes, it's right up my street. Anyway, I just thought I would share in case anyone else liked this sort of thing. I don't know if their bassist Liam Quinn is on here, but if you are mate - nicely done 👏. This is the debut single from the album.

  46. Working on a strict one-in, one-out basis, I am reluctantly putting up for sale my Ibanez EHB1000S in Sea Foam Green. This bass has only been gigged 4 times and is in very good condition. I have replaced the OEM Bartolini pickups with Aguilar DCBs. This is a solderless conversion (see photo) using connector blocks, making it easy to reverse, or fit a different set of pickups. In addition to the Aguilar pickups, I have replaced the plastic knobs with metal ones and put 50-105 D’Addario nickel rounds on it, which seem more balanced than the hybrid set it came with. Condition wise neck, frets and fretboard are all perfect as far as I can see. There are a few little dings on the residual headstock from changing the strings: almost impossible to avoid IMO. The top of the headstock is a little faded at the corners (see pic), I think from rubbing in the gig bag, as I haven’t bashed, or scraped it. The body is perfect except for one tiny paint chip by the front strap button, where it came unscrewed (also pictured). I have glued in a bit more wood into the hole and put a dab of wood glue on the screw, so I don’t think it is going to come out again, unless you deliberately unscrew it. The full spec can be found here on the Ibanez website: https://www.ibanez.com/na/products/detail/ehb1000s_1p_01.html. Briefly it is a 30” scale, extremely ergonomically designed instrument. Plenty of contours and a super light chambered body mean you can play it for hours without discomfort. It balances really well on a strap with no perceivable neck dive. It’s 41mm at the nut, so it’s not going to feel cramped, if you like a P Bass but because the neck profile is quite a shallow D, those of us with short fingers don’t struggle either. An advantage of the headless design is you use standard length strings, clamp them and then cut off the excess. This means you have a much greater choice of strings for a shorty and you don’t have to pay the short scale premium. Pricing: I haven’t been able to find any precedents, so I’ll explain how I got to my asking price. These retail for £799-830 according to my research. I paid £800. Because it has a few marks (as described) I would bring it down to 3/4 of new price (£600). However, I paid £220 for the Aguilars, £30 for the metal knobs and £25 for the strings. Strings I discount completely, ditto the knobs but £95 seems a bargain for the Aguilars. Obviously it will come with the stock gig bag and the unused finger ramp. This is priced to sell quickly but obviously you are welcome to make an offer. You will get the original knobs and strings. For the asking price I’ll throw in the OEM Barts. This is a one-in, one-out, so I’m not really interested in a trade. The only thing I might go for would be a a similar condition Hofner Contemporary Violin bass with extra cash from your side. You can try and buy in Fakenham, Norfolk. Not convenient for most I know, so I will travel to handover/meet around 60 miles, or so. I have the original box, so can ship at buyer’s expense. It’s going to be around £30-35 by UPS with full insurance.
