  1. FOR SALE : Pedulla Pentabuzz, serial #7619, 2000 build This Pentabuzz has been seen before here – I traded it from bassatnight last year (he was an absolutely excellent seller !), and it was on sale at Bass Direct at one point. It is a fabulous experience to play and to listen to, and I will never own a better instrument. However, I want to refocus my collection to 70s / 80s basses only, so something has to give… The best way I can describe the Pentabuzz is that is like an ‘uber-fretless’ ; it somehow encapsulates everything that fretlesses are all about, and takes it to the next level The sound is unique and highly distinctive, ‘maximum fretless’ - even before plugging it in. I think this is down to the through neck, combined with the epoxy – coated fretboard, which is as smooth as glass and is an intoxicating recipe for seamless glides, wobbles, mwaahs and growls. It is the feeling of total expressive freedom, and because the action can be set so low (in fact, it has to be, to get the trademark Pentabuzz growl), it is just so very fast to play. The Bartolinis and active tone controls allow pretty much any sound to be dialled in. The low B is not there for special effects, it is articulate and clear, and just becomes part of the overall sonic pallette. (I had never played a 5 string before, but it soon becomes second nature). The spec is as follows : everything works. It has a couple of miniscule lacquer pocks, a bit of checking on the back, and that is it – see the photos · 4A flame maple body in turquoise trans. Finish, maple through neck, epoxy / polyester fingerboard · 34” scale, double acting truss bar · 19mm string spacing at bridge (but adjustable) · Controls : volume, pan, bass boost / cut, treble boost / cut, mid boost / cut (toggle) · Gloss poly finish, gold plated hardware It comes with a nice robust case, although I have never taken it out of the house, apart from to photograph it… I’m not completely sure I want to sell it, because there won’t be any more of these made, but isn’t that always the way ! I would be interested in a trade for something like a pre EB Sabre fretless, if there are any around ! Any questions – please ask – thanks Chris

  2. For sale (no trades) is my rare 1980 Ibanez RS800BK Roadster, this is the original RoadstEr (not to be confused with the later RoadstAr, or cheaper mid 80’s RoadstAr II Series). The original Roadster Series were made between 1979-81 at the legendary Fujigen Gakki factory in Japan during the golden period of Japanese guitar and bass production. The original Roadster Series alongside the Musician Series were the top of the range Ibanez basses, made by hand, sharing the same hardware and Super 4 pickups. Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy toured playing the Ibanez RS900 Roadster - essentially same bass but with 2-band active electronics. The RS800 has passive electronics. Made January 1980, all original, has a gloss black mahogany body and lacquered rock maple neck. The neck features some neat Ibanez tech called “TR Tuned Response” which basically eliminates dead spots. Sweetheart nickel tuners. Accu-Cast B High Mass bridge, and the Ibanez Super 4 high output single coil pickup. The electrics work clean, no noise or static turning pots. The bass does have marks, scratches and dings commensurate with age, mostly to the back and sides, in very good condition for a bass 42 years old. The neck has a 41mm nut, super comfy to play like all Ibanez necks from this period. The positioning of the Super 4 pickup produces a P-Bass / Stingray / Rick type sound dependant on strings. The pickup has a heavy mid bias with thumping low-end and crisp highs. Now Sold

  3. Hi, It’s David here - ex CBG. Thank you for all the kind words, I am indeed okay but since 2017 have had multiple ongoing family health issues which unfortunately meant that everything Bass related (as well as other things!) were pretty much abandoned. With hindsight, I would have loved to have reached out at the time and explained the situation, and of course thanked all my great customers for so many enjoyable and pleasant transactions and communications......as I say, with hindsight, so apologies. I am most unlikely to resurrect CBG so will just be a regular bassist suffering from GAS! It also means a few personal Bass related items will soon be listed under MungoBass. David

  4. Small music pub in Stowmarket, The Pickerel Inn. Hardly anyone there but those that were made it feel like we were playing Glasto. Even the A12 being shut and diverted through unlit country lanes couldn't take the shine off the night. And - bonus point - drummer took the pa, which I usually babysit, having realised his seats fold flat to give a van-type space. Precedent set.

  6. This is sadly completely unused right now so I've decided to see if there is any interest in it. It's a gorgeous Fender Japan unlined Fretless neck from 1987-88 with original tuners in super overall condition and minimal fingerboard wear. I had a P Bass shaped body built by Guitar and Bass Builds in Oxford with the following specs: - 2 piece swamp ash body - natural gloss lacquered finish - Jazz bass pickup rear routing in (from memory) 60's spacing. - matching rear control cavity. They've done a lovely job and chosen some really nice wood for the natural finish. It is sporting a Fender high mass bridge (a la Badass) and EMG Jazz pickups with wiring loom (battery on the rear cavity). The controls are VVT. Weight-wise it's 9lbs 5oz. The whole lot cost around £900 to put together and it plays superbly but is sadly just not being used. I'm looking for £650. It doesn't come with a case or gigbag, but if someone wants it couriered I'll make sure to bomb-proof and will post insured included in the price. Alternatively it can be picked up near Monmouth or Bristol, or I'm happy to meet an hour away from either.

  8. Did a guest appearance at our local metal to the masses final last night. Not gigged since desertfest and whilst it was only a 30min set, nice to blow the cobwebs off. Matamp and barefaced combo with the Spector sounded great and got to crank stage volume a bit. Gigs on hold for a while now until we've finished the next album ✌️

  10. First gig for a while, it’s a repeat booking for a local prom. Strange one on paper but we always get a cracking reception. We adapt the set a bit and Chuck in a few more modern ones. Ended up playing three hours and loving it but boy am I knackered this morning!

  13. £325 collected from Bristol. Sale only - not interested in any trades. I can post within the UK for £20. This is a great Precision bitsa in beautiful vintage white, with (removable) pickup & bridge chrome covers and tug bar completing the old school look. With its flatwounds strings, I've been enjoying playing Motown on it - but a Precision suits most musical styles. Body The body is from a 2013 Fender Squier Matt Freeman Precision. Colour: Vintage White Body Material: Basswood Hardware: Chrome Bridge: 4-Saddle HiMass Bridge with Brass Saddles Misc: Knurled Chrome Dome Control Knobs, Tug Bar. The original electronics developed an intermittent crackle, so they have been removed and a KiOgon loom was installed this week. This has a solderless pickup connection, so it's very easy if you did want to experiment with other pickups. Having said that, the stock pickups sound great to me and I never felt the need to change them. The bridge and pickup covers were imported from America (due to the HiMass bridge being a slightly different size to a standard Fender bridge). The tort pickguard is a replacement; I don't have the the original black one. There is a small scratch by the G-string side of the bridge. There are some paint imperfections near the neck join. The chrome pickup cover has some wear on it - only visible from some angles. Neck The neck is from a 2021 Fender Squier Classic Vibe 60s Precision Bass. Neck Material: Maple Neck Finish: Tinted Gloss Urethane Neck Shape: "C" Shape Scale Length: 34" (86.36 cm) Fingerboard Material: Indian Laurel Fingerboard Radius: 9.5" (241 mm) Fret Size: Narrow Tall Nut Width: 1.685" (42.8 mm) The tuners are the stock ones; however there are alternate screw holes underneath where third-party tuners were previously installed. Misc The neck join is ok but not air-tight (this is cosmetic). Strung with new Adagio flats. Weight on digital kitchen scales: 3.975kg (8lb 12oz) without the chrome covers. Happy to answer any questions so please just ask if you need any more photos or information.

  16. the offer of a quality biscuit has now expired, or should i say eaten, i now have only cheap sh!t in, rich tea, not even real ones at that, but aldi ones. also the tea has taken a somewhat downward spiral in quality, gone are the Twinings extra special limited edition Mediterranean selection infused with wild flowers and herbs from 10 different countries, this is due to sheer gluttony on my behalf, but fear not, aldi has come trumps again, albe it with their cheapest tea flavored powder, where you do infact get a couple of real tea crumbs in every bag. if there is any change to the menu you will be notified with out delay. BUT..please NOTE ..The management has the right to change the menu without notice, the offer is not refundable for any other products or cash payment other than intended herein. furthermore the offer above may be removed without notice at any time. 🙂

  22. Made the mistake of gigging in the west country during Glastonbury weekend. The handful of folk there gathered enjoyed the band. I enjoyed my new bass, but didn't enjoy not stuffing crumpled notes into my back pocket at the end of the evening. Green King. Wonder when we'll get paid?

  26. Idles are one of the handful of bands around at the moment that if I were in my 20’s would be seeing live whenever possible. I haven’t seen any coverage of Khruangbin yet but they would also be on my must see list. In the years I went to Glastonbury the official numbers were less than 70000 (with gatecrashers probably more like 100000) and tickets were less than £40. I can’t see me going these days unless I win some sort of competition that includes helicopter travel and accommodation in an airstream with complimentary chief and sommelier!

  27. Encore Fretless P Bass for sale. Good low cost fretless bass plays nicely and sounds great. Strung with Rotosound Tape wound flat wound strings. If you are looking for a cheap fretless this could be the one for you. This bass does have a number of bumps and dings including a small mark for the fretboard approx at 1st fret on the E string but nothing that affects the playability of the bass. I had a new nut professionally fitted when i got the bass a couple of years ago as When I got it the old one was broken and it had a set up and the fretboard lemon oiled at the same time. Any trials or inspections welcome in Downend Bristol. I would much prefer collection but I can post at the buyers cost and risk and can also include a hard case (hiscox or stagg) for £25.

  28. I just bought this secondhand. I really like it. Shortscale. 30.3" I think. Was looking for a playable but not too expensive bass for noodling and recording. Single humbucker pup. I preferred this over the newer G2220 as it has a genuine Rosewood fretboard rather than Walnut on the G2220. Very deep sound to it. Came with flatwounds, which I thought I'd swap out, but, I really like em. Reminds me a bit of Peter Hooks sound on early Joy Division. Never expected such a small bass to have such a big sound. Can't find many online reviews of this but some specs say it's a Basswood body, but it feels heavy for Basswood more like Poplar. Really comfortable Maple neck. It has a nice low action and is easy to move around on. I nearly went the Squier route but I'm very glad I didn't. If I had any criticism I'd say it's a little quieter on the low E (acoustically too). But I've heard this is common on shortscale basses. But it goes nice and low freq on the E. More than happy with it overall.

  31. Well I’ve just made the decision to gig Mexican made Fender Precisions. The band I gig with does those venues where there’s never enough proper storage space to leave the gear lying around so rather than take my US ones along and be paranoid about them all evening I’ll gig the MIMs (2 in my Mono Dual M80). Not that I don’t care about them, just that they’re not worth as much. Perfectly fine for gigging and if anyone thinks I’m a lesser bassist so what!

  35. McCartney did a warm up show at our local yesterday. Apparently an excellent performance from the whole band. Tickets were only £25 and people still moaned it was too expensive! I got the email announcing the show on Thursday and fifteen minutes later an email to say it was sold out. Impressive considering ticket sales were in person from the venue only. Apparently Brian Johnson was there in the audience.

One is a party so that should be ok. the second is one of the first hill gigs sunday afternoon outdoor in the garden on a pub. 41. Was chatting with SWMBO about it (as we do every year); she went in 87 (I never did; it was Donington or nowt for me), when it was £21 to get in, and her and her friends parked their van just up the hill from the Pyramid Stage. She's always fancied going back, but I've pointed out that it'd be a very, very different experience, and not just because she wouldn't be 22 and stoned for the entire weekend...

  49. It does exist, but as you get older you care less about what someone is using and become more interested in why they are using it. Especially with amps, I’ve seen some ramshackle gear held together with gaffer tape and luck that sound amazing in the past.
