  1. Black and maple 2003 Fender US Precision Bass with original case. This instrument was my main bass for some time but a tendon issue means I’ve switched to a slimmer necked Musicman. The Precision weighs around 4.1kgs and is in great condition. The nut was replaced some years ago by Jack’s instruments repairs in Manchester. It’s the version with graphite rods and the S1 switch but this was bypassed and a normal pot replaced the switch - I’ll include the original so that it can be restored to stock. The original case booklets are included. The case has a few stickers on it but is sound. The bass is wonderful I have nearly sold it a couple of times but changed my mind but it hasn’t been played since I got my Musicman and I have an older P bass that has the sentimental attachment. There are scuffs and dings and one touched up spot near the strap button - as pictured. Neck is lovely with two minor dings and the trussrod turns and works as it ought to. There is a little lacquer chip and a hairline crack at the fingerboard end where the trussrod access is - this has been checked and it is cosmetic only. I may regret selling this one as it’s been the best modern era Precision I have owned. No trades, pickup preferred. I can post but at cost to buyer. A lovely USA Precision for under £800!

  5. Dropped price to £1,000 as I've got my eye on another Aerodyne, if that goes the price will be going back up. Dingwall D-Roc 4, bought new in January from Bassdirect. Only selling as I don't get on with the fanned frets/longer scale length. No marks on it at all, so it is essentially like new. The gigbag is a solid affair that is provided by Dingwall when bought new. I'm willing to listen to sensible cash offers. Pictures were taken quickly on my lunch, if you have any questions or want more pictures feel free to drop me a message. I can deliver within reason for diesel money.

  8. So my best mate from school was returning from Atanta, GA to the UK and it would have been rude not to get him to reunite onstage with me for the first time since 1990. We'd recently gotten the drummer to do the same and although I couldn't get 4 schedules to match, he joined my duo for our first live performance in 32yrs. He's long stopped playing but plays a bit of ukulele so I sent him some videos and chord patterns. When we arrived at the venue, the PA guy hadn't shown up and the barman was particularly useless. However, I went on a charm offensive and he agreed we could do the songs unplugged. Nick the singer had a VERY powerful voice and I used his mandocello. History was made, albeit a history that won't matter too much to anyone not in the below picture. Hopefully my friend will be back next year and we'll aim to get the whole band back out of retirement. (if anyone is curious, the legs behind me belong to the promoter who insisted on busking along with us).

  9. NBD CIJ PB70 99 reissue - a beaut and super light. Love CIJ basses such quality builds, had a PB62 reissue and loved it but sold to fund custom build. I been after a natural PB70 but hardly see them, I just love a natural bass. I had the MIM FSR PB70 from think 2018 and the neck was superb but didn’t like the pups - should’ve changed them as regretted selling it. This might give my custom build a run for its money, got gig next week might take it out. Free set from Bass Bros too - recommend them

  10. An amazing bass, all stock, set up beautifully and plays and sounds like a dream. I just prefer the large neck of the RW P Basses. Not looking to trade for anything else. Comes in original gig bag with all case candy and set up with brand new 105 strings. I'll be genuinely sad to see the back of the Pure Vintage Pickups 😪

  11. So after wanting a stingray for many years and finally picking one up last year, I’ve realised I’m not an active bass guy (you live & learn!). Although I was initially blown away by the tone, I soon found myself reaching for my p or j bass instead. This bass has been in its case for months now and is not getting any use hence the sale. The guy who had it before me was a collector and I don’t think it’s had that much use. Certainly is in great condition. after about a week of having it I stupidly managed to chip a bit of paint below the battery compartment (see photo). Other than that it’s great! Collection only.

  12. Now £300 including UK shipping A Scott Dixon 210 rear ported bass cab - rated at 600 watts with two Celestion Drivers. Further details are available here: https://www.scottdixoninc.com/products/speaker-cabs/ Extremely light - about 13kg with the front lid and 11kg without. 8 Ohms. Two combination Speakon connectors. The cab is in excellent condition - a few minor marks from usage (mainly on knuckle corners) - this cab certainly hasn't been hammered and looks pretty much new. Built to the usual, ultra-high SD spec. - fit and finish is outstanding. I think these are around £650 (possibly £695) new, so £295 seems more than fair really. As above, I can ship in the UK for £300. Very easy one-hand lift/carry with the recessed handle on top. I just haven't used the cab and it's taking-up space. Collection to the East of Manchester preferred, though I can probably ship in the UK. Any questions, please just ask.

  14. Sounds right. And of course the amp in question is blaring away at jumbo jet volumes and the guitarist still can’t hear it
    3 points
  15. I believe the mathematical equation for this is V=(N*(Vmax*N))+11 Where V is the volume in arbitrary volume notches on the master knob, Vmax is the maximum volume you though was possible from the combination of the guitar amps and N is the number of guitarists. 11 is, of course, the universal Spinal Tap constant.

  16. Geddy Lee really got me into playing bass and the aggression and attack of his tone and playing are still evident in the way I play, so with a nod to all the other worthy contestants, Tony Levin, Pino, Chris Squire, Jack Bruce, Pastorius, Lemmy, so many others, it always going to be Geddy.

  19. Also: Band members who complain you're not playing any gigs, but don't go out and get any and when you DO get offered a gig they're either suddenly unavailable or won't do it because it's not paying enough. It's a pub band FFS, not Pink Floyd.

  20. You'll never need another cabinet other than this one. It handles 700 watts of power @4 ohms. I've been running this with an Aguilar Tone Hammer 350 and club gigs, wedding, and general casual gigs I would never need anything else. This cabinet is "brand new", I just prefer the vertical 2x10 that Jorg made for me so this little guy needs a new home. I'm selling this for £500 cash!!! If you ordered this from Schroeder you would pay $799 pus shipping ($195) as this one was custom made for me to handle 700 watts RMS. So, in pounds you would pay £829.76! With that in mind, you are saving £329.76 straight out of the gate. It also has a heavy duty Titanium bullet tweeter at 200watts RMS. I can ship it but would rather someone from the UK buys it and collects from me personally. If you're interested, please message me. Cheers!

  23. Hi everyone, I’ve decided to list my old P Bass in favour of something a little more traditional, perhaps with a sunburst and rosewood flavour. Not a desperate sale by any means, but I have a strict 1 in 1 out policy. As you can see, it’s a great example of an old school ash-body, maple-board P Bass. Ready for punk and indie, but can handle soulful RnB all the same. A player’s instrument with the following mods: Nordstrand NP4 pickup - Arguably the best pickup for a P Bass.. BadassII bridge installed at some point - Just the badass-est bridge ever! CTS pots - The originals probably wore out. For me, this just ensures the bass works. In 2020 (amidst all the chaos) I had the bass refretted, and as a result it plays like a dream. I have used Daddario Chromes solidly, meaning there is no wear whatsoever. The body has some wear where a previous owner had fitted and removed a thumb rest, and the neck has some areas where the finish has come away, but this is no way affects playability. I know the important question with basses from the era is the weight, which in this case is a healthy 5.3Kg. I am looking for a sale at this point, but if there is a nice sunburst P Bass out there, I am prepared to exchange with cash your way if needed. And I'm sure it goes without saying, please feel free to get in touch for more pics or info. All the best, Ad

  24. Fender '75 Precision Bass Cool Mocha precision from the '70s. The pickups are dated to 1975, the pots are dated 1974. It's a well playing and good sounding P bass. The neck is straight and adjustable, and allows low action. It's a pretty light instrument too, just a bit below 4kg! with covers unmounted. The neck is pretty small at the nut for a precision at 39/40mm As you can see, the bass has a lot of small damages and honest playwear. The tuners and pots have been replaced, but the original 1974 pots are included in the sale. The chrome covers and thumb rest are not original to this bass. Asking €2700 Ideally I'd offer this bass in a partial trade for a player grade <65 Fender Jazz with Brazil fretboard, max 4kg, and a refinish (as it keeps te value a lot lower). I've got more stuff to add in a trade! Otherwise I'd might be interested in (partial) trades for; old Music Man Sabre with rosewood fretboard, Modulus Flea in fancy finish. And maybe a nice vintage Mustang Bass. The bass is located in the Netherlands. Local pickup is preferred, but I am also happy to ship at buyers risk and expense. Payment wise I accept cash on collection or PayPal friends.

  25. SOLD AND GONE. Selling this lovely Fender Urge ii Stu Hamm bass. I have owned this for years and years and it's a wonderfully sounding instrument with IMHO the best neck Fender ever put on a bass. It's somewhere between a J and a P with an oval profile that is really comfy. The only reason I'm selling is because it's 4.1kg / 9lb in weight and my medical issues mean I can't cope with that anymore. Another unique thing about the bass is the pickup arrangement. It's Jazz / Precision / Jazz with a very clever switching arrangement that controls all 3. With the switch at the rear it is just a J as you'd expect, with a balance / pan control. With the switch in the front position it is just a P. The balance control does nothing. In the middle it's all 3 pickups on - but with the Jazz pickups still controlled by the balance. So you can have Full JPJ. Or you can have the neck J with the P. Or the P with the bridge J. There's a great preamp system too that is very powerful. It's 34 inch scale and the finish is far more metallic in person. The bass is 16 years old so of course there are some little marks here and there, but so far I haven't been able to photograph them. Marks you can see in the pics are reflections from the room. I'll get outside later to take some more. It's currently got some very dusty D'Addario Pro Steels on it (40-100 iirc) but I will stick some fresh strings on - probably 45s as that's what I have. I'll finally get to use the Dunlop polish set I got for christmas too! When I got it used at least 10 years ago I didn't get a case or a bag with it, so it's collection only from Northants. I'm looking for about £1250 ono. The only trades I would consider would be Sandberg Superlights - ideally a very lightweight 5 string example, but any Superlights would interest me. EDIT - I've had some trade offers but they've all been too heavy. Max weight for trades is 3kg. So it's really only Sandberg Superlights as I don't think there's anything else that light. I'll try and do a bit of video when I get the chance. ta

  26. For sale is my beautiful and very underplayed Starfire. Late 90s, MIK, DeArmond USA pickups, it’s an absolute stunner. Fabulous low action with a brand new set of D’Addario tapes, it’s in beautiful condition, looks and sounds amazing and comes in a fabulous Tribal Planet case. *Trade options…. with a new rock project in the pipeline, I need something more suitable, so Yamaha, Ibanez etc….. I work all over the country, so delivery to you (within reason) or meet up somewhere is preferred over postage.

  30. I've noticed there are (a) bass players generally admired (b) bass players I admire (c) the bass players who played on the music I like listening to ....and there's not much overlap between those groups. The one player who does make it to the middle of the Venn diagram is the OP's choice, Bernard Edwards. The tone and the articulation of every note, just glorious.

  36. To change the subject, I saw Pearl Jam last night. Jeff Ament was using what looked like a ABM 600 EVO IV RC in a custom housing - alongside a Bad Lieutenant and another amp I couldn't recognise, each sat on a 810.

  40. I managed to get my hands on a Wilcock MM that was floating about here, through a trade. I have to say, while I do like it, there are a few things that aren’t quite at the standard I would have expected for a handmade bass of this value. Just little things but the route for the pickup isn’t especially accurate, nor is the scratchplate actually. Also, the neck felt oddly unfinished. I’ll see how it goes but I have to say, if I’d waited 11 months and paid £2k for it I think I’d have been quite disappointed. It does explain why it has passed though a few folk’s hands recently…. Anyway, just sharing another perspective….

  46. Soooo. Had a rehearsal with the Jazz and I can't fault it really. weight is around 9 pounds. Feels good. doesn't feel cheap at all. I will say it doesn't feel like a really expensive bass but it doesn't feel like a cheap one either.. Tuners are rock solid, controls are smooth.. the sound is what struck me.. Sounds like a great jazz bass, and the pickups are really clear, fat and punchy, and I mean REALLY fat and punchy.. I. .. I would say the tone of it is probably one of my favourite jazz bass tones and it where this bass really shines. Way fatter than my old Suhr, possibly because its a 60's position bass and the Suhr was 70's.?.. Neck is a really nice C shape. No single coil hum at all which surprised me.. With all that said on really close inspection the frets are a little messy, with a tiny bit of glue spotted. and the fret ends aren't perfect. The neck pocket is tight but not perfect. But hey this is a sub £400 bass and I can live with that. All in all this is a great workhorse jazz bass, sounds amazing and growly when dug in, really comfortable, lovely neck. no brainer.

  47. And an update to the above, I’m so glad I did, the difference was pretty amazing, a real solid foundation building sound for the keys & guitars to work their magic on. Kept out of the sonic space that they occupy nicely, locking in with the drums in the best way. Coupled with our guitarists new Tremonti amp the band has never sounded as good.
