  1. Classic Vibe Mustang in Olympic White. There's a slight imperfection in the body close to the control plate but hard to photograph - I've tried. A previous owner has drilled two holes for a thumb rest. These are covered by the aftermarket mint pick guard. It includes the original tort guard (with extra holes!) It was a bit microphonic when I received it so it went to Andy Viccars for a set up and sort out. He opened out the pickup aperture on the pick guard a bit which sorted the microphonic issue and gave it a good fret dress etc. I have a box so if you want to arrange a courier, I'm happy to box it up. Alternatively you can collect from Milton Keynes or meet me at a railway station on the West Midlands Trains network (within reason!!). Also happy to drive not too long a distance for fuel money. Quite sad to be selling this but I'm finding the neck really narrow and prefer the width on my old Musicmaster, Not really wanting trades but would consider a deal towards a later edition Ashdown ABM head, a Barefaced Super Compact or something 2 x 12ish

  4. Hi everyone, I have decided to sell my beloved Fender Classic 50’s Precision bass in black. I have always thought of this as “the one”, but hey 😂 The Classic series basses are highly regarded among bass players worldwide, and in my opinion, they are one of the best (if not the best) value guitars from Fender. If you have been around this or other bass forums, you have probably seen discussions and praise of these basses. I have handled several of these basses, and this is the best one I’ve had. It looks absolutely stunning in black with a maple neck and aluminium pickguard; it’s very light (around 3.8 kg on my scale) and comfortable to play. The neck width is 1.75” (44mm), but it’s pretty thin front to back, and to me, this neck feels superior and easier to play than most other Fender Precision models. I was playing a Fender Jaguar Bass before this one with one of the slimmest necks on the market, and I had no issues playing this bass. In fact, I absolutely love the neck on this. The back of the neck has a played-in satin feel, not sticky at all. I believe this to be a 2006-2007 model. In terms of specs, the bass has an alder body, a maple neck, US-made hardware with full-size vintage reverse tuners and a vintage bridge. I have upgraded the pickups with Fralin vintage pickups, which give this bass a lot more definition in the mix. I will include the original Fender pickups – they are not bad at all, just a bit less defined and detailed. I have reused the original covers for the Fralins installed, so the Fender pickups have brand new covers. The overall condition of the bass is good, but it’s no safe queen, and I have played it a lot. It has a few paint chips: one can be seen in the photos, and another is under the pickguard where the body meets the neck. There is another mark on the back of the neck by the first fret. And there is buckle rash on the back, of course. None of this affects playability. Frets have a lot of life in them and the action is nice and low. You can pick this up in SE London or I can potentially travel somewhere. I am happy to post this as well, we just need to work out a quote. It can be shipped in standard Fender double boxes + Fender Deluxe Gig bag, or I have an older hard case I can include (in the photos). You can also see/hear this bass here: or here: Cheers. Seva

  7. The best thing I've ever done is join established bands. That way to know where they are in terms of whether they gig, how often, what type of gigs etc, and these days you can see videos etc of them. That makes it so much easier than trying to form something. It's particularly good if you're only just starting out in the world of gigging bands because you can see how it's done from getting gigs to managing rehearsals and changing set lists. I wish it was as black and white as "do you want to be in a band that does pub gigs once a month, aiming to gig from November?" Vs "do you want to meet up talk sh!t and maybe play some tunes?" Because the problem is the number of dreamers, weirdos and time wasters who will tell you they're the next Steve Luthaker ready to play any gig any time anywhere, they're so sh!t hot on guitar you might not be good enough to play with them, they've got four fender custom shop Strats... And they only know one song. And they never rehearse. And they want to be the lead singer too but can't sing. And they tell you how to dress for the gigs that are never going to happen and how low to strap your bass. And they get on everyone else's back about not being gig ready quickly enough. I'll stop now.

  9. After a brief dalliance with valves, I'm moving this on. It was bought as B Stock from one of the big stores during lockdown. It's in pretty much as new condition apart from the slightest nick in the tolex on the top edge just to the right of the 'Peavey' logo. It also has a strip of velcro attached th o the top which should come off pretty easily. Included is a well used but sound flight case. It's not bespoke but the Peavey fits inside well with some room for a small backup amp. It's been gigged twice and I've used it a couple of times at rehearsal. Despite the fact we have roadies, it's just such a ball ache to move about and I've had some back issues so not really wanting to risk it. When I bought the amp, I did some research and read that some of them came out of the factory with an incorrect valve in the preamp. I checked and sure enough my valve was wrong, so i purchased the correct valve (balanced) from a valve supplier in Sheffield. It certainly does the business. Sounds just like a valve amp should with six power valves and a pretty versatile EQ. There's absolutely no way I'm going to post this so it's collection only from Milton Keynes or would be prepared to meet within a reasonable distance for petrol money. More pics available on request. Not really looking for trades but could be tempted to deal if you have a later Ashdown ABM head, Barefaced Super Compact, a 2x12 cab or something Rickenbacker flavoured Here's the specs: Three Band EQ A three band EQ lets you dial in your ideal settings to match your sound. Making this amp highly versatile. Including high and low controls, as well as a mid control that has a four-way midrange selector that will allow you toset the mid-frequency shift at 200, 400, 600 or 800 Hz. Resonance and Presence You'll be able to adjust the dampning factor on this amp with Peavey's patented Resonance and Presence controls. A three-way impedance selector enables you to match the Peavey Tour Vb-2 Bass Amp to any bass speaker. A footswitchable mute/tuner circuit and front-panel effects loop gives you additional flexibility. Specs: 225 watts of all-tube power from six EL34 pentodes Clean and overdrive channels with footswitch selection Custom-designed, oversized power and output transformers Impedance selector switch for 2, 4 and 8 ohm loads to match any bass cabinet Two parallel speaker output jacks Two shielded 12AX7 dual triode preamp tubes Shielded, 12AT7 cathodyne phase splitter for increased power amplifier dynamics Ceramic tube sockets Inputs for passive and active basses Tuner send jack Footswitchable mute/tune switch with flashing LED indicator Bright switch Three-band active EQ with four-position mid-shift switch Front-mounted, series effects loop Resonance and Presence damping controls Balanced, XLR direct output with ground lift and pre/post EQ switch Weight: 54 lbs (24.5 kg)

  10. Selling my Bitsa P Bass as my main squeeze is a MM Ray and does everything I want tonally. This is an American neck and hardware on a MIM body with a MIJ scratch plate, Nordy pup, USA harness and knobs, Hipshot chrome/ally bridge. I have a single ply black bridge and the original fender bridge to go with the bass. I'll chuck in a gig bag as well. Ideally, I'd like it picked up, but I will meet up to around an hour from Kings Lynn in Norfolk if needed. The bass is in very good used condition and only weighs around 8.5 lbs, so nice and light. It has a set of chrome flats on it, which sound suitably thumpy. Last price reduction.....seen something I want!

  11. Porky! He cut my first album in 1993, and it was such a ‘hot’ cut (needles in the red) that it came back a bit distorted on the top end, a bit sibilant. The bass sounded pretty beefy but the high end was super trebly, like an early Stereolab 45 or something. I attended the cut and do remember he was brilliant craic, but I never heard the actual record until 18 months after it came out. All I had to go on was a pre-master cassette of the album mix. Was quite surprised when I heard it on vinyl for the first time. It does have “A Porky Prime Cut” engraved in the runout groove though, just like ‘proper’ bands records did back in ye ooooolden days, so I don’t mind 😂

  24. I am selling my Yamaha TRBX 5 string to finance other bass exploits (I'm a one bass kind of guy). These basses are really decent quality, very versatile sounding with a super fast neck. I've pasted in some generic info below for the technical amongst you, and I am happy to provide any further pics or information you need. Bass weights just under 4.1kg. I have owned this for about 2.5 years and it hasn't been gigged so no dings or bumps at all. The amber flamed maple is beautiful. I'm in N.Ireland so selling with an Armourdillo case which I will fill with packing material before shipping. Any buyers from NI, I can adjust the price for collection / without case. __________ Offering players a perfectly balanced instrument that blends maximum playability, with high-quality electronics, and boutique looks. Crafted Perfectly With their slim neck, 3-band active/passive preamp, and a flamed maple wood top over the 3D sculpted alder body, the TRBX600 delivers in every aspect of their design ethos, and would make a welcome addition to any bass players collection. Great Tone, Oustanding Comfort, Boutique Looks With the TRBX605FM you get yourself a stunning 5-string electric bass, with a supremely comfortable neck and body shape, sporting a Natural Satin finish. Featuring two YGD designed H5 pickups, an audiophile-grade active/passive circuit and 3-band EQ, and Yamaha's thinnest bass neck to date (just 38mm wide at the nut!) you'd be pushed to find a more versatile and finely-crafted bass within the same price bracket. High-Quality Pickups H5 pickups (as designed by YGD) are renowned for their clean, open tone that works perfectly with the flexibility of the TRBX605's active/passive preamp design. Featuring a quad-polepiece design, and alnico magnet construction, these powerful pickups drive the active circuit with ease, whilst still managing to retain the sensitivity and subtlety required to pick up each and ever nuance of your playing in passive mode. 3-Band EQ In addition to the Active/Passive switchable nature of the on-board EQ, the TRBX605 also grants you total tonal control via the Treble, Mid, and Bass Boost/Cut controls (when in Passive mode the Treble control reverts to being a master passive Tone control). Constructed using high-quality gold-plated parts on key signal chain contacts, the circuitry within the TRBX605 operates with an increased amount of conductivity and reliability than other preamps, and there's even a battery alert LED installed on the back panel, which indicates when the battery is running low on power. 3D Sculpted Construction Yamaha have designed the TRBX605 to offer the optimum balance between tone and comfort. Its 3D sculpted body sits comfortably against you when you play, ensuring a supremely comfortable playing experience, and is coupled with a fast, ultra-comfortable profiled neck that is constructed to offer both outstanding stability and excellent tone.

  36. I would respectfully disagree with this. The PA cabs I/we have used over the years have meant we can’t hear the vocals; perhaps we set up differently to everyone else but with guitars and bass amps used as backline, even if everyone is circumspect about stage volume, it drowns out the vocal bleed from the PA. IME at least one stage monitor is essential if you’re not using IEMs. Doesn’t have to be a massive wedge; I successfully used one of those ‘monitor on a pole’ jobbies by Mackie and Behringer for years. We currently use smaller versions of our tops (DXR10s) as monitors - also good for redundancy if one of the tops goes pop.

  37. Is this 8 pages of bickering about whether some bass player is good enough/popular enough to have a signature bass? I would hazard a guess that as EB have released a second Joe Dart signature bass that they got enough publicity/money from the first one so that answers the questions for you all. As for whether Vulfpeck or Dart are legends or if the Signature basses are worth the money I will leave that up to the people who buy them and listen to the band.

  40. We’ve accepted that closures and diversions are now a permanent part of our travelling to and from our gigs all over the UK. The change to night works on major routes has impacted our travel times considerably, most often on our route home after a long gig when we just want to get back. So often we travel miles down motorways with 40 or 50mph speed limits due to road works with nobody in sight working there at all. Diversions have become normal, and with some being an extra 20 miles +, it can be very frustrating. One of the drawbacks of the job I know, just have to accept it.

  41. I’m sure that good singers can get away without monitors, but for me I need to hear both the lead vocals and my own in order to pitch correctly so monitors are an essential part of a PA for me.

  42. I'm not a Eurovision fan and won't be watching, but if others like it then OK. I'd like to see it hosted in physically in the UK, but nominally by Ukraine... with Ukrainian presenters or whatever it is the host country does. A bit like when a football team plays their 'home' matches at a different stadium during an upgrade to their ground.

  43. Both bands i'm in take the music seriously but it still needs to have a fun element and be enjoyable. People will be paying good money to see the Glam band so that's probably a bit more serious. I learn songs as close to originals as i can, i write out the bass part for every song from the outset and that's used as the reminder to everyone how its played. I've been in bands where people (usually guitarists) turn up for rehearsals and think they can just wing it. That's my sign to get out and find like minded musicians. The Glam band started from scratch (4 of us), we agreed a set list to work on and picked the first 4-5 songs to learn for the first rehearsal to see how we got on. It worked and from there it was 3-4 songs every week. Everyone put the same effort in and we made great progress very quickly getting tighter as we worked together. I regard rehearsals as work, i put the effort in beforehand and its about tighting things up and sorting out the finer points like endings etc. The punk band was already gigging and i was given the set and 3 weeks later we were gigging. Both bands put the effort and i enjoy working with like minded people. Dave

  46. The problem with vinyl is because it is a mechanical delivery medium there are various limitations as to what can actually be reproduced and they all have to be checked for and fixed if necessary, and that's before you get into the complications of optimising the running order of an album so that you get the best possible reproduction for each track in relation to its physical location on the record. This can often require a compromise between what the artist wants and what will give the best overall listening experience.

  47. Bought a GoldTone micro bass last month and a hipshot d tuner last week from BD. Both experiences were good. When I was being a bit dim over the invoice, Mark called me straight away and sorted it in a very pleasant and professional way. The hipshot was cheaper than the 2nd hand market and arrived pronto. I’ve not had a bad experience yet, but I’ll keep buying stuff until I do. In the interest of research of course..

  48. I picked up a bargainous bb414 on Facebook marketplace a few months back. Fitted a gotoh bridge (after pic was taken) I had knocking around, new strings, setup and it’s surprising excellent. Light, well balanced and very high output. Nice variation and even the bridge pickup sounds good soloed. I had some friends over who thought it was a mid level bass, it only cost £120 + strings! Very pleased and ridiculous value for money.
