A recent, small but very nicely formed addition to the practice rig - the Monique performs beautifully with a passive Wilcock, though I still prefer the Hellborg with actives11 points

Bowed out of the trio on Saturday night with a pub gig over 60 miles away, I won't miss that sort of travelling for little money upfront. Fortunately we made an extra £50 in tips on top of the fee so the petrol money was covered. Punters seemed to like us and though a rather sweaty night (plus I had a heavy cold) we got through without major incident. This leaves me with no ongoing music projects which should free up some time to get work done on the house and sell some surplus gear off (anyone looking for some Roland PK-5 pedals?) with a view to jacking in the day job next year and moving to the South West, it'll be an adventure. As most of my posts tend to be on this thread then I will probably have an even lower profile in the coming months. Cheers guys. Post script - turns out it was more than a cold, I've just tested positive for covid despite having 3 vaccinations. Oh well...7 points

Annoying tax bill and other gear purchase plans mean that this probably needs to go. Only had it a few weeks so haven’t had so much time to get attached to it. Collection in Sheffield preferred though potentially it could be handed over at a meet-up or delivered in person, depending on location. Comes with a (non-original) case which has a bit of structural damage on one side so I wouldn’t want to ship it in it really. Asking what I paid for it. No more, no less.5 points

Hi, I'm selling a load of gear again due to health issues which are forcing me to go for even more lightweight alternatives compared to the gear I currently have. Nerve damage s@#^s... 😑 This is an as new custom order bass (finished January 2022) from Mensinger guitars in Germany. Only used at home and in the studio. Alas I have to get rid of all my bass gear due to health issues, hence the sale. The bass comes with fitting, high quality Mensinger gigbag, original box/packaging and all the tools and paperwork that came with it. As you can see in the second picture I changed the black dome knobs with black, aluminum Sadowsky-style knobs and I´ve put a set of Dunlop flatwound strings on the bass (the roundwound strings the bass came with from the custom shop will be included in the sale), apart from that everything is still original on the bass. I paid just over 1900Euros/1590GBP for this bass (the A++ grade Bubinga top, Hipshot USA hardware and Aguilar pickups are expensive options and the 5string neck, Carbon reinforcement rods and luminlay side dots are paid options as well),so this is your chance to get a true custom shop instrument for a lot less money and without the waiting time. CONSTRUCTION: Bolt-on BODY: Alder back & Bubinga A++ grade top NECK: One piece Maple with two Carbon reinforcement rods for extra stability POSITION MARKERS: Black dots on the fingerboard & Green Luminlay dots on the side of the neck RADIUS: 14" FINGERBOARD: Maple STRINGS: 5 FRET: 22 stainless steel, medium sized frets SCALE: 30" FINISH: Gloss polyurethane finish ELECTRONICS: Passive: volume, volume, tone BRIDGE: Hipshot USA B style, Brass bridge PICKUPS: Aguilar 5P-60 (neck) & Aguilar 5J-HC (bridge) TUNERS: Hipshot USA Ultralites Y 3/8 HARDWARE COLOR: Black GIGBAG: Mensinger Deluxe Short Scale Bass bag Pickup available in Ghent, Belgium, will ship the bass safely packed (I still have the box it came in) and insured within EU/UK.5 points

Tried painting the headstock, but bring the perfectionist that I am wasn't happy with the result. So went carbon instead. Should provide a nice contrast to the white truss rod cover. Once the glue is dry I can finish sanding the edges.5 points

I worked at Cambridge Composites (F1 products) before starting Zoot bass, it was there I learned the art of all things Carbon fibre. I've never had any affiliation with Rob Green or Gus guitars. All my carbon fibre work has been done by myself in my workshop using my own Vac' oven etc. All the moulds and tooling were also made by me using my own CNC machine. Here's a picture of one of an early Zoot fretless I made around 1985-ish.5 points

There is an online archive of Mark Lamarr's BBC Radio 2 shows at https://www.godseternaljukebox.com/ and there are multiple series of his Beginner's Guide to Reggae all free to listen to. I picked a random episode and he said this was one of his favourite reggae tracks ever.4 points

When I saw that pic I thought it was the station I used on my daily commute. I can't tell for sure. but be afraid - the station in question was Baker St. In other news I accepted an offer on the house yesterday. That means the dining room can convert back into my temporary studio. Be afraid -I think I'm back.3 points

Selling my trusty K&M Omega keyboard stand. A German made, quality bit of kit, this has been used as studio furniture at home and has never been gigged. It has one or two surface marks but is in excellent condition. The Omega system allows for the addition of extra tiers, laptop and tablet holders, monitor speaker holders, mic boom arms etc. I'm offering the following items here: 18810 Keyboard table stand 18811 Stacker - a removable second tier 18819 Controller Tray - a metal tray which attaches to the stacker 18828 Basic Support - a bar which is fixed between the stacker arms when removed from the stand to create a two tier desktop stand. So it's a three-in-one system here - single keyboard stand, two tier keyboard stand, or two tier desktop stand. The first picture shows roughly what the stand looks like when folded up, although I haven't bolted it together in the pic. All relevant bolts are included. The last two pictures show what the stand looks like when set up, and the desktop stand with the support bar. Instruction sheets for all pieces are included. I'm not able to post, so it's collection from Colne, Lancashire. £140 I get about a lot gigging so do get in touch if you're interested but nowhere near. Arrival of baby ruins entire house layout and forces sale.2 points

Hi, I'm selling my beloved Jazz Bass 65. It plays awesome, with ultra low action, plenty of body and growls as it is expected, Neck is straight, frets are original and in good conditions, as pots (from 64) and electronics. Fretboard is in an astonishing BR chocolate color. When i bought it, was finished in white, as it is shown in the pictures, but i wanted to return it to its original painting, and no one better to do that job than Clive Brown. the Tortoiseshell pickguard is a spitfire job (again one of the best) The case is not an original 1965. As long as I know, all the rest is original. Original pickups that sound strong, truss rods working smooth and as it should, nice low action. No dead spots. Nice light weight, 4 kg. Shipping costs appart. No trades or partial payments. I listen reasonable offers. Thanks Best regards, Carles C .2 points

Regretfully moving on my Glockenklang Blue Sky head. Lovely Class A preamp, subtle, musical EQ, Class D power amp section that never seems to break a sweat, great DI and versatile feature set. The amp is in good condition, has been well looked after, and comes with its original gig bag and rack ears. Can post at cost.2 points

Hi, I'm selling a load of gear again due to health issues which are forcing me to go for even more lightweight alternatives compared to the gear I currently have. Nerve damage s@#^s... 😑 GSS Sumo Monster 1200W electric bass & guitar Power Amp ( New 2022 model!) These is the ultimate compact power amp to use with a pedal pre-amp or modeller like f.e. helix, kemper and the likes. I've used it with a Sansamp, a tube pre and a Laney Digbeth pre and they all sounded pristine through this powerfull beast with loads of clean headroom to spare. I'd love to keep this, but recent escalation in health issues is forcing me to go even smaller and lighter with my amp set-up, hence the sale. Spec's: 1200 Watt over 4 Ohm; 800 Watt over 8 Ohm; 400 Watt over 16 Ohm. THD (full power): < 0,1 % Input impedance: 10 K Ohm Power supply voltage: 180-264 Volt ac Frequency response(-1dB): 20-20000 Hz Weight: 7 Lbs. (3.2 Kg) Dimensions: 3.4" x 6.7" x 12.2" / 86 x 170 x 314 mm (H x W x D) Inputs/outputs and controls : 1/4" (6.35mm) input jack on the front panel. Neutrik Speakon loudspeaker output connector on the back panel. One On/Off power switch on the front panel. Massive pure aluminium volume control. A very unique size vs.power ratio. Very high quality electronics based on carefully selected components. 100% black aluminium enclosure. Laser printed front and back panels. The amp is less than two months old, hardly used and in mint codition. Comes with (EU) power cable. I'm in Belgium but can ship worldwide. 😉2 points

I've gone for the Dakota Red 'vintage' model, with aged chrome and a satin finish it has a 'roadworn feel' without being a relic. The Alnico 5 pups sound great. My opinion is that these top-end Squiers are at least as good as entry level Fenders. I also have a Flea and it was the best of the MIM and American jazzes I tried out.2 points

Yeah tbh every member of staff I've spoken to either via phone or online has been very good. The person I spoke to on the phone had a scouse accent and the number was the Liverpool warehouse. In other news the cavity cover has arrived (albeit with 3 black and one silver screw) and has been installed.2 points

@Kinkh Thats some ace work on the schematic, A really useful piece of work for anyone looking into this. @funkle, as you mentioned, the way i went about the "pick attack" feature is very similar. On the filter board (right) there are 4 output pins on the right hand side: 1. OUT (the filtered signal) 2. GND ( ground) 3. VB (biased voltage to pass to the volume board) 4. P/T (a clean passthrough signal from the pickup) These then feed into the volume board (on the right). when the volume pot is pushed in, the filtered signal is passed straight to the pot, so it acts as a normal volume control. when it is pulled out, it blends the filtered signal with a second signal, which is the P/T signal that is then Low pass filtered and boosted. the level of each of these 2 signals and the overall boost can be changed using the 3 trimpots on the board. the picture above is actually an older prototype, the newer version only has 2 red mini switches on the volume board. these can be changed to change the frequency of the peak for the pick attack mode: OFF - OFF - 1.5kHz (sharp peak) ON - OFF - 2.2kHz (sharp peak) OFF - ON - 2.1kHz (shallower peak) ON - ON - 3.5kHz (sharp peak) From your simulations in LTspice, it looks like the Wal boost in attack mode is much broader than the one in mine, but centre looks around 3.5Khz I got some great feedback from both @Andyjr1515and @benh, who have prototypes, so im still working on these. In terms of layout though, separating out the boards does provide some extra flexibility in terms of setup. using a single volume board, you can run the P/T pin (for the pick attack) from either the bridge pickup or the neck pickup, or have a switch to switch between them! The idea behind these was to make the system as customisable as possible, so the user can have a very simple setup similar to a wal (push pull for resonance on the frequency pots, and push pull pick attack on the volume), or add in additional controls if they want more tweakability like on ACG's preamps. below is a normal installation: (note the "jumpers" on the pins at the bottom corners of the board") One feature that can be useful for example is having additional settings for the resonance (such as ACG/Alembic filters). when the jumper is in place, the push pull is simply Low/High. but the jumper can easily be replaced by a 2 position switch, 3 position switch or pot for variable resonance: There are also pins / jumpers to change filter modes but that's even more complicated. sorry for the low quality JPEGS here btw, these are snips from my first draft at the instructions for these preamp boards. Id say that based on the plots you put up, it wouldnt be too difficult to simply much about with frequency values on these boards to replicate those plots very closely, although as you say im not certain whether some of the character comes from the somewhat outdated component choices. If @Kinkhdoes go ahead and build an exact copy of that schematic, ill certainly send one of mine over with matched frequencies to compare! Honestly the work of people on this forum never ceases to amaze me!! amazing work and can't wait to see the build progress!2 points

I remember when I started I bought the cheapest bass in the shop, and, true story, I did not know there was such thing as a setup. I figured that out literaly a few years later2 points

Tuning scheme should surely be dictated by the choice of repetoire, rather than being an idea set in stone. What does your student want to learn?2 points

A further 20 minutes with my block plane and this is probably OK for rough shaping of the top at the moment: And so next is the initial scooping of the underside from where I will have a better idea of the final dimensions and weight. But before that, I'm going to have a ponder about some options relating to the control chamber that might influence the sequence in which I do the various steps2 points

A few years ago I was doing quite a lot of work with a high-end acoustic group and we used to do mid-show busking things so I needed to be mobile and sound good. I put an advert out for a decent battery amp and Hellzero replied offering this AMAZING GSS Combo. Seriously this thing is so light (I wore it and played) but really has a presence. The speaker is 6", but I've just been listening to some electronic music through it and it has a real low end presence. I was looking for something more mid-focussed to cut through ambient noise and not be lost in blubbiness and this thing is a perfect mix. Yeah, it doesn't have much subsonic stuff going on, but for outdoor playing and acoustic playing subsonic is unnecessary... and then Tony (HellZero) purchased the cable that allows you to run any 8 Ohm speakon-equipped cab (two channel output on the tiny head!!!). I've run this with a 15" and the head is so tight and punchy. https://imgur.com/mmXe8iA https://imgur.com/t9vZ5up https://imgur.com/cMENWdx https://imgur.com/NbVT4Fv https://imgur.com/anU4xjX I'm based in Cumbria but I gig around. I can post it (Tony posted it to me) but I would MUCH rather meet up somewhere around the NorthWest. Here's some links for the full set of what is on offer (head, cab, battery and other accessories): https://www.guitarsoundsystems.com/gss-06b400-mini-bass-amp-c2x15043753 https://www.guitarsoundsystems.com/7s35v2-intelligent-lithium-battery-pack-for-guitar-sound-systems-mini-bass-amps-c2x18346407 https://www.guitarsoundsystems.com/speakon-cable-for-complementary-cabinet-connection-to-mini-amplifiers-ch1-c2x16356954 https://www.guitarsoundsystems.com/custom-padded-bag-for-gss-06b400-mini-bass-amp-and-gss-08gcxxx-guitar-cab-c2x14812542 And here's some of GSS' own promo material:2 points

Does anyone here know how to dissasemble the tuners on an old BB1000S? The plastic/rubber O-rings are gone, i've purchased some new ones and am dying to put them on. But it seems i need a special key to disassemble to the metal part under the tuning key, is this correct? It doesn't simply twist off. Bass in question ofcourse:2 points
