***SOLD*** ACG Recurve Short Scale (32"). Details on the ACG site here No trades thanks. You are welcome to come to my home in Southend to try out and pick up the bass or meet/drive to drop off. I am happy to discuss delivery but I am also happy to drive a long distance to avoid a courier. The bass had a Pro Setup at Guitar Technical Services (IMHO the best guitar tech / luthier in the country) in late Feb 2020 and has been further checked at GTS in 2021 and 2022. It has been recently restrung with Newtone Roundcore Platinum strings .096 .075 .060 .042. Weight - 8.0 pounds (3.6 kg). The bass did not come with a case however I keep it in a pristine Mono Bass Sleeve in ash colour, I will include this for £80 (roughly half-price) if you so wish. The bass was made for @Clarky who will be along in a minute to tell you how lovely it is. Since acquiring a bass built by our very own @Jabba_the_gut the ACG has lingered in the rack, which is a crime, this bass needs to be played. Please feel free to ask any questions or request further photos. Body Top Wood: Cocobolo with Maple veneer Body Wood: Alder Body Finish: Satin Lacquer Neck Neck Wood: 3 piece Maple Finger Board: Ebony Scale: 32″ Neck Finish: Satin Lacquer Hardware Pickups: ACG FB in the neck and ACG FB in the bridge Hardware: Hipshot B Type bridge 19mm spacing, Gotoh GB350 Resolite tuners, Dunlop Dual Design Straplocks, Hipshot String Tree, Pre-amp: East UNI-PRE 4K12 points

I asked Will if I could try out the 2018 Classic Stingray they had in stock and after playing it I decided to make a purchase. It's absolutely spotless and weighs 9lbs 8oz (top of my weight range really) but is light for one of these. I've strung it with TI flats and it's brilliant. Foolishly, while I was waiting for Will to dig out the Classic I picked up a 1996 2EQ Ray that was sat on a stand and basically couldn't put it down again. It's got a few dings and minor chips (who hasn't?) but weighs in at just under 8 1/2lbs and just sounds amazing. Fortunately Will was agreeable to a p/x and I walked away with two Rays to join my Special that I've been gigging with recently. There's such a difference between the single and double H basses and the 2 vs. 3 eq that I felt I could justify it. Having recently moved a few basses on I didn't feel too guilty either. It's strange; I've been a passive bass fan for so long but now ffive of my seven basses are active and it works really well for me gigging-wise.10 points

My bass practice has stalled and my tea has gone cold as I've disappeared down another rabbit hole I'm a biologist by training and chemistry was my second subject at university, I started to fact check and bamboo is way more interesting than I imagined, and my chemistry way more rusty than I realised. So to summarise bamboo has a very different structure to wood. It is made of similar cells arranged in a different way. The conducting tissues are surrounded by bundles of fibre cells which give the stems their stiffness. These cells are longer than most similar cells in woody tissue. There are lots of these fibre/conducting bundles in the stems and they are surrounded by parenchyma cells, these are softer cells and they strengthen the structure by absorbing and spreading forces on the fibres. Mechanically this is very like fibreglass. It goes beyond this. The fibre cells have walls which are made of strands called fibrils, as are all woody tissues, but bamboo has evolved a few extra tricks. The ratio of lignin to hemicellulose in the fibrils shows higher levels of hemicelluloses which are less strong than lignin but the mixture is stronger than lignin alone as the hemicelluloses create strong hydrogen bonds with the lignin. The hemicelluloses also have microfibrils which increase the strength of the fibres. Article in Nature Bamboo is a grass, not wood and it has lots of exciting possibilities. It grows quickly, maturity in 4-5 years and not decades like wood. The plant survives harvesting. The 'waste' can be chemically treated (breaking those hydrogen bonds) to produce long soft fibres softer and stronger than cotton. The technology is young and developing so the price may drop as it is scaled up. Whether monocultures of bamboo prove to be better than monocultures of cotton and spruce/fir is a potential issue but bamboo is more productive and may be able to address the shortage of timber in the construction industry. Certainly growing a fibreglass like material as strong as steel sounds promising. For bass cabs the Youngs modulus/stiffness thing could mean thinner cab walls and lighter cabs. I don't know how easy it will be to cut/drill/glue/shape. The density isn't an issue, it's lighter than some hardwood ply not as light as poplar. I think at this time it's wait and see. Will availability improve and the price come down? It's great we have one entrant into the bamboo cab market. If it is successful we'll see more.5 points

Thank you - she’s fine now but had to have nice teeth removed. She literally hasn’t noticed. Insurance will only pay out if you’ve been with them a year, which isn’t in any of the actual policy docs but hidden in a pdf on their site. I’ve lodged a complaint and ordered a scud missile on eBay so we’ll wait and see. TBH finances are ok and I don’t desperately need to sell anything but it’s given me an excuse to have a bit of a rationalisation. Sybil’s tongue sticks out now that her teeth don’t hold it in 😂5 points

Here we go, final pics... sorry there are quite a few. 😁 Extremely pleased with how it has come out. I am not a bass player, this is the one I will be learning on, so no sound clips just yet.5 points

With regret, I'm selling my original late 80's?/early 90's? Gallien-Krueger 400RB in order to raise some much needed funds for another special bass related purchase. This is a rare UK 220/240V version and is in generally excellent condition for 30 year old head, complete with the original carry handle on the side. The amp has been recently serviced and is all original (apart from replacement conrol knobs). Plug your bass in and it sounds HUGE! Bold, punchy and capable of a huge range of tones from the 4 band EQ and lo-cut, mid-contour and hi-boost buttons. Turn up the boost control and it even verges into valve-like harmonic overtone heaven! Coupled with an efficient 4ohm cab this little monster isn't far behind its larger, legendary 800RB sibling...having the the same killer tones on tap and no lack of power! Don't let the lower power wattage fool you... I've never found this amp wanting, even with a 7 piece band....! 😉😎 @Snook tried it out recently when he purchased the bigger 800RB from me and can atest to the power, sound & condition! i'm asking £SOLD, no offers, as this is a recently serviced, mega rare classic and worth every penny. Payment by Cash on collecfion, Bank Transfer or Paypal (YOU pay all fees). Please see my extensive feedback thread for assurance of a clean, honest transaction.4 points

Hi! i’m thinking to sell or trade my Pino Palladino signature Custom shop Fender precision bass. it’s from 2015, in great shape, no issues or troubles. I’m considering trades with other Fender Precision, preferred with maple fretboard.. i know they’re rare, but I’m looking for a masterbuilt or a “fullerton” 57.. and even a “player” late ‘50 pre CBS (plus cash from my side). 😀4 points

Not quite the same issue but I bought a bare Precision AVRI neck off a certain auction site, the ferrules/bushes of the Gotoh GBR640 vintage resolites I was going to use were a rattling good fit. The holes had been adjusted by a former owner using a taper reamer and were now too big. I used a piece of PVC pipe into which the bushes happened to be a tight fit and cut four rings to suit the depth of the bushes. I counterbored the holes in the headstock to be a tight fit for the rings, pressed them in a and voila.4 points

After looking through the talkbass thread of a similar name I thought it would be cool to start one for us basschatters! I'll go first, here is my SVT Classic and 410HLF (and an assortment of pedals). Hoping to do a garden party this weekend with it (weather permitting).3 points

***Now SOLD *** Hi Folks Another cab has come up that I would like to buy, so in order to fund it, I'm putting this brilliant Vanderkley 115MN6 4ohm cab up for sale. I'm asking for £SOLD for the cab, which comes with it's fitted Vanderkley cover worth £50. Both the cab and the cover are in superb condition. No trades on this I'm afraid. In haste, I've attached images of the cab with 3 different amps and my trusty G&L, but obviously, this is a for sale ad for the cab only. Selling because... Why am I selling such a brilliant, lightweight cab you might ask? Well, the answer is that because I already have a Mesa Walkabout 115 combo, I'm looking for either a 212 or 410 cab to pair with my Mesa Big Block 750... It's really that simple. Otherwise I wouldn't be thinking of moving this on at all as its a brilliant one cab solution, with a rich, deep and beautifully detailed sound whilst still being lightweight, powerful and having a small stage footprint. Other info... Try out is very welcome here in Potton, Central Bedfordshire with obligatory tea/coffee /biscuits etc. Although I'd rather not post, if it's a deal breaker, then yes I can package this up securely to be sent by tracked and insured courier at your additional cost. Equally, I'd be prepared to meet up within a 50 mile radius of where I live for a few extra shekels to help make a deal happen. Combined sale... If anyone would like to make me an sensible offer for this fabulous cab and the awesome Ashdown CTM100 that I'm also selling, then I'd be very open to that idea.. 👍😊 Any questions please ask away here, or send me a PM. Thanks for looking as ever.. Nik 😊 Tech Spec & blurb below.. Configuration: 1 x 15" + 6" custom designed Neodymium drivers Power: 600 Watts AES Impedance: 4 Ohms Freq. response: 39 Hz – 10 kHz Sensitivity: 99 dB 1W @ 1m Size: H x W x D, 59 x 54x 41cm Weight: 23 Kg / 50 lbs The NeoLite cabinets are loaded with the latest generation custom-made neodymium drivers. The drivers are absolute state-of-the-art; constructed from a cast aluminium frame, neodymium magnet assembly, unique coil and magnet cooling design, waterproof cone material, linear frequency response, high power- and sensitivity-ratings. The tweeters feature a custom-made filter with tweeter protection circuit and a high frequency attenuator on the back panel. Here you will also find two Neutrik® speakon/6.3mm jack-combo connectors linked parallel. These "high efficiency" cabinets are sealed airtight from the inside so the air will only enter or leave the cab through the tuned port-tube mounted on either the front or back or both. Each speaker cabinet is hand-made by Marc Vanderkley, using strong but lightweight void free birch and poplar plywood, dowel joint construction, internal bracing and is covered with high quality black carpet which will protect your cabinet for years to come. This is an ideal cabinet for the bass player looking for a balanced sound, with clear mid range and punchy, deep lows and clear, natural high end. A very light cabinet that works for almost any type of bass, including upright and any style of music.3 points

Bridge piezo pickups on double bass. I don't think there are any that sound all that great, but they work, a mic is finicky in the situations I play and I don't have a lot of cash to throw at chasing the perfect amplified tone.3 points

Hi folks Bit vet bill. She's insured, but the insurance won't cover it. I expect I'll be successful in my appeal but cashflow problems force the sale of some gear. I had this WIngbass 5 modified to take the Roland GK system (so you can play synths like the GR55/GR20/VB99/Vbass) as well as the usual pickup. These are fantastic fun little basses - essentially a bass chopped off at the 12th fret. Super low action, great sound, super portable and with an octave, a genuine Swiss army knife! I have the official case and even a special strap for the bass. I documented the installation of the GK system here if you want a really deep dive! If you don't need/want to use it, it can be simply ignored and used without. I originally bought it on a whim and really fell in love with it, finding it super easy to throw in the car and take on holiday but also for playing in front of the TV. Specs: -Black limba body -Flamed maple top -18mm spacing -Bartolini pickup -Satin finish (feels amazing) -No truss rod - fretboard is glued right to the body, so it's totally flat and super stable. -Controls are volume, passive tone, and GK assignable knob, then two buttons, again assignable (momentary/latching) depending on what yer plugging into) -Elixir super light strings (it takes your normal strings, chopped in half!!) -‘built in’ tuner 😂 Any questions please ask away. I'm in York so would love to meet somewhere near, or I can post in a medium envelope (lol) Cheers ped3 points

Another change up for me. First gig with it tomorrow. LS-2 acting as a tuner mute with Turbo Tuner on send of B Octamizer>Cali76>BassRig>Khan VTDI Cali76 running at 18V. IEC splitter sends power to the Khan and the GigRig Generator which powers the rest of the pedals. Khan’s DI out goes to the Rockboard XLR patch input, and the Thru jack goes to one of the 1/4” outputs if I need to use an amp. Temple USB adaptor for charging my iPad, and a spare 9v out (hanging loose at the bottom of the 2nd pic) for charging my bluetooth page turner. BassRig will pretty much just be an OD/Amp sim, but also function as a backup DI if needed.3 points

You're kidding me. Thread title made me think of the Cardiacs, whom I finally came to grips with in ... Royal Leamington Spa (which I think is pretty well done for a tuliphead living in Norway). A shop called Fopps or something? I avoided them as I wasn't capable of hearing the fun and the humour, and, being lyrics-deaf, initially experienced them as aggressive and harsh in a peculiar society-hating way. Then their sampler on offer in that shop, and a Leamington friend urging me to give it a listen. Lurve them these days.3 points

The song: For some reason, I envisioned a male escort on his way home after a late... ehhh... shift, I suppose. He's a good guy, alone in a world which just doesn't understand. The technical stuff: Yamaha drums into Thomann mics into Behringer interface, as always. I tried a little bit of damping on the snare top skin, kind of going for an old-school disco sound but I think I missed. I tried additional percussion too, for effect, That's right. Cowbell. There are four bass tracks on there. A high one with the Ashdown octaver thing on, plus a low bass during the verses. The other two was messing around with a Boss Synth Bass pedal, which was a lot of fun. Guitars were a Tokai 335 and a Bacchus strat into an Avid Eleven, as always, but there's not much guitar on there. Sometimes it's just basses stacked or just one bass synth track. I wanted to do some wah stuff, in keeping with the theme, but the pot in my wah pedal is scratchy and cleaner couldn't cure it. Instead, I tried some envelope filter stuff which didn't really come out well. Vocals are me trying desperately not to sound like myself, including 6 tracks of BVs to try to make it sound all motown, like. Yeah, that didn't really come together either. Ah well.3 points

I just want to play. It's what I do. If it's a 50 quid sweaty pub gig getting changed in the toilets, that's 50 quid more than I'd get satcat home. If it's a 250 quid souless function playing to a bunch of suits who don't give a damn, I'll take it. I'm a musician. I want to play all the time.3 points

Stingray Special 4H in speed blue. I bought this from Will at BassBros. I have got permission from him to use his photos from the sale as they are far better than anything I could take. Just to be clear, the bass is with me and not BassBros. The original sale advert is here (with more pics): https://bassbros.co.uk/sold-basses/2021-ernie-ball-music-man-stingray-special-4h/ Complete with original hard case but no case candy. Standard apart from drop D tuner, with original included. I've just weighed on my electronic scales at 7.6lbs. It came with a gloss black pickguard and spare white one. I contacted Strings and Things (official Ernie Ball UK distributor) to source an original white pearl one and they advised buying one from Pickguard Planet which would be the same, but cost less and produced with a quicker turnaround. So included is the Pickguard Planet white pearl (71USD) and both the black and white pickguards I got it with. Excellent condition. The only marks are a minor graze to the headstock and a minor mark on the drop tuner. I will get some photos up of these in due course. Serial #: F95171 Manufactured: April 7th, 2021 Build Code: 107-DS-20-05-CS-BM Model: StingRay Special Neck: Roasted Maple Neck Rosewood Fretboard Pickguard: 3 Ply White Pearl Hardware: Matte Black Hardware £1750 collected from Orpington BR6 or can meet up to an hour away. Have family in Henlow SG16, Beds so can also get the bass there fairly easily.2 points

Great shop. I used to work in Leamington and spent a fortune there. I would find new music on Pandora Radio (precursor to Spotify), then buy the CDs in Fopp. As for bands I got into too late: Grateful Dead. I assumed they were for hippie stoners, and never listened to them as nobody I knew had their records. Bought "American Beauty " over a decade ago and thought it was OK ish but didn't understand all the fuss. After being on this forum for a while I found that @FinnDave played for The Grateful Dudes so I asked him what I should listen to. The answer is the live recordings, which the band actively encouraged and which are now available online or in many cases on CD as well. Totally different, completely mesmerising, I just love them. I wish someone had introduced me to them when I was at Uni and could have seen them live.2 points

Yes super basic, and if you couldn’t afford that you’d either use a recording Walkman or a piece of string and a tin can. Similar sound quality either way 😂 There’ll be a limited run of 30-odd lathe cut 45’s for the folks who still want physical tangible stuff, plus digital downloads for all the modern folks. But the vinyl will be a nice little thing to have - 45rpm 5” single in a picture sleeve, with both tracks exclusive to that edition. Shouldn’t be long before I get a copy then I’ll put it on the YouTube 👍2 points

The Smiths - actively hated and refused to listen to them at the time. Pre internet it was quite easy to never hear a band you thought you didn’t like - truculent teenage me couldn’t get past Morrissey with his gladioli and their bedwetting fans. Have since realised their brilliance, and even seen Morrissey live a few times..2 points

I'm still in touch with the drummer from the band I was in, in the early 80s and he reminded me that he had this broken BB neck. I thought you guys might be interested in the story behind it. This neck is from JJ Burnell's bass which he was using in 1982/83. JJ used the bass during the Strangler's Feline Tour at that time, plus many TV appearances including The Tube 1983, TOTP's - European Female etc. It's possible that it was also used on the recording of the Feline album although I don't know that for sure. It was damaged during the US leg of that tour when his strap failed and the bass dropped to the ground. The Kinkade Brothers in Bristol had made a few guitars for the Stranglers so the bass was sent to them for repair. I don't know the details of the repair but I know they made a new neck and, given that the BB2000 is a neck-through design, presumably they spliced the new neck into the existing body? I'm also guessing that the original fretboard was likely reused. My mate acquired this neck because his brother, the guitarist in our band, was having an acoustic guitar made by the Kinkades and they visited the workshop to check progress of the build shortly after JJ's bass had been repaired. The old neck was lying around in the workshop about to be chucked out so, being a fan of the Stranglers my mate asked if he could have it. Many years later my mate met with JJ in Liverpool and he took the neck along and got him to sign it. Here's a picture of JJ using the bass in question and also the signed neck.2 points
