  1. Now £2000 with free mainland UK shipping I may live to regret this but up for sale is my Vigier Passion IV (2020). What is there to say about these basses. They have a very loyal and passionate (pun intended) following here on Basschat, and with very good reason. The proprietary pickups in their ‘bridge-biased’ position provide untold amounts of punch. The 3-band preamp also gives you access to a huge amount of different tones, so chances are that whatever style of music you’re playing you’ll find the right sound here. This bass cuts through the mix like no-one’s business, is super comfortable to play and has the best finish of any instrument I’ve laid my hands on. There are a couple of slightly uncommon features on this bass that are also worth highlighting. The first is that there is no truss rod. This is because the neck is made from phenowood – that is, wood injected with a phenolic resin which means that the neck doesn’t move as a result of temperature or environment changes. So no more worrying about bowed necks or fiddly setups! The other cool feature is the locking input jack. Once your cable is plugged in it’s not going anywhere, so you’re unlikely to suffer from loose connections or accidentally pulling your cable out mid-set. Other specs are (taken from the Vigier website): Neck Wood : Maple naturally dried for 3 years Shape : D Finish : Glossy Width of neck at nut : 40 mm/1.57 " Width of neck at last fret : 56,4mm / 14.32 " Depth of neck at first fret : 19,5mm / .76 " Depth of neck at 12th fret : 23mm / .90 " String spacing at nut : 31,5 mm / 1.24 " String spacing at bridge : 53 mm / 2.125 " Action as supplied at 12th fret, treble : 1.8 mm / .0709 " Action as supplied at 12th fret, bass : 2.3mm / .0906 " Type of nut : Teflon nut + hardened zero fret technology Fingerboard Wood : Phenowood Radius : 300mm/11.81 " Type of frets : Medium Number of frets : 24 Scale length : 860mm / 33.8 " Inlay : Dots Body Wood : Flamed maple / alder / flamed maple naturally aged Finish : Varnish dries for 5 weeks minimum Accessories Machine heads brand name : Schaller Type of bridge : One bridge per string End pin : Brass casing that inserts deep into the body and locks the strap button in place Finish : Chrome Electronics Pickup brand name : Vigier Type of pickup : Single, twin coil in line Switch : Balance Controls : Volume Balance Bass Medium Treble Shielding : Conductive paint Miscellaneous Weight : 3,8Kg / 8.3lbs This bass is immaculate (to the extent the original stickers are still present!) – home use only and without any significant dings or scratches. The only reason I’m selling is because it’s not getting the attention it deserves and I could do with the cash for other things. I also believe that Patrice Vigier has now closed his order books as he is retiring – so short of keeping your fingers crossed and hoping one pops up for sale elsewhere, this is probably your best bet of getting a Passion IV in this condition for a good while, or maybe ever! No trades or offers please. Collection preferred as I would like you to try before you buy. I can also offer excellent, in-person bass chat (another pun intended) and as much tea/coffee as you desire if you make the effort to come and see me. However I am willing to ship if preferred - please contact me to discuss though as I will need to arrange. Also feel free to check out my feedback here and approach me with confidence 😊

  2. Unique GB Spitfire / Pbass 4 string passive bass for sale (no trades thank you). This is a unique bass, a true one of a kind instrument, handmade by Bernie Goodfellow. I commission this bass from Berne in 2013 to fulfil the need of a ‘60s inspired, high quality, light weight, best of both jazz and P bass. The instrument has delivered in all respects and indeed exceeded my expectations. jazz neck - 38 mm nut (modelled on an 60’s Jazz bass Bernie had) P bass / spitfire body - slightly slimmer and downsized with an extended upper horn alder body stunning birds-eye maple neck 100+ year old Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard (from an old Victorian banister!) volume, volume, tone passive controls coil tap and serial / parallel on pick ups for different tones (pull up on volume nobs) About 4kg / 8.8lb on bathroom scales Great balance condition is very good A very comfortable bass to play and the P/J pick ups give the best of both worlds. The different combinations from the pick up options give plenty of tonal variation. The craftsmanship from Bernie is as always top notch. I’ll be really sorry to see this bass go but life moves on. The bass comes with the original GB Hiscox hard case. It currently has flat wound strings on. Can provide a nice Harvest leather strap if you like for free. I had a look on Bernie’s website and a normal Spitfire 4 string would be approx £2345. Bearing in mind that this bass is unique and has real Brazilian Rosewood for the fingerboard. £1750 (sale only no trades) Buyer to pay the shipping cost (happy to have a chat about this to make the best arrangement) or you’re very welcome to collect the bass from Dorchester, Dorset. You can watch a video demonstrating the various tones of the bass: https://youtu.be/koBbxk7ghqE Thanks for looking

  4. Another change up from me. Swiss army essentials board that can (and will, eventually) link up to the Schmidt Array studio board with everything else on it. The plan is to acquire a Morningstar ML10X for the Schmidt Array, as I already own the MC8. That will link up with this board via the magic of TRS/MIDI giving me total preset/patch control of every pedal on each board. Bass > Morningstar ML5 > HX Stomp (with Bright Onion Aux switch) > Khan VTDI ML5 Loops are as follows: A > Peterson StrobostompHD B > Aguilar Octamizer C > Origin Cali76 (running at 18v) D > Hamstead Subspace E > TRS splitter cable MIDI Chain - Out of HX Stomp > IN of ML5 (Eventually the MIDI IN of HX Stomp will connect to the MOD Patchbay - More on that later) The MOD Patchbay on the Rockboard is where my dual board fantasy comes to life 🤣i All are TRS inputs/outputs so this makes a lot of what I want to do possible, with just a few cables. A - Input from Bass to the ML5 B - Will eventually run a TRS to 5 Pin MIDI cable to the MIDI In of the Stomp. There will be a corresponding cable on the Schmidt too, which is connected to the MC8/ML10X combo so when the boards are connected with a TRS cable, it will allow the MC8 to talk to the ML10X, ML5 and HX Stomp, yet when disconnected the Stomp will just control the ML5. C - Haven't decided what this will be used for yet D - Connects to the TRS Splitter cable in Loop E of the ML5. Another of these on the TRS Patchbay on the Schmidt Array will allow me to patch the whole Schmidt Array board into loop E of the ML5 with a single TRS cable. E - 1/4" Out from the Khan VTDI to Amp XLR - DI Out from the Khan VTDI to Mixing Desk Here is a pic of the underside for good measure. Power is split at the MOD, one goes direct to the Khan, the other to the Generator. Distributor is powering the Temple Audio USB Adaptor, the GigRig Doubler for the Cali76, the Isolator and the Stomp (just awaiting a GigRig Mr Universe to power the Stomp, and we're good to go!) and the Isolator is powering the Subspace, Octamizer, ML5 and StrobostompHD. Distributor also has a spare 9v out hanging loose (seen hanging from the bottom of the board in this pic) which charges my Bluetooth footswitch for my iPad.

  5. Selling my crazy good LeFay Remington 5. Unfortunately I can’t manage it without fretlines. Specs: Body: American Cherry Neck: Padouk, Scale 86,4 cm (34 inch) Fretboard: Stainless Steel 27 "frets", Ebony binding, fret markers and side dots Finish: Acryl Satin Bridge: Le Fay Pickups: 3 Le Fay Singlecoils Cockpit: Volume, Bass, Treble 6-fach Pickup-Selector Passive Treble Build Year: No idea Weight: 4210 g Bag/Case ? Don’t know really. Have to look in my garage. The Remington is an exceptional sounding fretess bass, plays quite easy (with talent). The steel board doesnt sound metallic in any way. From jazzy fusion sounds to amazing sad MWAH you can achieve a huge bandwidth of great fretless tones. Condition is absolutely top, besides some playing waer on the board, which is not affecting sound & feel. SOLD

  7. And so...to the colour. As I said above, the 'clear' coat can make a difference. Manchester Guitar Tech offer not only the Shell Pink, but also a lightly tinted clear finish that adds a touch of older varnish browning. Problem is, that with clear-clear final varnish, it looks pink and with the tinted-clear, which I did on the hatch to test, it was heading much more towards flesh/peach. So my question to @Happy Jack was 'Which do you prefer?' Never as simple as that... Another challenge. "Well, it will never be seen in daylight, so choose whichever looks best in the low / coloured lighting of our gigs..." That evening, I turned the lights down low and compared the clear-clear body(pinkish) with the tinted-clear hatch (peachish). Hmmm...the pink body looked like a white bass in low light. But the peach hatch looked pink!! I took a punt and sprayed tinted-clear over the body. But, to be certain, I needed a better test. That Saturday Night Fever dress up and disco light kit that MrsAndyjr1515 bought me when we were still on speaking terms... At last! So I donned the white suit, dyed my hair, got all the floor stuff down and plugged in, parked the painted bass up against the included Bee Gee's framed picture (it's the Deluxe disco kit) and turned the lounge lights off and the disco lights on! Yup - it was pink!!!! So here it is, looking decidedly peachy in the daylight, with just the clear-clear coats left to do:

  8. Hi all, up for sale is my Origin Effects 64 Black Panel BassRIG pedal. It's seen a couple of gigs (always on, never stomped on!) but is in as new condition, save for the velcro applied to the back. I'm the first owner and I bought it brand new, direct from Origin so it comes with the box and manual too. I've decided to go in a slightly different direction gear-wise and this is surplus to requirements. It's a great pedal that I would love to keep around, however the money could be better spent (I want more pedals, but the missus is insisting I put it towards the wedding!) It's a heavy beast so postage will be a little more than your average pedal, but I'm happy to split the cost of that with you if you meet my asking price. As always, collection is welcome from Windsor, or I'm constantly travelling for gigs so happy to drop it in en route if you live nearby. My gigs this week (Thurs-Sunday) take me to Torquay, Hayes, Newport and Lincoln. Cheapest I can find brand new is DV247 at £377. So save yourself just over £60 on an essentially brand new pedal. Thanks for reading!

  10. Lovely example of a DJ5 in Pearl white. The photos should tell you everything you need to know, but drop me a PM off you have any questions. The only blemish I can find is the small scuff beneath the string through holes on the back. Plays as it should and sounds amazing. No trades please.

  11. I am testing the water for a couple of weeks ....... Ernie Ball Musician Stingray, made in California. Obviously not the Sterling version this is the real (and pretty rare) thing......In sunburst with a roasted maple neck, it looks gorgeous and plays beautifully. Neodymium pickup, passive, push/push volume boost, parallel/single/series switch, and tone pot. With original hard case and case candy. Just have to accept that Stingrays are not for me! £1600 Collection from North London only at present as I have no packaging Not looking for offers...thanks.

  12. Just thought I'd shoot a mention for the 800w Markbass 4x10 cab. For me, lovely tone. And although bulky, so light! Everyone raves about the ultra-portable Barefaced cabs but this MB has twice the speakerage yet is entirely manageable, even for a old buffer with atrophied muscles and heart disease. I bought it with casters fitted but I've just taken them off, because the simple woodscrews worked loose and also the wheels added to the weight without being especially useful or necessary. In fact, any issue with the cab is in its size rather than weight. It's taken me 11 years to find The One and it ain't going anywhere in a hurry (well, until tomorrow anyway). [Edit: Pic shows the 410 mounted experimentally on an amp stand. Post post I tried it out. While it looks cool I was astonished how much this bled off the cab's oomph - totally cut its balls off. Why I have no idea. Experiment hastily reversed and cab now back on the floor]

  13. Do you mean detuning one oscillator against the other to get beating/phasing? Yep, that’s cool. At some point I should go back and program some more sounds for the C4 but I’ve been mega busy with other (cool) stuff.

  14. Definitely this. The comments on the vids are always from sad old blues gear snobs. "It's got no feel man" Not to you. But maybe to the person who's just spent months nailing a really complex part it is the most emotionally connecting music they have ever heard. They wouldn't have learned the part if it didn't call to them in some way. Doesn't matter in the slightest that a piece doesn't speak to me. Fair play to them - many are really young and are in the "play along to favourite records" stage of development. Some will stay in that groove and be in covers bands. Some will go on to write some banging original music. The only difference is that for my generation we didn't have a chance to share our play-alongs with the world. The amount of really capable young players on youtube makes me feel really hopeful for the future of music. There's some really dedicated youngsters out there with a work ethic that shames many of us.

  15. Offers considered. 🙂 No trades, I'm afraid. I'm selling my absolutely beautiful Spector NS Pulse II 5-string, in Ultra Violet Matte finish. Purchased from Andertons earlier this year. The condition of the bass is excellent, and has only seen light use at home. Absolutely no blemishes or issues of any kind. Non smoking home, of course. It's a really excellent sounding bass, and plays beautifully. The recent basstheworld review did it justice. It has many of the characteristic Spector qualities: Comfortable ergonomics, easy neck, quality hardware, rich tones. I think the finish is gorgeous, purple stain on quilted maple top. I'm sad to have to sell it, but it was only ever intended as a stop-gap while my Bongo was out of action. I'm open to offers, but no trades. Happy to ship the bass, in the original packaging. Specs: 5-string. 35" scale. Bolt-on Ash body with maple top (this, possibly veneer). Roasted maple neck, matte. Ebony fingerboard. Spector Tone Pump Jr. EMG pickups.

  18. Why are people baffled by the desire to hear the tone of a bass amplified without alteration? Of course other parts of the signal chain are going to colour the sound but why not have the option of adding what you want e.g. amp modelling to an otherwise “flat” amplified signal? Seems pretty valid to me. My mustang sounds sh#te through a scooped bass amp but lovely through my flat(ish) channel strip which I can tweak as required.

  20. I want to see a complete reset of YouTube musicians. I’m utterly sick of fretboard gymnastics and tricks. In MY opinion we need to go back to basics, and encourage young players to learn simple grooves, a la: Tina Weymouth, Robbie Shakespeare etc….. real bass grooves, that make people smile and want to dance. Surely the whole point? It was when I started in the early 80s. There are too many “look what I can do” musicians on social media. It never was about what you can do mate….. it’s about the song, the whole song and nothing but the song. Sorry for the rant.

  22. For those asking themselves how a stainless steel fingerboard sounds, it's really between Brazilian rosewood and ebony. This was recorded with my own Le Fay Remington Steele 6 RHT CC CAP Big Block, one take, passive mode, 2/3 of bridge pickup in parallel, tone closed at 70%, slight reverb and Elixir nickel plated strings. 23. So. MASSIVE thanks to @Russ who has been an absolute legend; I found a B-Stock TE-1200 on Peavey’s ebay page but they’d only ship to the US. Russ kindly took it in for me, and then arranged postage to the UK. I owe him several beers, for here is possibly the first TE-1200 on UK soil (aside from John Taylor’s ones…)

  24. ACG Skelf Type "R". Serial number 0097 and was Alan's own bass at one time. Black Limba body with a figured Redwood top. Padauk/Wenge/Maple 5 piece neck with an Acrylic Impregnated Wenge finger board. Asymmetric neck carve with a flat finger board. Luminlay fret markers. ACG SEQ+ pre-amp which is the standard SEQ but with an additional high pass stack. Pickups are a coil-tapped RFB humbucker and SBT single coil. The single coil also has a tap in the windings and is overwound to give a nice aggressive tone and when tapped it becomes a smoother tone. Hipshot Type A bridge 18 mm spacing and Hipshot Ultralites. Schaller straplocks.. Satin finish. Weight 8.25lbs There is minute ding on the front that I only spotted when giving it a microscopic look over. Couldn't photograph it as it is just a small depression. Otherwise it is immaculate. Alan reckons it would cost around £3k to build another of these and is one of a kind. I'm moving to medium scale basses due to the onset of arthritis so not really interested in trades, unless 32" scale 5 string. Reduced to £1550 Further reduction to £1395 before it goes for a commission sale.

  25. A very special hand built electric bass guitar by world renowned American luthier Rob Allen. With its chambered body (with walnut top) and piezo pickup system, combined with the LaBella nylon wrapped strings and small frets, this bespoke instrument is ideal for jazz or for copping that acoustic, almost upright bass sound. This example is crazy light, yet balances superbly

  26. Was unsure where to put this as it can be a preamp too amongst many other things. Received my Big Trees yesterday and had a very quick play. Initial thoughts are it sounds really good. I’ve previously owned the noble and was after an interface that could also overdrive itself. I’ve only used it for five minutes but I’m thinking this will meet my expectations.

  31. Why would you want a flat response setting on your amp for a non-flat response instrument? A good sounding amp (be if for bass, guitar, PA or hifi) is not ever going to be on flat settings in actual use. There would be only one real world application for it and that is calibration. If your ears won't tell you what a fairly neutral setting is, but they'll tell you what sounds good to you... That's the best we can wish for.

  33. Dear Points of View, What has happened to Mr L Smalls ?I am now in a state of confusion and mild panic. This is due to the fact that I have been able to listen to the last three of his compositions from start to finish. In the seven years that I've been involved in this murky corner of the internet, I can assure you that this is a first. Has the short sighted octopus of fate, finally mounted the bagpipes of destiny ? Regards Miss Trellis

  35. It's been a while.... I dallied with multi fx. Thought this is great, got an HX Stomp, but added a wah. And added a Boss SY-1. And an outboard tuner. And a Boss OC-2. Realised I was barely using the HX Stomp so I sold it. Now this is my board.... Bass>smoothound wireless. Smoothound into Fender Downtown Express with compressor engaged, drive and EQ ready to go. Tuner out going to HB micro tuner. Fender Downtown Express going out to Boss OC-2 Boss OC-2 into Darkglass Duality Fuzz. Fuzz into SY-1 that has the Nektar expression pedal. Finally, the AMT Bass wah. I love sending the OC-2 into the fuzz set low on the old school setting. And sending that fuzz into the SY-1. The wah and SY-1 don't get used that often. I'm still finding places for the OC-2 but when I used it live at the weekend the sound-man jumped 😄 Happy to take any advice on pedal order and setting etc.

  36. In the 80s, an English rock musician "had his own style" (or summat), as reported in the media. He responded along the lines of: "What they seem to not realise is that I just repeat my limitations". IMHO that deserves respect.

  37. It's possible that a lot of these kids are creative as well as having the ability to play the covers really well. They might just put their own music up in their Bandcamp or Soundcloud and post the covers, almost as clickbait, to get people to check out their original stuff.

  38. I agree. I genuinely dont know why or how barefaced get all the credit for lightweight cabs when markbass have been doing it for years and years. I've had a 6x10 at 32kg and currently use a 2x10 combo at 15kg, and that's built like a tank and an easy one handed lift. They sound so much richer to me as well. The amps have heft and the cabs sound like bass cabs should. The newest line look crazy light. 4x10s at 15kg !

  39. I can't think of a single musician in any of the bands I really like who stands out as being more than adequate when it comes to technique. Maybe they do have "great chops" but in the context of their usual playing I don't see/hear it. What these musicians do have is great song writing and the ability when playing together to produce something that is far greater than the sum of their musical parts.

Though a few other faves haven’t been namechecked yet… John G Perry (ex Caravan, Giltrap etc) John Gustafson (ex Roxy Music, Giltrap Gillan Band etc) Jimmy Johnson (James Taylor et al) Laurence Cottle (Alan Parsons, Sabbath etc) Bob Daisley (Gary Moore and others) Well, that’s another “Five” list.

  44. The second hand bass prices in Guitarguitar is shocking. A second hand MM Sterling from 2000, £1899 - a 2021 US P pro 2, £1599 - a 2002 US Standard P, £1199. I like GG, have bought quite a few things in there over the years but they are just taking the p with those prices. I guess that they wont be the only ones doing this but the price of the Sterling in particular made me scratch my head. I can understand the new prices but s/h asking prices are just getting silly now.
