*Price drop, now £450 delivered* For sale (no trade offers please) is a Fender Mexican (MIM) Precision bass in lovely Lake Placid Blue with maple neck, in a mint condition Fender hard case. Long scale, right handed. It has a 2013 serial number, but according to Fender's serial number check, it was registered in 2014. I've read that the quality of MIM Fender basses improved a fair bit post 2008, then again in 2012. This certainly seems to be the case to me. This is a rock solid P bass, with a really nice & fairly slim neck. I've only had this a few weeks, and only selling as I was very naughty and bought another bass before this had even arrived & have decided to keep that one. If that hadn't come up, I'd have happily kept this one, but alas I have to let it go. The bass came to me with a pair of nice upgrades, in the form of Seymour Duncan pickups (possibly Quarter Pounders, I haven't had the plate off to check), and what I think is a Hipshot Kickass hi-mass bridge with adjustable string spacing. It has a lovely gloss maple fingerboard & headstock, with a nice fast satin urethane finish on the back of the neck. It is a relatively slim, very playable P bass neck, with a front to back thickness (measured with calipers) at the 1st fret of 0.820 inches, and at the 12th fret of 0.893 inches. Usual P nut width of 1.625 inches. It weighs 4.1Kg (9lbs) on my digital luggage scales and balances well. Stock open gear tuners, strung with unknown nickel roundwounds with life left in them. Excellent condition, with only minor wear / small knock marks consistent with age, no deep dings or chunks missing, only paint removed is a small knock of 1cm around the bridge strap button, and there are a couple of tiny knocks on the underside of the headstock. The case is a quality, well padded mint condition Fender 'Pro series bass case' with tag still attached & keys present, and a decent sized open pocket for cables, etc. Lake Placid Blue is one of those colours I think looks better in person, there was sunlight coming in when I took the photos, it's not quite as bright and shiny up close. Collection possible from Southport, meet-up in North West within reason, or posted to mainland UK address at buyer's expense of 30 pounds on top of sale price. This is for Parcelforce 24 hour next day, fully protected, trackable delivery (live tracking possible on the day). I should be able to ship within 1 working day of payment being received. Feel free to check my Basschat feedback and please PM if interested, or wanting more photos. NO TRADE OFFERS WHATSOEVER PLEASE. I don't need any more basses, just some money and space back.10 points

Stingray 4 in honey burst with RW board, good condition, I’d give it an 8/10, 3eq, really nice grain to the neck, I’ve priced this to sell as something else has come up, so thanks but no offers or trades and I ideally need to complete this week. I’m willing to travel a bit for a meet/pick up. Dunlop bright light wounds & strap locks (padded case)8 points

Incoming! Not in my sticky mitts yet but soon will be. An '85 BB1100S fretless. (Sellers pictures) Very kindly @Len_derbyoffered to go out of his way and collect it for me from Coalville. He's heading down my way(ish) in a weeks time so I'll drive up and meet him. Can't wait. 😁8 points

Just got in from a gig at The Dublin Castle in Camden. Was fortunate enough to find parking right outside, so all good there. 4 bands on so a bit of gear sharing, decent sized crowd who appreciated all the bands. Load out not too bad considering it was 11:30 in a packed pub. Overall it was the first gig I’ve really relaxed into in this band - which is only the fifth one I’ve done, and with a different set list at each - just felt more at ease, which was nice.8 points

Not the best, but not the worst. Local gig. We arrive to find there's two bands assigned to the same slot of 2x 45' sets. It's a music venue in town where the kit and backline are provided, so it's easy to set up. Manager says how about we play one set each, full pay. Ok, we went first, soon after 10pm. I was home at 11.30. Not what I had in mind but no complaints.6 points

My 80s Goth revivalists duo played as part of Swindon Shuffle last night. Work has been so busy I'd clocked up 19hrs overtime in the past 36hrs (I actively avoid spending more time at work than I have to these days) and we hadn't rehearsed since July. Our tech spec was probably too ambitious for a multi band bill where a line check was all that was going to happen but we soldiered through it. I lost the bass completely at a couple of points and I think the young soundman was a little out of his depth with a PA that was not really up to the job but we were professional to get through it and make a fair few new followers / fans. Against all odds, I'd say we triumphed.6 points

Played at The Stage Door in Southampton on Friday. What a great little place! All PA and lights were in house, so just had to bring a backline. A really helpful and knowledgeable sound engineer helped create a great sound for the band and the place was really busy. First pic is from my phone after we'd soundchecked, second pic is a still from a video taken during the show.6 points

My two compact boards. The bigger (Metro 20) is tuned for doom/sludge/stoner: 5 strings, big lows, lots of dirt, lots of volume. Small one (Metro 16) I’m using to play post-punk/goth/hardcore: 4 strings, somewhat cleaner, more cutting tones, played higher up the fretboard. Many similarities between the boards. Different goals though, so much that it really is much easier to have two different sets of pedals.6 points

Just played a wedding in a tent in a field. I too am in bed before midnight which is awesome. However. It's not my bed. It's a 10 quid Air BnB and it took me 6 1/2 hours to get here. So I most definitely win in one way but my goodness the M5 and M6 route north is not the easy drive it once was.5 points

It really was a game of two halves last night. First set was dogged with problems, singer’s wireless mic set up was getting interference from somewhere and kept clipping. Spotted it during sound check but there was a compère as it was a charity do and we didn’t have sufficient time to sort it as we had to sort his sound. Also had issues with one of the lighting booms unraveling itself with a subsequent crash to the ground. Fortunately the second set went fine but singer was a bit gutted (it was a local gig for him) as he’d heard negative comments about the first spot. C’est la vie, people went home happy so all ends well and all that, also raised over £2k for the cancer charity. It was the first gig where I’d used my Status that I bought new last year...it really was a tone monster but perhaps a bit OTT for a glam band, the leds did help on a dark stage though. Only one crap photo as we had no partners on this one.4 points

Outdoor backyard private party , piano trio. Nice little gig , played from 8-12 beside the pool, it was starting to get a little cool but fall is underway. Fingers were cold by the end of the night. But a sweet little gig!4 points

Just back from playing at The Old Star in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. It’s a pub that consistently supports live music, has a proper stage and friendly, obliging staff. But……bands play outside in a courtyard area. By the end of the second set tonight it definitely felt chilly. Time to get the hand warmers out again.4 points

I played at a local music bar in Edinburgh. There was a Spanish guy, I'd never met before, on the desk and he got a great sound onstage (I had to ask him to turn the bass down through my monitor - yes THAT good). Sound on stage was great, hope it was great out front too. As I was leaving I saw what I thought was a huge band bringing all their gear in - there must have been ten of them - and they were in a heated discussion. What I only learned later, was that they were two bands not one, as there had been a double booking for the slot after us. The bands were not happy and after some discussion they got to play half a set each, which must have been a real pain in the butt. The moral of this story is, if you're playing at a venue, check the Facebook site on the day of the gig so that you don't get a nasty surprise when you turn up.3 points

EBay and Facebook marketplace are usable if you’re within driving distance and arrange cash on receipt, for bass gear. Basschat is WAY safer. It’s a good community and kind of self regulates, by outing bad guys. There are real people with real reviews, for previous transactions which you can turn to. I’ve had MANY purchases on Basschat, and I’ve placed my trust, and never been let down yet. obviously that doesn’t mean there can’t be one rotten egg, but you’re much less likely to fall foul. The only thing I don’t like about purchases on BC is the prevalence of F&F payment. I prefer to pay the PayPal charge and maintain my buyers rights, for an extra layer of safety.3 points

It's a difficult one. I know I'll be playing in bands until it becomes absolutely physically impossible, so why should I begrudge others the same? As a punter I'm reasonably lucky in that very few of the bands that I liked when I was first getting into music still exist in any gigging form so I'm unlikely to be disappointed, and there are plenty of new young bands coming up playing music I like, that I can go and see. Because of the genre both my current bands move in, I get to see a lot of bands that were reasonably famous back in the 80s and 90s because we are supporting them. Whilst all of them can still cut it from a performance PoV, the depressing thing for me is that most of them are completely happy to trade on songs that are at best 25 years old. I know that on the whole audiences want to hear what they know and like, but there's not even a token song from the "new album" mostly because there is no new album. It's never been easier to record and release music without needing record label backing, so why aren't they doing it? It's as though their creative abilities got switched off sometime in the late 90s. Notable exceptions to the above are Toyah and Mark Burgess.3 points

I’ve shopped with Mark / Bass Direct a fair bit over the years, and have always found him to be very helpful and accommodating. If you ask for his opinion, he’s happy to give it, and it’s always been sound advice offered, and based on experience.3 points

No, it will be chrome, Mick. If you remember, the starting point was the finished neck fully loaded with Chrome Hipshot Ultralites - so it was always intended to be chrome hardware. Trust me - it will look splendid when it's all put together But those dice knobs Jack's set his heart on...hmmm.... Naaaah! On more basic items, I've decided on the hardware fixings and I'm going for threaded inserts and machine screws throughout. M3 allen-socketed A2 stainless for the bridge and jack plate from the 'kiddies in a sweetshop' experience that is the ACCU website : The machine screws for the pickup will also be M3, but with smaller crosshead tops to fit in the pickup recesses. Use of inserts should mean that the inherent softness of the paulownia doesn't become a problem with the fixtures and fittings.3 points

Just thought I would share my thoughts on my latest purchase. I picked it up locally and my expectations weren't that high, as the prospect of a "passive ray" seemed to strange to me. I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised at how good it plays and sounds. It sounds great, that ray sound really sings. Other things that I had heard were "they are really heavy; finish is horrible etc.". Again, pleasantly surprised as it feels great in the hand. Plays well and weights 9lb, which is my ideal weight. Anyone else playing or have playing experiences of these? I would be interested to hear of the live experience. Picture attached as proof! 😉2 points

Received this just the other day after BillyBass posted it up on here as being on a blowout deal with PMT. Have looked it over and over and can't see any flaw. Action was high when it arrived - now sorted and there was no battery in. Originally thought I had a dud. Also there is no passive tone control which is a bit of a missed opportunity. The good bits - the roasted neck is an absolute joy - it has a really comfortable profile and luminlay side dots. The DiMarzios sound great passive and the preamp is not anywhere near as bad as I was expecting. This is some hiss on the treble and mid pots but only at the extreme end of travel. I tried it passive through my Sadowsky SBP2 preamp pedal and...well it has that sound which with my Valenti having the Sadowsky preamp and the subject of my NBD pt2 also having one, I'm growing to love that signature tone more than any other I think. Lots of other cool little appointments on this bass but lastly the lustre to the finish is up there with the USA Musicman and G&L basses Ive owned. The pics really don't do it justice. Looking forward to gigging this one next weekend!2 points

Now £2000 with free mainland UK shipping I may live to regret this but up for sale is my Vigier Passion IV (2020). What is there to say about these basses. They have a very loyal and passionate (pun intended) following here on Basschat, and with very good reason. The proprietary pickups in their ‘bridge-biased’ position provide untold amounts of punch. The 3-band preamp also gives you access to a huge amount of different tones, so chances are that whatever style of music you’re playing you’ll find the right sound here. This bass cuts through the mix like no-one’s business, is super comfortable to play and has the best finish of any instrument I’ve laid my hands on. There are a couple of slightly uncommon features on this bass that are also worth highlighting. The first is that there is no truss rod. This is because the neck is made from phenowood – that is, wood injected with a phenolic resin which means that the neck doesn’t move as a result of temperature or environment changes. So no more worrying about bowed necks or fiddly setups! The other cool feature is the locking input jack. Once your cable is plugged in it’s not going anywhere, so you’re unlikely to suffer from loose connections or accidentally pulling your cable out mid-set. Other specs are (taken from the Vigier website): Neck Wood : Maple naturally dried for 3 years Shape : D Finish : Glossy Width of neck at nut : 40 mm/1.57 " Width of neck at last fret : 56,4mm / 14.32 " Depth of neck at first fret : 19,5mm / .76 " Depth of neck at 12th fret : 23mm / .90 " String spacing at nut : 31,5 mm / 1.24 " String spacing at bridge : 53 mm / 2.125 " Action as supplied at 12th fret, treble : 1.8 mm / .0709 " Action as supplied at 12th fret, bass : 2.3mm / .0906 " Type of nut : Teflon nut + hardened zero fret technology Fingerboard Wood : Phenowood Radius : 300mm/11.81 " Type of frets : Medium Number of frets : 24 Scale length : 860mm / 33.8 " Inlay : Dots Body Wood : Flamed maple / alder / flamed maple naturally aged Finish : Varnish dries for 5 weeks minimum Accessories Machine heads brand name : Schaller Type of bridge : One bridge per string End pin : Brass casing that inserts deep into the body and locks the strap button in place Finish : Chrome Electronics Pickup brand name : Vigier Type of pickup : Single, twin coil in line Switch : Balance Controls : Volume Balance Bass Medium Treble Shielding : Conductive paint Miscellaneous Weight : 3,8Kg / 8.3lbs This bass is immaculate (to the extent the original stickers are still present!) – home use only and without any significant dings or scratches. The only reason I’m selling is because it’s not getting the attention it deserves and I could do with the cash for other things. I also believe that Patrice Vigier has now closed his order books as he is retiring – so short of keeping your fingers crossed and hoping one pops up for sale elsewhere, this is probably your best bet of getting a Passion IV in this condition for a good while, or maybe ever! No trades or offers please. Collection preferred as I would like you to try before you buy. I can also offer excellent, in-person bass chat (another pun intended) and as much tea/coffee as you desire if you make the effort to come and see me. However I am willing to ship if preferred - please contact me to discuss though as I will need to arrange. Also feel free to check out my feedback here and approach me with confidence 😊2 points

A already mentioned, a tenor uke is much easier to play for 'average' sized hands. Not to say you can't play a soprano, just that it's easier. It shouldn't make any difference if your uke is a different size to the ones the kids are using as you won't be using theirs. Hobgoblin do a good range of ukes to suit all pockets, but generally you'd be looking at around £100 for a decent instrument that you'll be using everyday. Don't forget to budget for a case. Maybe ask the company if they have a deal for their teachers, unless of course you're looking to learn to play the instrument before the interview...! Good luck...2 points

Regarding size of uke, I would suggest a tenor (I used to have several ukes, sadly all lost in a recent fire, the tenors became my goto before I started playing the bass). The fret spacings are wider. It is not uncommon to use a low G string, where the G is an octave lower than 'normal', it gives it a richer sound. Regarding brand, Kala make good ukes and start at not silly money (High end ukes can cost thousands!). S'manth x2 points

If in a rural location, an electric fence might be the source of such interference. It's the case at our cottage; the car picks it up when tuned to Radio 4 long wave, too.2 points

I’m quite pleased with the results. I’ve never considered myself much of a handyman before. The last time I tried to solder I burned myself and the carpet. My dad usually keeps his DIY tools locked away, out of my reach. He’s away on holiday though, and I know where he keeps the key.2 points

If you're not switching them on and off mid song, you could put the board (or a customised version of it) on the amp/cab or even in a purpose made stand - they remain accessible but clear of the performance area. As easy access by foot is no longer required, you can source or make a board to fit the footprint of the amp/cab/stand or if you rack them, to fit on a rack tray. I made a small stand from an old music stand to house my in-ear monitor kit. I started by using the full music stand with the lectern bit flat but it was bigger than I needed, so I used an old off-cut of MDF, covered it in black tape and bolted the lectern swivel attachment to it. It's just the right height so I can make adjustments, but the overall footprint is small and it can sit out of the way on stage (usually behind the PA speaker).2 points

This has been a lot of work, but this is our promo video. This kinda started semi seriously to have fun playing hard music with my friends but I've decided to try and get out doing shows. I'm Scottish, so my accent is wrong for singing like Mark King so I just tried to sing in my voice. I am also not a singer! There's obviously some autotune at work, but we probably only spent about 10 hours in the studio recording the audio for this! My singing is...passable live. My sister (who is filling the role of Mike Lindup) is an outstanding singer, who fronts my other band called Danger Zone (wedding/events band). Level 42 splits people. Some people hate slap bass out of principle for some reason. For me, it's hugely enjoyable and highly expressive. So I'm aware I'm going to take flack for even attempting something like this! So be it. I'm well aware of the failings of this band (my vocals!). However, the guys in the band are top notch and I want to show off our hard work. This has been a very challenging project from start to finish. In truth, we don't sound much different live - thought obviously the singing is not a good. I can sing and play the parts no problem, the drummer is super humanly tight and our keyboard player is also a masterful sound engineer. We use a Soundcraft UI24 which is awesome. The bass was my JayDee through a Trace Elliot GP12 with what I think is the correct EQ setting. The only track with the Status was "Heathrow" I'm trying to get this band out doing shows, but my home town of Dundee is dismal for live music. I guess I need a promoter or an agent. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated!2 points

Did you get bottled off stage? Yes = not a good gig, no = a good gig. If the crowd enjoyed themselves and you got paid, it's always a good gig. We're always too quick to find fault with what we do, life's too short to focus on the negatives.2 points
