Well, this is going to hurt a bit. I try to avoid hyperbole in ads, and for this one, the images should do most of the talking. However, I would say this is possibly the most beautiful bass that I have owned (and there have been many). To illustrate the point, on viewing this instrument, my wife, who genuinely could not be any less interested in basses, exclaimed 'WOW!' Now she's seen a few very nice instruments but none have elicited any remark whatsoever. So to business. A US Stuart Spector signed NS2 in Ultra Amber finish - it took me ages to source this one. It has the (unusual) solid 5A quilted maple wings - from what I read, this implied a significant upcharge - around £1000 in 2017, the year of build. I'm also told that the neck is around 2mm shallower than is normal (at the request of the commissioning purchaser). Nut width is 1.64" and the scale is 34". Abalone inlays on the Pau Ferro board. I can't find any blemishes or imperfections anywhere - I'd say that the bass could pretty much pass for as new. The amber burst is vibrant and beautiful and the timbers used throughout are outstanding - even the ebony head cap is subtly gorgeous. EMG X PJ pickups and the 9v Haz pre. It sounds like a Spector. I have the action extremely low - probably too low for most - and the bass is strung with D'Addario 40-95 nickel rounds as far as I can remember. Playability is superb, though the bass is simply too big for me. I started to play short-scale pretty much exclusively around 4 years ago and moving back to long-scale is now a struggle. The bass just isn't getting any use. In terms of history, I believe that the bass was supplied to a dealer in Canada in early 2018 (build date is December 2017). I think that the bass sold in North America, then found its way to Switzerland, from where I purchased it around 18 months ago. I can't see any evidence of play from either of the previous owners - I suspect that the bass has been noodled and then returned to its case. Really, I doubt you'd find a Spector in better condition. I have the Spector branded hard-case but apparently, this wasn't original to the bass. The case has a knock/crack in the rear surface (not obvious or visible, though it's there) and the internal foam has minor damage where the upper horn sits. I also have a Gator hard case of the type that Spector now supplies for its basses, though mine isn't Spector branded and has some minor signs of wear. If any prospective buyer wishes to arrange their own courier, I suggest that it is shipped in the Gator case for added protection. Collection in Manchester is great, of course, though if a purchaser requires shipment and can arrange this, I can print labels, find a strong carton and pack well. As far as I can see, a bass like this commissioned today would cost somewhere significantly north of £6k. I'm taking quite a substantial hit on the instrument (as noted above, I imported from Switzerland with all the tax and shipping costs that this involves) so I'm not looking for any offers or trades thanks. Any questions, please just ask. The images were taken on a dark and wet afternoon in the North. I'll try to get something far better in place by tomorrow - any specific images, again please just ask.18 points

2021 EBMM Stingray Special 5H in Smoked Chrome. Immaculate condition including original hard case and case. I would love to keep on looks alone but can't justify such an expensive fiver when I can barely play fours! Only things of note are playing marks to pickguard, two tiny grazes to headstock, and a pinhead impression to rear of headstock (all very minor). These do suffer from the G string slipping off, I believe due to the proximity of the string to the edge of the fretboard and the lovely tapered fret edges. I found it needed some adjustment to technique but if you haven't played one, worth mentioning. £1800, no trades thanks. Would much prefer collection in Orpington BR6 or I'm happy to drive up to an hour away to meet. I can also get it to family in Meppershall, Beds, but no amp to try there. If no local interest will consider postage.13 points

This guy try to scam me once many years ago (over 12years) he rented some radio mics from me for a long term hire and then never returned them. Turned out he’d pawned them to find his gambling debt. I eventually got them back by sending a local nutter round to have a word with him. Mick Mason / Michael Mason whatever he calls himself is a long time scammer.9 points

Offering my Moollon P-Classic bass as thinning out my P bass collection (I mainly play jazz basses). These are usually going for over $4k in the US and have a 3-4 year waiting list for new orders. Considered by many to be the best substitutes for pre-CBS basses (together with Olinto) at a fraction of the price; used by players such as Tim Lefebvre, Michael League, Scott Divine, Richard Bona, and Jonathan Maron. Everything is hand made and in-house including the pickups, nitro finishing, hardware using the same 1960s alloy, etc. 3.8kg / 8.3lbs Full specs here http://www.moollon.com/front/product/product_list.php?code=003 Have had it since new. It's in very good condition and has not been played much. The ultra thin nitro finish is starting to check/crack in some places as expected, no scratches - same as in vintage nitro painted Fenders. I'm looking for a straight sale only / no trades. My feedback post below:8 points

Not the design but the finish. Sunburst and/or tort are disgusting enough on their own, but when combined they are truly hideous 🤢🤮 Just add gold hardware for the holy trinity of awful bass aesthetics!8 points

1974 fender jazz 3 bolt neck bass. It comes with the usual dings that have been collected over the decades and it has been fitted with a Badass bridge but the original bridge along with the pickup covers and original labels and owners manual are included in the price. Rare and collectible colour (mocha brown) Also a Fender case is included but please note this is NOT the original case. £2000 ovno please for this classic piece. Any inspection welcome. I would prefer the buyer to collect rather than post. Sold to Briansbrew. Thank you so much, so are so kind and I hope you get as much enjoyment out of this beauty as I did.7 points

Really not sure I should be selling this, as it was part of the plan to future-proof my playing, as it is just so lightweight and easy on the shoulder and left hand joints. It weighs only around 3.2 or 3.3kg (I'll double check later). It has active electronics and sounds lovely. You can get typical P tones from it, but add a bit of Jazz "burble". The neck is also very slim (slimmer than some Fender J's) and very easy on the left hand. As for construction quality, it is a usual top drawer Fender Japan instrument. This bass has obviously been gigged quite a bit, and has quite a number of swirls & dings, chips etc - which I will photograph later. On the rear, there's an area of buckle-rash / paint chipping, and I decided to fill this area with modellers filler, to protect the wood and help prevent further chips to the edges of the finish. It looks a bit rough, but it's on the back and is doing its' job. Again, photos later. After purchase, I had the bass set up, with a fret level, dress & polish, professionally (I'll send Luthier details if you need them - chap called Ben in Penarth). Bags of life left in the frets. I had planned to mainly use this bass for gigging (hence not being worried about it being mint) - but now I always reach for my Classic 50's Fiesta Red Fender P, whether at home, rehearsals or gigging - it has become my "go-to" and all-time favouite bass every time. I'm thinking I might possibly go for something rather different to my usual choice of bass - so am reluctantly putting this up for sale. (Never thought I'd sell, but I've been on something of a clear-out lately - as I may be taking early retirement from full-time work next year). I don't want to post this bass - so Collection only (or may be able to meet somewhere half-way). Absolutely NO TRADES - I'm only selling to thin the herd.... and to maybe await that "different bass" - but take my time over it. I promised Mrs S I wouldn't buy before selling another. More pics later. These have rocketed in second-hand value in recent years, but I think the price reflects the chips & dings etc EDIT: Just putting this out there - I may be tempted by a trade, for a Mustang bass - but I'm specifically after one with P/J pickups. Not bothered whether it's a Fender or a Squier as long as it's a P/J. Cash either way or straight swap, depending on value of the Mustang EDIT2 - I'm possibly going to see a Mustang midweek.6 points

All three of the ABM combos have now been sold. I need to create some space in the house, so my three two one remaining ABM 300 1x15 combo is up for sale, £125. ABM 300 combo pictures now in this post. Great sound, but not as easy to carry about as my Barefaced/Little Bass Thing which I have been using for gigs recently. Suit somebody younger than me (65) and fitter than me (knackered). Collection from West Oxfordshire (between Abingdon & Witney) or could meet up to about 40 miles away. I have no boxes for them and they are too heavy to courier safely.5 points

Almost a year after paying my deposit it finally arrive this week. I was a bit nervous about having paid so much money for something I'd never played, but it's an amazing instrument. The construction is solid, the neck is a little chunkier than I'm used to, but it plays pretty easy after a few days. It balances perfectly seated and on the strap, and it sounds HUUUUGE!! The B string is massive! The body is mahogany (I think) and the neck is roasted maple, which I asked to be left unpainted. I was going for a 70s Fender look.4 points

I've never seen a bass so ugly that I didn't eventually end up gassing for one. Even those Foderas that look like a whale swallowing a ladder, I want to play one just to see why they built them like that, I'm imagining some sort of supreme ergonomic experience that makes perfect sense of the questionable aethetic.4 points

lol, I started my pedal journey with a HX Stomp thinking it'd suit me nicely. Then got a Boss OC 2, well, it's an analogue octave that the Stomp doesn't do that well, then an Aguilar Filter Twin, well, because it's an envelope filter that the Stomp doesn't do that well etc etc. Ended up trading the Stomp for a spare amp and continued to acquire a few more pedals ... ... and these are the ones not (obviously) on one of my already built 4 boards. Madness it is indeed!!!4 points

*Price drop, now £450 delivered* For sale (no trade offers please) is a Fender Mexican (MIM) Precision bass in lovely Lake Placid Blue with maple neck, in a mint condition Fender hard case. Long scale, right handed. It has a 2013 serial number, but according to Fender's serial number check, it was registered in 2014. I've read that the quality of MIM Fender basses improved a fair bit post 2008, then again in 2012. This certainly seems to be the case to me. This is a rock solid P bass, with a really nice & fairly slim neck. I've only had this a few weeks, and only selling as I was very naughty and bought another bass before this had even arrived & have decided to keep that one. If that hadn't come up, I'd have happily kept this one, but alas I have to let it go. The bass came to me with a pair of nice upgrades, in the form of Seymour Duncan pickups (possibly Quarter Pounders, I haven't had the plate off to check), and what I think is a Hipshot Kickass hi-mass bridge with adjustable string spacing. It has a lovely gloss maple fingerboard & headstock, with a nice fast satin urethane finish on the back of the neck. It is a relatively slim, very playable P bass neck, with a front to back thickness (measured with calipers) at the 1st fret of 0.820 inches, and at the 12th fret of 0.893 inches. Usual P nut width of 1.625 inches. It weighs 4.1Kg (9lbs) on my digital luggage scales and balances well. Stock open gear tuners, strung with unknown nickel roundwounds with life left in them. Excellent condition, with only minor wear / small knock marks consistent with age, no deep dings or chunks missing, only paint removed is a small knock of 1cm around the bridge strap button, and there are a couple of tiny knocks on the underside of the headstock. The case is a quality, well padded mint condition Fender 'Pro series bass case' with tag still attached & keys present, and a decent sized open pocket for cables, etc. Lake Placid Blue is one of those colours I think looks better in person, there was sunlight coming in when I took the photos, it's not quite as bright and shiny up close. Collection possible from Southport, meet-up in North West within reason, or posted to mainland UK address at buyer's expense of 30 pounds on top of sale price. This is for Parcelforce 24 hour next day, fully protected, trackable delivery (live tracking possible on the day). I should be able to ship within 1 working day of payment being received. Feel free to check my Basschat feedback and please PM if interested, or wanting more photos. NO TRADE OFFERS WHATSOEVER PLEASE. I don't need any more basses, just some money and space back.3 points

Here we have what is undoubtedly the best amp I have ever owned and I've had a few. Rackmount chrome faced version in very good condition. Checked and serviced by Guy Morel at Ashdown two years ago. Don't think I need to explain it much more. Comes with the shallow Gator case, pictured. Collection please from Silverstone, Milton Keynes, Peterborough or Maidenhead.3 points

I have two unopened packets of La Bella 760FS Deep Talkin' Bass strings for sale - looking for £35 each and that includes UK postage. I had some issues with a set of La Bella strings a couple of weeks ago (a dud G string in a set) and they were kind enough to send some replacements. However, in that time I ended up switching to the slightly heavier gauge 760FM and so these two packets of strings are surplus to requirement. These are their standard gauge strings, 45-105. Both packets are brand new and unopened. Thanks, Chris.3 points

I agree with this sentiment, but this also need not be the case. This doesn't account for compressors that have discrete ATTACK control, and further, not just any variable attack range will do. I also prefer to preserve the attack dynamics of my sound, and thus set the attack parameter of my compressor ( currently, Source Audio Atlas ) to be fairly long, 40msec or so. Many compressors do not allow for these longer attack times, and thus wind up squashing the attack when it isn't desirable. When set for long attack time, what happens when the compressor is working is that it compresses the tone AFTER the primary attack has passed through, and it does some very pleasing things to the fullness of the tone. I will say that I learned the hard way with compressors, and it took a lot of trial and error with many different comps to figure out which tools are better (or not) at performing certain tasks. Just as a rubber mallet is used differently than a sledge hammer, though they are both in the "hammer" category, they are used differently for different tasks. Given the vast number of compressors available, from simple to sophisticated, it seems a shame that compression gets a bad rap for lack of a full understanding of what is possible, and misunderstanding. Typical compression - when not used as an obvious effect - will almost always enhance a (bass) tone when applied APPROPRIATELY. Not all compressors are capable of executing what may be appropriate for a given sound. What is appropriate varies greatly on many factors (the player, the tone, the context, etc., and the personal taste of the person employing the comp). As a bassist, one may or may not care to use or technically NEED to use a compressor. But the person at the mixing desk may have many good reasons to do so, for different reasons than the bassist may be aware of.3 points

Same method for fitting the inserts for the M3 pickup screws using locknuts to screw in the insert and a couple of locknuts to provide the twisting force with the spanner: And done: Next and last set of inserts will be for the bridge, but that will need a mockup with some sample strings for alignment - which means waiting a day or two for the headstock clear-coat to harden. But all the time, the body is continuing to harden for its final polish.3 points

Have you had a look at this (Monster Drums...)..? A free Vst plug-in that, I'd say with confidence, rivalises any of the same category. Easy to use, sounds more than 'fine', plenty of variants, and at an unbeatable cost (it's free...). Don't be fooled; it's free, but isn't 'cheap'. It's inexpensive, but sounds better than many costing... well, $250 for a 'Producer's Suite', for instance. Worth a look..? Monster Drums ... Disclaimer : I'm a drummer. I use expensive drum plug-ins, but also Monster Drums, as they're very good.3 points

Basically the previous owner had bought this bass in 2021 and a load of other high end gear, had been working internationally so hardly touched it and then tragically died in his early. 30's, his widow was selling them off, there's not really a way to work out the prices of used LeFay as they aren't that common but I didn't quibble her asking price and it was the very max of my budget... and yeah she's lovely and very high end thing... I've never played a headless before, it sits a bit differently and there is definitely no headstock dive. The bass is simply a work of art.... like this is really high level of craftsmanship, the sculpting of the woods compared to say a Warwick thumb is another level - and it feels very much design led. Everything seems and feels thought through and there for a purpose rather than rushed quickest way to do something. The bridge is very sturdy ... and, maybe this is the cleaness of the tone, or just all headless bridges but tunes so easily. I've got an HX stomp and using the fine tuning mode the other basses take a bit of coaxing to get bang on... this just does it - it's crazy Padauk neck! Really easy to play, the widest point is a few mm below the top of the fretboard so it kinda starts to curve back in on itself. Anyway very easy to play. These things in the faux headstock. I will learn more about them when I need to change strings. one of my half thought-through ideas was to learn to make a neck and then make my own Padouk neck... safe to say if I ever installed frets I would not be even attempting them to look like this... it's crazy the top is gently curved and the back doesn't look bad either ... like crazy woodworking chops... and also the bits to the bridge pins - the mind boggles. But what I like (and I work as a designer) was I was playing it and thinking about how well it seemed thought out... someone else pointed out the crazy woodwork to me, it's not ostentatious craft for crafts sake, and also no coffee table wood on view... I like that. Another one of the back... This looks odd to me - there's nothing on the back of the headstock!! pointy grey/silver paint! woop How does it sound... so not like a fender at all.... it's really really clear and consistent all the way up and down, the low notes on the B string are clean and defined and feel in character. It was initially set up with super low action and straight neck, so I imagine I could do a Charles Berthould impression with tapping and slapping if I practiced for about 10 years and had any talent... tonally if I was trying to describe it it's in the same ballpark as Charles' Herr Schwartz - but played by an idiot. It's quite piano like in the way notes have clarity and it seems to reward playing melody and multiple notes at once... The preamp is really nice, volume, passive tone and the 6 position pickup selector (best described as: rear coil, parallel MM, parallel Jazz, front coil, series MM, series jazz) and then 2 band bass and treble boost only. The bass control is really nice, it adds a boost at about 80Hz but nothing below 30Hz - so none of the subby stuff, the high end boost is a nice high end boost. And then the 6 position control makes it sound like completely different instrument. So yeah, I feel a bit like a 17 year on their birthday old let loose on a Ferrari ... and the temperature of the house it previously lived in down south and my cold room the bass live in up north mean I need to tweak the setup, the bow on the neck isn't quite right at the moment. Like I said a 17 year old in a Ferrari!3 points

....and over time your brain circuitry and chemistry will change which means that you will come to think, feel and behave around gambling exactly the same way as a heroin or crack addict thinks, feels and behaves around drugs. Sadly however, you will run out of money even faster than does even the most addicted drug addict, from where you will find yourself lying to family and friends in order to borrow money (which you will never be able to repay), from where you will start to act with questionable ethics around money that comes your way via your employment, a process that might start with minor theft but which can quickly escalate to major fraud, from where you will start to borrow larger sums from dubious people, and from where you will finally progress to out-and-out criminality that, because unlike the worst drug addiction you can never have enough money to fuel a gambling addiction, will result in either your being arrested and likely imprisoned, or worse still as the people who you owe money to - either the gambling debt or the money you borrowed to gamble in the first place - catch up with you. I'd rather take my chances on drugs frankly2 points

On the One Show tonight there was an item by Watchdog’s Matt Allwright about people getting scammed on the Vinted web site. Not dissimilar to the experiences here. At the end of the item he said if there was anyone else who’d been scammed on any online marketplace to get in touch and report their experiences. I know that he’s a guitarist so he’ll probably be interested in hearing from anyone on here who’s been affected. I would suggest all affected members to get in touch ASAP to create some noise about this story.2 points
