So I don't believe in my ten years plus on this forum, I have not started a topic header! Abit remiss I know! So to quote Jilted John "Here we go, 11, 111, 1V!" So in the last week I have bought from @CookPassBabtridge a wonderful Vigier Passion 1V. 4 string.. I am in, the very, very fortunate position of owning a few Vigiers.. A passion series 11 with the all carbon neck, 1986. A series 111 passion custom with 10/90 graphite wood neck 1992. Plus this recent 2020 series 1V.. What they all have in common, it the amazing craftsmanship of Patrice Vigiers team of luthiers..outstanding.. The playability and action on any Vigier Passion I have played, is as good as I have found in my nearly forty years of playing/trying (lol) of bass.. They are a niche market for sure..That said, I would say those in the know, know how good they are.. So now I have a series 1V. passion.I had in 2014 A series 1V Arpege, but found the Glokenklang 3 band controls for each pick up, to much for myself personally, and I could not get used to the bolt on neck on this model, compared to the early series basses through neck versions.. The Passion 1V has a more simple layout of bass/middle/treble controls, and is very easy to dial in your sound compared to the series 111/111 basses with thier parametric control and cut/boost switch and tone control. The new Vigier pickups quieter than the wonderful single coil Benedetti ones..which are in my humble opinion still AMAZING!!!. Access to all the 24 frets easy on the series 1V a breeze. Action as good as ever on this bass..If you like a super low action, you will find a Vigier hard to beat! Neck profile super slim on all three series of these basses..but the passion 111 the slimmest..possibly more than an Ibanez soundgear! (Is that possible! lol) Obviously no truss rod which to some may take abit of getting used too..All the three series of basses have an almost totally straight neck with the slightest of slight concave shape..no deadspots whatsoever on the phenolic fingerbords.. if you ever get a chance to play a Vigier seize the moment👍😃9 points

Hi there, selling this pristine Aluminati Orion bass. Ultra playable, super low action. Amazing clean tone, killer saturated tone. This thing is much more versatile than it appears, those PJ Lollar pickups can let you play in almost any kind of music. No neck dive and pretty decent 4,7 kgs. Specs : - Optional P/J Lollar configuration. - Hipshot tuners and bridge - Andromeda Hollowcore neck - 3D milled Lucite body - Bourne pots - Gator case Right now tuned BEAD but I have a replacement nut tuned regular EADG (can be replaced very easily by yourself, uses screws). Retail would be 3350£ (without VAT) with the optional P/J pickup configuration. Shipped with extra care. Selling because I have bills to pay, otherwise it would have been a keeper.7 points

Sorry guys, it was meant to be £2200 A BIG ONE DAY REDUCTION TO £2000 delivered to UK addresses Here we have a lovely Gibson Ripper from 74/75 with original case, inside is fine but the exterior is a bit battered but keeps the bass safe The bass is in extremely great condition for its age and I would say 8.5/10 its that good The bottom section of the scratchplate is a little bit more duller that the rest, some very minor crazing to the finish but you have to look very hard to see, some light swirls here and there but they too are minor Come with the original bridge cover Some people are not too fussy on the 3 point bridge system but on this bass its not a problem as I have managed to get the action down to 2mm at the 12th fret with no buzz all the controls work as they should, 4 position pickup controls 1 in phase — series 2 bridge only — single 3 in phase — parallel 4 out of phase — series Nut width is 41mm and a very comfortable neck to use weight is 4.7 kg's but somehow its does not feel overly heavy Frets in great condition Great condition for a 47 year old Gibson which has been well looked after by the previous owner and iI would say has not seen a lot of action over the years Forgot to put the E string through the body for the eagle eyed amongst you Any question please fire away and thanks for looking..7 points

We did a pub gig in Crawley last night. Packed, two and half hour set so I am feeling all of my 60 years today. Had my Status back for this from the mothership in Colchester fixed and set up beautifully by Rob - have enjoyed playing my Flea Jazz while it’s been away but it’s not my Status! We did Don’t You forget About Me for the first time - went down a storm but anyone else have a drummer who needs the bass player to count him in on some songs otherwise he rattles off so quickly I just can’t get the gallopy bit in the breakdown.4 points

801 Live is Phil Manzanera and Brian Eno with Lloyd Watson, Francis Monkman, Bill MacCormick, Simon Phillips. Well worth a listen if you haven't heard it4 points

May I add the usual comment... Have you tried to play a right-handed bass at all..? Being left-handed does not automatically oblige one to use a 'lefty' instrument. Many Lefties get on perfectly well playing 'righty' instruments (guitar, bass, accordion, piano...). Half of our family are 'lefty' (Our father was a 'hard' lefty...); I have a lefty brother that took to my righty guitars, and was much better than I was, much faster. It's not the case for everyone, I know, but if you're starting from zero, it's worth at least trying a righty bass first. Just my tuppence-worth.4 points

Hamburg was awesome. It was sold out, but they're there to see Crass. We went down really well, people were singing along from 3 songs in so we must be doing something right! 4 hours sleep last night so I was hoping to get some sleep in the van. Unfortunately our bassist has some godawful dad rock playlist blasting out the stereo. We just had Come On Eileen 🙃4 points

Whilst cleaning my teeth this morning with an electric toothbrush I found I could do a passable facsimilie of 'Livin On A Prayer'. I may have dribbled toothpasty spit down my front but consider it a small price to pay. That is all.4 points

Squier Contemporary Active Jazz Bass HH V, Roasted Maple Fingerboard, Black Pickguard, Gunmetal Metallic. Great 5 string, lots of modern attributes, surprisingly great bass. I am moving to short scale so it is up for sale. BAsically pretty new except for a minor bend in the one machine head. The Squier Contemporary Active Jazz Bass HH V brings modern features and bold aesthetics to an iconic Fender platform to satisfy today’s most discerning and daring players. At the heart of this bass is a pair of Squier SQR ceramic humbucking pickups powered by a Fender-designed active 9-volt preamp, offering intuitive controls for volume, pickup blend, traditional tone and stacked boost controls for bass and treble. The roasted maple neck was chosen for its optimal tone and stability, and a sculpted heel design allows for improved access to the upper frets. High-performance components round out the feature list and include a modern bridge with added mass for improved body resonance, and a set of open-gear tuning machines for smooth tuning action. Eye-catching styling cues include stealthy black hardware and a sleek painted headstock with chrome logos for a premium look.3 points

We've got a saying in the States about sphincters and opinions, I've got to assume you have a similar one on your side of the pond. That's especially true of Talk Bass. I had to leave there ten years ago lest I lose what was left of my sanity completely. 😳3 points

For sale my Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 20th Anniversary, made in the USA in the year 1996. The bass is the best Stingray i have had (also a Pre EB '78) but it is catching dust... It is a very unique model, more so because of the beatiful rosewood fretboad with flamed maple neck. Body has a nice quilted maple top. It comes with original hardcase. There are some marks on the body, the neck is clean. Normal signs of use for a bass already this old;) Please see the pictures. All is working, electronics are: bass, mid and treble (with volume of course). Price: €1650including shipping within EU (not UK, i am sorry). Thanks for looking. Don't hesitate to ask.2 points

Spotted online on the Bax website, a 'B' stock Precision for £490. I expected scratches in addition to the damaged packaging that was listed on the site but I have yet to spot any. My first Precision style guitar and so far (about 90 minutes in) happy with sound, feel, neck and weight.2 points

Done that one, the cutting (bandsaw) and smoothing is easy enough. It did not look as good as I had hoped but that is a matter of personal taste. Ideally you will get machine heads with a small back footprint e.g. Hipshots. The Space at the back is a bit tight, I only just got Schaller BMs to fit.2 points

Sometimes when at a gig or jam night we can run out of ideas of riffs to use in our bass lines while jamming a 12-bar Blues. So I've put a YouTube lesson together to give you five Blues bass riffs that are very easy to play and plug into the 12-bar progression. In the lesson I also talk about the main difference between the shuffle and straight feel and what this means for us bass players when we are playing Blues. It's important to get this right because you're gonna clash with the drummer if you play the opposite feel to him or her. In the lesson you'll also get plenty of practice playing through the 12-Bar Blues sequence which you should know back to front if you want to play at a Blues jam night. The five bass riffs are on a free PDF with standard notation and Tab. You’ll find the link to that under the video. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/NJ62_CXc1XM2 points

In true Basschat style, please allow me to veer wildly off topic instantly. If you face months of being unable to use your left hand, why not buy a cheap-ish keyboard and learn to play. As a bassist, the one thing you want is a keyboard player who keeps his left hand in his pocket ... don't dream it, be it!2 points

I was being nice! (ish) But I fail to understand all the love they get. Though to be fair, there's thousands of other bands that loads of folks like that are immho somewhere behind the line going from trite to sh1te! That's the beauty of taste...2 points

sounds like it could be a slightly proud 4th fret - fret a note at the third fret and see how much of a gap there is at the 4th fret, I"ll bet it's not enough.2 points

Agree, very polished performance and tremendous sound (esp for the O2). I enjoyed the early/ mid 1970s output (esp Do the Strand, Re-make/ Re-model, Virginia Plain, Every home a heartache being the highlight for me) but I'm afraid the Avalon/Jealous Guy/Dance away etc 'soft rock' leaves me cold2 points

I always think a preamp DI pedal is a good investment, better than a spare amp.2 points

I’ve decided to change my wireless purely because i really liked the Boss so now my old Smoothhound wireless is up for grabs, i have used it for the last 4-5 years and never had an issue with it, it was on my pedalboard and as the original power source cable frayed, i got an inverter cable for it and plugged into my pedalboard PSU, so the inverter cable will come with it, the only other issue i had with it was the small bit of metal that breaks on the transmitter, where the latch, from what i saw online that’s pretty normal and SmoothHound will replace it for an extra 20 quid, but i just attached 2 zipties to it, as pictured, and it’s worked fine tbh, i will also include the neutrik female to female extender so you can use it as a bodypack on your strap, as well as a pretty cool multitool belt pouch, which i used on my strap, as well as a cable with direct female to male so you don’t necessarily use the Neutrik f2f converter. The receiver still has some sticky glue from the velcro patch, it can be removed with some alcohol or it just adds extra sticky adherence should you add another sticky Velcro for your pedalboard. Works with 2x 3A batteries, and will include a set of rechargeable ones, as the my new one only uses 2A’s. Anyway, £60 not negotiable, will post at buyers expense, but prefer local collection. Any other questions let me know, happy to answer if i can2 points

A close friend of mine is a sound engineer and he said when he went through Uni his teachers drilled into him that his ears needed to be protected from day one so even as a student he had custom in-ears made, it’s rare I see him not wearing some sort of ear protection!! I will certainly be wearing some form of ear protection as soon as I get a bigger amp than the little practice one I have now.2 points

Sean Hurley rubs his flats down with Vaseline to dull the tone. No reason to think it wouldn’t work on rounds. If not try some currywurst that’ll be sure to take the zing off2 points

Offers considered. 🙂 No trades, I'm afraid. I'm selling my absolutely beautiful Spector NS Pulse II 5-string, in Ultra Violet Matte finish. Purchased from Andertons earlier this year. The condition of the bass is excellent, and has only seen light use at home. Absolutely no blemishes or issues of any kind. Non smoking home, of course. It's a really excellent sounding bass, and plays beautifully. The recent basstheworld review did it justice. It has many of the characteristic Spector qualities: Comfortable ergonomics, easy neck, quality hardware, rich tones. I think the finish is gorgeous, purple stain on quilted maple top. I'm sad to have to sell it, but it was only ever intended as a stop-gap while my Bongo was out of action. I'm open to offers, but no trades. Happy to ship the bass, in the original packaging. Specs: 5-string. 35" scale. Bolt-on Ash body with maple top (this, possibly veneer). Roasted maple neck, matte. Ebony fingerboard. Spector Tone Pump Jr. EMG pickups.2 points
