FOR SALE - Tim Commorford Short Scale Passive Stingray (limited edition - only 50 produced) - £2,500 + shipping I bought this a year ago, as soon as they were released. I absolutely LOVE IT but I don't play bass much anymore and it feels like a waste to have such a spectacular bass sat there as an expensive ornament. I paid almost £3,000GBP ($3,000USD plus shipping & taxes). Looking for the buyer to pay £2,500 plus shipping. It's in perfect condition, only used a handful of times. I'm quite happy to keep it if no interest, I just thought I'd put it out there in case anyone is looking for one as they're difficult to get hold of. I'm in Teesside, UK if anyone local wants it.11 points

Well that was an unpleasant experience for any gig. Playing with the Glam Rock band tonight at a St Andrews caravan park end of season gig. Friend of the band has a caravan there and asked if we would do it. Was a 2hr drive which was a nice run in the afternoon but i was pretty tired on the drive home. Lots of people bopping around on seats and lots of clapping and cheering after every song from the word go but no dancers. 2nd set managed to get to 4th or 5th song and was asked to stop as a woman had taken severely unwell. Lucky enough our singer is a nurse of 35 yrs and jumped straight into nursing head. Turns out the woman had taken a heart attack. She had a known condition but forgot to take her meds today. Our singer said the woman was responding and hopefully will recover ok. Ambulance was called and arrived within approx 10 minutes which was pretty impressive and they took over and moved her into the ambulance. By the time this had all happened we only had 35 mins left before closing time. Manager suggested we just leave it as the atmosphere had taken a turn for the worse and it wouldn't be right to carry on. We were agreed. We still got paid in full and were asked if we could do a return visit next year when the season opens up again. Dave9 points

Hi. I've decided that keeping this beauty in its case unplayed isn't appropriate. I'm not playing now so it's time to sell. The bass is virtually unmarked, very close to original shop condition. No marks or dings and no fret wear. 100% original down to the last screw. Neck totally straight. It comes supplied in the original case and includes all swing tags, original strings and 70's spare set, instruction manual and inspection tag. Is there another all original 70's sunburst Jazz as stunning as this anywhere else? Weight 4.1kg on digital scales No trades thanks. Happy to personally deliver to most areas in the Uk by arrangement. Shipping to other countries by arrangement My Original Post in May Just thought I should share my great fortune/ honour in becoming the only the second custodian of an unmarked 73 / transition jazz bass. Before I share the story, I know that the bass has the black scratch normally found from 74, but I've seen the original receipt from Carlsbro Sound in Mansfield clearly marked Sept 1973. So the bass is 100% original down to the original case, original paperwork, inspection tag, owners manual and spare set of flatwounds ! Having saved his hard earned cash for years, the original owner, John B sadly passed away suddenly and his wife couldn't bring herself to part with the her husband's pride and joy, which has been sat under the bed until now. His wife decided to pass the bass on to someone else and I was recently invited to the family home to hear the story for myself. I have several photos of the John playing the bass in his band. I can't share them on here as they aren't mine to share but I can assure you the bass is visible clear as day, including John's initials on the lower horn, as was the trend in the 70's apparently and which are still on the bass now . . . . I promised I wouldn't remove them. Of course when I 1st saw the bass, apart from being floored by the stunning condition, I assumed JB stood for Jazz Bass! So an incredible, virtually show room condition beautiful jazz bass, preserved in time.7 points

Well, last night and the last few weeks combined. I've just done 7 dates with the Mighty Wah - something of a thrill as Pete Wylie has long been one of my favourite songwriters. The mini tour was not without its challenges (even as the baby of the band, 6am arrivals back at home are too much for me now) but it was a fantastic experience and it looks like we're already plotting some futher gigs. Last night was a my own band Dead Tenant playing to an unexpectedly large crowd in the fab little theatre just down the road from where we all live. We were a tiny bit rusty but I'm listening back to the recording as I type and it's all sounding much better than it felt in the moment. Apologies for multiple photos but you don't get to play with your heroes every day 🙂 B&W ones are from last night.7 points

I had heard some good things about these basses, on account of the Custom Shop pickups, light(er)weight tuners and overall finish, so I couldn’t resist the chance to grab this one owner Precision. I have always been a sucker for White Fenders and especially so when combined with a glossy maple board! The bass is beautifully finished and plays and sounds superb. I was surprised at the thickness/depth of the neck, it has far more meat on it than I was expecting, but that is probably because I have spent a few months playing the old style C necks which are wide but shallow. It has a set of old Rotos at the moment but I will most likely swap them for some La Bella flats. I have not used flats on a through body for a long time, any advice as to what I should look out for would be greatly appreciated. I wouldn’t expect to remove them to put on another bass in the future!6 points

Yesterday with Train To Skaville at the legendary Dublin Castle in Camden, a MadChat charity double-header with Birmingham's "Reggaelators" (who were seriously good). Perhaps unsurprisingly the crowd were amazing, up and dancing and singing from the word go. Had a brilliant time and raised a sh*tload of cash for Macmillan. Egging the crowd on in "Lip Up Fatty". Here I am giving my all to the break in the Specials' "Nite Klub" I even managed to get a sound I didn't hate out of the house bass rig... a first for me with an Ashdown And I had two compliments on my choice of shoes6 points

NBD: BB425x Can I join your club? I picked up this BB425X about a month ago: it hadn’t been played for 5 years and needed a good set-up, a new tuner and volume pot and I swapped the switch for a centre-detented pot so I can blend the pickups. Oh, and put big black knobs on it! Sounds great with DR Hi-Beams strings fitted. I have already gigged with it and am very happy with how it sat in the mix and played. I have no idea how old it is though: serial number begins with HH - anyone here able to fill me in?6 points

It was a good gig. The 2 1\2 sets had a nice flow. I thought we sounded pretty good. Nice crowd and a few fans showed up. The Motor is always a nice gig. Blue6 points

For sale is a 2021 Fender American Original 50's P Bass in 2-tone sunburst with gold pickguard. It comes with a G&G tweed case, all the candy and ashtrays that I had fitted. It's strung with Fender Flats but also comes with the roundwounds that it was originally supplied with. It even comes with the original shipping box. It's in immaculate condition apart from a tiny nick on the pickguard near the truss rod (pictured). I've owned it from new and it was bought from GAK. It plays and sounds as beautifully as you'd expect but sadly I have three other P Basses and need to recover some money unfortunately. It weighs 8lbs 4oz so if very nice and light. I'm looking for £1,400 posted but am travelling to Southampton on Wednesday night for two days so could take to with me for a hand over. No trades please.5 points

I believe this series is what became the American ultra so not the cheaper Mexican made deluxe ones. The bass has some slight wear from lots of use but nothing major and overall in very good shape. All the blemishes we could find are clearly shown in the photos. If you are local feel free to come for a coffee and try it out or if you have any questions drop me a message. selling this for a friend and he’s not looking for any trades (although he’s selling to fund a Dingwall so may be tempted by one)4 points

Earlier today I took delivery of this beauty! It's the second P bass I've owned. The first I never got along with and sold, but from a few hours playing this afternoon I'm really enjoying this. I took a risk ordering online without trying in a shop but I was keen to give P basses another shot. It's a comfortable weight (can't tell you exactly how much), balances well on the knee and strap, and the neck dimensions feel nice in the hand. The neck finish is glossy, which is quite different of course to the satin finish I've been playing, but feels nice to get around and not sticky at all. I've only played unplugged and through headphones so far, so a rehearsal next week will be the real test. So far so good though, it sounds good and the tone knob offers a decent range. It came pretty much set up and ready straight out of the box which was nice. Just a minor truss rod tweak needed, but otherwise the intonation is spot on and the saddle heights work for me. Pictures of course! There's some rather nice grain on the fretboard, and I'm a big fan of the black and gold with blocks look. Edd4 points

I am by nature ill disciplined and more drawn to novelty than to repetition. So until I began taking lessons with a superb teacher my practice consisted of noodling or learning a song for a gig. Now, because I know that every two weeks I will need to show the fruits of my labours, and because the work is structured in such a way that it needs to be done daily, I work far more strictly. Most importantly I keep a diary so at a glance I can see what I've been doing and make sure nothing gets missed.4 points

Day 8 - Cardiff Tramshed. The first of the run using the keys player instead of the drummer. The main take-away being that I really, really miss the drummer! Some interesting happenings with the FOH sound, resulting in the desk apparently being carted out at some point. The on-stage mix went awry at some point as well, which resulted in me asking, for the first time ever, for some more guitar in the stage wedge. Hey ho, we'd been really lucky up to that point, so put it aside and head to Bournemouth.4 points

Tonight sees the end of our annual residency at Tulley’s Shocktoberfest. 25 shows in 35 days, 3 sets per night so something like 56 hours total playing time. Despite the tiredness I have lost half a stone and feel much fitter so it’s all good stuff. It’s been a pleasure and honour to share the stage with my core band friends from The Audacity plus the rotating cast of very talented backing vocalists and brass players we’ve had joining us each night. Will miss the gigs and the backstage giggles a lot but looking forward to getting my evenings back for a while.4 points

The Bass Gallery have a 1961 Jazz Bass for sale from the octogenarian (ahem) jazz bass player Jim Richardson. While I am sure he has a wonderful reputation and back catalogue, is that reason enough to pay £9k for a beat-up, over-sprayed (seemingly in bitumen), modded (non-original electronics and fretboard) bass that looks like its been in a fire? Maybe I am being unkind but the pricing seems WAY off to me. https://thebassgallery.com/products/fender-jazz-bass-1961-ex-jim-richardson3 points

For Sale - My Vigier Passion IV Bass in Blackburst finish. Purchased at Bass Direct in 2019, this beauty is absolutely immaculate and the hard case also looks like new. I always really look after my gear and this bass looks, sounds and plays amazingly. Reason for sale? I've seen my eye on another altogether different bass and I don't have the luxury of keeping the Vigier if I get it, so this one has to unfortunately go! Not overly happy about that but someone is going to get a killer of a bass! If you have any questions, please ask.3 points

As I have joined a new , to me, classic rock/metal covers band and have to compete with Animal on the drums and 2 Leary 100w Marshall's I thought I would trot this set up out. Total overkill but my god it sounds good. Sadly I might have to retire the DBS heads as parts are almost impossible to find these days but I'll go down fighting..apologies for being in the photo....check out the fantastic Tee shirt my drummer made...(my name's Carl obvs) on the back it says "probably the best bass player in the band" not actually sure that's true...3 points

1983 Yamaki made Daion Mark X B. Very rare version and indeed there are no other recorded cases of this version. Pre amp was added by the original owner shortly after purchase in 1984 and is believed to be a Kent Armstrong. It's seen service as a gigging bass over the last 40 years and as such has some dings and marks. Plays extremely well and has a comfortable asymmetric neck. Would much prefer people try it out before buying but if you need it posting let me know. Edit: comes with original hard case!2 points

With my decision to move away from bass and get back to guitar, I got myself one of these. I adore the look of a Gretsch but don’t get on with the larger bodies, so this was my compromise. Historic Series G31402 points

I bought this from BassBros a couple of months ago and upgraded the white pickguard to a black one for added coolness. The lightest Jazz I have ever played at 8 pounds, yes you read that correctly. Unfortunately I am not getting on with the neck profile (I previously had a super-thin necked Geddy Jazz and this is quite deep front to back, almost like a chunky P bass neck but with narrower nut width). It hasn't left the house since I got it and is in super 9.5/10 condition (a few tiny, barely visible scratches around the drilled bridge cover holes). Comes with Fender case, covers, white guard etc. Collect from SW13 London or post at cost within UK. NO TRADES unless a 2010s Spector Ian Hill P/J in black (the one with the slimmed down neck profile). Last pic was taken today, to show black guard, the rest were sent to me by Will from BassBros (it didn't actually go on their website as I heard about it before Will had put together the advert).2 points

Maybe Mr. Richardson could do with the money right now. I hope he gets what he needs for it. Not my bag though. @Clarky prices aside, and as a bass to play, I'd rather have that 70s RI J that you've got up on here mate 😗👌2 points

EDIT: I will take £420 for this plus £10 shipping. I’ve got Stomp XL gas so this has to go. I made a FS thread a few years ago for this but never pushed it as my heart wasn’t really in it. But here we go! Pretty good condition for how old it must be. A few paint chips missing. Functioning perfectly. It came to me with a power supply which I’m pretty sure is not original, but it works so I’ll include in the sale. I never really used the cable as I had it on a board with a Voodoo Labs power brick. Includes a v tatty box and instruction sheet. Collection/meet up preferred, or add £10 for Royal Mail special delivery (includes insurance). I’m pretty sure a Stomp XL is the only trade I’ll consider at this point.2 points

To be honest I don't think this is Thomann's fault. If DHL's website could actually distinguish between places that will take this certain type of parcel and places that won't then I wouldn't have wasted so much time and stress. Thomann makes it very easy to send something back... In theory. It's DHL that is failing here.2 points

That's why I play as much as possible even if it isn't "practicing" in the traditional sense. I also agree about being able to kick straight in when playing - especially at a gig. I have been in bands previously where the other musicians want to play something "easy" as the first song so they can "warm up". Often this isn't a particularly riveting song from an audience PoV. IMO you should kick off with your second best song (the best one is saved for the set closer) no matter how hard it might be to play. Practice so that you can go straight into this song from cold, and if you really need to "warm up" first do it back stage or in a quiet corner of the venue. One of my band's opening song features a really complex bass line as the main riff, but I have made sure that I can always play from cold no matter what. The set is all the better for being to open with this song.2 points

1973/4 second version US made Fender Telecaster Bass. The version with the single humbucker, bullet trussrod and three bolt micro-tilt neck. This bass is definitely not a case Queen! It’s been modified and refinished in black by the previous owner. The neck, tuners, body, neck plate, strap buttons are all original. The slab body has been routed for an extra P bass pickup. The Mudbucker is a Fender reissue as the originals are very hard to source. The Seymour Duncan quarter pounder sounds really punchy and is hot enough to match the big humbucker and the bass sustains forever. The scratchplate is none original and none standard it has had a repair as it is quite brittle plastic and looks quite old. I had it wired to the Seymour Duncan Pickup only whilst I sourced a replacement Humbucker and will include a black scratchplate as pictured so you can choose if you want to use it without the humbucker. You can see where the original through body stringing holes would have been on the rear of the bass however it has been filled and fitted with a 70’s Fender BBOT bridge with one odd saddle fitted by myself as the bridge supplied was in pieces and a saddle missing. The original rout for the side jack cup has also been filled before the refinish. It could be possible to convert back to the original if wanted I would think. As I wanted a project I took a risk and bought this as a partly rebuilt Tele bass body and neck with some parts - the owner had inherited it and knew that it was good quality instrument but in a bad state. The body had already been refinished and the neck definitely needed a refret which I got my luthier to do (not cheap) having found that the neck was straight and the bullet trussrod worked perfectly. The original frets were literally hanging out and it looked like a butcher had been at the board when I bought it. It weighs a very reasonable 4.7kgs for a big slab of wood (ash?) and plays and sounds great. Without the humbucker it weighs 4.3kgs! I have two Tele basses and as I need to release some funds one has to go. It’s a rare bass and I’m sure the mods could be reversed if required The humbucker has a lot more variation than you would expect and you can get some very beefy and varied sounds. As expected the SD has that great P bass grunt we all know and love. Two pots and the capacitor appear to be original or at least contemporary. I added a volume pot and replaced some of the wiring. The jack socket is also an old replacement and works okay but will benefit from an upgrade at some point (I didn’t have any spares). No trades unless you have a Musicman Sterling bass with a maple board to p ex. Nothing else sorry. UK only. No case I’m afraid. Pickup preferred but could look into posting at buyer’s cost. Any questions please ask. Price reflects the modifications and none original parts. I’ve added pictures supplied by the original seller showing the body routs, neck pocket and neck. You can also see where the original string ferrules were on the back of the body so drilling them out should be a pretty straightforward job.2 points

That's very nice... However I never look at it as a move away or towards one instrument or another. I've played guitar, bass and synths in various bands at various times. In fact every time I ended up playing guitar or synth in a band it's because I originally joined or auditioned as a bass player. In the end it's all music.2 points

I have for sale my 1972 fender precision in 3 tone sunburst The bass when I got it was resprayed in red and the pickups, scratchplate were changed out The tone pot was replaced at some point but the the rest of the loom looks all original with period stamped vol pot and works quite well Neck is date stamped April 72 Nut width is 40mm Weight 4.1 Kgs I had the body striped back to natural and resprayed back to 3 tone burst The bass was in good shape when i got it with no serious dents andf it in great sahope now its been sprayed Neck has a few minor dings to the back in some places but as I say they are minor tuners are pit free I managed to acquire a set of 1974 Precision pickups from the US along with a period repro scratchplate which has been yellowed on the edges to give it a 70's antique look and looks the part I had the tug bar and ahve misplaced it somewhere but i will try and find it before the week is out Currently strung with flats, I will also source a decent case for it Nice comfortable neck to play with the slim nut, frest are in pretty good condition with some wear at the top frets Any question please fire away and price is firm as that is what it owes me, the parts were not cheap as most of you will know2 points

P-Basses. In my younger days, I'd always shunned them totally for being so boring (as I saw it) and common, preferring flashier basses with more bells and whistles. I then bought a Classic Series 50's and realised what all the endless clichés are about, with regards to 'sitting in the mix perfectly' and 'sounding great with no tweaking required'. They're ubiquitous for a reason and it took me near 20 years to show them some respect.2 points
