My 80s Goth duo played a blinding support to a local Siouxsie & the Banshees tribute, at my local village hall. A very respectable turnout and we played well. Caught up with at least two people I haven't seen in over three decades. I am on bass for most of it but play some mandolin and was delighted that my student joined us in bass and totally smashed it! Final words from our local review, which said "Eighties new wave electronica is their game, angled toward the gothic alternative, which they executed with finesse and emotion. From a few originals Nick explained they were taking into the studio, to expected covers of Bauhaus and Joy Divison, it was the sort of serious music venue appreciation society type stuff, rather than universal village hall. Though what was particularly adriot in their set was a rendition of Heartbreak Hotel in their house style."11 points

Katie Fitzgerald's in Stourbridge last night. It's a small venue, and I'm bringing acoustic drums, so sound is always going to be tough. I tried my best to control volume but got most of the blame for the terrible on stage sound Personally I'd blame the fact that the gain was too high on every channel (could clearly hear horrible clipping), the vocal monitors were tiny 10" 100W Behringer jobbies, and the engineer wasn't sure which monitor was on which send Anyway, as usual, we went down well, loads of compliments after, sold a load of merch etc. so it really don't matter how it sounds on stage, as long as we keep our cool and do our best10 points

For Sale - My Vigier Passion IV Bass in Blackburst finish. Purchased at Bass Direct in 2019, this beauty is absolutely immaculate and the hard case also looks like new. I always really look after my gear and this bass looks, sounds and plays amazingly. Reason for sale? I've seen my eye on another altogether different bass and I don't have the luxury of keeping the Vigier if I get it, so this one has to unfortunately go! Not overly happy about that but someone is going to get a killer of a bass! If you have any questions, please ask.9 points

Yesterday with Train To Skaville at the legendary Dublin Castle in Camden, a MadChat charity double-header with Birmingham's "Reggaelators" (who were seriously good). Perhaps unsurprisingly the crowd were amazing, up and dancing and singing from the word go. Had a brilliant time and raised a sh*tload of cash for Macmillan. Egging the crowd on in "Lip Up Fatty". Here I am giving my all to the break in the Specials' "Nite Klub" I even managed to get a sound I didn't hate out of the house bass rig... a first for me with an Ashdown And I had two compliments on my choice of shoes9 points

Superb condition throughout having had little use. Massively loud! I had heard some good things about these basses, on account of the Custom Shop pickups, light(er)weight tuners and overall finish, so I couldn’t resist the chance to grab this one owner Precision. I have always been a sucker for White Fenders and especially so when combined with a glossy maple board! The bass is beautifully finished and plays and sounds superb. I was surprised at the thickness/depth of the neck, it has far more meat on it than I was expecting, but that is probably because I have spent a few months playing the old style C necks which are wide but shallow. It has a set of old Rotos at the moment but I will most likely swap them for some La Bella flats. I have not used flats on a through body for a long time, any advice as to what I should look out for would be greatly appreciated. I wouldn’t expect to remove them to put on another bass in the future!5 points

A quick backstory behind this project . I use a Markbass 801 for rehersals with small acoustic folk band . I love it for its sound and form factor , a lot easier than schlepping a head , cab , cables etc . For outside performances that need more volume , I have been using a homemade 112 cab and TC electronics BQ250 . I though I would combine both ideas and made myself a bigger , louder combo , like the Markbass on steroids . The Celestion BN12 - 300S 4 ohm speaker was robbed from the cabinet , and a new cabinet made . 16in cube made from 9mm ply that was laying around , laminated in parts for strength but still remarkably lightweight . Rear ported and the TC BQ250 built in . Fitted with a DI XLR socket with a ground lift wired in . The cab was designed to be resonant at 41Hz and plugged it in this afternoon and was blown away by the volume and tone . 17.2kg - 38lb . Heavier than I thought but still lighter than the original cab that was all timber .5 points

Hi. I've decided that keeping this beauty in its case unplayed isn't appropriate. I'm not playing now so it's time to sell. The bass is virtually unmarked, very close to original shop condition. No marks or dings and no fret wear. 100% original down to the last screw. Neck totally straight. It comes supplied in the original case and includes all swing tags, original strings and 70's spare set, instruction manual and inspection tag. Is there another all original 70's sunburst Jazz as stunning as this anywhere else? Weight 4.1kg on digital scales No trades thanks. Happy to personally deliver to most areas in the Uk by arrangement. Shipping to other countries by arrangement My Original Post in May Just thought I should share my great fortune/ honour in becoming the only the second custodian of an unmarked 73 / transition jazz bass. Before I share the story, I know that the bass has the black scratch normally found from 74, but I've seen the original receipt from Carlsbro Sound in Mansfield clearly marked Sept 1973. So the bass is 100% original down to the original case, original paperwork, inspection tag, owners manual and spare set of flatwounds ! Having saved his hard earned cash for years, the original owner, John B sadly passed away suddenly and his wife couldn't bring herself to part with the her husband's pride and joy, which has been sat under the bed until now. His wife decided to pass the bass on to someone else and I was recently invited to the family home to hear the story for myself. I have several photos of the John playing the bass in his band. I can't share them on here as they aren't mine to share but I can assure you the bass is visible clear as day, including John's initials on the lower horn, as was the trend in the 70's apparently and which are still on the bass now . . . . I promised I wouldn't remove them. Of course when I 1st saw the bass, apart from being floored by the stunning condition, I assumed JB stood for Jazz Bass! So an incredible, virtually show room condition beautiful jazz bass, preserved in time.4 points

Realised i never updated this post. Well as it is finalised as of today Bass was returned to the reseller and i have been refunded even 4.5 months after buying it Long donkey story short - the neck on the bass was buggered and wouldn't straighten out, not to mention tooling marks all over it - glue showing on some frets, a P**S poor job of fret leveling and the nut needed work too. Obviously reluctant to take the bass back we ended up speaking the the distributor who sent out a new neck - only to find the truss rod didn't work on that one too. Clearly in disbelief they actually went and check their brand new stock only to find (to their shock) the truss rods on the new stock basses didn't work either - so needless to say refund was offered right away, very apologetic and they're sending a whole bunch of Indonesian basses back to the manufacturer this week.. Clearly something has gone very wrong in the factory and i just happened to highlight it to them - so silver lining i guess - at least some questionable basses are now off the shelf and not going to end up in some poor sods lap somewhere. Think i'm gonna go with what i was going to get in the 1st place and find me a nice Yamaha BB 435 or nice used BB 1025 - i just really liked the look and possibilities of this Sterling Ray35 HH - ah well lemon has gone back Onwards and upwards4 points

Gig at a club just outside Huddersfield on Saturday night. It was coupled with a bonfire night and the number of young kids was on the frightening side (the number of kids doing 'Peter Kay' knee slide dance was above the torment threashold). So the auspices were not great, thankfully many of the young uns disappeared after the first spot and normal service was resumed and a great night was had by all (especially the seriously big, semi pi55ed unit that teetered on the verge of falling into our lighting rig).4 points

Fender Deluxe Precision Bass Special 2016 active/passive with Jazz neck and rare Rosewood fingerboard. I have ‘accidentally’ just bought two Precisions so sadly I need to let this and another go........ This is in lovely condition and has just been set up with a new set of Fender original 7150 vintage nickel strings, the fingerboard treated with lemon oil and two new batteries for the active electronics. The Sea Foam Green metallic is a great colour. It does have a few small marks on the body but none of any seriousness. The satin finished Jazz neck is no longer offered on these basses (switched to a Precision width) and the current models have a pale Pau Ferro fingerboard not the beautiful dark slab Rosewood featured on this one. The 3 band eq provides a wide range of tones and it can be played in either passive or active modes at the flick of a mini switch. Please feel free to ask any questions. Shipping is available to England, Wales and most of Scotland at buyer’s cost and risk. Collection in person is most welcomed.3 points

Spector fans, Great offer from PMT B'ham - new Spector Euro 4 LT Rudy Sarzo for £1,503.88 (reduced from £2,575!). Very tempting but I had a Euro 4LT with the FF pickups before (in black) and the neck is just too chunky for my taste. Killer sounds and looks though! Well that was an unpleasant experience for any gig. Playing with the Glam Rock band tonight at a St Andrews caravan park end of season gig. Friend of the band has a caravan there and asked if we would do it. Was a 2hr drive which was a nice run in the afternoon but i was pretty tired on the drive home. Lots of people bopping around on seats and lots of clapping and cheering after every song from the word go but no dancers. 2nd set managed to get to 4th or 5th song and was asked to stop as a woman had taken severely unwell. Lucky enough our singer is a nurse of 35 yrs and jumped straight into nursing head. Turns out the woman had taken a heart attack. She had a known condition but forgot to take her meds today. Our singer said the woman was responding and hopefully will recover ok. Ambulance was called and arrived within approx 10 minutes which was pretty impressive and they took over and moved her into the ambulance. By the time this had all happened we only had 35 mins left before closing time. Manager suggested we just leave it as the atmosphere had taken a turn for the worse and it wouldn't be right to carry on. We were agreed. We still got paid in full and were asked if we could do a return visit next year when the season opens up again. Dave3 points

Well, last night and the last few weeks combined. I've just done 7 dates with the Mighty Wah - something of a thrill as Pete Wylie has long been one of my favourite songwriters. The mini tour was not without its challenges (even as the baby of the band, 6am arrivals back at home are too much for me now) but it was a fantastic experience and it looks like we're already plotting some futher gigs. Last night was a my own band Dead Tenant playing to an unexpectedly large crowd in the fab little theatre just down the road from where we all live. We were a tiny bit rusty but I'm listening back to the recording as I type and it's all sounding much better than it felt in the moment. Apologies for multiple photos but you don't get to play with your heroes every day 🙂 B&W ones are from last night.3 points

Day 8 - Cardiff Tramshed. The first of the run using the keys player instead of the drummer. The main take-away being that I really, really miss the drummer! Some interesting happenings with the FOH sound, resulting in the desk apparently being carted out at some point. The on-stage mix went awry at some point as well, which resulted in me asking, for the first time ever, for some more guitar in the stage wedge. Hey ho, we'd been really lucky up to that point, so put it aside and head to Bournemouth.3 points

Really cool gig at Lutteral Hall in West Bridgeford, Nottingham, with the Elton John tribute. Place was sold out as far as I could see, and people were up dancing from pretty early on, which is always a good sign. Given me a warm glow for the weekend.3 points

The Fender American Original '60s Jazz Bass captures the warm tone and peerless looks of an icon by combining features like a pair of Pure Vintage ‘64 Single-Coil Jazz Bass pickups, '60s "C" shape maple neck with 9.5" radius, and a slick sonic blue body with nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Vintage-inspired appointments like nickel/chrome and Pure Vintage Reverse Open-gear tuning machines match beautifully with modern amenities like Narrow-Tall frets for a new classic that lives up to the original. Alder body with lacquer finish Two Pure Vintage ‘64 single-coil Jazz Bass pickups Slim “’60s C”-shaped neck profile; 9.5”-radius round-lam rosewood fingerboard Vintage-style hardware; four-saddle bridge Includes vintage-style hardshell case This guitar has been used on only a handful of gigs and recording sessions. It has always remained in its case when not in use. There is one small chip where the neck meets the body and a small dark mark from clothing on the rear of the body.2 points

Due to recent wrist issues, I bought this amazing Sire U5 in Mint Green, however try as i might I can't get on with the short scale, and smaller frets. Its a fantastic sounding and well built little bass It has the deep bass that shortscales are known for, but the maple board and 70s position back pickup give it a lot of bite ( reminds me of a 70s jazz). Its a Gen2 Sire so has the new Marcus Revolution pickups and the lovely rolled fingerboard edges, making it very comfy to play. I bought this brand new from Andertons,a bit under 3 months ago. I've literally had this out for half a dozen rehearsals (no gigs) so it's immaculate, just a couple of tiny dings in the top of the Headstock, which was there when I bought it, and a couple of tiny dings in the neck, which you can't see, but can feel when you run your finger over it. I've also fitted a brand new set of Tomastik flatwounds to it, No case as It didn't come with one. I'd be looking for £320 including uninsured postage. I am looking at getting a Sire V7 4 or 5 string jazz (preferably Gen2) so would entertain trades/part trades for one of those,or maybe a Squire CV P bass 😁2 points

So I've been looking for a short scale bass for my son as a deserved "upgrade" from his Ibanez Mikro, he's been putting the time and effort in and showing progress and real enjoyment from playing. The Sire u5 seem to be on pre-order everywhere so I've been checking daily on various sites for a second hand one, specifically I was after the tobacco burst colour way. 11pm on Thursday I spot one on Facebook marketplace, turns out it's in the same County but not close, I asked if their was a way of getting it to me and by sheer coincidence they were planning on seeing friends in the town I live in on Sunday...but they would want a deposit as they'd had a lot of interest..I took the gamble & paid £100 through PayPal.. Had a couple of long days wondering if it was too good to be true but 3pm on Sunday met a lovely couple, the husband was the bassist looking to buy something else & selling the Sire, in immaculate condition. Very happy!😊2 points

For sale is a 2021 Fender American Original 50's P Bass in 2-tone sunburst with gold pickguard. It comes with a G&G tweed case, all the candy and ashtrays that I had fitted. It's strung with Fender Flats but also comes with the roundwounds that it was originally supplied with. It even comes with the original shipping box. It's in immaculate condition apart from a tiny nick on the pickguard near the truss rod (pictured). I've owned it from new and it was bought from GAK. It plays and sounds as beautifully as you'd expect but sadly I have three other P Basses and need to recover some money unfortunately. It weighs 8lbs 4oz so if very nice and light. I'm looking for £1,400 posted but am travelling to Southampton on Wednesday night for two days so could take to with me for a hand over. No trades please.2 points

I bought this from BassBros a couple of months ago and upgraded the white pickguard to a black one for added coolness. The lightest Jazz I have ever played at 8 pounds, yes you read that correctly. Unfortunately I am not getting on with the neck profile (I previously had a super-thin necked Geddy Jazz and this is quite deep front to back, almost like a chunky P bass neck but with narrower nut width). It hasn't left the house since I got it and is in super 9.5/10 condition (a few tiny, barely visible scratches around the drilled bridge cover holes). Comes with Fender case, covers, white guard etc. Collect from SW13 London or post at cost within UK. NO TRADES unless a 2010s Spector Ian Hill P/J in black (the one with the slimmed down neck profile). Last pic was taken today, to show black guard, the rest were sent to me by Will from BassBros (it didn't actually go on their website as I heard about it before Will had put together the advert).2 points

The singer in my old band was guilty of this. She knew the words, but wanted a little reminder, cue a video of her glued to the tablet. It's like a TV in a bar or pub, you can't not look at it.2 points

Personally I wouldn't spend a tenth of that on any bass anymore no matter what but if someone thinks that's what they can get for it then fair enough. In the current economic climate i think it might hang about for a bit. Anyway, here's Jim playing with the band If from 19712 points

Day 9 - Bournemouth Quite an interesting day, although not for the best reasons. We played well, the minor problems of the previous night were quickly forgotten during soundcheck and we were pretty happy with the onstage sound. We played the set well and seemed to get a good reception from the crowd, so all was good. There's a 30 minute changeover slot, allowing us to off-load our gear, during which time the crew do final line checks on the stage mic's etc, with the house music being the same timed number of tracks each night, culminating in the walk-on track for Kiefer and the band. As I was stripping down some of the equipment in a side room, off the main hall, I heard the usual huge cheer from the audience, but without the track playing. He then went on to announce that, after 3 days of feeling unwell, he'd tested positive for covid and couldn't continue on with the show. Obviously the crowd were very dissapointed, but in the majority were very understanding. We hung around and chatted to people afterwards, which was nice as usually we would have been travelling to the next venue, but we'd already decided to stay locally. Sadly, the three remaining dates have now been cancelled, which included Manchester, the nearest one to home for us all, but these things can't be helped. Still, it was an amazing experience and we were extremely lucky to have been invited onto the tour, so, many thanks Mr Sutherland and get well soon!2 points
