2018 Fender LTD 70’s Precision. Ash body with a Maple neck and fingerboard and the very unusual black binding makes this an unusual and rare bass. I understand these have American pickups which certainly explains why it sounds so good! The tuners are the 70 style complete with Fender embossed on the plates. The frets are in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures. The body, headstock and pickguard finish is not highly glossy but more of a satin finish which looks and feels great. I sense a previous owner may have used a very, very fine sandpaper to dull the finish. There are no significant dings and it has a very nice action. The Fender Deluxe gig bag is in great shape too. Please feel free to ask any questions and shipping is available at buyer’s cost and risk - but it will be packed very well! Collection in person is most welcomed.12 points

June 1964 Fender Precision Bass. Acquired by myself in Scotland in 2020. I have it on good authority that it was purchased in Edinburgh in 1966 in this colour, originally intended to be Fiesta Red. There are some traces of what I think might be Sunburst under the Red which are visible near the neck heel. I bought this from a friend who purchased it as part of a job lot from the original owner, who gave us all the information above re original purchase dates etc. I think any buyer would probably want to discuss and look in detail at the bass, so I will do my best to facilitate this in a timely fashion. I travel around quite a bit so could possibly arrange a meeting if possible, anywhere between Scotland’s central belt and the South coast of England. A few key points about the bass. Yes, it’s a refinish, I know. But it was painted in this colour sometime between being completed in the US and being sold in the UK in 1966. Call that what you will. All parts original with the exception of the following. Strap button on the rear of the headstock and the top horn. They were missing. Volume pot. Seized solid so replaced with a new Fender vintage repro part. I have kept the original pot, featured on the (in situ) pictures. Scratchplate - Generally good with some scorch marks near the controls. Pickups - verified as correct, sound fantastic. Tuners - All good and working. The bass was refretted using original spec thin fret wire when I bought it, the original frets were too low. This work was carried out by Stuart Palmer in Doncaster who was happy to verify that the bass was right and as it should be. The neck has been varnished over at some point, it’s a smooth job on the neck playing area but the headstock has seen some pooling from overspray? Apparently this was quite a common practice way back when. I have gigged this bass quite a lot, and it sounds fantastic, whether recorded or live it just performs, loads of feedback for the player through the old wood and it looks fantastic under the lights on any stage. The paint has become a lot more Orange than Fiesta Red but it seems to change under certain lighting and always looks cool. It’s light too, 3.95Kg. I’ll do my best to answer any serious questions, so please feel free to ask. Serious enquiries only please. I know these things attract a unique type of critique and I know it’s an expensive item. I’m selling it as an appreciating asset, and this is a rare chance to own a piece of the story. I created a sound clip to help with any demo.. Thanks for looking.8 points

I am selling my beautiful Fender 60th Anniversary Jazz Bass. Best jazz bass I have ever played. And one of the best basses too. The bridge pickup growl is unbelievable. It is a 60s jazz bass with stacked knobs. I can find more tones with these stacked knobs than the regular VVT setup. This is the talkbass thread: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/fender-60th-anniversary-jazz-bass.1475437/ Nitro finish has started to nicely fade away. There are only a few blemishes which are normal for nitro finishes. Other than that the bass is in really really good shape. Comes with all the case candy and the ashtrays and such. Full specs are below: Fender 60th Anniversary Jazz Bass Arctic Pearl RW Case: Erle Neck: maple Halsprofil: '60s 'U' Fretboard: Rosewood Fingerboard Radius: 7.25' Measurements: 86.36 cm (34') Fingerboard Radius: 7.25' Saddle width: 38.1 mm Saddle: Bone 20 vintage tall frets Pickups: 2 x Pure Vintage 62 Single-Coil Jazz Bass Regler: 2 x Master Volume, 2 x Tone Bridge: 4-Saddle Vintage Style Pickguard: Tortoise Shell, 4-lagig Tuners: Pure Vintage Reverse Open-gear Hardware: Chrome Fingerboard Inlays: White Pearloid Dot Hardware: Chrome Saiten: Fender USA 7250M Nickel Plated Steel .045-.105 Farbe: Arctic Pearl Made in USA Deluxe Hardshell Case This is a very accurate demonstration of the bass from Empire Music:4 points

With apologies for inflicting them on people again, may I present Evil Blizzard. Line-up used to be four bass players, a singing drummer, and a dancing pig, now it's three bass players (one of whom usually plays baritone guitar), a guitarist who used to play bass, a singing drummer, and a synth-playing pig.4 points

Now sold. Thanks for your interest. 🙂 Up for sale, my short scale Gretsch Electromatic Junior Jet Bass. This is the tobacco sunburst finish version which, IMHO looks pretty smart. These are great fun to play and have a surprisingly meaty tone considering the shorter scale. I bought this to keep me amused during lockdown but it rarely gets played now so it’s time to move it on. The bass is in very good condition and has been strung with D'addario tapewound strings since I’ve had it. I put the original roundwounds back on for the sale (tapewounds aren’t everyone’s cup of tea) but I will include the D'addarios in the sale – there’s plenty of life left in them. I’m also including an unbranded gig bag in fair condition. There are a few minor marks to the finish. The worst of which is on the back at the top – please see photograph here. There is also a random little dink (couple of mm) in the backplate. Otherwise it’s a pretty clean and smart example. Specs are: 30.3" Scale Length Walnut Fretboard 20 Medium Jumbo Frets Two Single-Coil Pickups Basswood body Bolt-on maple neck Three-position pickup toggle switch, master volume and master tone These basses are retailing around £320 / 330 new Price drop - including the extra tapewound strings and gig bag price is now £190 Collection only from East Leicestershire. I would consider driving within a 20 mile radius to exchange if it was a deal breaker. Up for sale on eBay too, but listed at a Basschat discount price here 😎3 points

These days yes (5): Gus G3 5-string passive (black) Gus G3 5-string active (red) Eastwood Hooky 6-string bass Burns Baracuda Squier Bass VI Soon it will probably be four when I get around to selling the Squier and Burns and replacing them with a second Eastwood Hooky. I also have 4 guitars. At one time (around 2014) I had almost 50 guitars and basses, as well as a number of synths, samplers and other high-tech musical instruments.3 points

Thing to note is for performing, better to have white text on a black background - means that the tablet screen is not illuminating your face, probably washing out any nice coloured lighting. Our lead singer has a small iPad with a magnetic mount so very inconspicuous.3 points

I use an ipad in my 80s duo and band. It has the backing tracks on it that we use and the words. I gave up learning words years ago because I don't need the hassle. I work in a demanding job full time. I mostly know the words but do need some help sometimes. Over 100 songs in my duo set alone means it can be weeks before I sing a certain song. The other night (happens occasionally) a drunk person fixated on the ipad, shouting that he's reading the words and pointing at it. This went on for about three songs. So i said, it's like having someone watching me whilst I'm having sex (and i laughed) Then i confessed to the car accident that I had 15 years ago, on the M25, when I was crashed into by an HGV, twice. (not a word of a lie, it really hurt. I was stationary and it piled into the back of me at about 30 mph, I head butted the windsecreen twice and didn't know what day it was for about half an hour) and I explained the crash has affected my memory a bit. They left me alone after that But when I saw Seal, supporting Duran Duran a few years ago, he had his words on an auto cue on the floor, that looked like a monitor. Lulu had some words on a music stand when I saw her. there's a lot of it about. If you can remember them all, you are really lucky. I'm 54 now and have been gigging since 1986. I do remember a lot of words but not all of them It's not a crime😃3 points

This bass is still for sale and I've dropped the price in order to get it shifted... the stable is getting a bit full! This one is a 2003 Shuker Jazz 6 string with a stunning translucent blue flame-maple top, in frankly excellent condition for its age. I bought it back in 2019 from Mark at Bass Direct hoping to move up from 5 string but I never felt quite comfortable with the extra string and so wasn't confident enough to gig the bass. So its has sat largely either in its case or on a stand ever since. There are some minor marks here and there, especially on the top/back of the head-stock but otherwise its very clean. Specs: Flame maple top Flame maple headstock veneer Swamp ash body Blueburst gloss finish Ebony Fingerboard 34’ scale 5 piece maple/wenge/flame maple neck 19mm string spacing Active Basslines pickups and 3 band EQ with volume and pickup-pan Comes with hard case As before I'm not interested in trades I'm afraid as I already have too many basses and I need the cash to pay for the new ones I've just bought! Am happy to post a video of the bass in action if required. Collection from Norwich is preferred but I will consider shipping to mainland UK (usually around £30-40 uninsured) or will drive to within 100 mile radius of Norwich for additional £30. Gibson EB2d sunburst semi-hollow bass for sale. Vintage 1965 (or possibly 1967?). In generally decent condition for it's age. Neck is very good, plays really nicely and feels very comfortable. There are of course a few scuffs and scrapes and a little buckle rash, but nothing serious. It sounds exactly as you would expect - massive low end from the mudbucker, punchy and bright mini humbucker and lots of tones in between. String damper works fine. Comes in it's own fitted case. Some of the pots have been replaced sometime in the past, but the original parts are included in the sale. It is stamped with a "2" under the serial number which indicates a Gibson factory 2nd, which would signify a slight flaw in the finish. Indeed there is a slight issue with the varnish on the bass side of the headstock, but it's pretty insignificant and has zero effect on playability or sound. I have priced the bass accordingly, as these would normally go for £3 - £5k or more. Here's what I found online; "I was a Gibson dealer throughout the 70s and 80s. Here is how it worked. Mid 60s through mid 70s they used a stamped "2" under the serial number to designate a second. All it meant was something cosmetic, not structural, that did not quite meet their standard for a first-quality instrument. Color, maybe something in the grain, etc. You could not order them, but your factory rep would sometimes offer them to you. The wholesale price was 10% below normal wholesale." Reason for sale - I am a pro player of 40+ years experience and have been collecting basses throughout my career. But I am now - how can I put it - quite advanced in years, and have decided to sell off a substantial part of my collection. This is the first one to go and a feeler for the current market. I wouldn't want to ship this bass, so local collection only. Any trial welcome. I could meet up somewhere within 20 miles of Southend.2 points

From where I'm sat on the sofa I can see thirteen, and this is the room that supposed to be kept relatively bass tidy, ie not littered with them. There's lots more in other rooms but, as I can't see them at the moment, they don't count.2 points

Tuned and plugged in... For £202 delivered this is simply ridiculous value! Stuck it thru a couple of eq pedals (Colourbox v.2 which to be fair makes everything sound good and a Spark Booster -4 knob version which just elevated the basic sound and would work well as an always on unit with this bass in place of a 2B eq a la OBP-1 or Sadowsky type unit. They both added added more to a fundamentally decent J bass sound.2 points

His family name is Clarke. I saw Stan the man live in the late 80's or early 90's, and the man with the 5-string bass was Jimmy Earl.2 points

That seems to be a pretty accurate description, going off my 1 gig with it 🙂. I couldn't believe the volume of it compared to my 1000w mark bass head I'd had before either. I really thought I might struggle with the limited functionality of it, but thinking about it, what else do you really need in an amp head?! Thanks for linking the bag! I'm hoping my MB bag I bought for the vintage 1000 will fit, otherwise I'm stuck with a £60 bag for nothing. If it's no good then I'll certainly order the orange bag!2 points

What amp/cabs are you running this through? All of my Bass VIs were slightly quiet on the higher strings when used with a typical bass amp. As soon as I dispensed with this and went for a Helix and FRFR cab, it immediately sounded much more balanced. It may be that you need a different rig for this instrument, not different pickups.2 points

Few updates. The 42 AWG wire arrived on Saturday, had a couple of hours free over the weekend so made the first pickup bobbin and then this afternoon started the wind by hand... got to 40 winds and snap... start again... managed just over 100 winds and snap again. Realised that my skin was too rough and the wire kept snagging on it, so asked the wife for some moisturiser and started over. Success Managed to do 4000 winds before having to stop for the day, but the moisturiser is working great, getting the right amount of tension in the wire and it flows through the fingers easily. I have also been varnishing the winds at certain intervals, getting plenty on and letting it soak in and then turning the bobbin and doing the same from the other side before continuing the winds, shouldn't be any need for wax potting at the end. Had a few deliveries today as well - Fretboard, double action truss rod and some walnut boards. The walnut boards are only 100mm wide, so there will be a bit of work getting a seamless join on the wings, but I like a challenge... which is why I decided to go with Leadwood for the Fretboard. Harder than Ebony and apparently very difficult to work, sharp tools are essential 😆 Pretty sure I planned on this build being lightweight, I was told Leadwood was on the heavy side... too damn right it is!!!! Looking forward to this.2 points

Friday night gig at Backwell Village Club, SW of Bristol. Their beer festival weekend. Not out target audience, and we were more the band in the background while people chatted, but there were a few swaying and singing along. One of those 'get it under your belt' type. The venue and organiser were very happy though.2 points

As the string separation increases from nut to bridge, you'll need three different spacings... 😉 Otherwise slant the pickups a wee bit to fit exactly?2 points

Don't break it up, it needs to be left as a bass no matter what you do with it. Play it and love it or sell as a whole bass. Plenty of people, me included would be interested and keep it as a bass, just needs some tlc2 points
