  1. NOW SOLD I’ve realised that, despite its outstanding beauty, I’m really not playing this amazing bass anywhere near enough to keep it. It deserves to be cherished and played regularly! It is in immaculate condition as far as I can see and comes with the, upgraded, USA custom teardrop case (much higher quality than the standard versions). Not sure exactly where Fodera prices stand these days but, with this spec and the highly figured top, I’d imagine it would be pushing £10K new. Here’s the full description from Fodera: This Monarch 4 Deluxe was build for one of our international dealers and features the same tone wood and pickup combination as our Victor Wooten Classic: A Mahogany body, Indian Rosewood fingerboard, and EMG P/J’s. This bass delivers a rich, articulate tone with deep, warm lows, clear, bell-like highs, and an overall modern vibe. This bass also features a dark Buckeye Burl top with lost of dark, intricate figure, as well as tulip inlays at the 12th and 24th frets! Specs for the Buckeye Burl Monarch 4 Deluxe: Body Woods • Monarch • Mahogany Body • No Tone Block • Buckeye Burl Top (Solid) Neck Woods • Indian Rosewood Fingerboard • 3-pc. Hard Rock Maple • Mother-of-Pearl Dot Inlays w/ Tulips on 12th and 24th frets Construction Specs • Birth Date - October 2014 • Dovetail Construction • 34" Scale Length • 4 String Configuration (19.0mm Spacing) • 24 Frets (Large) Electronics Options • Fodera / Pope Custom 3-Band Preamp • EMG P / J Pickups • Monarch Control Layout Will come set up with a brand new pack of Fodera strings. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

  2. True Newcastle story. I (short bald fat unhealthy looking guy of late middle age) was up on business from the South. As I tottered miserably out the rail station heading for my hotel, coming the other way on the sidewalk/ pavement were three girls, happy, laughing, not drunk - this was mid afternoon. As they passed me one of the girls grabbed my ears, turned my head down like Snow White does to Dopey in the movie, and planted a kiss on my bald pate. Then they waltzed on, still laughing. I fell deeply and permanently in love with the Geordie character from that point onwards.

  3. All original & in exceptional condition. Has benefitted from a set up by leading UK Luthier Andrew Warnock where a new bone nut was fitted along with a light fret dress & full set up, original nut is included in the non original hard case. Make no mistake, this bass has been set up by one of the best guys in the business & it's at a full pro level & ready to enjoy. The bass plays & sounds incredible. This is a beautiful example & has spent most of its unplayed life under a bed in a case. A pure funk machine of the highest order & I have never seen or played another on this level.

  5. 23 is already busy. Last night's gig was a packed-out house as usual. Today off. Now we got the next 3 days to play up and down the Florida west coast. 23 is 100% booked. But talks of a national tour arose again. We'll know by April.

  6. Hi, I'm selling this great Mayones because I'm not using it. It has bartolini picks and preamp. Maple neck, redwood fretboard. Ash body (I think) It sounds amazing, it's very comfortable. The sound it's more classic than it seems. Also it has a piezo (with a piezo balance control. It's quite heavy but very balanced you can ask any question about it thanks our family insta.mp4

  7. Lovely walnut BXP 5 and ABS Hard Case. She has just a few small marks and play swirls, no damage or dinks. Neck thru construction with active 3 band EQ. Sounds huge and all works as it should. NO LONGER AVAILABLE

  8. I bought this in early November and at the end of the month was told I was being made redundant. Good timing to spend £1200 on a bass Due to being jobless and having 2 other similar humbucker basses, I`m putting this up for sale only. This is made in Germany, it has a 3 band Glockenklang pre amp that can run in passive when the volume knob is pulled out - the tone knob then works in passive mode. Ash body, pao ferro fingerboard, weight is 4.1 kg or 9 lb`s. The bass is in exc condition with just a small mark at the end of the headstock that you can see in the last pic. It comes with the very nice Sandberg bag. I would prefer collection or meet up (I stay just outside Glasgow) but I would be prepared to post in the UK mainland only for an extra £25.

  11. Hahahaa, this, definitely. When I was a teenager, there was an extended family kinda do up there (Chester-Le-Street), and an old great-uncle of someone's was sat in a corner (by the buffet, he wasn't daft)...this fella was very proud he'd never been outside Tyneside other than when he went on the Jarrow March in '36, and even though I'd been around Geordies (and Mackems) a good deal, I couldn't understand more than one phrase in ten*... 🙂 * We were as linguistically at odds as the time I walked into a barbers in a small town in Cambodia to get a haircut (I was overheating all the time, and I'd figured a short Do would be cooler (temperature-wise)), and the only thing we could communicate on were the words (he suggested) 'David Beckham'. I nodded in desperation, and he gave me a mohawk... 🙁🙂

  12. Some of you here may remember the lovely, and very talented, Vic Davies - store manager at BassGear until his untimely passing way too young. Vic’s personal dream Ritter was finished just before we lost him 6 years ago and he has now been commemorated by special, and unique, new instrument: A Cora bass named “The Victor”. It is an absolutely stunning instrument and with a core frosted black theme, white hardware, an amazing ‘dirty Ebony’ fingerboard and a meaty, overwound, humbucker, I just know Vic would be overjoyed with this special tribute ❤️ Full details here: https://ritter-instruments.com/instrument.php?id=2208

  14. Newcastle/North expensive... you're having a larf surely? If you want to live in certain areas around the outskirts/suburbs of Newcastle you can pay top dollar for property or head out to Darras Hall and join the millionaire football elite brigade (still several million cheaper than the South) but there are loads of nice areas with housing that is 100's of thousands cheaper than comparable homes elsewhere! Newcastle - 7 miles from the coast and 20 miles from areas of coastal outstanding beauty. 10 miles to 'open' countryside. 50 miles from the countries only dark skies location, Scottish borders, Cheviot hills... blah blah blah Just don't say you're a Mackem! @LukeFRC visited recently and he hated it... maybe.

  16. For sale (no trade offers please) a Modern Player Jazz bass in black. This bass has been through the hands of a few forum folks . I think @AndyTravismay have rescued this from a studio and breathed new life into it with the new neck and tuners?? Then I inherited it from @eadin a trade. Hardly any signs of wear at all that I can find. The new jazz neck is fantastic. It's a roasted maple type with a lovely satin finish on the back. Rock solid hipshot tuners. Four way toggle switch on the pickups. Just go to YouTube for a quick overview of the four settings. I preferred it using full humbucker mode at the neck combined with single coil at the bridge. I didn't have to do much with it really apart from get it properly set up (nut needed fixing up) and add new strings. All good now. Tricky to price (for me anyway). £550 to 600 on Reverb??? Collection from Manchester although I'm happy to drive 45/60 minutes to meet halfway if someone is going to buy it. Welcome to try it here at my house through my practice amp. PS sticker is only on the scratch plate. I'll remove it and clean up any residue before collection.

  19. I think I mentioned it earlier in the thread but I had a bitsa put together that has a 32" scale neck from a Hondo II H1015. The body was massively over my weight limit so I mated the neck with something else, after some fiddling with scale length and bridge position (an Encore double cutaway short scale) Entistle PBXN (yum). Boy, what a neck! 40mm at the nut, chunky in hand D profile. One of my nicest necks to play, I reckon. Fits my hand just perfectly and just that little bit easier to navigate than the long scales.

  20. Update on my situation: I put in a claim through PayPal and within 24 hours had a response for the seller saying they had raised a complaint with DHL, and earlier today I received an email saying DHL were going to contact the driver to find out where it ended up. Fingers crossed!

  24. Probably the biggest 180 I have ever done is with country music. Growing up and for a lot of my adult life I hated it. But, for no reason - I certainly had never listened to it to make a value judgement. For various reasons I got to listen to a lot of it and found it to be, on the whole, a rich mine of beautifully crafted and played songs with sharp lyrics. I got to see the Zac Brown Band at the first Country to Country festival at the O2 and it has to be one of the very best live performances I have ever seen.

  25. Back in my touring days (15-odd years ago) I always looked forward to going to Newcastle. We used to play Trillians and always had a great crowd. I never had any concern walking around the town after dark. I hated playing Leeds though, for reasons I can't quite fathom... I think it was the haircuts.

  26. It used to be mine indeed, and the guy selling it is the very one I sold it to in 2015 and I still clearly remember this very sympathetic deal as a friend had been commissioned by the buyer and traveled 500 kilometres round from Holland to my place in Belgium to buy it for him because he was very busy. Another real good Leduc, the half fret lines are original and where asked by the original owner (J-P C) who is a friend of mine. So the full history of this bass is known with "only" 3 owners.

  27. Lived in Newcastle for 16 years but moved to Glasgow 10 years ago. Newcastle is one of the friendliest places I have ever been. There is an openness and generosity of spirit that I haven't found anywhere else. The music scene (and that of neighbouring Sunderland) is fiercely independent and everyone just gets on with it. Every so often the London media take notice and there is a couple of articles hyping things, then everyone gets back to making stuff, putting on gigs and records. If I could move back there I would.

  28. Having played, and owned, a few Foderas through the store, I think this is the prettiest top I’ve ever had. It hangs on the wall right next to where I work every day and every time I look at it, I smile. However, it just seems a shame that it’s not being used enough when I’m sure there’s someone out there that would play it regularly

  29. A little reminder of Vic. One of my favourite ever pics of him - taken next to a wall of Ritters at the London Bass Show. I was trying to get a sneaky pic of him in front of those basses and he spotted me - this was a classic Vic response 😂

  31. Up for sale is my 2014 Cort GB 35J jazz bass guitar in excellent condition. It’s been fitted with Hipshot licensed ultralight tuners, Upgraded Sadowsky quick release bridge and brass control knobs It’s a really nice sounding bass which I would prefer to keep being very lightweight at under 3.3 kilos.,with the neck balance just above horizontal. Only selling due to on going arthritis in my finger joints makes it painful to play a 5 string bass for any length of time. Possible trade for a Squier Jazz standard series 4 string Now Sold cheers Ady

  32. So I bought this bass new from Thomann maybe six months ago just to see if I could take to fretless. Turns out I could, so have since invested in a more expensive instrument. This bass weighs nothing and is actually a lot of fun to play - I put GHS Pressurewounds on it and lowered the action. It sounds way better than it should at this price point… comes with a very solid moulded StudioLogic flight case which I bought off our favourite auction site. It had been hacked around a bit inside but it doesn’t affect anything. Prefer collection only from Bournemouth.

  46. Jazz! I always respected it, but as a teenager and until my late 20s I secretly thought it was "old music", that as a genre was dead and that jazzists were mainly showing off. Well, I couldn't be more wrong! In the last years I got really into it and discovered that is more alive than ever, actually has never been dead. Contamination is the bread and butter in jazz and there is quite a lot of experimentation too. I found it one of the most "open" genres of all time, and one of the best form of art and expression ever! Less straightforward than other music, so it took me a bit to understand it, more "life experience" and some studying too. But, it was definitely worth though.

  47. Lovely bass, in as new condition. Plays and sounds great. Ideally I’m looking to trade for a short/medium scale Fender Japan Precision bass, but would also sell for £850. The spec can be found here: https://www.fender.com/en-AU/electric-basses/jazz-bass/made-in-japan-junior-collection-jazz-bass/5682100304.html Comes with original gig bag. I have the original box so can post.
