Price Drop £2600 Reluctantly up for sale my super light Custom Shop 57 Precision bass serial #R63208. Made in 2013 which was one of the better years I’m told. If you have a dodgy back after years of lugging Ampeg's then this has to be for you at only 7.6lbs without the metalwork. Wonderful tone and the swamp ash grain just peaks through the transparent checked blonde finish, looks the business. Comes with tweed G+G case and all the candy, strap etc. Was originally listed on Guitar Guitar when new in 2013, the listing is still there https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/13013013013632--fender-custom-shop-57-p-bass-heavy-relic-ash-mn-vintage-blonde-r These don’t come up that often second hand and quite a wait for new ones. No trades need cash. Fire over any questions. Cheers Andy12 points

I just received a G&L LB-100. It'll be getting the same treatment as my Squier: a Dimarzio and Pro Steels. The Squier is already gone.10 points

I know him a bit and have friends who are close to him - I'll have a dig. EDIT: I've sent him a text message sending him our best.10 points

Very rare UK built Shergold Marathon 8 string bass in cherry red. Probably made in 1980/81 as the shield logo is the later embossed version. There were very few of these made and this is all original but missing the small trussrod cover. The pickup sounds great and the bass plays well on the lower frets but past the 12th some of the notes choke out. So it could do with a set up and work on the higher frets to sort this out. The bass is strung with a GHS custom set. The bass is light weight and other than the usual Shergold lacquer cracking and some dings and marks is in fairly good condition for a forty plus year old bass. The bass has two outputs for stereo but I’ve not used this facility. The neck is nice and slim and as it’s an 8 string with lots of tension on the neck the neck has a slight forward bow. I have also played this as a four string bass and it is typical Shergold very playable and punchy sounding. Truss rod works as it ought to. A piece of history. No case or bag but I can post at cost. Only selling as I am moving house and need to move on some of my collection. UK only. No trades. Thanks!8 points

Hi everyone, Up for sale is my lovely VM5. I'm only noodling at home so this is wasted on me at the moment. Ash body, maple neck with pau ferro fretboard. Original sandberg gig bag included. I'm in Glasgow but travelling through to Linlithgow twice a week so could meet between the two or possibly elsewhere. Oh yes, I'd possibly be interested in trades for a Reverend skinny string (sorry) or another interesting semi hollow guitar. Thanks8 points

After they put out the Embassy, I wondered how long it would take them to do the Newport. Well, now they have, short scale lovers. Around £350 gets you a pretty decent modern reinterpretation of the pre '63 Newport. Nice colours too. There's not even a sniff of them on the Epiphone website yet, but they're in retailers now (picture nicked from Peach Guitars, Guitar Guitar have 'em too, probably others)7 points

I would think you need to tell the police to reopen it, tell them where the bass is and get on it pronto before it 'disappears'7 points

Hi everyone, decided to see if there's any interest in my 1988 Nt5 thumb bass. This is such an awesome bass, with that typical thumb growl. It has a very slim and playable neck. Has the original emg pickups with a 2 band eq. She's a heavy old girl at 11.3lbs. Everything works as it should, there is some wear to be expected with a 34 year old bass! It has some light surface scratches, some discolouration to the lower body edge, some paint wear to the bridge and the emg pickup logos have almost rubbed off. There is also what looks like some glue or insert near to the nut, I got this bass from the original owner who said it was like this from new. It is an amazing bass and none of the above detract from how it plays etc. Cash sale ideally, may take a part ex plus cash but would need to be a minimum of £1k cash. Comes with an old, fitted and very heavy flight case to keep it safe. Collection/meet up much preferred due to the value however could post at buyers cost/risk. Any more pictures or info feel free to ask, I've priced it fairly going on other similar basses I've found online (most of which are up for alot more!) . I'm happy to discuss price with any interested buyers. Thanks6 points

This is a rad little short scale bass created around the design of a telecaster. It’s beautiful in appearance and has a sound comparable to a jazz and a p-bass which makes it very versatile. There is a mark on the back of the neck which is out of the way. It was like it when I bought it new. I spoke with Retrovibe when he built it and it was a blemish from the neck manufacturer. It does not affect the playing or sound. Lovely bass but unfortunately I need a 5 string so need to free up space and funds. Collection or meet up in the bath area. I can offer shipping at buyers cost. See less IMG_4055.MOV6 points

Hi folks! For sale is my Fender Musicmaster from 1977! It´s a nice instrument with a warm vintage sound and a very low setup, if you want. As far as I can evaluate everything is original. The finish has some dings and dongs, but everything works as it should. Shipping is possible at buyer‘s risks and costs. Feel free to contact me for more informations.6 points

It's still yours, obviously. Contact the shop and tell them it is your bass, it was stolen in November, and you are going to let the police know they have it. Having done that they cannot sell it because if they do they will be committing the crime of handling stolen goods 'knowing or believing it to be stolen'. Tell the police who you reported it with a let them get on with it. Won't be quick.6 points

Retrovibe Vantage Bass This was the pre Chowney Retrovibe series I believe with the serial number written in pen on the headstock. The bass looks like the offspring of a meeting between two very different well known US made basses. The design actually works very well and the bass has a great sound and feel. I’m not sure if it’s of Korean or Indian manufacture as there are different threads out there about them however the opinions are very positive. The bass is certainly of decent enough quality and plays well. The passive MM style pickups are loud with a good array of tones. The knobs are not original and if you look carefully they all have ‘treble’ lettering as opposed to two treble and two bass. I will include the original Jazz bass style knobs if you prefer. The bass is lightweight at under 4kgs and balances well on a strap. There is a chamfer on the upper part of the body making it comfy to play despite the binding. I’m selling it as I decided I need to get another 4003s bass. I had fallen out with them (again) but this has whetted my appetite for one. The bass has minor cosmetic bumps and scratches to its body. There is a paint crack near the neck joint see pic but this is cosmetic and doesn’t effect the very solid neck to body joint. There was a QC issue in that the pole pieces didn’t line up well with the strings so I moved the pickup by filing the scratchplate down. The neck route was pretty rough but now I’ve moved the pickup a couple of millimetres to the left it means the pole pieces on the neck pickup line up better. There is no case but I have a decent box so can post in the UK only at buyer’s cost. It’s strung with flats. An interesting take on some classic designs.4 points

Using the EQ settings in the image below and having the SHAPE button out I get an amazing rock tone with a pick played PBass The trick is to avoid “ mid” overload something a pick played PBass is strong at. The SHAPE out boosts bass and cuts mids and it really works well in a band context I wouldn’t use if finger style like that as way too woolly and boomy but use a pick and roundwounds and you’re in rock bass heaven 🤟4 points

It's a disguised gen 1 Rockbass. Truss rod cover is fake (original had a clip on truss access cover), there's no rout for a 2 piece bridge so that means it could only be a German Streamer Standard Bolt On or a 1st gen Rockbass. Neck is maple so not the German SSBO so will be a 1st gen Rockbass with the large Fender-style jack rout sneakily disguised by the epoxy modification. You can buy German Streamer Standard Bolt On for that much which will have an ovangkol neck and was built in the Warwick factory. This is worth £150 tops. EDIT: Also has the RB serial number so that's a bit of a clue! 🤣4 points

Here is my contribution to the January 2023 Basschat Composition Challenge, illustrated with a picture chosen by the Master of Ceremonies: Lurksalot. I've composed the jingle for the TV spot that this paradisiac resort has commissioned. All is in the title, really, it's a hypnotic exhortation to make you think of Paddling, Pedalling and Pédalos when next booking your holidays. Cunning, no..? The magic was easy and quick enough, with three silver-voiced lasses harmonising , and a couple of suitable (and rapidly found...) samples, to flesh it out. Standard Cockos NY bus on the Master channel, and that's all, folks..! Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy, and wishing everyone a Happy New Year.4 points

Doing a major clear out at the moment, and this is next up (and the first of my two doublenecks) on the block. I got this a number of years ago and I think it’s time to accept that my dream of being in The Eagles, Led Zeppelin or Bon Jovi is probably best laid to rest. This AcePro double-neck Strat features 6- and 12-string maple necks, black body and white pickguard, plus cream pickup covers and knobs. I originally got this years ago with the intention of upgrading all the pickups and electronics, applying new decals and finish to the necks etc... but I never got around to it and realistically i think it’s time someone else got to enjoy this fun beast. There’s a quick little clip to hear what it sounds like through my cheap little Boss Katana amp (surprisingly good!) here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CnxhX6lquFx/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Price reduced to £375 (cash, bank transfer or PayPal gift) collected or may be able to deliver or meet up somewhere along the SE London / Croydon / Guildford (Surrey) area. Would prefer not to post, especially since I don’t have a suitable case. Will also not do “I’ll send a friend / courier with cash” type scams. I have a few bits and bobs on the block in the next few weeks / months, so let me know if you are interested and I’ll keep you posted.3 points

I’ve always loved the Rickenbacker vibe and was fortunate enough to be able to scratch the itch and buy one back in 2021. I’ve joined the odd Ricky Facebook group and whatnot, noodled about with Rufus (I called it Rufus. Please don’t think less of me) and have come to realise that this bass is basically a Harley Davidson. It looks iconic and sounds iconic, owners absolutely love it but in the cold light of day the build quality is actually pretty rough and you’d probably be better off with a Yamaha.3 points

I was just using the EQ in Logic to mimic the Thumpinator with a HPF at 30ish hz and -24db/octave although just got the real thing so that won't be necessary anymore. For the LPF i was copying the Jad Freer Capo starting at around 2.5-3khz and a very gentle roll off at about -6db/octave. It seems way better in the mix than using any of my IRs and way easier. I tried the same with guitar but much preferred the IRs though on the flip side.3 points

As I said, once they've been told they almost certainly won't sell it because they would leave themselves open to being nicked themselves. The thing is to get in quick and tell them. The wording of the offence is pretty cut and dried - I've italicised the important bits: 'A person handles stolen goods if (otherwise than in the course of the stealing) knowing or believing them to be stolen goods he dishonestly receives the goods, or dishonestly undertakes or assists in their retention, removal, disposal or realisation by or for the benefit of another person, or if he arranges to do so' When you tell the shop, they then know or believe the bass to be stolen and that's that. pawn shops take hooky gear all the time and don't care. But once they are told it is hooky gear it is another matter - they back off. It isn't in their interests.3 points

Set right and in the right application/context most do actually. And especially if blended with some dry/clean signal via for example a Boss LS-2 or similar. Though to name a few: Some kind of Klon clone, for example the Mosky Golden Horse, particularly on lower gain settings as an "always on" kind of thing. Joyo Orange Juice, works particularly well for a more grindy type of drive. Joyo American Sound, works amazingly well as a bass overdrive, but actually also really well as a cleaner bass preamp.3 points

Blurb: A quick glance on a small phone screen, with my deteriorating eyesight, of the seemingly deserted resort made me think of the Jonestown compound, Waco and then some kind of Andromeda Strain type of apocalyptic tragedy, as these things frequently end up. Yeah wrong way, I know 🤣 Technical: Yamaha kit with oak snare recorded by Thomann's cheapest mics and interfaces. Bass is an Alembic Orion, guitar is a Bacchus strat, into an Engl preamp. Vocals by the TalkAny app. All mushed together in protools.3 points

The general rule of thumb is tone and then time - so your chorus, being a time-based effect, is probably best at the end. Effects that depend on pitch tracking tend to work best with a clean and consistent signal, so on that basis I'd try the synth right at the front. The preamp is simulating the front end of an amp, so I'd start with having that after the drive. Tuner > Synth > OD > Preamp > Chorus would be how I'd start, but it's always fun to move things around and see how different pedals interact with one another.3 points

I've spent a bit more time than usual on the bass for this month's songlet... We've got 8 different basslines played on 4 different basses! It's inspired by the time I worked at Chester Zoo (as a boat driver, what else?). One day loads of police turned up and completely locked the place down - they thought they'd smashed a major drugs ring. Turns out a lad who used to work there had been caught in London with a carrier bag full of weed, that he said had come from Chester Zoo. The police duly found a large amount of cannabis plants growing behind the bird house; however, they'd grown from hemp seeds thrown out while cleaning out the bird cages! For those who only want the very funky bit, rather than the ambient build-up, just skip to 3 minutes... Basses are Lightwave fretless, Wal Custom, ACG Recurve and Parker PB51. Guitars are an old Epi semi-acoustic and a Strat with lots of pitch shift, reverb and delay and Valves overdrive. Drums programmed in EZ Drummer and Addictive Drums. All mixed in Ableton and polished with Ozone 9.3 points

Chunk Systems Octavius Squeezer, excellent condition, boxed with power supply and on latest firmware £270 An absolute beast of a synth pedal - fully analogue with digital screenage. Lots has been written about this legendary pedal. If you like playing with settings and spending whole evenings cooking up sounds the Chink is what you need. Also takes a 9V batt but mostly as backup. Comes with dedicated power supply designed for the unit, though will run fine with a normal 9v supply IME (I'm using a OneSpot).2 points
